Iphone stolen/lost what now?

So it happened. I have Mobile Me and a password. Just how safe is my data? Phone says wipe is pending? Can someone override the wipe and/or the password?
Also lets say the phone was damaged. I got out of a cab and it fell out and got run over by a bus. Would it show wipe pending forever?

If it is saying the wipe is pending, that means the mobileme service has been unable to communicate the command to the phone.  It will be able to do so, if the iPhone comes back on and connects a network (3g or wifi).
If you have the passcode on it, then it may have been turned off, or restored as new.  If off, hopefully when it comes back on it will get a data connection and your wipe command goes through.  If it has already been restored as new, then your wipe command will never complete (since all your account settings will have been wiped), but it is also moot, since the restore as new would also have blown all your information off the device anyway.
Oh, and sure, if damaged and unable to make a data connection, there is now way for the mobileme service to send commands to it, nor for it to send it's location information to the service.  No data connection, no find-my-device.
Odds are, your data is secure (or securely gone and someone is using your old phone as a restored-as-new phone).  To be really safe, I would change the passcodes of any sites you used on the device (emails, banking web sites, etc), - a little paranoia is not always a bad thing!

I restored my new phone from an earlier date than my niece's baptism.  I don't know if I should have restored or set up as a new phone.  But my problem now is that I really want those pictures.  I had icloud on that phone and the new one.  Can anyone help me or tell me if I can get those pictures back.  When I log into my itunes account on my computer it still shows the other phone as a device but I only see where you can remove that device.  Thank you need to take a class on all this new technology.

Like a digital camera, you should be syncing your photos from iphone to a computer often.  If you have been doing that, you should find the photos on the computer.
If you had been backing up you iphone to icloud, then you could restore the backup, but many users have complained here that they lost all their photos when doing a restore, none seem to have been in the backup.  Since your new phone is new, then try doing a restore (you should have done that when you first set up the new phone - if you did and the photos did not come back, then they are lost).
To restore, look through this help page, scroll to the bottom for restore instructions.

  • Iwas mugged and had my iphone stolen so am now trying to find it on line but need support please.

I was mugged Wednesday night and would like help finding my iphone please.

    Help doing what?
IF you set up find my iphone on the iphone itself before it was stolen and it is on and it has not been restored then you may be able to locate using icloud.
Otherwise there is nothing you can do but report it to the police and change your passwords.

  • PowerBook was stolen! What now!? Please help!

My beloved G4 PowerBook was recently stolen and with it all of the 600+ songs that I've downloaded from the iTunes music store. However, I still have my iPod mini containing all of the songs and the installation CD that came with it. My question is this:
If I purchase a new MacBook to replace my PowerBook and install the iPod mini's software onto the new computer, will I be able to transfer the music that is currently on my iPod mini to the new computer?
Right now my iPod's battery is completely depleted and I have no means of charging it. It would quite upsetting (to say the very least) if my music was trapped on an iPod that I can no longer charge.
Any help with this matter would be greatly, GREATLY appreciated!
    -Greg
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

I visited the VersionTracker web site and there appear to be several utilities that I could use to transfer the mp3 files to my new Macbook. Do you have any recommendations? PodWorks 2.8.5 seems to be what I'm looking for.
I've used PodWorks and it seems to work quite well, but I'm sure there are other utilities that would also work.
Do I need to install the iPod mini's software onto my new Macbook BEFORE using PodWorks or a similar utility?
All you need is iTunes, which will come pre-installed on any new Mac. So you don't need to install anything at all other than PodWorks or whatever other utility you choose.
Again, when you connect your iPod, don't let it synchronize to the blank iTunes library. To be sure of preventing this, while connecting the iPod to the computer, hold down the Command and Option keys on the Mac. This should stop the iPod from auto synching with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 3 and 25 seconds depending on your computer. You should then be able to run the transfer utility.
    Good luck.

  • Iphone 4s lost contacts - NOW FOUND!

A previous poster "Zelous" - said to go into iCloud.  Turn off 'Contacts'.  Then, turn it back on. When asked to "Merge" - hit 'Merge'.
VOILA!!!!  ALL CONTACT ARE BACK!   THANK YOU!!!!

In Regards to this, You possibly wont be able to get the contacts from the iPhone 4 unless there is a back up file on your computer.
The original phone would be disabled due to alot of attempts of the wrong passcode. If all your contacts are on the cloud at the moment, you would be able to just set the iPhone 4S up with iCloud on it then Turn On "Contacts".
This would be bring all the contacts down from your iCloud onto your 4S.
But you will only be able to merge your contacts with the cloud when your original iPhone either has been enabled or the passcode was entered.
If you have previously already had iCloud on that device and have contacts Turned on, you will be able to just enter the same Apple ID you used for iCLoud on your original phone and use it on your new one.
Your able to check what content your iCloud holds via www.icloud.com
If you are unable to get past the disabled screen, then unfortunately the device will have to be put into recovery mode and then restored via iTunes NOTE: This will delete all data.

  • My phone has been stolen. What now?

I'm concerned that valuable info has been breached. How do I wipe my phone clean?

If you set up find my iphone on the iphone itself and it is on and it has not been restored, then you may be able to do this via icloud.com.
Otherwise you cannot do anything but report it to the police and change your passwords and alert your carrier.

