IPhone Update Failed- Phone dead

Got error message that update failed. Now my phone is totally dead. Blacked out.
I have a phone call with support tomorrow. Anyone else experience this? 3 days to an appointment at the Genius Bar.
Ideas?

I had mega problems too. Try following the steps in my posting as below after creating a new user account on your computer with ADMIN priviledges also. See my posting on 20/June/2009 22:33 titled "Upgrade Error number 4 and Restore Error 1603 when going to OS 3.0 - Solved" And turn off any antivirus and firewall software too, before doing so. In ITunes, highlight your iphone icon and then click the Restore Button on the ITunes Summary tab which seems to force the iphone into an update. Dont try using the Check for update button. Good Luck...........
If i was doing my upgrade again i would first do a backup in ITunes, and then On the phone go to Setting > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings. And then restore the backup afterwards. I believe this is what Apple should be recommending

  • After iphone update, my phone is dead

After updating my phone with the latest software, now just over 12 hours later, its dead and won't turn on. Hard reset doesn't seem to work

you many need to power up via the charger with both buttons pressed
so press and hold both buttons then use a toe to turn it on at the wall  hold for 30 sec+
    apple will appear
and just leave it too charge up too full before powering it on

  • Every iPhone update fails and send phone into recovery mode

I'm getting extremely frustrated, and I know I'm not the only one after searching Google, that every time an update is released for the iPhone mine fails and goes into recovery mode then works the second time. It has happened on every release of iPhone software since owning a 3G and then the 3GS. My 2G never had the problem. Is there a cause and solution to the problem?

I thought mine was sorted on the second attempt this time but it wasn't. It took 6 attempts!
To get it working finally I done the following:
    Restarted the computer
Made sure iTunes was updated to version 9
Located the 3.1 install file and delete it - Located in users/yourusername/library/itunes/iphonesoftwareupdates on the mac - not sure on a pc
Reopen iTunes and complete the restore and install. It had to redownload the update but worked this time round.

  • Ipad updating to 8.1.2 update failed iPad dead

I was updating my iPad Air to the latest OS (8.1.2) via iTunes (after taking a backup). Everything went well for the allotted 30 minutes it estimated it would take but it bummed out seemingly at that last minute and reported 'error 14'.
My iPad is now at the bootup
screen the grey one with the Apple logo and a progress bar (shoeing approx 30 % complete) - what do I do now?

    Greetings normanfromwaterlooville,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that while updating your iPad to the most recent version of iOS, the update failed and you received error 14. This error typically has to do with USB connection as described in the attached article.
Get help with iOS update and restore errors - Apple Support
Because your iPad is stuck trying to start up, I would recommend placing it in recovery mode manually and performing the update as described by the steps in the following article. If you continue to have issues, please let me know.
If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch doesn't respond or doesn't turn on - Apple Support
When starting up, you might see the Apple logo or a red or blue screen for a long time, or your device might restart again. Try these steps:
Make sure that you have iTunes 12 or later on your computer.
Put your device in recovery mode.
When you get the option to restore or update, select Update. This will reinstall iOS without erasing your data.
    Cheers,
    Joe

  • IPhone update failed and is no longer seen by iTunes, what next?

I applied the latest update to my phone and it failed.
iTunes suggested that I restore the device.
The restore operation failed as well.
Now my iPhone is no longer detected iTunes.
It does not appear as a removeable drive or camera to Windows.
    Online troubleshooting failed to help.
The only reaction that I observed is that Windows informes me that I had connected a high speed device to a slow (USB 1.0) port and suggested connecting it to another port.
Next I am going to take it to the AT&T store where I got it and see if they can help.

You may have already done this, but check out this kb..it discusses "recovery mode"
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
if that doesn't work, you can check out this article on dfu  mode, that would be the next step.

BTW my experience with customer service at Apple Store has been outstanding.  If you have one in your area you could try there

  • Software update failed - phone didn't sync

I just tried to sync my iphone and itunes prompted me to update my software. After a while there was an error message stating that the software update had failed and that I need to restore my settings.
I don't see the recent calendar entries or photos from my phone on the computer. Which leaves me to assume that the phone was not synced. Which makes me wonder why would itunes try to do a software update without getting my data off the phone first?
Anyhow. Is there any way to get back into my phone to try and get the data off it before doing the restore?

