IPhone unlocked and restored from backup .. still unlocked?
I recently unlocked my iPhone 4S through iTunes successfully receiving the "Congrautlations...." message. However, after this I restored it from a backup as to not lose all of my contacts, texts, photos, etc. Now it says my carrier is still AT&T. By restoring the phone, did I cancel out the unlock? Do I just have to restore it to factory settings and lose all of my data? I've read thoroughly Apple's instructions and it does not state this anywhere. Thank you!

Settings > iTunes & App Stores > Apple ID: > View Apple ID > Country/Region.
You must have a verified billing address & be located in the country whose store you are trying to use. -
I just got an iphone 6. Not all of my music was on itunes, so I logged in and instead of clicking set up as new iphone I hit restore from backup, thinking it only pertained to the music in itunes. Now my new iphone looks just like my old iphone and has iphone 5 settings. How can I undo and get back to iphone 6 settings?

While updating my iphone 4s to ios6, I had to restore it. Now every time I connect to itunes, I get the "Set Up Your iPhone" window with the set up as new iphone and restore from backup options. After the restore, I got everything except my apps and music back. Do I need to set the phone up as new again?

ThanksIf you're old phone that was repalced was a higher version of iOS, it wont be able to restore. Update your iPhone to the lastest iOS 7.0.4 and try to restore it then.

My 3gs wont restore after ios 5 update. I have tried firmware restore and restore from backup, neither works. All I get is "iphone restore failed because backup session failed" Any ideas on how to make a successful restore with this ios 5 update?
I was having the same problem, I backed up my phone and then updated to iOS 5 and then it kept telling me it could not restore from my backup as it had failed. After reading a bunch of forums and posts and trying everything, I did manage to get it to work. I had tried the Time zone, creating a new computer user account, disabling anti-virus, etc.
It took a combination of things, one of which was disabling the anti-virus completely and copying the contents of the backup folder to my desktop and then deleting everything in the backup folder. Then I rebooted the PC, entirely disabled the anti-virus, copied the one backup I wanted to restore from the desktop to the backup folder and then trying to restore. Low and behold the phone said restoring from backup and I am back in business, so when in doubt, trying combining some of the fixes together. -
Synching iPhone after factory restore and restore from backup; synching appears stuck on Step 5 of 5, "waiting for items to copy." That message displays for hours with no apparent progress.
I never had this problem, but just noticed it happening.. Please note it's a BUG. I went out and bought a 128GB iPhone just to hold all my songs. It wouldn't work. This never happened with the iPhone 3/3s/4/5/5s but started happening with the iPhone 6. After 40 hours of working through all possible solutions on the web and with Apple cares support (supposedly senior level) They finally suggested what the problem was. I had "Convert higher bit songs to 128 aac" Checked. This does not work One more thing when I unchecked that, the sync took like 3.5 hours instead of the 9-12 hours is usually took even on the smaller iphones. I have 98.7GB of music. Before I was just syncing a list of specific songs.
The syncing seems to be random when it has the problem though. -
Can I back up computer with time machine on lion then reinstall snow leopard and restore from backup safely?
If your machine came with Snow Leopard or earlier and you have your install disks, yes, you can reinstall SL. However, you will need to erase the entire hard drive so you will lose all your files. Also note that there are some apps (such as Mail) which can't be downgraded "automatically" such as with a restore from Time Machine. Here is some info on TM:

Backing up an iPad/iPhone and Restoring from Backup
To preface this post, I have always had Apple products and currently own an iPhone, iPad and MacBook Pro. I have also spent about 4 hours on the phone with Apple support staff and they recommended I make a post on the Apple Support Forums.
Basically, this is a warning that when you backup your iPad or iPhone, Apple only backups contacts, notes, photos, calendars, and mail.
According to the third representative I spoke to, Apple does not, I repeat DOES NOT, actually back up music and playlists in your iTunes on your devices or backup the apps you have on them.
I had to get my iPad replaced because the smart cover was corroding and I did a full backup before I brought my iPad in to the Apple store. When I tried to restore from backup, everything but my iTunes libraries and my apps reappeared. For most, the iTunes wouldn't matter, but I was using a newish computer and had not yet organized my music library, although I had transferred all the songs back from an external drive. The apps are always a pain, since you have to manually download all of the ones you want after going to your purchases in the iTunes store.
However, a helpful thing I did learn, despite the fact that all my music from my iPad was gone, was that you can restore old playlists by quitting iTunes and going to Finder > Home > Music > iTunes and selecting iTunes Music Library.xml and dragging it to the desktop. Then you open iTunes and click File > Library > Import Playlist and select iTunes Music Library.xml from your desktop.
Anyway, this is one of the first times I have been thoroughly fed up with Apple: if their policy is to not back up music or apps when a user clicks backup, then they need to make it clear. Before I restored from backup, those files appeared in my iTunes as if they existed, although according to my Apple representative, they never did.All the information about what gets backed up is available from Apple. Most people will not have the unfortunate coincidence that you had wherein you wanted to restore a backup because your iPad needed replacement and simultaneously had an issue with your computer that had been storing your music.
So although the iTunes backup does not contain your music, you could subscribe to iTunes Match as described here and get that music all stored in the iCloud for you.

