Iphone update needs to connect to iTunes - I DON'T HAVE A COMPUTER WITH ITUNES?

My macbook gave up for good and I haven't purchased a new one yet, so I have been using an old PC (boo, I know). It doesn't have iTunes, so I have been using my iPhone4 for everything. My iphone has EVERYTHING stored on it (lots of songs, movies, books, etc) so I couldnt connect it to itunes on a new computer without using a third party app to download my stuff.
Okaaaaay so:
Tonight my iphone told me it was time to update, so I did. It worked fine until the picture came up on the screen telling me to connect my phone to itunes! This is a major problem for me because I do not have itunes on a computer, and if I download it, I would lose everything from my phone. As of right now I cannot use my phone because it is only the picture telling me to connect to itunes. The picture stays on for 30 seconds and then the phone will turn off, unless it is plugged in, then it will just stay on with the picture. What do I do??? I'm so paniced to lose everything from my phone and don't know what to do!

P.S. If the apple store needs my phone, can they open it without knowing my passcode? I have confidential stuff on there that I can't have anyone but a selected few see.

Unfortunately, to fix your phone will require restoring it through iTunes. Since you have no backup of the data on your phone, there is nothing to restore back to your phone. Thus, your data is gone. You can either download iTunes to your computer & restore your phone or go to an Apple store & have the geniuses do the same. In either case, your only option will be to restore as a new device, erasing all data on your phone.
Not want you want to hear, but it is what it is.

    Hi,
Thank you for your reply, I did go to my general settings, but for some odd reason I don't have a restrictions setting, or a reset setting. I thought I could reset all the setting to see if it could be that, but as I said there aren't any.
My husband also has the iPad 2, and also did the software update and hasn't had any problems at all. I took both iPad's and compared the settings thinking maybe there could be a setting that could have been changed when the update was done.

The iPhone has gone into recovery mode and you have to restore by connecting to a computer with iTunes and follow the instructions in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808.  If you do not have a computer with iTunes, a friend with a computer with iTunes, can you get to an Apple store genius bar and see if the techs will restore for you?

  • I have an iPad, gen. 2, and it says that I need to update it to download apps. I was trying to get 'Netflix' and it said I need iOS 5. I don't have a computer with me so I can't connect it to iTunes, please help?

My iPad will not update or let me download Netflix, help?

If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.1.3. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).
Tip 2 - If you're updating via wifi, place your iPad close to your router to preclude getting a corrupted download.

  • HT4061 My iphone 5c locked up after I installed the new ios 7.1.1 update.  I do not have a computer with iTunes downloaded on it.  Can I turn my phone back on another way?

I downloaded the most recent ios software  7.1.1 and now my phone will now come on.  It has the message to connect to itunes.  Unfortunately for me I do not have itunes downloaded on a computer.  Is there another possible solution to get my phone to turn back on?

have you ever tried itunes on your friends pc or someone if you have trusted that pc in your iphone then you can

  • Updated ios 8.1 now my screen is stuck on connect to itunes, I don't have a computer to do this and Apple is stating that my device is out of warranty so they want me to pay $19 to get it looked at when it is APPLE's upgrade

So upgraded my ipad and now I can't use it at all, can't get any support from Apple because it is past the 1 year, this is crazy because it is Apple's product and Apple's upgrade, NOT my fault.  Screen is stuck on connect to iTunes but cannot get it to un stick.  UGH!

If you ever want to be able to use the iPad again, you have to connect it to a computer running iTunes to restore it. Your iPad is in recovery mode and nothing can be done for it over the phone anyway. You can blame Apple for the problem if you want to, but that's not going to change anything.
Take your iPad to a friend or relatives's house that has a computer running iTunes and restore your iPad. Make an appointment at an Apple Store and ask them for help. I don't think that you have to pay for a Genius Bar visit. Phone support is a different story.
IF you have an iCloud backup, you will be able to restore the backup after you get the iPad up and running again. If you have no backup, you will have to start all over again.

  • HT4623 Just updated my iPad now it's telling me to connect to iTunes I don't have a computer to connect it to iTunes

Downloaded new update now I get a screen with a plug and iTunes but nothing else help me fix it

Unfortunately, you have to restore the iPad using recovery mode and you must use iTunes on a computer to do so. You can restore your iPad on any computer that is running iTunes, but it will totally erase the iPad. That's what would happen if you had your own computer as well, but many people would have a backup in iTunes from which they could restore,
If you backup with iCloud, you can restore that backup after you get the iPad up and sunning again. If you don't backup, you will just have to start downloading your content again. Most of your paid content will be free to download again as long as you use the same Apple ID and as long as it is still available in the stores where it was purchased.

