IPhone user in /local/Default

I just noticed, by chance that on my server that in running OD, a new user in the /local/Default directory has turned up. I would like to say it was never there before, but one can never say never.
It is a user ID of 213, short name of _usbmuxd
has a home directory of /var/db/lockdown
Anyone else seen this?

why does it need to create it's own user?
i don't particularly like having that done without mention or explanation in the installer's readme (i confess i might have missed it).
i know a few daemons have historically installed special users/groups, but that's not something i would expect from something like quicktime or itunes.

No, don't delete that folder or the files in it. Those files would be re-created the next time you open Firefox. Those files are necessary.
3. Firefox put that file there, so it knows its' there. Delete it and Firefox will download that data all over again, and put it back in that folder.
4. Bookmarks are stored in the '''places.sqlite''' file in the main Profile folder, since the Firefox 3 versions.
Some of those files have been moved around from one major version of Firefox to the next to improve various aspects of "performance" and also to minimize file size for automated personal data backup purposes & for roaming Profiles in a large network setting. The urlclassifier file can get to be quite large, which could really screw-up roaming Profiles on a network server.

System Image Utility / Automator Add User Account no default shell

I've noticed when creating a customized netrestore flow in System Image Utility for Yosemite, the result of the "Add User Account" action is a user missing a default shell. Noticed this when terminal kept closing as soon as it was opened. dscl -create localhost /Local/Default/Users/USERNAME UserShell /bin/bash fixed the issue but is obviously undesired for provisioning new computers. Any ideas how to configure a default shell for new users created in this way?

Solved by ensuring the add user account action immediately follows the define image source action.

I still have an iPhone, but haven't turned it on for weeks. And there's no SIM in it, so no cell service, just WiFi. When I turn it on after a prolonged period of having it off (weeks), a bunch of messages popup that should have been forwarded to my new phone (same phone number and carrier as when I was an iPhone user) but appear to sit in iMessage queue indefinitely instead.
I'm guessing it has to do with the link that's made when an iPhone first realizes that it's talking to another iPhone and defaults, for all future texts, to iMessage. You know, the green to blue switch. How does that association get undone?
Has anyone else seen this, and if so, is there a fix?

How to write file in user's local desktop

Hi,
Using the WriteFile action, i can write the file in inetpub/wwwroot in server.
Is there any way to write the file in user's local drive folder?
Although now i am writing the file to server and allowing the user to access it through URL but I suspect that there could be user concurrent issue or file contamination issue.
Constraint - The file should open with the default name.
If i try to open a local copy to the user (thru SaveasCSV() or URL) and allow the user to save the copy then the default name appear as Illumniator.

I think your current approach of saving to the web location and providing the user access via URL is the best approach. From a security standpoint I can't see that writing directly to a user's desktop/laptop would be a good idea.
If you are worried about naming or concurrency issues, then create sub folders that match their user name, or devise a naming convention that allows the objects to be unique between users and purpose.

Why are videos taken with a 4S suddenly not working properly when sent to non iphone users since the update?

Suddenly non I-Phone users cannot view videos anymore, they can hear the sound, but no audio. Iphone users are having issues viewing the videos too. This all started with the 6.0 update. Please fix it or tell me how to restore my phone back to the previous update, it is quite annoying.

It sounds like you are getting some audio issues with the included Ear Buds when they are plugged in. I wanted to recommend these troublehsooting steps from the article named:

3. Disconnect and Restart
Disconnect the accessory and turn it off, if possible. Restart iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad by turning it off and then back on. When the Home screen reappears, reconnect the accessory.
4. Isolate
Isolate the issue to the accessory, if possible. Or, if available, try to reproduce the issue with another identical or similar accessory.
Examples:
If there is static coming from the left audio channel when using headphones, try connecting the headphones to a stereo, or try connecting a different set of headphones to the device.
If the device is not syncing when connected to the dock, try connecting it directly to the computer using the Dock Connector to USB Cable, or try another USB port.
6. Restore iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
Restore iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to its factory default state. You should rarely need to use this step with an accessory issue. If the issue only affects a third-party accessory, contact the manufacturer before restoring the device.

Giving an OD Network User/Group local admin rights.

Is there a way to manage workstation admin rights from the server?
I ran into a problem with Lightroom that requires admin privileges to change the program preferences. We have alot of graphic art students with roaming profiles, spread out across 5 labs, that need to make this change. I would like to be able to add a group or all network users to the local admin group, for a few days, so the students can make the changes.

This works on 10.5, not sure about 10.6.
As root on the client.
Upgrading legacy group for local admin group - this is from 10.4 days, not sure if you still need to do it.

