IPhone unlocking: Carrier Update no longer an option?

I'm in the process of unlocking my iPhone 4 through AT&T, and I was told that when I plugged my iPhone in I would be notified of a carrier update to install. I did this yesterday, and the carrier update appeared, but I declined it so I could do it later. Now when I plug in my iPhone, I don't get the option for a carrier update anymore. What happened? Did I have one chance to update and now it's gone? Do I have to call AT&T again?
I don't know if this is important, but when I plugged my iPhone in I had to update to the latest version of iOS. Is it possible the carrier update compounded with that and it's already done?
Thanks very much. I'm leaving the country tomorrow so I hope I can get this figured out tonight!

Restore your iphone as new.

  • Iphone 2.0 update no longer working with Chrysler Uconnect Hands Free

Hello. I recently downloaded the 2.0 update for my original iphone and it will no longer work with the my Uconnect hands free setup in my 2008 Dodge Ram. I am a Chrysler Dealer Parts Manager and have installed and shown many people how to set these uconnect hands free devices up but I have no connection with the 2.0 update. I pair the phone as a new phone and it will pair but will not show up at all and it says "No Phone". Anybody know a fix for this. Help Apple!!!

I have a new Dodge Nitro. U Connect and iphone were working great. I had no problems until the 2.0 update. I tried calling apple care but gave up quickly when I realized I was going to be waiting forever with everything else they have going on.
The weird thing was that I was on a call trying to get some help from a friend of mine and all of a sudden the phone started working with the u connect. Then after leaving and returning to the car it stopped working again. Haven't been able to get it working since. I though maybe you had to be on a call for a while before it would transfer over. That wasn't it.
I tried turning off wireless too. Again no effect.
The phone shows that it is paired with the u connect. I've tried unpairing and repairing several times still to no effect. They just aren't working. This is a HUGE problem. I love my iPhone but may have to give it up and switch if they don't come up with a fix in the next month or so.
Anybody who can help me solve this would definitely move to the top of my Christmas Card List!

  • HT4882 Apple Support Update: No longer an option to Automatically illuminate keyboard in low light.

This Apple Support page appears to be outdated:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4882
My Mid 2012 MacBook Pro has no option to Automatically illuminate keyboard in low light.
The option now offered, Adjust keyboard brightness in low light, does not enable the keyboard backlight to be completely turned off.
The ability to completely turn off keyboard backlighting should be an option, Apple -- get on it, please. Every little bit of energy which users can opt to save will extend charge duration and battery life, and thus should be provided.
Also, in certain situations, I want less light, and the light from the keyboard is at those times a cause of light pollution and distraction.

I've found an answer to my question about how to turn off the keyboard backlighting on the mid 2012 MacBook Pro 13":
The F5 function key's primary function is as the Keyboard Backlight Dimmer, and can dim keyboard backlighting all the way to nothing.  (F6 is Keyboard Backlight Brightener).
Nonetheless, This Apple Support page is still incorrect:

  • HT201270 will carrier update on iOS6 lock my phone if my iphone is unlocked?

Just curious to know if this will cause my unlocked iPhone 4S to be locked onto my carrier when I do the carrier update.
    Any help is greatly appreciated!

Not if it is legitimately unlocked. If it was hacked or jailbroken, it will probably brick it.

  • After a download of an update too long, my iPhone is stuck, I can not use it. I tried to restore it but iTunes (latest version) crashes.

After a download of an update too long, I decided to cancel it and now my iPhone is stuck. I can not use it anymore. My Iphone can start but after that the apple disappears, I have a black background. I tried to restore it but iTunes (latest version) crashes. Whan can I do ??
    Thanks.

You mean you tried to hack/jailbreak it. ONLY the carrier a phone is locked to can authorize unlocking it.
You've voided your warranty and forfeited your right to support here and from Apple.  Congratulations. You now own an iBrick. Hope it was worth it.

  • IPhone unlocked by carrier, will Apple replace with an unlocked phone in the event of a warranty replacement?

