IPhone transfer from mac to mac

I recently bought a new MBP for college to replace my Mid-2007 MB. I used this as an opportunity to reorganize all of my media, vs directly copying my iTunes folder.
I'm wondering if there's a way to copy my iPhone's profile to my new MBP to avoid having to erase & resync the phone. I also have an iPad 2 and a 2nd gen iTouch with which I would like to do the same. I don't have direct access to the old MB anymore, but I do have a full backup (via rsync).
Thanks!

Do you know which files inside the iTunes folder deal with devices? If possible, I'd only transfer those files, since I've already created a new library which is fairly drastically different than my old.
However, if it's an all or nothing scenario, maybe I could create a second library (the original), and then just swap the database file.

  • Transferring iPhone backup from PC to Mac - will this work?

    Hi,
I recently purchased a MacBook Pro and am almost done with transferring everything from my PC to my Mac after a long full day and a half of backing up, reformatting external hard drives etc.
I have read to transfer an iPhone backup from PC to Mac you need to do the following:
If you are a Windows user, open the Start menu, click on "Computer" and then navigate to the "C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup" directory.
    And then:
Click on the "Finder" icon and navigate to the "Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup" folder on the Mac.
I did the first step just fine, but when I tried to find the folder on the Mac by both manual navigation and then a spotlight search, it wasn't found, so I went into the Library/Application Support and then created a new folder with the name MobileSync and a subfolder 'Backup' within that. Will this work?
If not, could someone please help me on how to get my iPhone backup onto the Mac.
    Thankyou!

  • How to transfer iTunes Library/iPhone data from PC to Mac?

    Hi,
I have just started using my Mac Mini. This is my first mac.
I need to copy my iTunes Library from my PC to Mac.
I searched for a solution and most of them advise to simply copy the iTunes folder to my Mac.
The problem is I am not sure if this approach will preserve my album ratings/playlist/playcounts/album art.
Most important, I wonder if this will transfer my iPhone data as well or not.
My contacts and stuff on iPhone are crucial to me. I need to be able to plug in my iPhone to my Mac and not be worried about losing my previous data.
    Any suggestions?
I am running leopard and am on wifi. I can transfer files over wifi.

The Apple store will do this for you.
You can call Apple Support and they will walk you through it.
You can type "move itunes library from pc to mac" into the google search bar.

  • Transferring the iphone 3G from PC to Mac?

I have been using my Iphone 3G on the PC running Vista for the past few months and I have recently got myself the MBP17. I would like to use the iphone with the MBP exclusively so how do I do this please?
I basically need to be able to use my iphone on the mac just like how I am using it on the PC, without losing any settings, music, videos, apps, etc.
Is there any online guide that I can follow to transfer the iphone from my PC to the MBP? On the PC currently, I have music and videos that I have ripped from my own CDs and also those that I purchased from the itunes store. I also have apps that I purchased from the app store.
Any help would be appreciated, thank you

You need to transfer your iTunes library from your PC to your Mac.
Your iTunes library on your PC is in an iTunes named folder and the default location is in your My Music folder located in your My Documents folder.
The default location for the iTunes named folder on a Mac is Home > Music > iTunes. If there is an existing iTunes named folder in your Music folder, transferring the iTunes named folder from your PC will replace the existing iTunes named folder on your Mac.

You need to authorize your Mac with your iTunes account with iTunes. Be sure to have iTunes quit on your Mac before transferring the iTunes named folder from your PC.
In regards to iTunes content, an iPhone can be synced with an iTunes library on a single computer only. When syncing an iPhone with an iTunes library on a different computer, all iTunes content on the iPhone that was transferred from another computer will be erased first - even when transferring the same iTunes library from another computer. This also applies to photos that were transferred to your iPhone via the iTunes sync process from another computer. What is erased first will apply to iTunes content and photos transferred from your PC only - no other data on your iPhone will be erased.
Before syncing contact info with the Address Book and calendar events with iCal on your Mac, enter one contact in the Address Book and one calendar event in iCal on your Mac. Make these up if needed, which can be deleted later. This will provide a merge prompt when syncing contact info with the Address Book and calendar events with iCal on your Mac, which you want to select.

  • I used Migration Assistant to transfer from MBP to Mac Mini. Documents cannot be "seen" or "found". Stumped!

I used Migration Assistant to transfer from MBP (Leopard OSX 10.6.8) to Mac Mini (Lion OSX 10.7). Documents cannot be "seen" or "found". Ditto Music , movies, and pictures.Stumped!

System Preferences/Users & Groups shows you the various user accounts you have.
Look at your hard drive in the Finder sidebar. You should see Applications, Library, System, and Users. If you look in Users you will see a Shared folder. From the user Migration Assistant created, find the iTunes folder and drag it to Shared. Log out and log in using your normal user account, go to the same place and copy it to Music in your normal user account. Another option is to leave it in shared so any user can access it. You will have to tell iTunes where to find the music by going to iTunes/Preferences/Advanced.

