Iphone USB - too much power?

I'm recently getting the error message of one or more of my usb ports being disabled because something is drawing too much USB power. I've gotten this message with my iphone plugged in, and when nothing was plugged in. My computer was in for service a month ago because my trackpad had ceased to work properly. I tried to run a hardware test and the hardware test never showed up (I waited 2 minutes). Help please?

Your Iphone should have automatically created a backup before updating... unless you x'd out of the backup and moved straight to the update. In fact I've restore my iphone about 500 times so I'm positive it does in fact create a backup. So your saying that you have restored your iphone and tried the restore from backup?

Iphone "drawing too much power"

Had my macbook for 7 months and my iPhone for 4 months. Everything has worked OK with my macbook and Iphone 3G until now. (Apart from the speed issue with iOS 4.0). Then yesterday the phone could no longer connect to Itunes and I got the following error message:
"Because a USB device was drawing too much power from your computer, one or more of your USB devices have been disabled"
My trouble shooting so far:
- I have connected Iphone to other macbook = same problem
- I have connected my Ipod classic to my own macbook = no problem and syncs well
- I have tried different cables with my iphone = same problem
- I have tried same cable with ipod and other macbook = no problem with cable
- I have restarted the macbook using sleep, restart and shutdown = same problem
- I have shut down started the macbook in safe mode = same problem
- I have shut down and started the macbook using CommandOption+RP = same problem
Further to the above, I am aware there is quite a bit going on behind the scenes these days. For your information, the problem started before I had the chance to update to iOS 4.1. and it happened before I updated to Itunes 10 (or whatever the version that came out yesterday is called).

I have the same problem, it looks like a problem with the phone itself rather than the computer (other devices work).
It almost like its been designed to last just past warranty, but no more. A week ago the screen died and had to be replaced (would have been at my cost, but the apple genius broke the backlight while checking the phone, so he had to replace it free of charge.)
Looks like i'll be moving over to HTC... haven't heard of any problems with their hardware.

Why does my Macbook pro said "unplug the device using too much power to re-enable USB devices" when i plug in my iphone's charger to connect my phone with the mac?

my iphone 5's charger is not working anymore with the mac or the normal plug in neither, i dont know why. whenever i plug in my mac, i have to twist the charger a little and my mac said "USB Devices Disabled: Unplug the device using too much power to re-enable USB devices". of course it cant connect with the itunes in my mac, but somehow it still syncs the music to my iphone... i don't understand why. please help me thanks!

2011 Macbook Pro suddenly says no space available on start-up disk (plenty available) and USB drawing too much power (only charging phone). What's going on with my computer? No longer able to charge my iPhone 5.

Two days ago I was using my computer, a 2011 Macbook Pro, and suddenly got the error message reading "Your Mac OS X startup disk has no more space available for application memory. To avoid problems with your computer, quit any applications you are not using. Closing windows and removing files from your startup disk will also help."
I was only using Google Chrome, nothing was running in the background, and I have 443 of 449.25 GB available (this is after clean-up I conducted after receiving the error message, but probably cleaned up less than 25 GB), so there should be no shortage of space. However, the message kept popping up and I deleted a few files and eventually it went away and hasn't reappeared.
However, last night and then again this morning I have been getting the error message that my USB drive is pulling too much power and has been disable. All that was plugged in was my iPhone 5 on the charger and my computer is also on its charger, so I don't know why this would be an issue, either. I have always charged my phone this way and never had a problem until today.
I haven't been able to charge my phone since. What's going on with my computer?

Regarding the USB, see if zapping the PRAM helps.

Cannot sync my iPhone 5s, macbook usb is drawing too much power

I have a macbook pro, 2.8 ghz intell core i7 and a new iphone 5s. Each time i try to sync using the apple usb cord, I get an error saying that a device is drawing too much power and the usb has been disabled. Help! I am trying to get my pcitures on my phone and can't do it without sycning.

Cannot charge iPhone 5 because USB is "using too much power"

Last night I tried charging my iPhone 5 on my MacBook Pro and everything went fine. However, when I tried to do the same thing today, every time I would plug my device in I would get an error message saying that the USB device is using too much power and has been disabled. Is there anyway to override this so that I can charge my phone?

It'll still carry the Apple warranty. My suggestion would be to bring your Macbook along and show them, even if you go to Verizon. You're better off at the Apple store anyway. If it turns out the cable isn't the problem, the diagnosis is free at the Genius Bar and one way or the other your problem should be fixed. Just make an appointment first.

