Iphone synchronization

The changes with Photos are driving me insane.
I checked the "delete photos after import" box when I imported the last batch of photos from my iphone, and now they are gone from my iPhone, even after I keep synchronizing with iTunes.
With iPhoto, these photos would again get synchronized to the proper folders on the phone after processing. Why does Photos not synchronize with the iPhone the way iPhoto does?
I do not have iCloud sharing enabled because, frankly, I still can't see why on earth I would want to upload 8 Gigabytes of photos to the cloud.
How do I get the photos I want back onto my phone?

It sounds like some apps that have been added to your iTunes library are automatically being added to your iPhone when you connect it.
You should be able to prevent this activity by unchecking the Automatically Sync new apps check box in the Apps tab of iTunes when you have the phone selected.
The screen shot is a bit small, but you can see the checkbox underneath the list of apps in that section:

Ugh how im gonna start this..... So ive got my iphone replaced 3 months ago , couple of weeks later my mac's hard drive died, the last time i back up my mac was in late last year so i think itunes is bonded with my old iphone, im just wondering if i now connect my iphone to my mac would it erase everything on my iphone? thx

So if I understand you correctly it will be the first time syncing this phone with this computer? Just watch for the prompts. As far as contacts, calendars and notes go, if you are syncing those they should just merge with the info on the new computer, you will likely get a popup asking to either replace or merge. For synced videos, songs, pictures, etc., you will only get the options to either erase and sync or cancel. You'd want to do a transfer purchases from the File menu to copy over any purchases to the computer so it doesn't erase those, and maybe find a third party program online to rip the rest of it off the phone for you.

How can I get my voice memos off of my iPhone?

I have a new iPhone and took some pictures and recorded a few voice memos. I would like to save these before I restore my iPhone to the back up I have on my computer. I was able to import the photos into iPhoto, but I am not sure how to import the voice memos. Normally, I would see them in iTunes under the Voice Memos playlist, but they are not there. When I click on the iPhone in iTunes it gives me a choice of restoring from back up or setting up as a new iPhone. I am worried that either of choices would get rid of the two voice memos I have on my iPhone. Any advice?

I have some information here that may help you import your voice memos into iTunes. This information is written for the iPod, but the steps for saving your voice memos should be the same with your iPhone:
Synchronize
If iPod is set to update songs automatically and you record voice memos, the voice memos are automatically downloaded to a playlist in iTunes when you connect iPod. Once downloaded, the voice memos are removed from the Voice Memos folder on your iPod. To play the voice memos that have been synchronized to your computer in iTunes, select the Voice Memos playlist on the left side of the iTunes window. To play the synchronized voice memos on the iPod, select the Voice Memos playlist in the Music menu, not the Voice Memos menu in the Extras menu.

How can I get my voice memos back to the voice memo app on my iphone

Yeah, i just synced my iphone with my iTunes library and almost everything went smooth.. my pictures, apps, contacts, calendar, etc. But I can not find the most important thing, the voice memos.. I had transferred them to my iTunes library the last time i synced, so i thought logically they should sync back into my voice memo app. Its important because they were lectures (im in college)! And I planned to keep in order until the end of the semester until i had to restore it and back it up (because i went to get a new iphone)..
But now, i open the voice memo app, and its blank, there's not one memo.. And i don't know how to get them back in there.. I think i could put them in my Music library, but i dont want to do that. I like to keep them in the voice memo app, so when i have exams i can just go back and listen to them in order (without them being all over the place.)
So all I'm asking is, is there a way to get my voice memos back to the voice memo app? I have the latest version of iTunes (11.0.1.12) and an iPhone 4 with the latest iOs (6.0.1) and note i have a PC (Windows 7).. I hate how iTunes totally changed their layout, it makes it harder. That's why i couldn't follow older discussions on here, because the update made the layout so different.. Anyway, if you know what i should do, i would be very grateful. Thanks.

