IPhone : Syncing Contacts to iMac

Hey,
I will probably get the new iPhone soon and I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to SAFELY transfer all my current iPhone contacts to my iMac in order to re-transfer them to my new iPhone.
Thanks

Your contacts are part of the backup you make in itunes. So if you connect your phone for the first time and sync, you can restore it from your backup and have all your settings, contacts, calendars etc. transfered to your phone again.
See what's included in your backup and how to restore:http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766 and http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
And, as you probably use Time Machine for your backups, make sure you backup before you connect your phone, just in case..

  • How can I sync contacts to IMac, Icloud and Iphone

My Contacts on my Imac have only one option in settings to sync with my google contacts.  Before Icloud all my contacts and calendar synced just fine between my Imac and Iphone.  Now with Icloud I never seem to be able to sync contact to or from my Iphone.

iCloud requires Mac OS X 10.7.2 or later. Your signature states you are using 10.6.5 so that could be the reason.
You can still use iTunes to sync your contacts. You don't have to use iCloud.

  • Can't sync Contacts between iMac on 0S X 10.6.8 & iPhone 4s

I've never been able to sync Addressbook on my iMac and Contacts on my iPhone. After finding advisors at my local Genius Bar no better than me at solving this problem, I'm now trying to see if I can get any help on Mac Forum.
I have an iPhone 4s, and an iMac still on Os X 10.6.8 (because I was advised that with the 4GB RAM of my 2008 iMac, upgrading to the OS versions from Lion onwards would slow up my machine).
My iMac being on 10.6.8 excludes the use of iCloud for syncing my iPhone with my iMac.
So I continue to do it through iTunes. With the option "Automatically sync when this iPhone is connected" clicked, and under Info Sync Contactsalso clicked, I also have "All contacts" selected.
    But no such syncing happens.
What happens instead is syncing between Contacts on my iPhone and and apparently some version of an addressbook on my iMac which derives from the days when I used to back up my Nokia 6300 via Bluetooth, and which seems to have been enriched since with the further contacts I've been putting into my iPhone. This happened when I had an iPhone 4, and has been happening since I've had an iPhone 4s, in other words for years.
It not only means that I can't carry the contents of the Addressboook on my iMac with me on my iPhone. It also means that any new contact I put in my iPhone doesn't appear in the Addressbook of my iMac after I've done the syncing between my iPhone and my iMac; nor does any new contact I put in the Addressbook of my iMac appear after in Contacts on my iPhone after syncing with my iMac.
It's also been possible, either for me or for the tech tech adviser at my local Genius Bar who has tried, to find on my iMac the version of the addressbook, apparently derived from my Nokia 6300 days, with which my iPhone Contacts seems to be syncing.
I'll be really grateful for any and all help with this conundrum.

If you would like to use iCloud, you can try Yosemite. I have an early 2008 iMac running Yosemite and I've had no problems with it. I did upgrade my RAM to 6 GB, following the instructions from the link below.

One option is to create a new partition (~30- 50 GB), install the new OS, and ‘test drive’ it. If you like/don’t like it it, you can then remove the partition. Do a backup before you do anything. By doing this, if you don’t like it you won’t have to go though the revert process.
Check to make sure your applications are compatible.

  • How to sync iphone 5 contacts to iMac Mail?

How can I sync my iPhone 5 contacts to my iMac so I can use the contacts when writing emails from iMac Mail?
I have backed up my iPhone to the iMac however I cannot find a way to transfer the contents of my contacts from the phone to the iMac.
Please help??  I am having to type in the email address each and every time I write a new email from iMac Mail. Very frustrating.
I'm sure there's an easy way to do this.  I just cannot work it out.

    Hello Linda.Ven,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
If you'd like to have your contacts sync between your iPhone and iMac, then I highly recommend using iCloud.  It will seamlessly keep your contacts, and other data if you choose, up to date across all of your capable devices.  If you'd like to learn more about how to set up iCloud, please see the link below.

  • How to sync contacts on iMac to iPhone?

My contacts in my iPhone 4 randomly disappeared this weekend...grrr.  It was not backed up on iCloud and I can't find the last backup (besides one that was done tonight when I plugged my phone into my computer, after all the contacts disappeared).
Is there a way to sync the contacts on my iMac to my iPhone?  This is what I've tried and it hasn't worked:
In iTunes, under "info", I clicked on "Sync Contacts"
Under "Advanced" on the same page, I checked off "Contacts" and then "Replace information on this iPhone"
I hit Apply and it said it was syncing
    Nothing happened on my iPhone
Any assistance is GREATLY appreciated!  Thank you.

Turn contacts off and then on again in your iCloud settings on your iPhone. When it askes to you to keep or remove the current on on the phone.(if there are no contacts on the phone then say remove) and always ok the merge with iCloud. If the doesn't resolve the issue try deleting your iCloud account and then add it again.

  • Iphone5 wont sync contacts with imac

Can't sync contacts either connected or wireless.  Can someone point me in right direction?

Update.  If I delete a contact on the iphone it will also delete the contact on my imac. But if I delete a contact on the imac it does not delete it on the iphone.

  • IPhone sync'd with iMac at home, need to put something on it while on road

We are on a trip and my wife has her iPhone with her and her Air. She keeps the iPhone sync'd with her iMac at home, but has purchased an audiobook from the store and needs to move it to the phone. Right now, we are sort of stymied because when we plug the iPhone into the air, it tells us it is sync'd with the other machine.
How do we get that book from the air to the iPhone? If I could have gotten to her fast enough, I would have had her buy it on the phone, but she has already purchased it, and it's sitting on the air.