    Hi there.
I use an iPhone with the Canadian provider, Fido.  I purchased the phone from Fido and signed up for a 3 year contract in order to recieve the phone at the reduced price.  I understand that Fido performs a carrier lock on the phone when you sign up in this way so that the phone can only be used on the Fido network.
At the moment I am in the process of cancelling my contract with Fido and switching over to another provider in Canada.  After doing some research, I found out that Fido offers a service where they will unlock your phone from their network when you finish your contract, for a fee.  Since I am cancelling my contract and paying the early cancellation penalty, my contract will be satisfied and I will be eligible for the unlock service.   My plan is to have my iPhone unlocked by Fido so that I can use the phone with my new provider.
My question is this: If I have my phone legitimately unlocked by my provider, will Apple send me an unlocked phone in the event that their is a hardware failure covered under warranty, and I need a replacement iPhone?  All my previous replacement iPhones have been, to my knowledge, locked by Apple back onto my provider before they are sent to me.  But, it would be awfully annoying if a replacement phone came to me locked onto an old network that I no longer use.
Any information would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Are you sure about this? I thought so too, but when I received my replacement iPhone 6, it was locked again.
I bought a carrier locked iPhone. Then it was replaced with another carrier iPhone. This second phone (first replacement) was then unlocked. Later the unlocked iPhone was replaced with a third phone (second replacement). To my disappointment the second iPhone replacement is locked.
The Authorized Service center said that Apple made a mistake and should unlock it remotely ASAP. Apple Support however, says that iPhones are replaced with specifications of the originally initially purchased iPhone. If the original was unlocked, they would replace it with unlocked, but if it was locked then replaced with a locked and then unlocked by carrier. The carrier should be contacted again to unlock future replacements. I know it sounds ridiculous and illogical.
If an iPhone has been unlocked (obviously by a carrier), why would you replace it with a locked iPhone and ask the customer to contact his carrier and request another unlock for the replacement iPhone? So inefficient and could be a problem if the carrier allows only one unlock per year per line like most do, or if you are no longer a customer of that carrier.
Interestingly I found the following on Apple's "Hardware Warranty". Retrieved from: https://www.apple.com/legal/warranty/products/ios-warranty-document-us.html):
"Following warranty service your Apple Product or a replacement device will be returned to you as your Apple Product was configured when originally purchased, subject to applicable updates.”
What I understand from this is that replacements will be configured exactly as the originally purchased including any updates made to it. I believe unlock is considered an update.
Apple Support argues that the second device was unlocked (updated), but the original (initial / first) device was not unlocked. Therefore, I should deal with my old carrier to unlock this one.
    How insanely ridiculous is that???

Since the iOS7.0.2 update to my iPhone 4S, I can no longer choose use of my Bluetooth device if using the power cord to listen to MUSIC or answer my phone (choice of powercord as 'dock,' speaker, & phone only).  Was this former-feature now an oversight??  I'd really appreciate having my Bluetooth once again listed as a choice of  audio option.  Especially considering the battery life is not what it was prior to this update, and requires recharging often.

Sorry to tell you but unless you have a Retail Apple Store close by, they are the only ones I have found with all the adapters and accessories. I bought an extra lightning to usb adapter the other day to use in my truck. Good luck....

  • IPhone 4 after updating to iOS 5.0.1 I can no longer send emails.

iPhone 4 after updating to iOS 5.0.1 I can no longer send emails.  I get a message saying the recipients "email address" was rejected by the server.  Incoming still works fine.

SMS is a carrier feature, what did your phone carrier say when you contacted them about your issue?
Double check you have MMS turn on in message settings.

  • Iphone 5 new carrier update problem or glitch?

