Iphone update (-37) error? help?!

Hey so i have synced my iphone, i went to update and it was backing up and stuff for an hour and a half and then it came up with the message saying
" An error occurred while backing up this iPhone (-37) Would you like to continue to update this iPhone? Continuing will result in the loss of all contents on this iPhone."
I really want to update to ios5 but i reaally dont wanna lose all my stuff like my notes, texts, photos and stuff can any one help me out? i have tried three times and the same thing keeps coming up.

First man up and admit, that itunes does not suggest, but tells you that update is available and you made a
decision to download and update. Once you man up - think if you still under warranty. If that is not security
software according to the link provided, it is hardware. So second try another network, may be your network
has additional security or firewall. And third decide if it worth to you pay 149 for that phone or get it replaced.
Unless your 3gs under warranty.

Now try updating your iPhone.
You can update your apps directly from the iPhone..
If you see a small red "badge" on the App Store icon with a number, just tap the icon to install those updates.
But you do need to "authorize" the new computer regardless.

Errorcode 1016 i think form Itunes.

Iphone update download error

I have been trying to update my iPhone 3G now for the umtieth time. It sometimes downloads up to 210 MB but the download never completes and instead iTunes reports: stopped (err = -3253). It also reports in a separate window: There was a problem dowloading the software for the iPhone (xxxx"s iPhone). The network connection was reset.
This seems to happen when our satellite broadband slows down slightly which makes me think that iTunes/Mac OS X resets the connection far too soon. Very annoying! Is there anything I can do about this?

Error codes in the 3000 range generally mean that iTunes cannot contact the gs.apple.com server on ports 80 or 443. This may be because out-of-date or incorrectly configured security or firewall software that is interfering with itunes attempts to contact Apple's servers. So, try disabling ALL security & firewall software.

HT4623 Iphone update problem, any help?

I hooked up phone to itunes to update to os 6, it did some stuff, but now phone goes black and itunes keeps saying I need to restore to factory settings which I did, as my stuff should be safe on icloud.. but phone keeps saying i need to connect to itunes as if there was some disconnect

These errors mean that your device or computer may have a hardware issue that's preventing the update or restore from completing.
Check that your security software and settings aren't preventing your device from communicating with the Apple update server.
Then try to restore your iOS device two more times while connected with a cable, computer, and network you know are good.
Confirm that your security software and settings are allowing communication between your device and update servers.
If you still see the error message when you update or restore, contact Apple support.

Yes. You can't update or restore any GSM iPhone without a valid sim card installed in the phone. The sim card need not be activated, but it must be valid & present. If you want to update, you need to get a sim card.

This may sound crazy, but download any free app. This often "shocks" the other apps into working.

Same here. I tried to update my iPhone 5S and iPad 4 to 7.1 but iTunes wiped out them. This thing already happened for iOS 7.0.6 update. What happened to Apple? I am really curious whether Apple is aware of this problem.

All I can tell you is that I am having the exact same problem with an iPod Touch and that I was running iTunes 9.2.1.5 at the time it happened. Upgraded to 10.0.0.68 hoping that it might help, but no joy.
I don't want to do a restore just now since the Touch seems to be working fine. Restore will have to wait until I have plenty of free time in case something goes wrong.