    No can do.
In regards to iTunes content, an iPhone can be synced with an iTunes library on a single computer, and photos can be transferred from a single computer only. The iPhone does not support disk mode as is supported with an iPod.

  • Iphone syncs contacts from PC

At the ATT web site their info states the new Iphone will sync your contacts from your PC. I have Palm Desktop and my contacts are in Palm Desktop. Would some of you please comment. Thanks

On a Mac, the iPhone syncs with Apple's Address Book application for contact information, and with iCal for calendar events. You can also sync with Entourage 2004 or 2008, but it is Entourage that is being synced with Apple's Address Book and with iCal - the iPhone does not sync directly with Entourage on a Mac.
That being said, the iPhone does not support syncing with Palm Desktop, but you can sync Palm Desktop with the Address Book and with iCal on your Mac.
You can do this with the iSync application on your Mac, where you can enable Palm OS syncing.

  • How to replace iphone 5s contacts with imac (10.6.8) contacts

need to totally replace contacts in the iPhone 5s with the contacts in Apple Mail Address Book on an iMac running OS 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) with latest version of iTunes.  I know there must be a way to do this, but have been unable to figure it out so far.  This is my first smartphone and it's only 3 weeks old.  IT person at work set my email up, but I want the contacts to be the ones from my home computer.  A merge or sync would produce the wrong desired results, so I need to completely replace the iPhone contacts.

Correct.  To use an iPhone5 with iTunes you must use iTunes 10.7.  To use iTunes 10.7 you absolutely must be running at least OSX 10.6.8.
We use an iPhone without iTunes but the main thing we do not do is sync.  We do not have an music or movies on the phone, though you could as long as you did all the interfacing with iCloud.  We back up our modest (<5GB) collection of things to iCloud.  You can use Image capture or iPhoto to transfer photos and movies you take with the phone to a computer.

  • Sync contacts with imac

    Hi
Hope some can help. Just received my new imac and transferred my itunes folder from my old windows PC.
I forgot to keep the backup file before I formatted my old PC before selling.
I dont want to attach my iphone due to fear of losing my contacts.
Is there a way to connect the iphone to itunes without losing my contacts? Not worried about apps, music etc as these are in my itunes folder

    Do the following:
Launch isync from the applications folder & under preferences reset sync history. Reboot your computer when finished.
Put one contact in address book, it can be fake, doesn't matter. Same with ical.
Disable auto sync when an ipod/iphone is connected under preferences in itunes.
Connect your phone, itunes running. DO NOT SYNC.
Right click in the device pane & select Backup.
Right click again & select reset warnings.
Go up to Store>Authorize this computer.
Go up to file Transfer Purchases.
Once finished, right click again & select restore from backup, select the backup you made when we started.
This needs to be followed by a sync to put your itunes content back on your phone.
You'll get a popup regarding your contacts, to merge or replace. Select merge.
    Good job backing up itunes!

  • Multiple iPhones synced to one iMac?

Is it possible to sync 3 different iPhones to Address Book and/or iCal on the same computer AND allow each iPhone to get its own Contacts. Example: I had the first iPhone on our computer. Son and wife got them recently. Apps and music not a problem. We want wife to be able to sync HER contacts, which are not MINE.

Sure. Create separate Groups in Address Books and separate Calendars in iCal. Check the appropriate boxes in iTunes on the Info tab when you sync. My wife and I each have our own sets, and an 'ours' set of contacts as well. iTunes manages the devices separately, you can also choose to have different apps, different playlists, etc., on each device.

  • IPhone sync contact book location auto switching between users

On a PC. Using iTunes 7.4.1. One user account on computer, two users sharing, each with own iPhone. I sync my contacts with windows address book. other user with yahoo account. groovy. But, when I log out and the other user plugs in, iTunes has decided to auto-switch settings so new user syncs via windows address book instead of yahoo settings. Second user's music playlist sync stays intact, as does their custom photo folder. It just seems to think we should share our contacts.
Very communist in basic philosophy, if you ask me. Has anyone ever heard of this sloppy glitch and if there is some duct tape fix for it? Already ruining my iPhone experience.
    Thanks!

Who's threadjacking? I was just trying to relate that there are other issues with the current setup, and that it sounds like this is not an ActiveSync issue. How is ActiveSync even involved in the OP statement? He's on direct Exchange Server connection.... It sounds like the OP didn't have an issue before going to 5.x, and now does, and he isn't the only one. You people on this forum are getting mean and knowitally....I haven't been on here much in quite a while, and I come back to look around and try and help because of the recent issues I've seen, and you all talk down your noses at me.....Not very professional if you ask me...OP, if local syncing through iTunes is a good workaround for you, I'd do that, but I would also go to the apple feedback page and submit something on this issue. I submitted one for my issue all ready....Threadjacking....ha. You folks need to take a chill pill and play nice... We're all here to help each other out....That's all I was trying to do. Perhaps I can get a bit wordy  sometimes...but really..

  • HT1386 iphone sync- contacts deleted

I just synced and updated my Iphone on ITunes and I see that I now have all of my wife's Iphone contacts, schedules, etc on mine.  In addition I've lost most of my contacts-  is there anyway to sync just my phone ??
Is there anyway I can get my old contacts back on my phone???
I'm kind of new to this and the Icloud, so please excuse if this is a dumb question.
    thanks

If running Mavericks, local syncing for contacts/calendars has been removed. You use iCloud or a similar OTA syncing service.
