IPhone switched itself off

Hi, today I was just using my iPhone, it's a 3GS, and suddenly the screen went slightly blurry and fuzzy and then it turned off. I tried turning it back on, and nothing happened, but after a few minutes it turned itself back on anyway. This has only happened once, but I'm a little worried about it, I don't want it happening again. Is this a sign my iPhone is breaking? Is there anything I can do to stop it happening again?

It's an imperfect computer and things happen. It sounds like it reset itself which could be due to a malfunctioning app. If it happens again using the same app, delete the app or just live with it.
FYI a Reset is a good thing to do once/week or whenever you iPhone is not acting properly... press the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.

  • Recently, when I upgraded to iOS8.2, my iPhone 5c has been switching itself off randomly even when the iPhone says it still has plenty of battery left. Has anyone else had this after upgrading?

    HI.
a Couple of weeks ago I upgraded to iOS 8.2 on my iPhone 5c. However, recently it has been switching itself off at around 20-40% for no apparent reason and then goes to the plug iPhone in screen.
please can someone help and let me know if they have had the same problem and how they resolved it
    thanks in advance

This happens to me too. Went to the apple store and they check the battery life of my iphone. They took the iphone for 2 days and changed my battery for free. I hope this help you!

  • My iphone has switched itself off and will not turn on

Help!!!!, My I phone has switched itself off for no apparent reason today and now refuses to switch back on again!, hit has been working fine and is less than a year old.

Reset the iPhone by pressing and holding the sleep/wake button and the home button for 20 seconds (maybe longer) until the Apple logo appears, ignore the red slider.  Then turn back on. You won't lose any data doing the reset.

  • IPhone 4S Battery - Switching itself off

    Hello,
For the past few months I've noticed a problem with my iPhone 4s.
When the battery drops below 50%, but usually arround the 20-40% mark it will switch itself off.
I try and turn it back on and it shows me the symbol that says it needs charging.
If i leave it for a few minutes (between 5 - 15) I'll be able to switch it back on and it'll show with 20/30/40% battery.
Or if I plug it in to charge it'll switch on immediately and again say I have 20/30/40% battery.
It used to happen once in a while, but then started to become more regualr, happening a couple of times a week.
So I took it into my local Apple Store and they ran a diagnostic on it, said that it wasn't showing a battery failure, but if I wanted to pay £130 they would replace the battery for me.
Has anyone else had this issue? It's completely random so hard to replicate in store, it just happens.
My iPhone is about 18 months old if that makes any difference.
    Thanks

    Forgot to say:
I've restored my iphone a few times since then and still happens.
And the woman at the Apple Store said she'd never come across this problem before.

  • IPhone 4S switched itself off and wont come back on. Please help?

    Hi,
My iPhone 4S has started switching itself off randomly over the last week but would then switch itself back on several minutes later by itself. However, last night it switched itself off and no matter what ive tried it wont come back on. Ive tried the home+power button, connected to itunes and not, connected to itunes with the home button pressed. I rang the Geek Squad as I have insurance and they could suggest anything more. Im loathed to take it back to the shop as all the sales assistant will do is send it off, give me a rubbish temporary phone/brick and it will take ages to come back. I would be grateful if anyone can help please?

Hi, my phone eventually came back to life of its own accord the next day but with virtually no battery life even though I'd given it a full charge. After it came back on I plugged it in to be recharged but the back became very warm whilst the power drained quicker than usual after I unplugged it.
I took it to the Apple store later that day and thankfully the phone switched itself off again right in front of one of the Genius assistants. He couldn't diagnose the problem and so gave me a brand new handset straight away. Credit to Apple there and I'm so glad I didn't take it back to the car phone warehouse where I bought it from. They would have sent it away for tests for weeks.
I've had no problems with my new handset to date.

What do I do if my iPhone just switched itself off and won't turn back on again? It does not even register power when I plug it in to my car or home charger or computer???

