IPhone sync Crashes iTunes

When i try to sync my iPhone with iTunes, iTunes crashes. I have reset my MAC, reinstalled iTunes, rebuilt iTunes Library, repaired permissions, deleted all applications on iPhone and iTunes. The sync still crashes. I have tried to sync my wife's iphone and have no problems, just the 3G. I have tried to sync on another MAC. iTunes crashes there also.
In all cases I can sync with iPhoto, but it iPhone never appears in iTune's sidebar and it crashes. I have checked the forums and no luck ot their suggestions. Any ideas?

This problem is so incredibly annoying to me. I download tons of podcasts directly from the iphone and then I can't sync it. I don't download them directly to the computer because I don't have much space and I just don't want them on there. Plus the added step would be annoying.
I tried the <10 podcast solution but that didn't work for me. The worse was right before a trip the synch deleted 100 podcasts I had downloaded, and also whenever i'd play music it would randomly stop in the middle of a song. I ended up having to restore the whole phone when I got back.
The one thing I've always had problems on the iPhone with is syncing. Even with everything set to manual I've always had some problem or another.
Please fix this problem, it's been around for a long time now.

  • I had my ipod touch and iphone synced to itunes on my computer that just bit the dust...If I don't replace the computer, can I still add stuff to these two devices?

I had my ipod touch and iphone synced to itunes on my PC and basically managed my photos and music, etc. from there.  However recently my computer died and I am considering replacing it with an ipad eventually.  Can I still add stuff onto my two devices?  And if so, am I limited to apple store purchases only?  Can I retain all the photos and non-apple store downloaded music that is presently on these two devices?  Any guidance in this area will be very welcome!

  • Can more than 1 iphone sync with itunes?

can more than 1 iphone sync with itunes?

    mbraase wrote:
    This isn't a problem, but a question.
    1. Can you sync your iphone with remote to more than one itunes library (such as itunes on 2 different computers)?
Yes you can sync with more than one iTunes Library. I just did it today with the library on my Mac and PC
    if so then...
    2. Does the itunes have to be maximized for the remote function to work, or can it be minimized on the task bar at the bottom?
On my mac I can play the songs with iTunes minimized.
The reason why, is I want to sync my iphone with my mother's computer at her house, and put some sound effects on her library. Then I want to turn her itunes on and minimize it and wait until she starts working on her pc and then I can play some practical jokes on her making her computer make weird noises (sound effects on itunes).
Any answers would be appreciated by me (but not my mother).
Thanks, and happy pranking to you all

My iPhone isn't connected to iTunes but the past few days it has been telling me to connect so I have tried but when I plug it in it doesn't show up under 'devices'. I thought maybe there was something wrong with my computer or iTunes so I plugged in my iPod. However, this synced to iTunes successfully. I don't know how to make my iPhone sync with iTunes but somehow I need to get this problem solved otherwise I will not be able to use my phone!

  • Syncing my iPhone immediately crashes iTunes in Leopard

I installed Leopard last weekend, and before that I never had any problems syncing my iPhone. But now that I've installed it, whenever I connect my iPhone to its dock, iTunes gives me the spinning beach ball until I force quit out of it. It doesn't show up on the sources list or anything.
The weird thing is, when I first ran into this problem I tried syncing my iPhone many, many times, and some times it would start syncing successfully, but it would hang as it was transferring files, never finishing entirely. But for the vast majority of my attempts at syncing it crashes immediately.
    Things I've tried so far:
    1) Repaired permissions / repaired disk using Disk Utility. No result.
    2) Deleted the iTunes cache files (~/Libary/Caches/iTunes and /User/Caches/iTunes). This fixed a similar syncing issue in another discussion. After restarting, my iPhone synced successfully! But then the next time I tried syncying, after another restart, iTunes went back to its old behavior and crashed. The cache folders are still gone so I don't know why that only worked once.
Really hoping that someone can help me out here as I'm dying to listen to some new music in the car Thanks in advance.

I didn't think I would have an effect, so I didn't try it initially, but reinstalling iTunes has solved the issue! Case closed.

  • IPhone 4 crashes itunes when syncing..

as the title says when i try and sync my brand new iphone 4 it crashes itunes so i cant get any music or anything onto it.

    SOLUTION!!!
Ok so the deal is, that it is in fact a rogue song/album messing up the sync. To find the error, I was fortunate to have a second Iphone 3G (My Old One).
I synched the songs step by step in Itunes. That is, I unchecked "Sync Entire Library" and went step by step through each artist. To expedite this you can go "All the A's" or "All the B's" whatever works for you. Sit and watch where things go wrong and you get the "Iphones has encountered a problem and needs to close"
I found one album that caused the break. Note, as soon as you locate the problem area that's crashing, uncheck the block of artists you were synching. Begin to synch step by step until you find the problem Album / Artist.
Next, I tried to fix things in a variety of ways. I noticed some file names were long, and this had been causing earlier issues. Convert long song names to AAC, Itunes will make a smaller file name. I did this and was able to continue the synching process. Other times, I'd try this and Itunes would crash just turning a file into AAC. I deleted these files from the library and voila, continued synching.
Really odd issues, hopefully this works for you. please feel free to let me know if you're still having issues.

  • IPhone 3G crashes iTunes when plugged in

Whenever I plug in my iPhone 3g into my computer iTunes starts to automatically sync and eventually stops responding. I've turned off the automatic sync in iTunes preferences, tried trashing iTunes and iTunes helper preferences to no avail. I have triple checked my settings to manually manage music and video and disabling auto sync. I've tried deleting apps, doing a hard reset, restarting both the computer and the phone and it's still hanging. If I unplug the phone while iTunes is crashing iTunes recovers and functions normally, if I force quit iTunes won't actually quit until I unplug the phone. I've tried restoring my phone but I can't since every time I plug in the phone iTunes crashes! Help please, I'm at my wits end!

