IPhone Sync Broken after 10.5.2

When I try to sync my iPhone it hangs and after fifteen minutes I canceled the sync.
Anyone else have the same problem, or solution/workaround?
Thanks.

I had this problem some time ago, what I did to fix it was to repair permisions and then restore the iPhone using iTunes. Try that and report back for the benefit of other users.

  • IPhone syncs automatically after restore despite 'prevent automatic sync' in iTunes preferences

iPhone 4 just restored to deal with memory issue, and after restore, it starts to sync automatically when I connect it to my laptop (OS X 10.9.5, iTunes 11.4) despite checking 'Prevent iDevices from syncing automatically' in iTunes preferences.
iTunes summary screen for the phone, under options, shows a grayed-out 'Automatically sync when this iPhone is connected' phrase, with no box to deselected to fix it.
Any idea what is going on?

This one was odd:  it stopped after the first sync was finally completed--had to interrupt several times to use the phone away from the computer before all the music and photos were fully reloaded.  Now it waits appropriately for next sync.  This is probably why no one else had seen this or replied.

  • Iphoto-iphone sync weirdness after upgrading to Mavericks

I didn't receive any replies on the Mavericks board, so I'll repost this here.  Really puzzled and annoyed.
recently upgraded my iMac to Mavericks from Snow Leopard (early adopter that I am).  Much has gone more smoothly than I expected.
However, one thing that is really strange is that after I synced my iphone 5s, I noticed that two of the iphoto albums I've synced include some extraneous photos on the phone (not in the albums on iphoto on the iMac).  I tried deleting the albums from the phone during the next sync, duplicating and renaming them in iphoto, and syncing to the new albums, but the extraneous pictures are still there.
I'm syncing to my computer and not icloud, for what it's worth.
Since then, I've noticed that not only are most of the albums messed up, but the time/date stamps on the pictures are all wrong so sorting by date reusults in a fairly chaotic mess.
    Any ideas/suggestions?
    Thanks.

Just upgraded and Iphoto will not work,
Check that iPhoto is v9.5.1 (In Applications, highlight iPhoto, and ⌘I)
If it is v9.5.1, then hold option-command and click the iPhoto icon and go through the repair steps.

  • IPhone syncing issues after iTunes upgrade

    Hi
I just upgraded to iTunes 8.1.1 for Mac. During the install I got a kernel panic and had to restart. iTunes seems to be installed fine. When I connect my iPhone I get messages like "some content will not be copied to the iPhone as this computer is not authorized" or such like. So now several apps, videos and music has been wiped from the iPhone.
I tried authorizing the computer but I just get "This computer is already authorized".
there does not seem to be any particular link between the erased content. Some was purchased on the Mac and some on the iPhone, all from the iTunes store. Before I updated iTunes everything synced fine.
I can d/l the apps again direct to the iPhone but I can't find a way to get the missing music and videos back on the iPhone. Very annoying.
    Would re-installing iTunes help?
    Any ideas?
    Thanks
    Chris

    Hi Chris,
Try highlighting the one of the songs that will not sync in iTunes> cilck File> Get Info, check the account name and verifying you are authorizing the computer with correct account.
If the issue persists, try removing the SC Info folder as shown here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1389
If you still see the issue after removing the SC Info folder, try reinstalling iTunes as shown here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1224