Cannot Restore Apps On Older iPhones

I am still a happy user of an iPhone 2G, running iOS 3.1.3 (the latest compatible iOS version).
Some time ago, possibly after a faulty App Store update, my Slovoed application (a German dictionary bought 2-3 years ago for $20) stopped working.
I first tried to reinstall it from the App Store : no luck, the present Slovoed version (3.28) is not compatible with iOS 3 anymore.
I then thought, no problem, since I have a Mac iTunes save of my iPhone 2G, I will restore the proper Slovoed application from iTunes : no luck, apparently iTunes kept only the latest, incompatible version of Slovoed, possibly because I was synchronizing on the same Mac not only this iPhone 2G under iOS 3.1.3 but also an iPad mini under iOS 6.1.
Searching the Internet, I then discovered that when you save/synchronize, iTunes keeps only the latest versions of Apps in the /Users/<user>/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Mobile Applications folder, pushing the previously saved versions of the Apps to the trash.
You can recover IN THE TRASH (!!) the .ipa files of the applications... as long as you have NOT emptied the trash since.
No luck again in my case...
I then tried to get the compatible Slovoed 3.01.ipa file directly from Slovoed support : they refused "for security reasons" (?!), suggesting I get a refund from the App Store !.
At that point, I am completely stuck : I paid for an App which I cannot restore at all with the proper original version.
Bottom line : you can buy an Application on the App Store, install it on your iPhone, synchronize regularly your iPhone with a Mac or PC, and still being unable later on to restore the proper compatible version on your iPhone when you direly need it !
This would never have happened on any old Mac/PC for which you had kept the install disks !
One can understand that Apple wants to accelerate its older iPhones obsolescence, but it is completely abnormal you cannot restore from the App Store older applications you fully bought, when the latest versions have become incompatible, and while iTunes does not keep proper Apps backups.
Shame on you Apple, at some point there will be enough people with the same issue to give ground to a nice class action suite...

But may be if you don't want to understand what is plainly written, it is just because you are a troll paid to discourage those too critical about Apple ?
It is Apple who decided to have the App Store maintain a single App version for download, when they could as easily differentiate between versions depending on the iPhone version or iOS version.
It is Apple who built a save/restore mechanism in iTunes which does not allow restoration of Apps properly saved.
Sure, Apps developers could have Apps running on all 6 versions of iOS. But that never happened in the Mac/PC world, that will not happen in the iOS world, and anyway that's not what I am asking for.
I am asking for a save/restore mechanism WHICH WORKS and restores the iPhone in the same state it was when saved, APPS INCLUDED !!!

Importing pictures from Iphone 3gs to the Imac (using Iphoto?)

I recently bought an Imac 27". Everything is set up and updated and now I want to import the 2,500 photos I have on my iphone on to my mac. But Im having problems.
The Iphone synchronizes with Itunes fine. But under "pictures" If I check the box "synchronize pictures from Iphoto" (Maybe I shouldnt do this but I though I needed to to get the pictures from my Iphone to Iphoto" it gives me the message "Are you sure you want to synchronize pictures? all the pictures and albums on your Iphone will be replaced with pictures and albums from the current picturegallery"(roughly transelated)
I didnt do this since as I understand it this will cause me to loose all my 2,500 pictures I have on the Iphone.
When I open Iphoto it doesnt detect the Iphone at all.. No Iphone in the left menu at all. Image capture doesnt detect the Iphone either.
*So what can I do to get the pictures from my iphone on to my mac?*
The pictures in the camera roll are
1. Pictures taken with the Iphone
2. Pictures taken with another persons Iphone and that got sent to me
3. Pictures taken with another persons mobile(not an Iphone( and that got sent to me
4.Pictures saved from the net from safari browser
5. Pictures edited in Iphone apps and saved from the apps they where edited in.
if that info helps at all.. Im very confused now and I hopesomeone can help me out here. I though Iphone and Imac where supposed to be easy..

English is not my mother tongue but I will try to answer this the best I can from what I have understood..
The Iphone has synchronized with my pc previously and the apps I had on my Iphone then went to the Itunes I used on that computer.
I got the Imac yesterday and did synchronize the Iphone with the Itunes on the Imac wich caused me to loose over half of my applications and the one album I had on the Iphone. I have checked the boxes on everything so that Itunes synchronizes everything with the Iphone now, I guess this has nothing to do with backup but I thought I had to check the boxes for it to backup all of the things I want backup of.
When I open the adressbook program on the mac I can see my contacts there so I guess the backup is there then...
I dont really understand the Itunes content question.. I have no Itunes content no more except for the apps. I only had one album before wich was lost when I synchronized with the Imac.
The thing you talked about not syncing with an empty adressbook. you mean like after I have reset my Iphone so its blank I have to make a dummy contant before I connect it to the Imac and synchronizes the contacts? and choose merge instead of replace?
how do I actually format and reset the whole Iphone back to fabric condition? and after I have done that and connected it to the Itunes should I uncheck everybox in the sync options except contacts and then sync the Iphone?
After that I would assume I should delete the backup I have on Itunes from before I reset the Iphone so that all the pictures wont get put back in my Iphone?

I think that I was asking two different questions at the same time, because the problem with the iPhone synchronization was solved, but the .Mac Address Book still has no new contacts... just the contacts before the Mac OS X update to Leopard. I guess that I will need to look for help in other discussion topic.