Were you able to get your iPhone to sync without crashing iTunes?
I've tried multiple times and have restarted the iPhone, re-installed iTunes and still no luck. iTunes crashes and crashes every time I try to sync or update the iPhone to 2.2.1.
Any help would be much appreciated.

  • Connecting iPhone 4 Crashes iTunes 10 On G4 Powerbook...

Hi everyone - hope someone might be able to shed some light here...
My buddy just got a new iP4 to replace his 3G which got dunked in a cup of coffee. The first hurdle was that his computer (a 12" 1.33Ghz G4 Powerbook) was running Tiger. So we did a fresh install of Leopard (10.5.x), ran all updates, and installed iTunes 10.
iTunes 10 opens and runs just fine. He connected his new phone to the computer and it prompted him if he'd like to restore it from his back-up. He proceeded to run the restore and it seemed like it was starting, but then his phone rebooted and iTunes crashed. The phone restarted and works fine, but no info synced over from the laptop.
Now, whenever he connects his iP4 it crashed iTunes immediately. Also worth noting that iPhoto sees and treats the phone as a camera device and he can access photos but that it.
So....anyone have any ideas???? I've suggested he make a Genius bar appt. but he won't have time to do this until the week after next.

Hi Allen - thanks for replying.
I'm unsure of the specs on his USB ports. He has had an iPhone 3G and used it with no issues for a couple of years. I'm not sure if you meant that USB 1.1 isn't compatible with 10.5 or the iP4 or both.
*Edit - based on what I am seeing online the USB on that machine should be 2.0*
He tried reinstalling iTunes along with deleting some preference files (which we found suggested elsewhere) and that didn't help.
I/We did not repair disk permission after the install. As I did a clean install (i.e. erase & install) followed by running migration assistant I didn't think that would be an issue. I will suggest we try that though just to see.

  • Manually open iphone sync in itunes... HOW??

I have turned off the "auto-sync" option in iTunes, so that every time I plug in my iphone, it won't automatically sync, and it will allow me to sync manually at my discretion. When auto-sync is turned ON, iTunes starts automatically when the phone is plugged in, and it opens to the appropriate iphone sync screens, specifically the Summary tab. However, it doesn't work this way when auto-sync is turned off. Somehow, you have to open the sync screens in itunes manually. But.... HOW???
How do I get to that iphone Summary tab when I want to sync manually?? I plug my phone in, and I manually start iTunes, but I am not seeing any choices or options to open the iphone "Summary" tab. It is nowhere to be found!. I have navigated all over that program trying to find how to open the iphone sync screens, and I cannot find a way! Help!! Anybody....?

    PC   Windows XP Pro

in iTunes clikc on the name of your device "john smiths iPhone" - should be listed on the left side of the screen where your library, purchased music, videos, playlists, etc. When you click it opens the iPhone's "info" tab and you can get there from there.

  • Need help with my iphone syncing to itunes

I have recently got a new computer (no access to old one) downloaded itunes and bought about 35 songs now it won't let me sync them to my iphone without deleting everything else on the iphone around 3000 songs how can i stop this
    thanks in advance

    Hello there Tami P.,
I was thinking either one of a few things here. You may need to open the Music tab in the iPhone device window and select the music you want to sync over to the phone. Use this article to help with that if needed:
    iOS: Syncing with iTunes
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1386.
Also you may need to associate the device with your Apple ID then try syncing again. Use this article to help with that:
iTunes Store: Associating a device or computer to your Apple ID
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4627
If all else fails, I would recommend restorign the phone through iTunes.

  • IPhone syncing crash

Starting just recently, any time I plug my iPhone into charge (it charges by being plugged into my late 2008 Macbook Pro over night), the phone makes the sync noise, then does it again, and then repeats over and over again until the iPhone finally crashes and has to restart. After doing that, it tends to stay on, but disconnects and reconnects every few minutes. This is becoming really annoying, especially since it won't stay connected long enough to even sync music or Apps most of the time.
I know it's not my USB ports on my MacBook Pro, so I'm assuming it's either the cord or the iPhone itself. Has anyone else ever had this issue? And if so, what resolved it?

It may be a faulty USB cable.
Do you have another iPhone USB dock connector cable to try?
If the cable is faulty, it will be covered under the warranty. You can call AppleCare at (800) 694-7466, or make an appointment at an Apple store if there is one nearby.
If you want to test this yourself by purchasing another iPhone USB cable, a new cable costs $19, which can be purchased at an AT&T corporate store, or at a Best Buy store if an Apple store is not nearby. If it turns out that your USB cable is faulty and you purchase another one yourself, you probably won't be reimbursed by Apple. In order to have Apple replace it under warranty, you need to call AppleCare or make an appointment at an Apple store if there is one nearby.
If a new cable doesn't resolve it, and you know for certain there is nothing wrong with the USB ports on your Mac, then the problem probably lies with your iPhone.

  • Iphone sync crashes optimizing iphoto

So my iphone sync works fine unless I'm trying to sync it with photos from iphoto. During the optimizing stage, it always crashes. I thought it might be ilife 06 so I upgraded to ilife 08. Nothing changed. It will sync to aperture, but I don't use aperture for all my photos. any ideas?

Having the same issue. My only guess at this point is that it has to do with a 3rd party app. When I (de)synced applications and selected only the last 5 events from iphoto it worked. I am sure there is a good answer out there. Anybody...