Having a hard time rebooting iPhone 5 after restore from backup!
Here is my problem, my new iphone 5 did a restore from backup from my 4S. It took awhile because I have a lot of apps. Unfortunately not all the folders were intact. I heard that you have to do a double restore from backup. Once I did my 2nd restore from backup, the phone goes through a reboot process. I get the apple logo and then a blank screen. I have tried holding the home and top button with and without it being plugged in. I got it working and did a restore from backup again, thinking the folders would be restored. It did not work again. After trying about 5 or 6 times, I finally got the phone to come up again. Unfortunately I still have not gotten my folders back they way it was. It's partial and now I don't want to try to do another restore from backup. So I guess itunes is still not fixed in terms of restoring apps and folders they way it is supposed to be. Anyone else have this issue?
Sorry to say my friend, but any second you going to lose from that moment on is a lost second. I d like to wish you luck and after all said and done - get back here and tell me if I was wrong. BTW if those were text group messages, your phone was never a problem.

All contacts disappeared on iPhone - Can't restore from backup, iCloud now gone too
Just sitting and watching TV and having some minor text conversations on my phone (5S).. Next thing I know a message pops up without a name and the +1 area code an number.. The message is from the same person and number I was just texting. Strange I thought.. Pulled up my contacts and "no contacts" is displayed. Checked my settings.. iCloud contacts are still enabled.. reset my phone.. reset network settings.. nothing helped.. I thought, no big deal.. I backup every night.
First time restoring from backup, I saw all the contacts there and thought i was in the clear.. 10 seconds later, they disappear before my eyes! Getting very frustrated i tried an older backup. They don't even show up. I log into iCloud on my laptop and they are there for 2-3 seconds and disappear.
I've been using iPhone's since the original and have the new phone every year.. I pretty good with these phones, but this has me stumped/very frustrated. Has anyone experienced this or found a solution? I'm out all my contacts from the last 8 years.. Thinking I never had to worry because I've backed up!

RyanI don't think that is the case.. I noticed they were there when I would first complete a restore from backup but as soon as my apps started loading they would disappear again.
I got them back by immediately turning on airplane mode as soon as I completed the restore. I the turned off iCloud sync and selected keep contacts on this phone. turned iCloud back on and selected merge contacts.
First time I tried that it worked for a minute until the apps started to update again, I believe it might have been WhatsApp, then, what do you know, contacts gone again. I repeated the process and, this time, I deleted all my apps. Seems to be working ok now. All contacts have stayed.
Is it possible that an auto update for an app that accesses your contacts could have a bug that does this? Whatever it was, I am very glad I got them back.

After ios 5 update and restore from backup my passcode doesn't work, what happened?
yesterday iupdated my ipod touch 4g to ios5 and i selected to backup from an itunes backup i made yesterday morning, but after doing so, my ipod went to sleep, and when i tried to unlock it, it told me ipod disabled wait 1 minute, after a minute i tried again but then it said wait 5 minutes, why isn't my passcode working?
Restore from Backup once more. Passcodes are not restored in backups, so you should be able to get on the iPod without a passcode, then go into Settings and set up a new one (or the old one if you want).

I backup my iphone4g in Itunes and then restore from backup to Iphone4S, the contact numbers, messages and pictures all can sync..but the applications can not sync? What's going on ?? Anyone knows?? Is the problem about the Itunes? Cos I am using Itunes 10.5...
I've tried both. First, I tried on my pc, where iTunes had installed iCloud when it last updated. I have iTunes installed on this computer (and on my iPad and iPhone), but that wasn't the issue.
So I went online, thinking I needed a separate iCloud Apple ID, but it prompted me for my current Apple ID and gave me the message about my ID being "valid" but not an iCloud account," which, lol, was what it had asked me to do in order to create one. Photos mysteriously vanished and iphone won't restore from backup. iOS 6
Ok well hopefully someone has a good answer for this because I know numerous techs that currently work for apple that are going to have some very colorful stories to tell their familes over dinner about an irate customer they were trying to "help" earlier in the day. After updating to iOS 6 I suddenly realized that not only was every App, contact, and song missing but also every picture that I had on my phone. I began to sigh a sigh of relief when I realized that after syncing with itunes the Apps, contacts, and songs were replaced with great haste until I realized that I still had none of my pictures. Mind you alot of the pictures are saved in otehr locations on the computer and some to my email but there are several pictures of my twin baby girls that have been saved over the course of the last 8 months that were only on the camera roll. I looked into the issue a bit and found a solution that looked promising. Restore the iPhone 4s to the backup file that was made by iTunes that was before the pictures were all erased. Followed the manual perfectly only to recieve error messages about how there is not enough space on my hard drive to create a file. Not only is there more than enough space but the message itself is extremely confusing because I am not trying to make a file....I am trying to apply a file that is already on the C Drive to the iPhone through iTunes. I have manually went into my hard drive and located where the file is being kept. Mind you it is all encrypted but after the arduous task of adding up all of the little file's and big file's sizes I have come to the conclusion that this is indeed the backup file seeing as how before all my information got molested I had a little under a gig of space of my phones 13.5 capacity and after adding aaaaaaalllllll the files together in the "backup" folder I came out to a figure of ~12.5. If anyone is willing to or can help then please do because currently teh words irrate and ****** don't begin to illustrate the anger that is boiling within me at the thought of paying a company for a service and being a loyal customer and then having 8 months of memories ripped away because of some glitch or mishap. Just had the same problem, did this and it worked.
Delete all of your previous backups, do an new backup from scratch, and then restore from the new backup.