A few hours ago I decided to reset my phones data and settings. I haven't done this since I got it last year and it was acting a little slower than usual and I thought it would help the perfomance of the phone, I had downloaded a lot of apps. Anyhow I went into itunes to backup my data to icould and my computer. An update popped up saying there was a new update for the carrier. I went ahead and said okay and continued to sync my phone to itunes. Once I had reset my phone and continued to restart I went through a few setting as far as launguage, wifi setting ect ect when a Sim Card Inavalid warning popped up. It reads:
"The SIM card that you currently have installed in this Iphone is from a carrier that is not supported under the activation policy that is currently assigned by the activation server. This is not a hardware isue with the iphone. Please insert another SIM card from a supported carrier or request that this iphone be unlocked by your carrier. Please contact Apple for more information."
I can't get into my phone at all now all I can do is make an emergency call, start over or go back to wifi settings. I tried calling AT&T and they weren't much help. All I was told was that I could order a new SIM card. Both my parents updated their phones with the new carrier update and everything went fine. Maybe its because I went and decided to do a factory reset on my phone? Anyway I was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem at all and what can I do about it? I cant go into AT&T or Apple until tomorrow seeing as it is two late but my phone is not working at all now and it makes me quite sad =(

Personally I would take it to the Apple Store cause the iPhone is still under warranty. You should try your carrier first if your not near an Apple Store and then go from there based on what help or lack of help they provide.
    Best of luck.

  • Unlock iPhone 1 - carrier AT&T denies to be the carrier

Today i tried to unlock my iPhone 1, since it is locked due to a ios upgrade (to 3.1.3) i made yesterday.
Apple service center checked my imei number, cross referenced it to the serial number and concluded that the carrier is AT&T.
    Service incident number:
    Incident: 716495946
I contacted AT&T and their answer is that they just deny to be the carrier.
    See the chat conservation below.
I contacted Apple service center as they promised me to help me further if AT&T could not help me out.
Now Apple says its not their problem.
But they (You) can help me most certainly in my contact with AT&T to prove that they are the carrier and for fact the only party that can unlock my phone.
So please, please, please help me out in my contact with AT&T.
The other option is to throw away my favourite iPhone!
    =================
Thank you for your patience! Your AT&T Representative will be with you shortly.
Welcome! You are now chatting with 'Amy Jordan'

