IPhone tries to send iMessage to android

I don't own iPhones but my parents does( 5S with iOS7). I have a HTC one. We got these new phones in OCT and this the first time any of us owned smartphones. In the process of switching carriers, I got a new number.
After the upgrade however, I could not get any text from my parents. They will call and ask why I am not responding but I never got any of them. When they send me a text message, the phone says it's an iMessage which is for iOS device only. This is actually happening for my friends with iPhones as well.
We called carrier support and they said the problem is in iOS7 the "send as sms" option in messaging. is disabled by default. They suggested a few workarounds:
1. Enable 'send as SMS" and wait till the message fails and iphone will resend it.
2. Long press and select "send as SMS text".
Without these 2 workaround, I will still get nothing.
My question is, why does iPhone tries to send my android iMessage in the first place? The same thing doesn't seem to be happening to my friends' android phones. These workaround solves the problem between my parents iphone to me but I cannot tell everyone I text "hey turn Send as SMS option", especially if I missed their message in the first place.
What should I do? Does anyone here have a similar problem?
TIA.

  • Iphone trying to send iMessages to non iphone users - HELP!

My friend just switched from Verizon to Sprint. He has NEVER had an iphone. He currently has some type of galaxy or android. As of last night all of my texts to him are being sent as iMessages (which he obviously doesn't receive). He's had the phone for two weeks and up until yesterday we were able to text via SMS with no issues. I still get his texts - he gets nothing from me and it only shows on my phone as going through as an iMessage. I've tried deleting his contact and adding it again. It still shows up blue in my contacts as if it's an iphone (which it obviously is not). I know I can turn off my iMessage on my phone but I like using it because the majority of my friends and family have iPhones. Is there any way to fix this??

I am having the same issue in the US.
I had a 3GS and switched to an Android based phone.  My wife now has a 4s and all messages from her were going to my old iPhone instead of my new phone.  My old phone does not have service, but still works well on wifi.  My messages would send fine, and I could send and receive from non-iPhone users without issue.  I then tried sending to an iPhone 4, and once again got an iMessage back on my old phone from that person.
    Fix:
I pulled the SIM card from my new phone, had the iPhone users delete and re-enter contact info for me.  The first time they send a message to me it goes out as an iMessage, but then re-sends about 5 minutes later as a regular text.  Once the thread has started, it goes back and forth without issue.  If they delete the thread off their iPhones, the process starts over again and the first one takes about 5 minutes to resend as a regular text.
I know iPhones with iOS 5 will always send as an iMessage first if that is enabled (and why wouldn't it, it's a great feature) but it needs to go to Apple's servers first, then resent as a non-iMessage.
I am not sure if others are experiencing delays in first run text messages to others and think the delay is teh network, when it may the iMessage function.  I would like to see some feedback from others if they are seeing delays?

  • IPhone trying to send iMessage to non iPhone.

My friend had an iPhone 4 with iOS5 and has recently switched to a different phone as his iPhone died on him.
My iPhone is still attempting to send him iMessages and obviously they are getting lost in the ether...
I'm not going to switch off iMessaging each time I want to message him, that's just ridiculous.
Has anyone else had this issue?
    How can this be resolved?

  • My friend has an iphone with no data plan, how do i send sms messages without my own iphone trying to send an imessage

i have an iphone5 with a data plan, my friend has an iphone5 with no data plan,
how do i send sms messages to him without my own iphone trying to send an imessage
im sure we can tap on the message and select "send as text or sms"
but is there a setting that says 'if recipient has no data, then send as text' - so its more automated
almost like the setting that says 'if i have no data then send sms'.

I have an iPhone 5s with a data plan but I have iMessage turned off. Everyone I know with an iPhone has no problem sending me texts and they automatically go out as sms. If your friend doesn't want others to send messages via iMessage even when he has wi-fi access he can turn iMessage off in Settings > Messages.  If that doesn't resolve the issue see the quote below from (ignore the non-Apple phone references): Can’t receive text messages on a non-Apple phone
If you don't have access to your iPhone, or if you can't deactivate iMessage from your iPhone, please contact Apple Support. Support for this issue is free.

I had a contact added mistakenly as an iphone contact now it tries to send imessages to that contact instead of a regular text, any help?

