IPhone Typing Caps Lock?

This may be a simple question, but one thing that has always bugged me about the iPhone keyboard is that is seemingly impossible to hold down caps lock...even when u manually push the caps lock button it deactivates as soon as i enter 1 letter.
am i being stupid and is there a way to enable caps lock until i want to disable it?
ive just noticed that under keyboard settings there is an option to "enable caps lock" which was "off"....ive switched it on and it still doesnt do what i want it to.
thanks in advance.

  • HT1338 My MacBook Pro (running Leopard 10.5.8) won't allow keyboard to type an upper case 'C' using the shift key...works fine with caps lock, or, with my Typinator workaround using double-typed lower case c (not always best). Any ideas?

My MacBook Pro keyboard won't type an upper case 'C' using the shift key... only with caps lock. Workaround has been to use Typinator by typing a double lower case c, not always the best solution. Mac is a refurbished model, which initially was fine. Apple tech helped me correct the quirk when it first appeared, but now it has returned and refuses fixes. Any ideas?

I'm willing to bet that this has something to do with iCloud.  I've been facing a frozen computer nearly every time I go into it.
In Activity Monitor I have seen two programs associate with iCloud that take up about 2.5 GB of memory (I only have 4 in the computer) -- causing everything to freeze.  One of these is called "iCloud Helper" and the other one is something like "Address Book Sync helper" -- I see parts of these names in the stuff you have posted.
I am at my wits' end with these and have written to Apple asking them to do away with these or fix them.  To get rid of the Address book sync thing I have gone into system preferences for iCloud and unchecked Contacts -- but then spontaneously it gets rechecked.  And oftentimes after I Force Quit the iCloud helper, it spontaneously turns on again.  My conclusion --- the iCloud is basically unusable.  It turns a Mac into the most useless, clogged, sluggish PC.  If this is happening to a lot of people's computers -- and I see no reason why yours or mine should be an exception -- these programs just might destroy Apple itself.
So -- I'm about to completely give up on iCloud, and I suspect that others will too unless this gets fixed.
    Cheers,
    Bob

  • Why does my MacBook start typing in upper case even though Caps lock is off?

On occasions, when typing, my MacBook starts to type in upper case even though the Caps lock is off? This is not a physical sticking of the shift key as it happens even when using a USB keyboard? I have to use the shift key kind of in reverse to revert to lowercase entry.
I have checked settings and I cannot find anything that could be causing it.
    Really bloody annoying!
    Can anybody help.
I have a two week old MBP w Retina Display. This did happen on my old MBP and I did restore this new MBP from my Time Capsule disk so assume I brought the problem with me so to speak.

I was in a Pages Doc and inadvertently had the Caps Lock on. How Can I change all the text I typed from Upper Case to Lower Case?

    Several protocols may be used.
Here I describe two of them.
    (1) the one which I use : install and use the "Convert to Lowercase" service available in the free WordService
    (2) copy your text, paste in TextEdit and enter the Edit menu.
I guess that you will recognize the items in your English menu.
I apologize but I don't know the English items.

In addition to enabling it, you will need to double-tap the shift key to lock it each time. It will turn blue. Tap it once to unlock.
    Isn't this the easier way?
You have to enable it in the settings before the shift double-tap will activate.

  • ENABLE CAPS LOCK (?) Version 2.1, IPHONE 3G

On the Home screen, tap Settings, Tap General, Tap Keyboard, Mark Enable Caps Lock: those are the instructions in order to CAPS LOCK on IPHONE... but it doesn´t work. Does anybody experienced the same problem ?

That enables the caps lock option - it does not actually turn the caps lock on.
Once enabled, to actually turn it on, double-tap the caps key on the keyboard.

  • Compaq Elite 8300 All-in-One, Windows 7 Prof Caps Lock on or off freezes typing

I have bought a brand new HP8300 & find that when I use the cap lock, either on or off, it freezes typing & I have to reposition the cursor to restart typing. Being a touch typist & typing many schedules & reports this is becoming annoying. Tried various Windows settings & 3 keyboards wireless & wired & it happens with all. HP Tech advised me to try resetting the BIOS to default which cures the problem, but then during the day it reoccurs again.  Restart causes it to default back to the fault unless the BIOS is reset first.  Anyone heard of this? Is this a BIOS fault, any ideas what I can do please.  Thanks

Thanks for your help, did try it but unfortunately it made no difference.  The BIOS setting back to default seemed to be the only way to stop the problem, but then it returned as soon as the pc started up again.  Eventually HP replaced the BIOS and I reinstalled Windows 7 which has cured it so far.  The pc was the business edition by the way.  Thanks again

  • My caps lock is off so why is my text in ps cs6 typing in all caps?