  • ITunes-to-iPhone sync broken

Both my iPhone and my iMac are top-of-the-line, less than three months old, and are running the latest, most updated system software. However, since upgrading to these glistening, state-of-the-art devices, I have been unable to consistently produce acceptable results when attempting to sync music and podcasts from the computer to the phone.
New songs that I have purchased and downloaded through the iTunes Store appear on my computer in the iTunes library and on the iPhone. However, on the iPhone, the new songs show only as available downloads, with the little cloud/arrow icon next to them. When I tap this, the red square-in-a-circle icon appears, meaning the song is going to download all over again, so if I’m not in WiFi range, I’m outta luck. In iTunes > iPhone > On This Phone, the songs appear, but are greyed out.
Furthermore, most of the podcasts that I have downloaded to my computer and synced with the phone are unplayable on the phone, eliciting a “this episode is temporarily unavailable” message.
So far, 3 things “fix” the first problem.
    1. Remove all the music, (by unchecking “Sync Music” in iTunes > iPhone > Music and clicking “Apply”), then resync it by re-checking the box and re-applying. The whole library. Every time I want to add even 1 new song. This takes an hour.
    2. A full restore — as suggested by Apple — also fixes it, but alas, this “fix,” aside from being extremely time-consuming and labor-intensive, is only temporary. Within a few hours or days the issue recurs.
    3. Tick the box labeled “Manually manage music and videos” in iTunes > iPhone> Summary. With this method, I connect the phone and drag my newly downloaded song from the iTunes music library list over to the right-hand side of the window. An “Add To” device list pops up, and I release the song into my phone. The song now appears in iTunes > iPhone > On This Phone, so I click “sync”. Sometimes this works, but at least half the time, the same exact steps produce the message “The iTunes Library file cannot be saved. An unknown error occurred (-54).” Sometimes this error dialog box persists through multiple attempts to dismiss it.
The podcast issue cannot, as far as I can tell, be resolved even by a clunky workaround. If I want to listen to a podcast on my iPhone, I must manually download it directly to the device via WiFi. This isn’t a fix for me, since my daily routine takes place in rural areas where WiFi is not available. Even a manually downloaded podcast reverts, inexplicably, to the “unavailable” state every time I sync the phone again.
It would be much simpler if the podcast app merely worked the way it used to prior to Mavericks and iOS7 and iTunes 11, by which I mean: podcasts that have already been downloaded to iTunes on the computer should simply sync with the selected device when “sync” is clicked. Alas.
Over the past weeks I have read at least fifteen threads on these issues, none of which offer anything like a workable, permanent solution, and all of which contain innumerable instances of plaintive wailing by frustrated customers who merely want what they paid for. It is a pity that these pretty, expensive gadgets cannot perform even a simple sync without eliciting anger and despair.

    Hi there,
I would recommend taking a look at the troubleshooting steps found in the article below.

  • IPhone sync issues after recent upgrades

Fellow community members and (hopefully) developer or product folks in Cupertino....
Ever since the latest releases of iTunes (11.1.2) and iOS (7.0.3) I have been unable to perform a succesful sync - which quite frankly is unnaccepatable.
I'm on an older MacBook running OS X 10.6.8 and an iPhone 4S, but I'd be amazed if this wasn't a featured combo in pre-release QA?
On researching this issue it seems like a number of people are experiencing the same thing, which seems anchored in music and playlists? I can back-up, sync/copy apps, but when it comes to music the whole thing seizes up. I've tried some of the community suggested work arounds but to no avail.
Here are the traits of the issue I'm seeing:
iTunes goes through the motions of syncing but falls over on step 6 of 6 - "Waiting for changes to apply". From my experience you could be waiting a long time; a very long time. Odds are America might have plugged it's budget defecit by the time my phone syncs.
I've checked and un-checked options to re-teach my phone about my music playlists but this has had no effect. It's Halloween as I write this and I notice my phone now shows the ghost of playlists past - the music isn't there, but the metadata is, along with icons suggesting I download these tracks? A new commercial feature to boost iTunes revenue, or a buggy and crappy user experience? The more synical out there may say both.
Come on Apple, this stuff really lets you down, what's the official line? WIll this be patched in an update and in the meantime is there a workaround that works?

I haven't been able to pull off a successful sync since last Saturday...the same day I updated my 4s to 7.0.3. And since the update my 4s will not play ANY mp3 or music file I uploaded to iTunes. I've long been an apple device junkie and shrugged off the anti-apple & droid fan boys...but this is absolutely unacceptable. There should've been an official statement by now letting people know they're aware of the problem and are working on it.

Yeah it seems to be fine although I'm a bit reluctant to fire it up with the Mac just incase. Thanks for the response btw

  • How to sync iPhone 4 & 4S after new Mac hard drive installed?