Nuts isn't it. This seems to have been an issue snce dAY 1. iT FROSTS ME THAT THERE IS NO SIMPLE QUICK WAY TO UPDATE OR CORRECT the data in both programs simultaneously.. Thats why i decided to just put everytning into the i cloud address brook, and let the one other sit and rot.
then i got smart and said, why don't I delete the outlookaddress book files. and save on confusion.
result - both addresses books and their contents became invisible to outlook.!!!!!! and I can find no way to correct this...to go back to the imperfect world that was.
I did get the outlook contact s back from an archive - but any thing from icloud has become inaccessible from outlook. (fortunately i can get the vcard infformation directly from icloud. but I can't access it from outlook mail.... means no replying, forwarding etc - and a time swallowing nuisance..

Fatal error in synchronizing iPhone with outlook! But no error warning!

I just noticed that my calendar on iPhone has several failures compared to my outlook calendar! On May 13th it is the Ascension Day! My iPhone tells me that the Ascension Day is on Wednesday 12th!!!! There are a lot of similar faults such as the Norwegian national day on may 17th. My iPhone tells me that it is on may 16th!!!! I have tried the advanced function in iTunes to let outlook completely remove my iPhone calendar. I have synced the iPhone with a empty calendar and then synced back with the normal calendar. At last. My iPhone synchronizes wrong! Unbelievable! Can somebody help me? The weard thing is that this is just about some of may "whole day" happenings such as special days, birthdays etc. All other appointments is correct!

QuickTime Player 7.65.1780 Crashes During Startup (WinXP pro)

This error is occurring when I attempt to run QuickTime Player. The Control Panel QuickTime interface operates. I noticed the tray icon went missing after the iTunes/QuickTime software update via Apple Software Update.
iTunes still starts, plays music, etc. and will perform the iPhone Synchronization functions OK.
If you need any other info please let me know.

The problem wasn't with the QuickTime Installation as such. I had forgotten the Kaspersky Internet Security was upgraded from the V8.x version to V9.0.0.463(b.c) (or 2010 version) during the same time frame as the QuickTime Update (looking at the system logs reminded me). iTunes is a 'Trusted' Application in the 'Threats and Exclusions' settings, QuickTime was not. After placing all the exe's in the QuickTime Directory as 'Trusted Applications' in Kaspersky the QuickTime Icon is back in the tray and QuickTime Runs normally. Kaspersky is a good system protection system, but in this case it is protecting with no message about it's actions. Apple may want to make a recommendation to Kaspersky concerning iTunes/QuickTime since both have problems operating with Kaspersky on the system. iTunes would fail to sync with my iPhone until iTunes was 'listed' with Kaspersky.

Book disappeared from the store

Hi,
I bought a book on the Swiss iTunes Store: "Lean Six Sigma and Minitab". I am reading this book on all my Apple devices except my new iPhone. When I am trying to synchronize my iPhone with all my book in the library, this one is not able to be loaded on my iPhone.
I contacted the iTunes support, but they requested me to have access to my Apple account to solve the problem, because this book has been retired from the Swiss Store. I refused, I don't want to disclose my account password and was pretty surprised by this request, on top of that, the guy from the support was pretty unpleasant with me during the email exchanges we had. So I stopped this conversation and now I am trying with this community:
In summary:
- A book is no more on the store, so I am no more able to load it on any new devices.
- I have the book file on my computer, but I am not able to add it to the library and then have it copied during an iPhone synchronization.
Any advices?

PC user wanting to sync everything with .mac

I'm a PC user switching to mac. At this time I have a .mac account. I also own an iPhone.
Here it is- I am trying to:
1. Basically, I want to sync ALL of the information I have on Microsoft Outlook (contacts, calendar, etc.) with .mac (if it's possible). Of course I have had no trouble with getting email on the iPhone.
2. Is it possible in this early stage of switching from PC to mac - to just sync my iPhone with .mac from the internet - or will I have to go on using Outlook until I get my mac?
3. When I get a mac, how easy will it be to sync all of my info I have on Outlook with the mac?
And last...
4. Because my iPhone has synced with the PC - will it still be easy to switch that to mac?
I hope I was clear. I know it's a lot.