  • HT1349 I lost/had my iPhone stolen. Tried using Find My iPhone and it's offline. It was set up. What do I do now? Do I report it stolen? What is the best way in getting back my iPhone if any? Thank you in advance.

Tried using Find My iPhone and it's offline. It (Find my iPhone) was set up. What do I do now? Do I report it stolen? What is the best way in getting back my iPhone if any? Thank you in advance.

Find My iPhone is good for misplaced iPhone but not good for thief and it was never meant to be.
You chance of getting it back is very small.
There are a few things you can try.
Try remote lock/wipe your iPhone through Find My iPhone.

You can report to the police, cell carrier (expensive cell charges for international calls, roaming etc)

  • I purchased an iphone 4s few weeks back here in Pakistan and now I can't activate it because it says that this iphone was lost and erased. sign in with the Apple ID that was used to erase this iPhone. what do I do now???

I purchased an iPhone 4s few weeks ago here in Pakistan and now I can't activate it because it says the this iPhone was lost and erased. Sign is with the Apple ID that was used to erase this iPhone. What do I do now? because I contacted the Owner but he's not willing to give me that ID. I mean it's really very annoying why do people are selling stolen phones? Please help me guys.

If you are trying to activate an iPad or iPhone and it is asking for a previous owners Apple ID and password, you have encountered the Activation Lock. This is a security feature that prevents thieves from setting up and using a stolen or lost iPad or iPhone. You have no alternative. You must contact the previous owner to get permission to use the device. If you cannot contact the previous owner return the device to where you bought it and get a refund. You will never be able to activate the device and no one can help you do it.

    Hi,
I had my iphone stolen a few weeks ago which had quite a lot of music on that I had downloaded from itunes via my phone but had not synced with itunes on my computer.
Is there any way to access the music now or is it lost? Thanks x

By any chance, did you have the Find My iPhone app installed prior to it being stolen?

Your only option is to connect your iPhone to your computer via USB (as the diagram indicates) and restore using iTunes.

  • Stolen iPhone....now I have someone else's contacts and reminders! What to do? Nothing seems to have been accessed but it has to have been through iCloud because I have it on my iPad...what to do?

Recently had my iPhone stolen while on holiday in Las Vegas, I didn't report it, tried the track my iPhone app but just showed as offline, also there wouldn't have been any battery left on it anyway. I have passwords for everything. Just managed to buy a new iPhone, restored it but I have someone else contacts! Also I received a reminder on my iPad via iCloud obviously from someone else...what to do?

Contact the Apple account security team and get their assistance resetting the password: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5699.  Once the password is reset, the other party will no longer have access to your iCloud account.  Then you can go to icloud.com and delete the other person's data from your account.

  • My iphone 4 was stolen and I now have a replacement and I'm tryin g to get all my music back on that was stored on an external hardrive. It has shown up in Itunes as aprevious library but when I try to sync it up to my new phone it won't do it.

My iphone 4 was stolen and I now have a replacement. Luckily my music was stored on an external hard drive and when I transferred it to itunes it came up as previous library. I've been trying to sync it to my new phone but it's not working. All my apps etc have synced but the music won't. What can I do?

Click: Restoring your iTunes Library backup (from an external drive) here >  iTunes: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive
BTW, if you are a resident of the U.S, have iTunes 10.3 or later, and iOS 4.3.3, you can re download your iTunes purchases for free.

  • Stolen iPad showing up on map. LE notified. What now?

Had an iPad2 stolen this past Sunday evening from our church. Noticed Monday afternoon it was missing. Immediately logged onto iCloud to attempt to track its whereabouts. Surprisingly, someone was dumb enough to connect it to their wireless network at home. I say dumb enough, because all restrictions are enabled on the device (including no Safari, no YouTube, no purchasing apps, no in-app purchases, etc).
I called local LE and informed them that I had tracked it and had it on a map. It is in a gated subdivision at a 4,000 sq ft house worth $800K. I'm assuming their teenager probably stole it. We have cross-referenced the address with our databases and do not know the person.
LE went to the house and waited a few minutes, but left after no one answered the door. They were very nice, but were very candid in explaining that the most they can do is ask the homeowner about it and if the homeowner denies any knowledge, that is all they can do. I understand this and don't expect much more than that.
Now, three days later. Because the iPad is still on and visible on the map, and because the battery is still at about 80%, my thought it to leave it alone and just continue to watch it. I have purposely not placed it in Lost Mode just yet so as not to tip them off that we even know its missing. I'm hoping they go somewhere with it in public (coffee shop, bookstore, etc). LE told me that if they take it out of the house and I can track it and remotely have it make a sound, they can walk up and seize it - otherwise, I'm outta luck.
My question for you guys. Is this the best route? Would you continue to wait & see for it to move or would you remotely put it in Lost Mode now? I do not suspect that they are willingly going to give it back or drop it off - unless it's a parent of a teenager that took it. I was thinking about waiting until battery goes down and then putting in lost mode during the day while the kid might be at school & hoping his mom hears it and wonders what it might be.
You guys have any other creative ideas? Any creative "lock messages" I should put on it?
    Thanks!
    Travis