Im working on a poster that needs to get done asap but all my lettering are in caps. I tested my caps lock and they are off so why is everything still in caps? All the settings are the same as they were when I lasted opened it and there were no problems. How can I fix this issue?

Open the Window - Character panel and look to see if the little TT button is pressed.  Settings are sticky, so perhaps you used that function before.
You can reset the entire Text tool by right-clicking in the tool icon...

  • [SOLVED(kind of)] Typing 'install' anywhere in Arch turns Caps Lock on

This is a strange one.  Anytime I type the word install, whether X apps or apps running outside of X, Caps Lock is turned on, including the light on my keyboard.  My keyboard is 'Microsoft Comfort Curve Keyboard 2000 v1'.  The text I see, either in bash or an app running on X, is 'instALL' when this happens.
This does not happen on Windows, nor has it done this in other distros (PCLinuxOS).  The keyboard is relatively new, does not appear to have any stuck keys, doesn't exhibit any other strange behavior, etc.  Am I out of my mind or is this some obscure thing that is only mentioned in dark corners or back-alleys?

b4data wrote:That certainly seems odd. Are you able to modify the behaviour using xmodmap?
Yes, I tried changing the Caps Lock to Delete, just for the fun of it, and instead of 'instALL' I would get 'instll'.

    When you say

you do mean in a tty, yes? In any event, what DE/WM/DM are you using? Have you anything in your .xinitrc, .bash_profile, rc.local et cetera that you may have set up for modifying your previous (presumably correctly working) keyboard?
Yes, the behavior is in a tty as well as any X program.  I am using a custom setup with fluxbox, lxpanel and pcmanfm.  I have not made any changes to my .xinitrc, .bash_profile, rc.local that would cause this.  I do use numlockx for turning on the NumLock, but that's it.

  • Caps Lock when typing in new video tour?

Hey, in the video tour for the latest update, the guy "caps lock" the keyboard (the shift button turns blue) when he is saving the New York Times webpage as a webclip.
    How did he do that?

    deeseeArch,
If you double tap on the shift button (the up arrow) it sets caps lock.
    Hope this helps,

  • Key board Caps Lock

I can't get my caps lock to function. It will auto caps lock at the begining of each line and after a period. I can cap a letter but I double click and it wont turn blue and lock the cap on. Any ideas???

Caps lock plus a few more goodies...
    Keyboard:
Turn Auto-Capitalization on or off: Choose General > Keyboard and turn Auto-
    Capitalization on or off.
By default, iPhone automatically capitalizes words after you type sentence-ending
    punctuation or a return character.
Set whether caps lock is enabled: Choose General > Keyboard and turn Enable Caps
    Lock on or off.
If caps lock is enabled and you double-tap the Shift key on the keyboard, all letters
you type are uppercase. The Shift key turns blue when caps lock is on.
Turn the ”.” shortcut on or off: Choose General > Keyboard and turn ”.” Shortcut on or
    off.
The ”.” shortcut lets you double-tap the space bar to enter a period followed by a space
when you’re typing. It is on by default.

  • Enabling "Caps Lock"

I see the "enable caps lock" feature under the settings on the iPhone. But when I enable it and go to type the CAPS still work like a shift button (Capitalizes the first letter then goes to lower case). Does anyone know how to resolve this issue?

Caps lock enabled means that when you are typing later you can *double tap* the Shift button to lock it down (turns blue). If not enabled, then double tapping does nothing.

  • Caps Lock LED not working in X unless I hold shift

Hi, I recently installed Arch, installed X and configured it as the wiki says, installed awesome and now I switched the language toggle to Caps Lock instead of Alt+Shift.
I hoped the LED would tell me what language I'm typing in. But I noticed the LED wasn't working (Num Lock LED does work however).
I looked on the forum and it said to use
    kbd_mode -u
to switch the keyboard to UTF-8 and it'll be fine.
Now Scroll Lock works too (it didn't before), but Caps Lock does something weird, it lights up for a split second then immediately turns back off. That unless I hold shift when I press Caps Lock, then it works fine, but I don't want to hold shift...
So how can I make it work?
EDIT: In the tty Caps Lock works fine.
    Thanks.

Standard troubleshooting procedures in order are power the iPhone off and on, Reset, Restore and if no change after and or all in order, call AppleCare (800) 694-7466 or make an appointment at an Apple Store if there is one nearby.
Although others may have experienced the same, this does not mean the majority have.