Something doesn't make any sense here, because iMessage ONLY works between you and anyone using an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 5, you couldn't iMessage someone that DIDN'T meet those requirements, if you wanted to. Are you positive this contact does not meet the requirements to iMessage?

  • All of a sudden this morning my iphone will not send imessages from my phone number but only from my email address. When I go to the settings for my imessages to choose where they are coming from my phone number is greyed out....Is there a way to fix this

All of a sudden this morning my iphone will not send imessages from my phone....

    Hi Chas869,
Hmm, that is strange that your phone number is greyed out. There are a few things that we can try. First would be to turn iMessages off, then back on. See if you are able to select your phone number. Then if that doesn't work, turn iMessages back off, then reset the network settings....settings>general>reset>reset network settings, this will reboot the phone. Don't worry, it won't delete anything from the phone, it simulates a battery pull. Once the device comes back on, then turn iMessages back on. Keep us posted if that works!

  • IPhone won't send iMessage (even when signed on Wi-FI or 3G)

My iPhone won't send iMessages even when I try to connect through Wi-Fi or 3G. At first I thought it was my Wi-Fi but it wasn't since I can connect to programs such as Safari and Instagram. I have also reset my network settings. Can someone help me or have any idea how I can fix this?
    Thank you!

    Phone is not jailbroken.
    Got it re: passcode lock.
If I do a system restore, but I restore as a new phone, will my crucial phone functionality remain intact (phone number, ability to make calls, etc.)? And when it's restored, do I then just do a sync to have all my data brought back into the device?
Sync settings for calendar and contacts are enabled properly, and are the same as they have been for years. I'm not sure it's the calendar or contact data that is corrupted (although anything is possible) because the sync problems started happening exactly when the iMessage problems started happening.
Please advise on the system restore (not from backup) and I will post my results. Just wanna make sure I'm not doing anything irreparable.
    Thanks...DG

  • Friend left iPhone for Android. My iPhone insists on sending iMessage instead of text. Help

So my friend that I text with occassionaly has left Apple for Android (i know right?). Anyway, we had a nice little iMessage session going but now that she has continued texting me from her android, my iPhone insists on replying via iMessage and will not switch to text. I've deleted the thread, deleted her as a contact, restarted my phone, typed in just her number for the text, but alas, it still tries to send it as an iMessage.
    solution? Anyone? Thanks

It doesn't affect what she sends you. What happens is that when you reply, iMessage checks Apple's servers and finds a device active with her phone number, so it tries to send it as an iMessage. iMessage is tied to the phone number as well as an e-mail address.
    Tell her to try this:
    Go to: https://supportprofile.apple.com/MySupportProfile.do
Log in if not already logged in.
    Click on "edit products"
Click on the "x" to the right of the product.
    Click "unregister"

  • IPhone trying to send message as iMessage to non-iOS recipient

When I create a new message, I select the contact (who has a non-iOS device, in this case a Samsung Galaxy), the contacts name is green, which is fine.
When I select the green contact's mobile number, the banner at the top goes from "New Message" to "New iMessage", the name stays green, but after typing a message the "Send" button remains greyed out so I cannot send it.
I don't know why the iPhone is trying to send this as an iMessage when it clearly knows full well that the recipient is non-iOS (as the contact name is green).
I have an iPhone 4s on iOS 7.1

    Hey there Barkster,
It sounds like you are unable to send messages to a non iOS device when creating a new message. I would use the following troubleshooting from the following article:
    iOS: Troubleshooting Messages
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2755
To resolve issues sending and receiving SMS, follow these steps
Go to Settings and turn airplane mode off.
Make sure that you have a cellular network signal in the status bar of your iPhone. If there's no signal, learn more about troubleshooting no service.
    Restart your iPhone.
Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings on your iPhone.
Remove your SIM card and insert it again.
If you still can't send or receive SMS, follow these steps
Make sure that the contact who's trying to message you isn't blocked in Settings > Messages > Blocked.
Make sure that you're using the area code with the contact's phone number. When sending messages internationally, you also need to use the contact's international code.
If you're using a "Pay as you go" SMS plan, make sure it has enough available balance. Contact your carrier if you're unsure of your SMS plan or the available balance.
If the issue occurs with a specific contact or contacts, back up or forward important messages and delete your current messaging threads with the contact. Create a new message to the contact and try again.
If the issue occurs with a specific contact or contacts, delete and recreate the contact from the Contacts app. Send a new message to the contact.
Back up and restore your iPhone as new.
If your carrier has recently ported your phone number, the porting process might not be complete. Contact your carrier to confirm that the porting process is complete.
Contact your carrier to confirm that you're provisioned for sending SMS and are in an area with cellular coverage.
Contact your carrier to verify there are no blocks or filters placed on your wireless account preventing you from sending SMS.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Take care,
    Sterling

