Iphone Turning Volume Down by Itself

So here is my issue. The iPhone will turn it's volume all the way down, by itself, leaving me unable to hear any alerts, phone calls, or alarm clocks. Whenever I use the side volume to turn it up, it will just automatically turn it all the way down. The strange part is that when I use the iPod it doesn't turn the volume down on that. Hence it is basically just turning down general volume (ringtones etc). I am thinking it might actually be a hardware issue. I will do a genius appointment but can anyone give me help/advice? Thanks!!

Hey, so yea i made some progress with the situation. So i discovered that the top left corner is near the module that controls volume. For example if you press down on it hard your volume will flutter. So if it goes crazy i just tap that a few times and it will usually be okay for a while. However, I figured out the main problem was that steam (condensation) was getting into my phone so now that I stopped having that happen it is much improved. I am debating getting a new iphone cuz it is also my alarm clock and in the middle of the night it will at times turn itself down so...but hey man thanks for responding I'm happy i'm not the only one having this problem. Keep me posted. Take care.

Unfortunately this is probably a hardware issue and you will need to take it to an Apple Store.

  • After 2 weeks my Iphone 4s shuts down by itself and I cannot  turn it on. What can I do. Itunes is telling me to restore the phone but the phone is saying the software isn't available

My Iphone 4s  shut down by itself after a phone call and I cannot turn it on. I took it to istore and they said it was unrespinsive and there is nothing they can do? Anyone has a clue what can be done? When I connect the phone to itunes it indicates that the phone should be restored, however when i try to restore it, it says the "software for this iphone is not currently available" Is there anything I can do other than put this brand new iphone in the grabage?

On computer, at the top of this page is a Tab for iTunes, click it, make sure iTunes is up to date. Also make sure computer Fire Wall and Anti Virus do not interfere with iTunes, turn them OFF to be certain.

  • Iphone 5 volume raises by itself. Not a hardware problem i think

I have a Iphone 5 and sometimes, after i tap + volume, the volume raises itself to maximum, like it has the key jammed. When i tap -volume it drecreases but as i stop taping -volume it raises it self immediatly. I tried to tap sleap button, home button, change the volume on the screen without using colume keys, but nothing fixes it. The only way it does is by restarting the iphone, shutting it down, turning it on again. So i assume its a software problem. If the key was jammed it would be jammed after and before restarting the iphone. It happens while i'm using phones (simple ones, without mic or volume keys). When it does i unplug phones and the problem still happeans, so i ssume it's not a phones problem. Can someone helpe me? Thanks!

You think it is old because you got it this past February? Mine is from November 2003. In your manual you should find instructions about adding RAM to the iBook. The RAM is located under the Airport card. Therefore, you'll also see how to remove and reinstall the Airport. It is almost as simple as lifting up the keyboard.
It could be the wire to the Airport was pinched and is shorting out. But that's a hugely wild guess. If I'm correct then it is time to replace that wire. Go visit the Genius Bar again.

  • My iPhone 4 shuts down by itself

I'm one of the few who are still using iPhone 4 , but anyway, I had this problem happened twice already today. The phone shuts down by itself. The screen becomes dead and black. I have to press and hold the wake/sleep button with the Home key at the same time for it to start. It works for a while, but then it happens again. Can anyone help? Appreciate it much.

  • How to get my lock button to stop turning volume down then locking, and my side volume button to stop locking my iPod?

Recently sent my iPod touch 4 generation into a local place for a battery change, and now it's suddenly swapped the lock button and lower side volume button. The lock button now turns the volume down then locks, and the volume button turns down and locks too. Anybody know how to stop this? It's annoying! Thanks for your help:)

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem take it back to where you got it fixed. They messed up.

  • IPhone 4s shut down by itself at battery 10%, what's wrong ?

Not the first time did I encounter this problem that iPhone 4s shut down automatically by itself at battery 6%-10%.
Does anyone have this issue so far?
    Thanks

it will at 10% ... something about it needs the xtra reserve..so when you plug it in it wakes back up right away, but if you let it drain tofar, it takes minutes to get enough charge to wake back up.
    Hope thats right ??

  • IPad 2 Dent, Unable to Turn Volume Down Physically

I just got this iPad 2 as a present from him. I recently just opened it, and noticed that there is a dent ON the bezel direct center of the volume rocker. I can change the volume up, but i am unable to turn it down without using the multitasking bar. Also, you can get a fingernail in between the bezel and the screen, so in other words, dirt is able to get INTO my iPad 2, literally inside the casing. Would Apple cover this as this was a brand new product purchased March 11th, and was given to me as a present on April 8th. It was still in the shrinkwrap, so i know my dad didn't do it. It seems like a manufacturing problem. Is there anyway i can get it fixed using my Apple care limited warranty? The store won't allow me to take it back as it has been over 15 days.

The problem is the time frame that you have waited from purchasing to opening the product. But I would present my case to Apple Care regarding the 1 year warranty. Either call Apple Care at 1-800-MY APPLE or make an appointment for the Genius Bar in the nearest Apple Store and explain exactly the situation and ask for a replacement under the warranty. Get names and positions of everyone with whom you speak. If you are unsuccessful on the phone with the first tier agent ask to be transferred to the supervisor. Be firm but polite in insisting that this iPad must be replaced under the warranty. If you have no success, as a final resort ask for your call to be escalated to Apple Customer Relations.

  • Turning volume down on IMAC

Hey guys i jt bought the new 2.66 ghz imac and i love it. Problem is i cant figure out how to turn the volume down. I hit the F11 and F12 keys and it just brings up like the weather and the time and calendar. I know it sounds dumb but i am new to mac and i cant figure out how to use the volume. any help would be appreciated.

    Hi JD,
Besides accessing the audio controls from the System Preferences/Sound pane you can change the volume from the Status Menu Bar. (Top right in your screen) There's a small audio icon. Just click that and the slider will be available. If the audio icon is not available there go to System Preferences/Sound. At the bottom of that window select: Show Volume in Menu Bar.

  • Can't turn volume down

The volume on my IPOD classic doesn't turn down far enough.  I think this is a new problem.  Does anyone have a solution other than buying a separate volume attenuator?

Using the original ipod earbuds yields the same result.  There is a floor on the volumn that prevents turning the volumn down beyond a certain point.  As to your point on other earphones, it's really irrelevant.  If I turn the volume all the way down, the output to the earphones should go all the way to 0, so if my earphones had a built in amplifier (which they don't), it would be amplifying a 0 signal.
For the EU law, the volume should start at 0, and rise somewhat linearly to a maximum level, and plateau there.  In this case, as we turn the volume down, there is a point at which the output of the ipod does not get any softer.
So, back to the original question(s) - is there any way to actually turn the volume down to an arbitrary level?