Before installing a firmware update, your iPhone's backup is updated or you should be prompted to update your iPhone's backup which can be accepted or declined.
Were you provided such a prompt?
It isn't required to install a firmware update when prompted that there is a firmware update available - this can be declined followed by syncing your iPhone with iTunes first. There is no assuming with syncing - your iPhone is synced with iTunes or it isn't, and you must not have synced your iPhone with iTunes in a while since the last firmware update was released some time ago.
Photos in your iPhone's Camera Roll are included with your iPhone's backup and I believe calendars and calendar events are also. Photos in your iPhone's Camera Roll should be imported by your computer as with any other digital camera. It isn't a good idea to depend on your iPhone's backup alone for this data.

  • Update failed, phone is in infinite loop

Selected to install update, now my phone is in an infinite loop. Start screen -> boot from recovery -> install update -> errors out. Odin Mode can be accessed. Is there a boot.img available to fix this issue?

I grabbed a newer Samsung image from the internet and was able to flash it to the phone. But android crashed at the lock screen due to the failed update, adb wasn't responsive. Took it to the Verizon store in hopes that they had a back door method of fixing my phone...should have known better...after an hour and a half the Verizon kid handed me my phone and acted like I should be grateful..they flashed userdata, they completely waisted my time. Moral of the story, flash userdata and start over because the there is nothing more that Verizon will do for you.

  • HT4623 my iphone update fail, and restore error code 4005, please tell me what should I do?

update ios7 fail, reminder saying need to restore, but fail also, error code is 4005.

If you have a phone with no Facetime, it can't ever be added. As you note, it is outlawed in several mideast countries. If you bought it in one of those, it is not an option for you.

  • Update failed, phone now just displaying logo and update bar, how do i restore my phone?

Latest update has failed, my phone now only displays the apple logo and the update bar, How do I restore my phone?

Nope - you cannot restore a backup from a newer iOS version on to a device running an older iOS version.  The reverse works, but in your case to use your backup, you must update to iOS 7.0.3 - no other option if you want to use that backup.

  • Nokia N8 update failed, phone is not turning on "D...

Hello, Im from Costa Rica and I bought the N8 from Amazon 2 months ago, everything working great till last week, I have slow responsiveness on everything, so I backed up all data and, via OVI suite, I restored the software on the phone. Everything went OK, cellphone speed back to normal... But the agenda was not working 2 days later I did the exact same procedure as before, cellphone connected to power and USB cable, hit on the restored option, procedure started, I got message that the cellphone was restarting but it never came up. Right now there's no light on the cell, I can't see the mass storage device via USB, I can only see the NOKIA USB flashing parent and NOKIA USB flashing generic when I connect it to the PC. I have try hard reset (volumen down + camera button + action button) and removing the battery for 1 hour with no luck, I can't restore my back-up because OVI suite can't detect my N8 and I can't take my phone to nokia cause IM in Costa Rica and I bought the cellphone in USA. I know 1 have 10 months left of warranty but is not that easy to send my phone 2 another country mainly cause of $$$. Have anyone faced this problem? I can't find much info on the web and the authorized nokia place in Costa Rica will validate warranty with phones sold by them (not my case and can't believe nokia is OK with these). Can anyone please help me on this. Thanks in advance, JQ

Ask the Nokia Care Centre where you live the cost of restoring your Nokia unit. It may not be that much and outweight the cost of mailing it to where you purchased it from.
On hindsight its nice to purchase the unit for a little less from another country, but then loses its shine if an issue occurs, and the Nokia Care centre in your own country wont touch it as per warranty policy.
Learning curve is next time purchase local my friend.
Hope it gets resolved for you.
    Nokia Lumia 520
     iphone 6 Plus.
    Be happy !!

  • ITunes/iPhone update and Authenticated proxy support

Itunes Iphone update fails to use username with proxy when trying to POST to http://gs.apple.com/TSS/controller
It is quite obvious that this is an Itunes bug, it is useing the proxy and will also use authentication for some portions of the process.
This happens with Iphone 3GSs and iOS 4.3.2 and Iphone 3Gs with iOS 4.2.1 iTunes 10.2.2.12, updates work fine with no proxy and normal itune functions like song buys, radio listening etc... are fine.

You don't need an app. You need couple's counseling. I believe what you want to do may also be illegal in many jurisdictions.