  • My iPhone isn't sending iMessages

Hi, I am having some trouble with my iPhone 4S (3G on Bell in Canada). I just got it 2 days ago and the data wasn't working when I first got it, I had that sorted out and it works fine now. Yesterday everything was working fine but today I went out and tried to send a message a few minutes after I had left the range of my home WiFi network and the progress bar for sending a message would go almost to the end then would stop, it eventually just sent as a text message (green instead of blue). Now I really want this sorted out because iMessage is the only thing that isn't working, the Safari web browser, AppStore and apps are all working fine on 3G. I have attatched a few images of my problem
The first error I got when I got home and tried to send an iMessage over WiFi
Went into the message settings and turned iMessage off and then on again; it said Waiting for activation... and then it said the iMessage sends messages to iPhones, iPad, iPod touch blah blah blah...
At this point it still gave me that first error message so I decided to enter my Apple ID by pressing the button "Use your Apple ID for iMessage"
This is what message I got when I signed in.
So, could anyone please help me I really need to get this error fixed! Thanks
And yes, I have tried re-booting, twice.

The servers are down right now for some users.  See http://www.apple.com/support/icloud/systemstatus/.

  • New iPhone 5 not sending iMessages to all iPhone users

    Hello,
I just purchased a new iphone yesterday (5s).  It is sending all text messages to my husband as texts rather than iMessages (he has iphone 4s).  However, it sends iMessages to my Mom's iphone without a problem.  I have tried all of the common fixes:
    1. Power cycling phone
    2. Resetting network connections
    3. Turning off iMessaging and turning it back on
    4. Turning off iMessaging, resetting network connection, turning iMessaging back on
None of these methods has resolved this issue.
I have confirmed that his phone has a data connection/wifi.  This was not an issue before switching to new iPhone, my previous iPhone 4 sent iMessages without a problem.
Can someone please advise on how to fix this - this is super frustrating for me.
    Thank you!

It says they are sent from my end, no exclamation marks at all. The other person has got a nokia (i think, looks like an imitation of the blackberry) and is on tesco mobile. i have gone through their phone and theyve not blocked me, i can still make calls to them fine. As far as i am aware, this is the only contact they dont send to. I have looked online and have seen some iphone users claiming it is a glitch with the iOS setting??

  • My phone won't stop trying to send iMessages to a Blackberry user

My friend experimented with the iPhone 4S, but returned it a week later for another Blackberry.  Now my iPhone won't stop trying to send him iMessages.  I've tried deleting his contact info (from everywhere, including the iCloud), and re-entering it.  I've also tried deleting all previous text/iMessage conversations with him.  Restoring, resetting, etc.  Nothing has worked.  Any thoughts/suggestions?

You don't have much choice, do you? You're either going to have to restore the software or take it to the Genius Bar to see about getting that button fixed.

  • IPhone Won't Send iMessage Photo to One Specific Phone

My wife's phone will not send photos via iMessage to my phone.  We're on the exact same wifi, exact same carrier.  Everything works fine when I send her iMessages or photos via iMessage.  She can send me iMessages, but when she tries to send me photos, the photo is "delivered" then about 10 seconds later it pops up "not delivered."
I've tried resetting the network settings, signing out and back in of iMessage, Facetime, and iTunes, I've tried resetting the wifi connection on both phones, I've made sure the contacts are correct in each phone.
What's happening & how do I fix this?  It's only my phone.  She can send photos via iMessage to all other iPhone users we know.
We both have iPhone 4S running iOS 7.1.1.

Are you using separate Apple IDs?  If not, that would be a problem.  iMessage will not send information to the same Apple ID on another device.