Is Apple compatible with Microsoft Office?
Any computer is compatible as long as it can read and write Office files. But for perfect (or at least near perfect) compatibility, you would want to purchase Office 2011 for Mac.
How can I transport from Windows to Mac?
You can't directly transport any installation of Windows. All PC's come with a machine specific version of Windows intended for that PC. They don't have all of the hardware drivers the retail disks cover.
If you want Windows on your Mac, you would first purchase a full version copy (NOT an upgrade disk) of Windows 7 or 8. Those are the only supported versions on newer Macs. You install it through the supplied Boot Camp utility that comes with the Mac to create a new partition for Windows, and then install the retail copy of Windows you purchased.
The reason only these versions of Windows are supported is the same basic reason as a machine specific version of Windows for a PC. Apple only includes the necessary Mac hardware drivers for Win 7 or 8 on new Macs.
Once Windows is installed, you could then install the version of Office for Windows you already own. The nuisance of a Boot Camp partition is that you have to physically boot to either Windows or OS X, so you can only use the apps of the OS you're in at the time. To use both at once, you'd have to use virtual machine software (Parallels, VMware, VirtualBox) and then install Windows within that. Then you'd be able to run Windows inside of OS X and have access to both at the same time.

  • IPod transfer from PC to MAC

I just got a mac and am new to this whole thing, so bare with me. I have had my iPod synced to my PC for about a year now and want to transfer my iTunes library to my MAC, is this possible, if so How?

Do you have a way to transfer from iPod to iTunes
Problem - The majority of my music was in the itunes library on my PC. That computer crashed and all data was lost. My only backup of my music is the music on my iPod.
How do I take the music that is on my iPod and transfer it to the itunes library on my Mac. If I hit sync then my iPod will be wiped clean and it will filled with the iTunes library on my Mac (which is less then what is currently on my iPod)
    Thanks

  • Ipod music transfer from PC to Mac?

    Hello,
I recently reformatted my ipod shuffle to PC so as to use as a portable drive. On my PC I have music that I do not have on my Mac. Itunes deleted the music from mac and replaced with music from PC. when I plugged the ipod back into the Mac, it asked some weird question about which library to use (yes or no options), one answer(no?)did nothing and no longer recognized the ipod until an unplug and reconnect. the other answer(yes?)replaced the music library with the macintosh's original playlist.
So, is it possible to transfer music from a PC to mac? Is there some sort of copyright issue I'm missing here? If I replace the ipod music from the PC itunes library again, how can I transfer that music to the Mac?
Mac Mini 1.42   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   imac-dv G3, mac3500, mac7500, apple IIe, ipod nano, ipod shuffle, old PC box

I found this which I think answers the question:
Can I take a friend's iPod shuffle and browse or play its content on my machine (like I can with other iPods)?
No, there is no manual mode that allows you to view or play the content from a friend's iPod shuffle on your computer. This also means that you cannot load music from multiple computers or iTunes libraries onto iPod shuffle like you can with other iPods.
Can I transfer data to iPod shuffle from multiple computers when in disk mode?
Yes. If you put iPod shuffle in disk mode, you can transfer data from multiple computers from the Finder (Mac) or Explorer (Windows). You can only load music from one computer, using iTunes.
Can I use iPod shuffle with both a Macintosh and a Windows computer?
Yes. When you place iPod shuffle in disk mode, you can use it to transfer data between multiple computers, running either operating system.
Thanks anyway, seems like a strange thing not to be able to do.

  • Excel files are locked since transfer from pc to mac

I just transferred my excel files from pc to mac and now i can't open them, it says they are "locked for editing" by user (i did not lock them) i can only open as read only.  Is there a fix for this problem? Anyone else had this problem?

    Where are these files saved??
    Maybe this will help...
    I found this post on a different web site - http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/mac/forum/macoffice2011-macexcel/office-files -locked-for-editing-in-mixed/d838b0d7-6b26-4206-b310-029c73cf0ba6.
This problem is caused by a temporary file that was not deleted after a previous edit session was completed. The file is hidden and not normally visible through the Finder. The easiest way to view hidden files is to install the hidden files dashboard widget which is available here:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/developer/hiddenfiles_matthansen.html.
Use the widget to show hidden files then use Finder to open the folder that contains the spreadsheet you wish to edit. If your spreadsheet is named abc.xlsx, you will also see a file named ~$abc.xlsx. Delete the file that begins with ~$ and you will be good to go.

  • Slow file transfer from pc to mac

I've got two windows xp home pcs and two macs (a mac mini and an ibook). The windows PCs are connected to the wired network and both macs are wireless.
When I try to initiate a file transfer on either pc to either mac, the file transfer is really slow (slower than I think it should be). It's very annoying.
Does anyone have any idea what causes this and how to fix it? Thanks.

I've got some more information: when Windows NT initiates a file transfer to the mac using windows file sharing, the transfer speed is fast. It's XP that has the problem. Is this a windows XP problem or a Mac OS X problem? Last time I checked, the macs were both able to communicate with each other just fine.
Ok, here's the transfer speeds approx: a 100mb file is normally quickly transferred in about a minute. When the windows xp machine tries to send to the mac, the transfer will take many times longer to complete.
Can anyone help with this problem? Anyone at all? Please? I'm annoyed about this issue.
So, what's the fix? Please. Thanks.
