IPhone syncing unchecked playlists

This has been posted numerous times, but the discussions are all archived. Plus, I think I have figured out what is causing this situation.
I have discovered that the issue with unchecked playlists syncing on the iPhone is caused by the weird fact that iPhone sync will add any/all playlist the items you have synced appear in.
In other words, if you have a song/video in "Smart Playlist A" as well as in "Smart Playlist B" and only set "Smart Playlist B" to sync, because the item is in both playlists, both will show up on your iPhone.
In yet other words, if you sync an item to the iPhone, any playlist that item appears in—even if that playlist is unchecked in the "Sync selected playlists only" section—will show up on your iPhone.
This is idiotic. I am hoping someone knows of a way around this.
I discovered it by adding some home videos to my iPhone, and after doing so a bunch of odd playlists showed up on the phone. They only contained the videos. By unchecking the video sync checkbox and running another sync, those extra playlists disappeared. I deduced what was happening after reading some archived posts on the discussion here.
Anyone know why this is happening? Or can people confirm that this is happening to others, and not just me? If someone can replicate my steps above and have the iPhone not sync those unchecked playlists, I would like to know about it.

I realize this is an old post, but in case you haven't solved this there is a workaround -- for all music-only smart playlists, add the criteria "Kind Does Not Contain Video" (use the "Kind" criteria, not "Video Kind"). You can still have smart playlists for your videos, and obviously you would leave that criteria out. Only the music smart playlists need this, and it seems to affect all iPods going back several iTunes revisions.

  • IPhone synching unchecked playlists

I just updated my iPhone and then did a synch and for some reason it took an entire unchecked playlist of several gigabytes from iTunes to my iPhone, which I never intended to happen. The playlist didn't show up but all the tracks did. There are 271 of them. What did I do wrong here or is there a flaw in the new firmware? And how can I get rid of these tracks on my iPhone? Thanks.

Connect your iphone to the computer and open itunes.
When the iphone shows up on the left side under devices, click on the name of the iphone if it is not highlighted.
To the right you will see the summary page with some tabs at the top.
Click on the music tab and set to sync either entire library or selected playlists.
Once you have checked the boxes you want, click apply at the bottom right of itunes.
If this does not work, here are a couple of articles from the apple support website that might help out.

  • IPhone sync of playlists from MacBook Pro

iPhone 5S was syncing with Computer just fine until last update. Now, don't know how to edit playlists to be synced with IPhone. Also some playlists do not work, a red circle with square to the right of song titles and unable to play. I think the last sync tried to download all music and it was too much, but I can't seem to edit. Thanks for any help!

Doubtful that Leopard will provide for the syncing of email messages between your computer and the iPhone. Leopard Mail may provide for the syncing of Notes and To Do's between the Mail application and the iPhone since Leopard Mail will incorporate Notes and To Do's.
If you don't mind me asking, why don't you have internet access as home - no high speed access available or too expensive? A dial-up connection would be better than nothing and would provide for the automatic syncing of an IMAP account's server stored mailboxes and messages between your computer and the iPhone.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Maybe a long shot, but WD is not known for the quality of some of their enclosures, although I do like the drives themselves. It may be worth mounting this drive in a different enclosure, something like one of OWC's FireWire enclosures with the highly reliable Oxford chip sets. I wouldn't be inclined to trust a WD enclosure, especially if it already seemed to be acting in a flakey manner.
Here's an example of what I mean:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/MEP924FW8E2O/
I have 3 of these and I really like them.
From what I understand, if the drive spins up, it is often possible to recover data from it. To be absolutely certain to destroy the data, you just about have to take a hammer to the disk. Hopefully, there will be a way to get your data back.
    Good luck!

  • I cannot sync new playlists from iTunes PC to my iPhone

I have read through many Apple support topics and how-tos, I have tried everything I can to get iTunes to copy over/ sync new playlists from my PC. Doesn't matter if I select manual choosing of music, or select individual playlists, update my preferences, or drag the playlists over to the iPhone... every single time I try syncing the result is that those new playlists NEVER APPEAR on my iphone.  I do usb syncing, wifi syncing... nothing will work.
This is incredibly frustrating!!   Now I understand why so many of my friends are just giving up on Apple products.
Why does such a SIMPLE process not work???

Apples update to iPhoto 11 (9.4.1) seems to have corrected the probem! I can selectively sync photo albums and events again. If anyone else is having the problem update to 9.4.1 !

  • Am I the only one whith an iTunes (11.1.3 on Windows 7) that does not sync my playlist on my both my iPhone 4G and iPdos classic 5G

I have multiple Playlists organized by folders (multiple folders but all at 1 level, no folders within folders) and I trying to unload some (cristmast music) and uploading other playlists instead.
From iTunes view everything seems fine, as usual, but the update doesn't show on my iPod App. On my iPhone I'm seeing my Christmist playlists and not the ones that iTunes show as "checked and loaded" in iTunes when reconnecting my iPhone to my PC's USB port. Samething happens with my old iPod Classic. ...BUT!
But if I edit a playlist from my iPhone, after sync, I can see that change of that playlist in iTunes on my PC!? So the download from iPhone works but the upload from iTunes to iPhone does NOT work.
    My Hardware:
    - Windows 7 on a Dell Laptop
    - iOS 7 on iPhone 4G (32 gb)
    - iPod Classic 5G (32 gb)
I consider my self a power-user, using iTunes since 2002 and I just can't find a solution. I've been able to sync my playlist with both devices for the last time on December 15th 2013 but I think that was before updating to version 11.1.3.
Any body knows about a problem synchronizing (updating)  playlist on devices running iOS 7? This seems like a major bug to me since any of my devices can't sync completly.