If you hold the home button and power button for about 10 seconds it will turn back on. I have had his issue 3 times but don't know what fixes it for good

  • Ive had my iphone 4s since 10th april and on three seperate occassions its switched itself off completely (whilst having battery) it then wont work for around 2 days, this is very annoying and I dont know what to do as its been out for around 12hours now

I don't know why my phone keeps switching itself off, I've never dropped it, had water damage nor any other damage to it. Ive had it for around 5 months or so now and it just likes to switch itself off for around 30-40 hours then work again as though nothing happened. Although this is great as it will eventually work its  very frustrating not knowing if it will switch on again.. at the minute my phone hasnt worked for about 10-12 hours. I went in to the apple shop and they said they couldnt see me for over a week as they were fully booked, I understand that theyre busy but surely they can't expect me to go without a phone/alarm/email for that time when I am paying for it. Does anyone have any help/advice they can offer? Thanks

    Standard troubleshooting...
    1. Try a Restart by pressing the sleep/lock button until you see the slider.  Slide to power off.  Restart by pressing the sleep/lock button until you see the Apple logo.
    2. Try a Reset by pressing the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider if it comes up. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.
    3. Remove apps from Recently Used list...
    - From any Home Screen, double tap the home button to bring up the Recents List
    - Swipe up on the app preview card
    - Press the home button when done.
    4. If still a problem restore with your backup.
    5. If still a problem restore as new, i.e. without your backup. See how it runs with nothing synced to it.
    6. If still a problem, it's likely a hardware issue.

  • HT201412 My iphone 4S switches itself off regularly. The battery is well charged, however. So I don't understand what's going on. Anybody got any idea. Thanks a lots

My 4S keeps on switching itself off for no apparent reason. I've had to restore 3 times already. Does anybody have an idea ? Thanks

I should mention it is ios 6.1.3. The phone has now also started, after rebooting, showing the signal bars next to the wifi signal icon at the top but no "Sprint" type next to the bars as usual. And then after a few minutes it shuts down, shows the black screen with the white apple in the middle for a few moments, comes back up with the Waiting for Activation message, the signal bars pop up and the whole cycle just repeats itself.

  • My iPad switches itself off when I'm on the Internet help

When I'm using my iPad on the net it switches itself off and I'm having to turn it back on again and out in my password I only want to use it properly

    Hi Lisah,
It sounds like you may have some corrupted files in the operating system -- when built-in apps and features like Camera and Siri malfunction, corrupted files are often the culprit.  There are a few things you can do to fix this -- first thing I'd recommend would be to back up your device to make sure you have all of your current data and settings saved.  Back up and restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch using iCloud or iTunes - Apple Support
After backing up your data, try resetting all settings in Settings > General > Reset.  Try the camera and charger again to see if you still see the same strange behavior.  If so, there's likely a corrupted file in the iOS installation.  It's pretty easy to reinstall the operating system files to fix this -- you will need a computer with internet access.  Follow the steps in Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings - Apple Support to completely reinstall the iOS files and get a fresh, clean installation.
After using iTunes to restore the phone, go through the setup assistant on the phone and choose the option to Set up as a new iPhone.  Set it up as new and test the camera again -- if it works this time, that's a good sign!  After making sure it works properly, you can restore from the backup that created before doing all of the resets and restores.  This will bring your content and settings back to the phone.
    Good luck!

  • How do i stop my iphone turning itself off?

I have just bought an iphone 4, which i think is brilliant and really usefull..........but, it just keeps switching itself off at random times? I have restored it 3 times, but no joy .....can anyone help? or is it just a case of getting it exchanged?

Is it actually powering down, or just having a nap because you are not using it?  How do you have to fire it up again? Holding down the button on the top (it's been switched off) or tapping the Home button at the centre bottom (it's been asleep)?

  • My i phone 4 keeps switching itself off

Does anyone have an issue where the I-phone 4 just switches itself off, and the only way to get it running again is to connect to the charger and switch it on , it then comes up with a message to say the battery level is it 30% ?

I have the same issue! In fact I posted this exact question!!

    Hi,
My iPhone 4s 16GB is giving me a lot of issues with its battery as of late. Once the battery level reaches below about 30% the phone randomly turns itself off -- even if the battery level didn't reach zero. When I try to turn it back on, it just shows the out of charge symbol on the screen. When I plug it in however it turns itself back on immediately and shows the battery level it turned itself off on. I can then unplug it and continue to use it until the battery level drops to zero or the issue happens again.
Both my mom and my sister have the same model iPhone as me and do not have this issue. What should I do? (It has already been restored).
    Additional info:
    - My Phone is about 23months old
    - Running iOS 6.1.3
    - This issue has been happening for about 3 months or more
EDIT: Just upgraded to iOS 7... didn't help. Infact it made it worse! The phone battery now drains quicker which means the issue happens sooner!
    This is so annoying!
