Iphone syncs on G5 w/itunes 8 but NOT on Macbook w/Itunes 9.2

Sorry if this is answered somewhere else. I am able to sync my iphone on my G5 with Itunes 8 but cannot do it on my Macbook pro with Itunes 9.2. Each Mac is running OSX10.5.8. I think my laptop may be confusing my new iphone with an old one that no longer exists?
Also, I successfully downloaded applications on Iphone through the G5(Itunes 8) but when I plug the Iphone into the macbook it shows me the applications I tried to unsuccesfully download via the macbook a few days ago. It does not see any of the apps or anything else that I just downloaded to the phone via the G5(itunes8). It also will not let me sync mail and tells me I have to erase and re-setup mail accounts on my iphone. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you

In regards to iTunes content, an iPhone can be synced or manually managed with an iTunes library on a single computer only, and photos can be transferred from a single computer only. b
When transferring iTunes content and photos from another computer, all iTunes content and photos transferred from a different computer will be erased from the iPhone first.
You can sync contacts, calendar events, and Safari bookmarks with the supported applications on multiple computers, but you can transfer iTunes content from an iTunes library on a single computer only.
In regards to iTunes content, you need to decide which computer you want to transfer iTunes content from and stick to it.

No. If you connect his phone to your iTunes account/computer, ALL iTunes content on his phone will be erased. By design, iPhone syncs or manually manages iTunes content with ONE computer at a time.

I simply ran iTunes, went to my iPad settings, Infos, then Synchronised mail accounts.
Same thing after on the iPhone, and voila!
Notes on the web interface of iCloud, in the Notes application on the iMac and on my iPhone and iPad are synchronised.

If you import the audiobook as an audiobook to your iTunes Library, it will be listed in the Books section of your Library. You may need to turn on Books in order to see them. If you cannot see the File/Edit... etc. menu, use CTRL B on your keyboard to make that menu bar appear. Then go to Edit/Preferences>Books and put a tick in the box.
But, if the imported audiobook shows up in the Music section of your iTunes Library, highglight the files (in iTunes) and select File/Get Info/Options/Media Kind>Audiobook. These files will now transfer to the Books section of iTunes.
Once on an iPod Classic, look under the Audiobooks menu. Again, you may need to change the settings in the Settings menus, in order to have the Audiobooks option shown on the Main Menu and/or the Music Menu.

Update: It seems as though the phone will charge if I plug it in and then turn it off. It will not charge while the phone is on. Also iTunes will not recognize it, so I can't sync or anything. I read somewhere that it could be a fuse somewhere?? Or maybe the dock connector. Where is the best place to get this repaired?

Are you properly selecting the content to sync in iTunes? I mean you have all of the headings - Sync Music, Sync Movies, etc. checked to sync and all of the content as well?
Is the iPad signed into the same iTunes account as your PC? You are using the same Apple ID and iTunes account on both devices. On the iPad go to Settings>Store>Apple ID - is that the same ID that your iTunes library is using?
Lastly, did you ever transfer the purchases from your iPad to the PC? Is all of the content that you have on the iPad in your iTunes library?
I can't think of any other reasons why the iTunes on the PC as seeing this as a new iPad.

You should be able to sync both to the same iTunes - I sync my iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch to the same computer. With the iPad connected and selected on the left-hand side of your computer's iTunes, you can use the tabs on the right-hand side to select which of your iTunes content to sync to it, so you can control which apps, photos, music etc are synced to it, and (via the Info tab) from which email account your contacts are synced from. Your computer's iTunes should remember your syncing preferences for each device.

I use Time Machine with an external HD. That seems to do what I need. Others also recommend an second EHD with a bootable clone of your boot drive and use a 3rd party app like Carbon Copy Cloner, SuperDuper, Synk Pro, etc. to keep the clone up to date.
In addition to Time Machine I have a hard drive that I keep key files backed up with Synk Pro which does incremental backups, i.e. copying only those new or modified files. For other candidates for the cloning and backup apps to go MacUpdate.com and search for "file backup" and "clone".

Because the iPad requires a lot more power to charge than your iPhone, and typically car and computer USB ports simply don't proivide that much.
Its the same reason your iPhone comes with a 5Watt charger (and even then the iPhone only uses part of that) while the iPads come with the 10 or 12 watt charger.
They just need more power.

Yes. get a computer with iTune 10.5 and:
- Transfer iTunes purchases to the computer:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
- Transfer other stuff using a third-party program like one of those discussed here. Most are good for music. It is harder to find one for other stuff like synced photos.
Copy music from Ipod to new computer...: Apple Support Communities
- Connect the iPod to the computer and make a backup by right-clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and selecting Back Up
- Restore the iPod from backup and sync as neccessary.