The hard drive on our Mac crashed recently.  After we had it replaced, we can't load new music from iTunes to either my iPhone 4 or to my wife's iPhone 4S.  What do I need to do to get this to work?
Also, we had issues before syncing 2 iPhones to 1 computer - combined contacts, resulting in duplications and my apps showing up on her phone.  Any suggestions to avoid this from happening again?

No computer backup which should include your iTunes library, photos, documents, and any other important data?
When you say you can't load new music on either iPhone, this should mean you are getting a warning message that all iTunes content on the iPhones will be erased first?
Each iOS device synced with iTunes has its own sync preferences with iTunes. If you were syncing contacts with the same Address Book with each iPhone, contacts will be synced between both iPhones and the Address Book.
If the same apps are selected under the Apps tab for the iPhone sync preferences with each iPhone, the same apps will be transferred to each iPhone. Each device has its own sync preferences with iTunes.
If you are sharing the same iCloud account on each iPhone with contacts turned on for over the air syncing with the iCloud account settings on each iPhone, contacts will be synced between the two iPhones.
If you are sharing the same iTunes account or Apple ID on each iPhone, there are settings at Settings > iTunes & App Store under Automatic Downloads to automatically download music, apps, books, and app updates downloaded with another OS device sharing the same Apple ID for iTunes and App Store purchases/downloads.

On your iMac launch iTunes and at the top next to the Apple symbol click iTunes > Preferences > Devices and tell me what you see. You last sync should be there showing only a device name. If you have an older backup it will be there as well the difference is it will be the device name with a date and time stamp. Sync and backups are two different things and there is a chance iTunes made a backup the first time you hooked up your iPhone 5.

  • When I sync my iPhone it stops after step 4 of 5.

When I sync my iPhone it stops after step 4 of 5. iTunes aborts the sync process without any further error message. Anyone have a solution?

It does say in the iTunes status window.
If for music, try deselecting Sync Music under the Music tab followed by a sync. This will remove all music from your iPhone.
Follow this by reselecting Sync Music making your selections below followed by another sync.

Music on my iPhone has become very difficult to edit since upgrading to 5.0.1.  If I simply want to delete some songs, it insists on a complete sync cycle after EACH one I delete.  This is so annoying… (I have over 400 Christmas songs I won't need until next year) I have also noticed it randomly keeps updating album artwork…adding more time to each sync.  Is there some way I can turn off the syncing until I have picked and deleted all the songs I want?

The cause was probably a USB glitch during a sync or when copying. The music resides on the phone in separate files. A master file contains a database with an index to the music, an entry for each track and a "pointer" to the file containing the track. Somehow the index got corrupted with duplicate entries. It's likely that the music itself wasn't duplicated, but some tracks had more than one entry in the database. I've seen this happen when syncing (rather than manually managing) also. In my case deleting the track from the Music tab in iTunes, syncing, then adding it back fixed it.
A related problem I've seen is an album may be split, with some tracks in each of 2 or more album entries in the listing. Fixed the same way.

I read your entire message, and my mom's iPhone 5 does this exact same thing. When the idiot at the AT&T store transferred her data (well, most of it) to her new phone, he DID NOT use her latest iCloud backup like he should have, but used some features in "Bump" to move things across. So, in my opinion, it's not worth the hassle of restoring it as a new device as Tim suggests. That's just the easy answer. Here's something odd about hers. It seems to do this, when she's using her bluetooth earpiece (a Jawbone Icon), but not when she's got bluetooth disabled on the iPhone 5 and holding down the "Home" button to activate Siri. If she uses her Jawbone bluetooth earpiece to activate Siri, the answer that Siri presents on the phone's screen will only stay on for about five seconds, then dim, then go blank -- and she has to "swipe to unlock" and, of course, the Siri information is gone. Not so if she uses the Home key to activate Siri.

  • Where do broken iPhone screens go after Apple replaces them?

Was just wondering where do broken iPhone screens go after Apple replaces them
Our business buys them back from non-official iPhone repair centers but it seems Apple stores don't have the authority (for good cause) to sell to a company like ours. Regardless, I was wondering what Apple might do with them as I'm sure it's tens of thousands a week if they added up from all of their locations in just the US alone.

I always assumed they went to Apple Heaven.