  • Cannot update to iOS 7.0.4.  Don't have a computer.

I am attempting to update from iOS 5.1.1 to iOS 7.04.4 via settings.  I can see that the update is available and I get as far as accepting terms and conditions, seeing the upload beginning to start, but then it fails.  Error message unable to update.  The battery charge is 100% and I have 5GB storage available.
I don't have access to a PC or a Mac so am unable to attempt other suggested methods.
    Please help.

How to Upgrade to iOS 7
The iOS 7.0 update requires around 2.5 GB of storage space, so if your iPad is almost full, you may need to clear up some space. You can check your available space in Settings -> General -> Usage.
There are two ways to upgrade to iOS 7: You can use your Wi-Fi connection, or you can connect your iPad to your PC and update through iTunes. We'll go over each method.
    To upgrade using Wi-Fi:
Note: If your iPad's battery is under 50%, you will want to plug it into your charger while performing the update.
    Go into the iPad's Settings.
Locate and tap "General" from the menu on the left.
The second option from the top is "Software Update". Tap this to move into the update settings.
Tap "Download and Install". This will start the upgrade, which will take several minutes and will reboot your iPad during the process. If the Download and Install button is grayed out, trying clearing up some space. The space required by the update is mostly temporary, so you should gain most of it back after iOS 7 is installed.
Once the update is installed, you may have to run through the initial steps of setting up your iPad again. This is to account for new features and settings.
    To upgrade using iTunes:
First, connect your iPad to your PC or Mac using the cable provided when you purchased your device. This will allow iTunes to communicate with your iPad.
You will also need the latest version of iTunes. Don't worry, you will be prompted to download the latest version when you launch iTunes. Once it installs, you may be asked to setup iCloud by logging into your iTunes account. If you have a Mac, you may be prompted on whether or not you want to enable the Find my Mac feature.
Now you are ready to begin the process:
If you upgraded iTunes earlier, go ahead and launch it. (For many, it will launch automatically when you plug in your iPad.)
Once iTunes is launched, it should automatically detect that a new version of the operating system exists and prompt you to upgrade to it. Choose Cancel. Before updating, you will want to manually sync your iPad to make sure everything is up to date.
After canceling the dialog box, iTunes should automatically sync with your iPad.
If iTunes doesn't automatically sync, you can manually do it by selecting your iPad within iTunes, clicking on the File menu and choosing Sync iPad from the list.
After your iPad has been synced to iTunes, select your iPad within iTunes. You can find it on the left side menu under Devices.
From the iPad screen, click on the Update button.
After verifying that you want to update your iPad, the process will begin. It takes a few minutes to update the operating system during which time your iPad may reboot a few times.
After updating, you may be asked a few questions when your device finally boots back up. This is to account for new settings and features.

  • My Ipod Nano (3rd Gen) is stuck on the apple logo and I don't have a computer or iTunes to fix it

Says it all in the title. My 3rd Gen is stuck on the apple logo and with no computer or iTunes how am I to fix it? I'm in some money troubles at the moment and I dont have that many resources available to fix my beloved iPod. I have tried resetting but it comes back to the logo and then it dies of battery.
    Any suggestions?

If you have an Apple Store, near you, make an appointment to take it to them. If it's not a hardware failure, they may be able to help.

  • If you have a computer with iTunes and you want to sync do you need your iTunes library opened on the computer?

For ios 5 I noticed that if I wanted to iTunes sync I had to have the the library opened and running on my computer plus it takes a long time to find my iPod. Do I need to have the iTunes library up in running on my computer to wifi sync or is there something wrong wIth my iPod or computer. I run on a pc

I, too, hoped that you could buy a film for less having rented it from iTunes. Like a "try-before-you-buy".

  • I have a computer with itunes purchases that I want to burn.  keep getting an error message when trying to burn a CD

I just recovered my Itunes which disappeared for whatever reason.  Support was able to give it back to me.  It was also updated.  I now cannot burn a CD without getting an error message.  Somebody please tell me what I need to do.  I never had this problem before I lost my purchases and updated.

I take it you have Acrobat Reader installed? If the booklet itself is corrupt you'll need to contact the iTunes store support team through the report a problem links in your account history. As far as I'm aware these can't normally be redownloaded so you will need to ask for an exception.
