IPhone update: "Cannot connect to Apple Server"
First time I got that message when I tried to update the iPhone software! iTunes works fine, all downloads and updates. Used the iTunes connectivity tests, all worked fine. My security software and all setting haven't changed. Nothing's changed. Sync works fine. When I plugged in my iPhone and started iTunes, it said an update is available, but then when I click update, it tries to connect to the server but then I get the message "cannot connect to apple server." Help! Thx
I disagree with the above two posts. It is probably the same issue as described here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/17784700#17784700
Try adjusting the DNS servers on your PC to 8.8.8.8 and then trying it.

IPad Air wifi works but Safari returns message cannot connect to Apple server?
using iPad Air wifi works but Safari returns message cannot connect to Apple server? (Friends iPad otherwise couldn't post!)
Many thanks for contacting me Carolyn. However the wifi was working fine and I found the solution from this posting:

So resetting the iPad by holding down the Home and Sleep buttons together to reset it did the job.
Cheers

Sent from my iPad -
The whole problem started when I was syncing my iPad to update it. iTunes for some reason, put it into recovery mode. I have done all the hints and tips for the error code, checked my internet connection & tried to restore on another computer, but it required an update of iTunes and would not connect to Apple server either.
Here is the work around:
When and if you get the same error it will prompt you to select one of three choices:
You have to select the LAST choice ---either Cancel (if you do this you will keep going around in circles), Restore to YOUR settings (which is really a trick question), or Restore to Factory (sorry I can't recall exact language)
Then in itunes select your ipad under "Devices" if it doesn't automatically...(YOU CAN SKIP TO #5)
There will be 3 Boxes in the "Summary" screen for you to choose from:
VERSION: DO NOT SELECT RESTORE, BACK.. I selected "Back up to this computer", OPTIONS: click on which ever box you desire (I did #1 & #2). Then I selected "CONFIGURE UNIVERSAL ACCESS" and hit "OK".
In the bottom right hand corner you will see two choices, select "SYNC" and your ipad & computer should start the syncing process which could last a LONG time depending on how much data you have backed up.
Sorry if this doesn't work for you but it's working so far for me! Good luck...and Apple please don't do this again! So very confusing! -
System Update -- Cannot connect to proxy server - SOLVED
I'm on a ThinkPad T61 running Windows Vista. When I try to download from System Update, I always get the error message "Cannot connect to proxy server."
I have tried connecting to the Internet directly via Ethernet rather than through a wireless router--it doesn't make any difference.
I have also uninstalled System Update and then installed the version I downloaded from lenovo.com--same result.
System Update is an exception in Windows Firewall, and I have even tried running System Update with Firewall disabled--ditto.
Can someone please help me?

Solved!
Go to Solution.I have discovered one other potential cause of this behaviour.
If your computer is attached to a Domain, ensure you are connected to the Domain using a profile that has administrator rights when attempting these upgrades.
I was using a local profile with administrative rights, on a network connection that was outside of the corporate LAN, and I was getting the "Cannot connect to proxy server" error.
When I connected to our Corporate LAN and logged on to the machine with an administrative profile, the Proxy Server error went away, and I was then able to connect and download my required updates.
Just an FYI if you are doing this inside a large, firewalled LAN running from Active Directory. -
my phone has full wifi and full at&t bars. it will not connect to server/network. i just updated it to the new ios6 software and it still cannot connect. any thoughts on how to fix?
The "The connection was reset" error message can be caused by a bug fix for the BEAST (Browser Exploit Against SSL/TLS) attack that the server doesn't handle.

Cannot connect to Apple server
So I've purchased 3.0, but I can't sync it to my itouch because my PC has some sort of security feature that I need to remove to access the server to download my new update. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. I've already removed firewall...still no luck.
For future reference if you are using a PC, Apple iPod OS upgrades need to be done with your anti-virus/firewall(s) turned off. If you are running any kind of commercial "internet security package", turn it off; if you are running Zone Alarm or other software firewall, turn it off.
The reason is pretty simple - your touch needs to phone home during the process. Your anti-virus often causes download problems with the OS file resulting in an incomplete download. -
iTunes tells me there is an iOS update (5.1) but it never gets any further than trying to connect to the iPad server. I've tried updating directly from my iPad and it too times out saying it cannot connect to any server. My regular Apple updates work fine.
I haven't updated yet. Apple's download servers have been too busy. Did you know you can update via wifi instead of connection to your computer?
Here's a description of the update. Not a lot of changes for iPad 1/2.