IPhone 2G random defect - "drawing too much power on USB"

About three weeks ago, my iPhone - which then still had firmware 1.1.4 - lost almost all its charge and "died". It looked impossible to get it charged, the red battery icon was the only thing it showed. Only thanks to a tip from another forum I managed to "revive" the phone: I left it connected to the wall charger for 9 hours, then switched it on simulating a DFU-restore.
I then did a complete re-install of the iPhone's software (did it twice just to be sure) upgrading it to 2.0 and subsequently to 2.01 which is on the phone now.
Starting last week, occasionally when I want to sync or to simply load the battery of my 2G iPhone (now with firmware 2.01), my MacBook Pro answers with the message "A usb device is currently drawing too much power" and then disables the port. I eliminated the doubt it could be a hardware problem, using three different USB cables and four different Macs: the problem presents itself everywhere.
Interestingly, 2 out of 10 times I am successful when I connect the iPhone via USB to the MacBook, eg right now it is charging and I did a sync.
I think the two events are somewhat connected. Apple Phone support says the event is "strange" but since the phone occasionally works, it is impossible to get the phone changed.
I would appreciate any idea about this. Is this a hardware problem or a software or formware thing? Or something else entirely?

MBP disconnects IPhone everytime saying the USB is drawing too much power?

Hi Guys,
Today I went and bought myself a new Mac Book Pro 13".
Tonight I've been transfering all my files over from my old MacBook and everytime I try to connect my IPhone 3GS by USB to my Mac a message comes up straight away saying "A device conected to your computer is drawing too much power, apple has disconected this device to prevent damage occuring to your computer"
I have tried to connect my phone numerous times while it has been conected to the power cord and also running on battery.
It also took my new Mac a good half an hour to recognise my external hard drive was connected and let me use it..
I have had this problem once or twice with the same IPhone and my old mac so im thinking it may be a problem with my phone considering it is 2 years old now?
But then again, my old mac that is nearly 4 can still connect to my phone when my new MBP can't.
Any help would be appreciated.

Try unplugging any other USB devices. If you are using a hub, don't, connect the phone directly to a computer USB port.
None of these are necessarily things you should do, but might help. For instance, if you plug the phone to an already busy hub, the phone might be "the straw that broke the camel's back" and lock out the hub.

Why is my iphone 3g drawing too much power through USB?

I have the same problem on my Air. The message first came up while my iPhone was connected to it for some time. Since then, it pops up ALL THE TIME, whithout anything being connected to the USB port, at what appear to be random intervals that vary between about one hour and a few seconds. I have tried resetting the SMC and the PRAM, but no results. A quick search revealed that thousands of users are facing this problem, but Apple has yet to provide a solution. Please help!

How to fix: "One or more of your USB device drawing too much power..."

Plugged my iPhone to do my usual download of photos off my phone into my iPhoto library so that I can edit them and post on eBay and Etsy. Suddenly, I'm getting the error message:
"Because a USB device was drawing too much power from your computer, one or more of your USB devices have been disabled."
I'm surmising that it's because my USB cord (connected from my iPhone to MacBook Pro) might be damaged. It's not charging correctly. Keeps going on and off when plugged into wall or computer.
So, will buying a new cord this solve the issue? I have to get one anyway so I guess I'll find out!
Meanwhile, for tonight I'll have to do just email the photos to myself. Ugh.

It should fix it. I would unplug all of your other USB devices from the computer and see if it continues with that error. If so, then certainly replace that cord (do it anyway since its having issues even in the wall)

Unplug whatever other devices you also have plugged into USB, and try again. Better not to plug the iPhone into a USB hub.

I recently got both an iphone 5 and a macbook air. im trying to take the songs off my old phone (iphone 4s) and get them onto my mac's itunes and then be able to sync them to my new 5. every time i plug in the 4s into the mac, it says that the USB is drawing too much power and has to be shut off. what should i do to recover my songs?

Are you using a usb hub or anything like that? If so, try without. Otherwise unplug everything from your mac and reboot with your iphone 4s plugged in and nothing else.

IPod Touch drawing too much power--disabling USB ports

I have a brand new Macbook, just picked it up less than a week ago. I've been hooking up my 2nd gen iPod touch to it for a while without any problems, but suddenly I started to get an error message every time I plug it into my USB port:
"*Because a USB device was drawing too much power from your computer, one or more of your USB devices have been disabled.* To prevent damaging your computer, the USB device drawing too much power has been disabled. Other devices may also have been disabled. When you disconnect the device drawing too much power, your other USB devices will be enabled again."
I've been looking all over the internet for a solution to this and I can't find a thing--it's really frustrating since this laptop's brand new and I have no other way of charging my iPod.
My laptop is plugged in while I'm doing this. The error message is instant--it seems to pop up before I've even inserted the USB cable all the way. Also, for what it's worth, I just did a test and I get the error message just by plugging the USB in, even if it's completely unattached to anything.

Had the same where as soon as i Plug my iPhone into the USB Port on my 2009 "Macbook Pro"

When you disconnect the device drawing too much power, your other USB devices will be enabled again."
(This is a Simple Fix)
Just Change the USB Cable.
I Just Happened to have a New USB/iPod/iPhone Cable Laying Around, so i Connected it and "Voila" everything was back to Normal.