This will seem to be a complicated answer, but bear with me. For starters, .Mac Sync technology synchronizes only selected data types between one or more Macintosh desktop or portable computers, and the .Mac servers. It does not itself interact directly with any other applications or devices. For example, the contacts and events on your iPhone are synchronized using iTunes, interchanging data with the truth database on your Macintosh platform, and distributed elsewhere in your synchronization pool to other supported applications, devices and servers.
For a background on this technology, read this document. It does not reflect the inclusion of the iPhone which synchronizes contacts and events only—not tasks—bidirectionally, or the nature of the iPod touch, which synchronizes contacts bidirectionally but events as if it were an iPod. It is otherwise up to date in the information it offers.
To the extent that your iPhone synchronizes contacts and event in Outlook, you can easily incorporate them onto your Macintosh in to the Address Book and iCal. Tasks: not so much. And mail, not at all.
The answer to mail is IMAP: if your provider doesn't offer it, switch to a provider who does. Even the reasonably low-level mail service offered by AOL supports IMAP. Many major providers such as Comcast and MSN Live do not, though IMAP is an option of US users of Gmail, and soon for other users or Gmail worldwide.
You cannot synchronize your iPhone directly with the .Mac servers 'over the air' using a carrier network, Bluetooth or wireless ethernet. You cannot synchronize your iPhone at all except using the supported USB pathway to iTunes on your Macintosh of Windows OS computer. It's no easier to synchronize with a Macintosh because you have already synchronized to Outlook on your PC, but your contacts and calendars should transfer without issue.

Internet TV and Radio

Hallo,
my Iphone synchronizes everything (Contacts, Phonenumbers...) but not my yellow notices on my Iphone. What do i have to do?
Second question would be, why i have settings for TV... Can i watch TV with the Iphone??! And what should i do when i want to listen to Radio. I was on the Webpage of my favourite Radiostation, but i was not ables to open that device to listen to it. Is there any link to listen to Webradio on Iphone?

That setting is for the TV Out function. With the proper cables you can connect your iPhone to a TV and view photos/watch videos

Shortcut for display all, with piles ?

When visualizing your pictures, you can filter them so that you only see the top of the stack.
To do that, you need to go in the filter (cmd F) and tick the appropriate checkbox on the top, whose label in english should be "stack extract only" or something similar, then close the filter.
However, if you want to see again the other pics in the stack, you need to reopen the filter, "untick" it at the same place, close the filter.
Does anybody know of a keyboard shortcut to achieve that ?

1. So far I plan to use Stacks for both uses: "version stacking" and "alike stacking"; since i've begun to do that, I have however become more selective in the "alike stacking" grouping. I only stack pictures that have the same angle (not topic), in order to keep some sense to browsing through projects with stacks closed.
2. You're correct. With the precision that I want ultimately across my entire library each single pic, or each Pick of a stack, to be rated 1★-5★
Now in this discussion we are drifting away from the intial topic (a UI issue) to a more fundamental one, which is workflow.
So please let me rephrase the workflow issue, as I see it:
I am not a professional photographer. I take pictures for my pleasure. Some are of my kids, some are from some places I went to that I want to remember, and some try more or less to convey an artistic value.
Formerly, they used to be printed and stored. Now they are only digital.
By rating and documenting them, I believe I give the photographing process a meaning.
Every pic has a keyword (including names of my kids), a project named by the context, a date.
So basically :
1) the goal of archiving the growth of my kids is achieved
2) the goal of archiving the places I went to is achieved
Now, by rating them, I kind of feel that the "artistic" process is completed. The picture has been taken, and the output has been evaluated. In itself, this gives me a feeling of accomplishment. And I believe there is a collateral effect that I more or less conciously learn how to take better pictures, through a feedback loop. Indeed, rating it I reconsider the framing, the composition, the relevancy of settings for the shot (speed, aperture, zoom,...) also the editing opportunities to optimize the rendering. For example, I realize that some contre-jours cannot really be saved. Which will make me avoid some of them in the future. That rapidly in zooming you have shallow depth of field, ...
I knew all of that, but by actually checking the results, i begin to qualify more when it is acceptable , and when it is not.
Additionnaly, I intend to print some of my best pics, and I would not want to forget some hidden jewel somewhere.
As you see, the rationale for rating is objectionnable, but so far, I tends to fit my psychology.
After this long disgression, i can come back to the issue of workflow.
I have two processes to define.
- One is for taking care of all the pics in my library (the 10 000); I can tell you it is a bit painful, and I am trying to find some way to make it easier. With some pic editing put in it to make it more rewarding, we are talking weeks of labour, part-time. So far i feel the need to work project by project, in order to have the benefit or remembering each context, to have intermediate goals, and to avoid messing up something on a too big scale
- One is to define how I will handle future pictures. I am quite open to suggestion here. So far, I follow this pattern:
1) Import as raw+jpeg, as the apple raw conversion process is not perfect and I want to keep the "original" rendering
2) Delete missed ones
3) Stack
4) Document ( check dates, places, faces, keywords)
5) Rate, 2 or 3 iterative passes
6) Edit the best ones (chromatic abberration, red eyes, sharpness, contrast and shadows, reframing ...). Try alternative versions
7) Print some
8) (Planned) Sharing projects through iPad (need the next version to be fast enough) and AppleTV (need to update my Home Cinema, current quality is too low). Step 8 recommend that I do not stack too heavily in step 3.
9) Keep with me the best ones (automatic iPhone synchronization)
