Iphone stopped downloading Gmail

Upgraded to OS 4.1 on wednesday...iphone stopped downloading my gmail, but will SEND from my gmail account. wierd. I tried setting up a new gmail account; same result--no email download.
I keep getting a message that the imap.gmail.com server is not responding, but this is limited to my iphone--messages are visible on gmail webmail. No problem downloading other mail accounts. This is imap on gmail, imap is enabled. Everything worked fine until I installed 4.1.

I've been having this problem as well a lot lately (1.5 years with no problems).
If you change the imap server to imap.googlemail.com it seems to solve the problem, at least temporarily. Then when it arises you have to change it back to imap.gmail.com

Make my iPhone stop downloading Match songs I do not want on it

I tried deleting 60+ music disks from my iPhone so I could
fit new music. I noticed it getting warm in my pocket. I found all the 6.9 GB
had re-downloaded. Now I have deleted them again and have turned off Match. How
do I stop it from downloading older stuff I do not want on there anymore? I hate
to pay for wasted bandwidth. Or how do I cancel the service since I know that will
stop it?

I understand that you are experiencing some difficulties with iTunes Match. It is possible that you may need to simply adjust a setting to affect the behavior you are having issues with. Try using the information in this link to adjust your Music settings to see if this accomplishes the desired goal:
View only music that’s downloaded. Go to Settings > iTunes & App Store. Under Show All, turn off Music.

Mail 3.5 has stopped downloading gmail messages..

I can't figure out what is going on, settings are correct, but gmail messages can no longer download in Mail. It started a few days ago with only one message being downloaded at a time. I would have to repeatedly click the "get mail" button to get all of my messages. Now, nothing will download, and I know I have a backlog of messages. Again, the settings are all correct.
Anyone have ideas? I'd prefer to do mail in Mail, not connect via Safari.

Are you accessing your Gmail account as POP or IMAP? If POP, then quit Mail, and in the Finder open Home/Library/Mail and locate the file named MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded3 and remove it either by deleting or dragging from the folder. Relaunch Mail, and see if there is any improvement. Given the peculiarities of Gmail POP access this may not work if Gmail thinks you have already downloaded the messages. If so, then a setting with Web browser access may be needed.

I am facing an issue on my iphone3g. I bought an album on itunes and the internet connection gone down after downloading only 4 songs, now the other songs, not yet downloaded is checked as "waiting" and nothing happens.
Someone knows how to "refresh" the download?

How do you fix a gmail account on an iPhone 4G that stops downloading messages into the InBox? My gmail gave me a notice that said imap.gmail.com is not responding. Can send emails out but cannot download new messages into Inbox.

Hi! So I finally found a disk cleaning kit and tried it out. No luck : (
The exact thing that occurs is:
Put disk in. It does not show up. Cannot get it out.
Turn computer on and off.
Message comes up saying it cannot read the disk and if I would like to erase the disk or eject it.
Then I eject it.
That's the whole of the cycle.
So do you think that just means it;s busted and no other way I can solve it but go with the external drive at this point?

Mail App stopped downloading new messages from Gmail

I'm using MBP with OS X Lion.
I've been using Mail App for my two Gmail accounts. I also use two different types of mail downloading systems (POP and IMAP) for them. For some reason, the speed of downloading new messages started slowing down a few weeks ago; however, I could still use it until today. Today, it seems like it is completely out.
It just stopped downloading new messages completely.
For the POP account, it says:
There may be a problem with the mail server or network. Verify the settings for account “POP” or try again.
The server returned the error: The connection to the server “pop.gmail.com” on port 995 timed out.
For the IMAP account, it says:
There may be a problem with the mail server or network. Verify the settings for account “IMAP” or try again.
The server returned the error: The connection to the server “pop.gmail.com” on port 993 timed out.
The weird part is that I can still send an email out of those accounts fine.
I checked the settings for Gmail, and everything seemed just fine.
I tried to re-do everything so deleted the IMAP account. Now it shows the message below:
The Google IMAP server “imap.gmail.com” is not responding. Try checking the network connection, and that the server name is correct. Otherwise, the server might be temporarily unavailable. If you continue, you might not be able to receive messages.
I tried Connection Doctor and it shows as below:
I followed the suggestion by changing unchecking those boxes for SSL, but it didn't help either.
I tried "Rebuild" under mail box menu bar but it also didn't do anything.
Can anyone help me with this issue?

Cell data is turned off but it is still downloading.

When you initially enable iTunes Match on any iDevice it is wise to let it operate for a good period docked or with good WiFi.
Best route to stop it if essential is to switch off iTunes Match.

i called apple and they are sending me snow leopard so i should, *fingers crossed, be able to run the newer version of itunes. we'll find out for sure in a few days when it arrives

How do i stop my iphone from downloading music from the icloud when its on shuffle

Due to the limited space on my iphone, i only keep certain songs on it at one time. But when i play all music on shuffle, My iPhone is downloading songs from itunes match that i dont want. I only want the phone to shuffle through the songs already on my phone. When im out on 3G, it doesn't do it as i have music over 3G disabled in the settings, but at home on wifi, there doesn't seem to be a way to stop this happening. The other issue this causes, is that those songs then dont want to be deleted because they are not fully downloaded. Its a pain

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

That is incorrect. You can, and most people do, share one Apple ID for purchases.
All you need to do is turn off Automatic Downloads in the Store Settings of the iPhone. You do that by launching the settings app and selecting Store. There you will find the on-off toggles for the Automatic downloads.

The new iphone software update stops downloading???

It stops downloading about an hour into it saying network error, session timed out.... and it isnt like my computer turned off because i was watching it the second time... It isnt just with this update that it is happpening because it has happened on others.

Unfortunately, you are not the first user to experience this. I was hoping that you have been syncing your photos to a computer as an archiving process, but if you haven't been doing that, you might try aborting the restore and try again. If you do have the photos on a computer, you can sync them back.