You can wait a while & update at your convenience.

My iphone has lost connection to the server; I cannot get e-mails.
My iphone has lost connection to the server; I cannot get e-mails. What can I do to fix that?
I recently put on a PowerPoint presentation at DU, in Denver Colorado; signed on as DU guest to access Internet link. SInce then I haven't been able to get e-mail on my Iphone - Cannot Get Mail, Server Stopped Responding. I tried all previous suggestions, such as rebooting phone, updating software etc. I went to MacBook Pro and tried logging on to yahoo e-mail. Apparently there was a security risk to my e-mail account so Yahoo locked up my account. I reset my password, it was verified through text message, and Voila it worked. Don't forget you also have to change this on your Iphone: go into settings; Mail, Contacts, Calendars; click on your e-mail browser, then account and enter your new password, click done and it will verify on you phone as well. Hope this helps!!!

I updated my iPhone 4S with the new iOs 6. It was successfully installed, but when I open passbook app and tapped App Store I get this message saying cannot connect to apple iTunes Store . What did I do wrong?
Try connecting to your Mac or PC and using iTunes to sync your iPhone. Disconnect your iPhone after syncing, make sure in Settings>iTunes&AppStore you have your Apple ID and password entered, and launch App Store and sign in. It should work now, but do not sign out from App Store. There seems to be a bug that prevents us from signing in again after signing out.

MY iphone 4s cannot connect to wifi after updating to ios 8.1.1
after updating to ios 8.1.1, my iphone 4s cannot connect to wifi at all.
at first, connection will show up, but when i tried to connect, i will see the wifi logo but after 15 or 30 seconds, connection will be lost again.
i will try again, but this time, my phone will hang, i need to restart but then, wifi will not work at all.
it will show that its searching for network but its not. then it will hang again,
after this, give up already.
my phone is working perfectly fine until updating my ios to 8.1.1.
the problem is i cannot upgrade again as i cannot connect to wifi.Settings/General/Reset - Reset Network Settings. If you can't turn WiFi on see: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1559

Recent iPhone update - issues connecting to server
when i connect the iPhone to the computer & tell iTunes tod download the new iPhone update, it says it cannot connect to the server? anyone else having this problem?
i'm trying to figure out if this is just an issue due to a crowded server or settings on my end that can be changed.Looks like neither of public key and password is accepted by the server. Assuming you put the right keyfile in ~/.ssh/id_rsa and you used the right password, I think the server is rejecting your account (as opposed to your authorization tokens). Does your account exist on the server? Is allowed access in the sshd config file? Or if you're trying to log in as root, is PermitRootLogin enabled?
SSH is known for being difficult to debug client side. If you keep having trouble, could you post the server side log?
By the way, AFAIK it's not possible to do two factor authentication with SSH. If you permit authentication with passwords and keyfiles, anyone can login with either. Exclusively allowing public key logins (and guarding your private key well, protecting it with a strong password) is the strongest authentication scenario you're going to get. -
I am trying to connect my iPhone to the cloud but when it asks me to agree to the new terms and conditions I click agree andI get a message stating it cannot connect to the server.
Apple servers are currently down at the moment. Try back later or wait until Apple resolves the issue.

get error message when trying to sync iphone to puter that says"cannot connect because apple mobile divise is not started? what do i do?
Restart your computer and the iPhone. Press & hold the Power and Home buttons together for 10+ seconds, ignoring the red power-off slider, until you see the Apple logo. It is safe to do, there should be no content loss. It is the same as rebooting your computer.

Why does my Apple TV keep giving me the message "Apple TV cannot connect to the server" when I try and rent a movie to watch?
Hello dprice3885,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
Take a look at the Wi-Fi troubleshooting since you can access the network but not the content.