You would need to jailbreak in order to unlock and switch SIM card for local use. You would get everything except data I think but I am not sure. If you Jailbreak it will void your warranty. I do not know if you can unlock it without jailbreaking, most likely not with iphone. In your place, I would turn off data future off and use only wifi. Get international voice package and call sometimes for few minutes. If you need to talk more than 30 minutes in a one month then I would get another pay as you go cheap phone in another country to save money.

For a temporary fix, change your region? Get a 3rd party Calendar app that fits your needs?
I assume your current region is set in the photo?
If so, pick a region that has a start day of Sunday. (either historically or known for the present)
Note, with changing your region, it will change the default phone number prefix/country code for new contacts and addresses. (calling and SMS is not affected)

Changed from Iphone to Xperia Z1 and cant receive texts from iphone users

i recently changed from Iphone to Z1 but can not receive text messages from a lot of iphone users ( i can from some which i strange). i have turned off the Imessage setting on the old Iphone and let it sit for 30mins for apple servers to identify this. i have also done a software repair via PC Companion but still doesnt work.
any suggestions?

The thing is that your friends still using iPhone must remove you from iMessage. Otherwise you might end up with this problem.

Moved from iphone4s to samsung4s and now cannot recieve any email from iphone users????

I had to change my cel phone for work, IPhone4 to Samsung 4, Telus to Bell.
Now I cannot receive any test messages from ANY IPhone user. Their phone defaults to IM, not text.
I have de-registered my phone, turned off IM, but still no messages. Help

I have read all of these posts after switching from iPhone to galaxy s4 and this is the only process that I found to work:
Have iPhone user send you a text, it will send as imessage and you will not receive it. Have that user then long press the message text (blue text) and an option will pop up to send as sms text. Select it and it will send to your phone. The iPhone user has to do the send as sms text 3-4 times consecutively then it will learn to send that way by default. Has worked for 5 straight iPhone contacts so far.

IPhone layout reset to default

I was using my iPhone in a regular fashion, and quit out of an app, only to find that my entire home screen had been reset to the default arrangement. This I find to be very frustrating. Has anyone else had this happen to them.
I know there is a way to manually reset to default through settings, but I did not do this, and only became aware of it after researching how this could have happened.

If you haven't already, try restarting the iPhone by holding the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears> then slide to turn off> and turn the iPhone back on by pressing the Sleep/Wake again, as described on page 46 of the iPhone User Guide.

Most iPhone user's cannot receive text from me and my NEW Note 4

I chose to try the pre-installed +Messenger app from Verizon to be used rather than the fuctional default messenger. It wasn't what I expected so I switched back to the original message app. Well, that's when the issue's began with most of my contacts who use Iphone's.
I would send text to iPhone user's with no delivered confirmation text being returned as a notification. So I called them and they said they didn't receive a text. I realized the problem was a conflict with going back to the original messaging app/software.
Went to the Verizon store where I purchased the phone three times! The first salesman told me to have the iPhone user's to go into their text settings and turn on "Send MMS". That didn't resolve the issue. The second salesman called tech support and fixed the problem. Although I didn't know was done but, it was apparently a temporary fixed because it continued to happen
The 3rd salesman had to reset to factory settings and disabled/removed the +Messenger app from Verizon.
Still experiencing this stressful issue with my Note4.

Sorry to hear that! I tend to use the default Messages app more than anything else too.
I'm curious about your issue because you said "most iPhone users..." That can make the situation a little bit tricky, but it can also be used to your advantage, because if you compare the messaging/cellular settings on one iPhone that works and one that doesn't, you will likely find your resolution. I'd suggest looking at an iPhone that doesn't receive your messages and try to make the settings match the settings of an iPhone that successfully receives your texts.
Since it only happens with iPhone users the problem is likely not on your end; it's more than likely an issue with iMessage on the recipients' phone, but you can certainly try to deactivate your iMessage account (if you have one). Deregister and Turn Off iMessage - Apple Support. Bear in mind that this tool is usually used to solve issues that are the opposite of yours (iPhone users cannot send texts to you).

I have found that if I am trying to send an imessage to another Iphone user who has not upgraded to ios7, the messages will appear in my history as "sending". I deleted that contact history and tried to send another text and it worked as it was sending as a "green message" rather than a "blue message". Is there a way to work around this?

Thanks for the answer. Disabling iMessage does work, but it's a bit clunky to have to do that every time I want to message him. Many of my other contacts have iPhones and I like the iMessage feature.
He's had the same number for years and I only recently have had this issue, he doesn't have iMessage on any device, he only has an iPod nano. I wonder what happened that all of a sudden it has defaulted to iMessage for him.
Any other ideas?