Amy Jordan: I see that you are not logged into your online account. No worries at all I can absolutely help you get logged in.
Marco Jager: Yesterday i tried to upgrade the iphone, but it got locked.
Marco Jager: Apple tells me its has an AT&T account.
Marco Jager: I was not aware off.
Amy Jordan: Did you ever have an AT&T account?
Marco Jager: so i would like to have an unlock on this 6 year old iphone which i could use untill yesterday
    Marco Jager: no
Amy Jordan: Okay let me look to see what we can do.
    Marco Jager: thank you
    Amy Jordan: My pleasure.
    Marco Jager: imei 01 143400 455978 5
Amy Jordan: Where did you purchase the phone?
Marco Jager: i'm not sure, but it was in china, i think it was either hong kong or shanghai
Amy Jordan: Was it from a person or a store?
    Marco Jager: a store
Marco Jager: i think the phone was intended to be sold in the usa
Amy Jordan: Okay and when did you purchase it?
Marco Jager: about 6 or 7 years ago
Amy Jordan: Okay thank you. I am am reviewing things now Marco.
Marco Jager: i travel a lot so i'm not sure
    Amy Jordan: No worries
Amy Jordan: Thanks for your patience
    Marco Jager: No worries :-)
    Amy Jordan:
Amy Jordan: Was the phone ever used?
Marco Jager: Yes it worked fine untill yesterday. After the ios upgrade to 3.1.3 it got locked.
Amy Jordan: What error does it say on the phone?
Marco Jager: it says it is locked
Amy Jordan: Is the screen locked? Is the SIM locked?
Marco Jager: actually the phone is not saying anything, it is only for use of emergency calls, so it is locked
Marco Jager: Apple says it is locked
Amy Jordan: If it has been used on other carriers up until yesterday it is definitely not locked to the AT&T network.
Amy Jordan: What carrier has it been used on?
    Marco Jager: KPN
Marco Jager: But apple says it is locked on at&t
Marco Jager: they used the imei number i provided
Amy Jordan: If it were locked to AT&T it would not have been able to be used on KPN.
    Marco Jager: ??
    Marco Jager: you tell me
Marco Jager: is there a policy that states that (i)phones older than say 2 years can be unlocked?
    Amy Jordan: Not at all.
    Marco Jager: ok
Amy Jordan: I am researching to make sure it is in fact locked since you have used it on another carrier that indicates that it is not locked.
    Marco Jager: i will wait
    Amy Jordan: Thanks
Amy Jordan: It is not appearing locked to our system. It has never been active on an AT&T account?
Marco Jager: I never had an AT&T account. It was new when i purchased it.
Amy Jordan: Does the phone have an AT&T logo on it?
    Marco Jager: no
Amy Jordan: Okay it was never locked to an AT&T account, there is no way to unlock it since it was not ever locked to AT&T. I would definitely return to the Apple store to let them know that they need to look further into it.
Marco Jager: I will, but i feel in the dark now. Apple tells me that their system says it is registered to AT&T , AT&T says it is not. I dont know what to do now.
Marco Jager: Apple even showed me the on line assistance form AT&T.
Marco Jager: to get this sorted out.
Amy Jordan: The only thing that I can think is maybe Apple entered the IMEI in wrong to show locked but I can assure you that the IMEI that you provided is not locked in our system.
Marco Jager: No they did not, because they cross reverenced it to the serial number
    Marco Jager: they matched perfectly
Amy Jordan: Okay well I would definitely return to them because that IMEI is not locked to AT&T networks.
Marco Jager: so my iphone is not locked
    Marco Jager: thank you
    Amy Jordan: Not with AT&T.
Amy Jordan: You are most welcome Marco!
Amy Jordan: How else can I help you out today?
Marco Jager: I would like to have my iphone unlocked.
Amy Jordan: It is not locked to AT&Ts network, if I could unlock it I definitely would.

Maybe you should call Apple again and ask for a Senior Advisor and/or ask them to look more closely at the Activation Profile information.

  • Iphone carrier update

    Hello! I have a factory unlocked iphone 4 with a T-mobile sim. Every time I connect it to iTunes, it says that there is a carrier update. My question is: is it safe to download this update or it can lock my phone to T-mobile? If I know right, its impossible to lock a factory unlocked phone, but I just want to be sure of this. Thanks :}

Providing it is a factory unlocked phone then it will not relock to any network.

  • Am facing issue on my iphone 5s after updating to ios 7.1.1, every while the phone hang after lock it and cannot unlock and even cannot turn on the screen this is so annoying, kindly advice if i have to go back to the store as device still under warranty

Am facing issue on my iphone 5s after updating to ios 7.1.1, every while the phone hang after lock it and cannot unlock and even cannot turn on the screen this is so annoying, kindly advice if i have to go back to the store as device still under warranty, and if its a hardware issue or software ??

    Hello HaithamOkeely,
We've an article that provides the following troubleshooting steps that may help stabilize your iPhone.
If the device is unresponsive or if certain controls aren't working as expected, restart your device.
If the device remains unresponsive or does not turn on (or power on), reset your device.
If there is no video or if the screen remains black, verify that the device has enough charge to turn on:
If you are using an iPad, ensure that it's connected to the USB Power Adapter supplied with the device.
Let it charge for at least twenty minutes, then see if it starts normally.
If there is no image on the screen, press the Sleep/Wake button to attempt to wake the device.
If the screen displays a red battery icon, continue charging the device until the battery is fully charged. Learn more about charging iPhone and iPod touch, or iPad.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, or the if the screen remains black or shows a persistent Apple logo, try restoring with iTunes:
Connect the device to your computer and open iTunes.
If the device appears in iTunes, select and click Restore on the Summary pane. Learn more aboutrestoring iOS software.
If the device doesn't appear in iTunes, try to force the device into recovery mode, and then restore it.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, contact Apple.
iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