After going by elimination to isolate if the problem was from (1) iTunes app, (2) my computer or (3) my old iPhone 4G, I figured out what my problem was.
    1) First I deleted & reinstalled iTunes on my Windows PC without succes, my playlist did not changed on my iPhone.
    2) I tested a successful #sync from the iMac at work.
So my conclusion is: The hard drive on my Windows PC is full and that is affecting iTunes SYNC functionalities.
So I'll do a back-up then run a "Clean Install" of my Windows OS, hoping that it will fix my SYNC problems.

  • How do I sync iTunes playlists on my iPhone with iTunes Match?

My experience with iTunes Match so far has been mixed.  On one hand, the face of iTunes on one computer to the next is virtually identical, and the streming over the wi-fi from the laptop at work to my home computer is perfect.  At the same time, iTunes Match on my iPhone seems terrible.  Playlists don't sync and are deleted from my iPhone.  Songs that are already on my phone, for some reason, still make my phone spin and drain my battery life.  Even after disabling the "allow cellular data over 3G" message, or whatever it is, is turned off, still the phone keeps spinning and draining battery life.  So, in one sense, iTunes Match is nice because I can access my music from multiple computers, but in another, the mobile connection - which should be awesome and seemless - is terrible.  Is there a way, aside from turning iTunes Match off, syncing manually to iTunes, and loading my playlists like the old way (which isn't a perfect science now, either)...Basically, how can I sync my playlists from iTunes on my computer to iTunes on my iPhone using iTunes Match?

With iTunes Match enabled on an iOS device direct syncing with iTunes via USB or Wi Fi is disabled. To sync in the traditional way iTM must be disabled on the iOS device. At this time is it either/or.

  • HT1386 Problems syncing music playlists on iPhone 6

I can't sync music playlists on my new iPhone 6. Only a portion of files get transferred and each sync just seems to scramble the results. All of these playlists sync on old and new iPods and my iPad mini. I don't use iCloud to store music; I've got too many files for that system. I sync directly with my Mac. Suggestions?

    hi
i was just creating a playlist when the Done button disappeared. i then tried to make it happen again and i did:
    -play a song
    -then make a new playlist
-select some songs for the playlist
-wait for the song to change and when it does select some songs to add from the artist/album section
-the song change turns the "Done" button to "now playing"
-now you've gotta quit the app because there is not way to finish adding to playlist or change the song you're listening to D:
here are photos before and after the song changes, note the text at the top right of the screen:
After the button changes there is no way of getting the 'done' button back so you have to quit the app
i am also on an iPhone 6

iPod touches or any iDevices from Apple sync only to one computer. If you sync to a different computer, all your music will be replace with the music from the new computer's iTunes. If the music were purchased from iTunes, you can re-download them again otherwise the music on iPod touch will be deleted. Do you have iTunes backup?

  • My ipod nano (1st generation) sync unchecked smart playlist!!

    Hi,
I have created smart playlist on I-tunes. I then unckecked songs within each playlist I did not want to sync with my i-pod. I also set the i-pod only sync checked songs.
My questions is why does it sync the playlist name if I did not check any songs under that playlist?
This means that when I use my i-pod, i can see the playlist name, so I think that there are songs within the playlist, but of course the playlist is empty. It would be clearer if the playlist name was not there!!
    Is this normal?
    Thanks for your help

The playlit show up because you selecte dto sync tghat playlist (even if nothing is on it).
Instead of checking/unchecking songs (too cumbersomne for me), just create playlists and sync those.
Add/delete from those playlist to change what's on the iPod.

  • Cannot sync new playlist to iphone with icloud

cannot sync new playlist to iphone from PC as it tells me new playlist not in icloud.  how do I get new playlist into the cloud?

    Hey dr. c bruce,
Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. It sounds like the music on your device did not originate from this library, is the iPhone 5 currently synced with another iTunes Library? iPhones can only be synced with one library:
Manage content manually on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201593
iPhone can only add music or video from a single iTunes Library.
    Thanks,

    Hello Smithfiledhokie,
Thank you for contacting Apple Support Communities.
Is the cloud you are seeing on your phone one of these icons?
Cloud with an arrow pointing down
The song is stored in iCloud and available to be downloaded to your computer.
    Cloud with a diagonal slash
The song isn’t eligible to be uploaded to your iCloud library. For example, the song file might be larger than 200 MB, or encoded at 96 Kbps or less.
Two clouds with a diagonal slash
Your iTunes library contains duplicate versions of this song, and only the other version was uploaded to your iCloud library.
    Cloud with dotted outline
The song is being matched, but the process hasn’t been completed yet.
