IPhone versus iTouch versus G1

I really love my G1 but am going back and forth as to whether to cancel my contract with T-Mobile, take the early termination hit but can make it back easily by selling the G1 online. Then I can pickup an iPhone and have an all-in-one product.
I currently pay about $75 month for the G1, this includes all services and data fees (I never text or IM). As I said, I don't make many calls at all. I use it mainly to surf, listen to music and screw around with the apps. Any idea what a plan may costs with the iPhone? And, more importantly, how fast is their G1 network?I have wifi at my house and also live in NY so my service provider, Optimum, provides free wifi whenever and wherever it is available, so using the wifi service with the iTouch is a no brainer.
Besides the lack of the phone capability, how many apps are available (not games), how fast does it surf the Net? I bought the G1 for a few reasons - my wife already was a t Mobile subscriber and for the G3 speed when surfng the Net.
The major problem with the G1 is that is does not synch with the USB port in my new car. I have a 2009 Civic EX and any of the newer ipods can easily sync with the USB port and I have tons of tunes, books, podcasts that I can listen to.

this is the iPod touch forum, you may get a better response re: tariff prices in the iphone forum.
at the moment you can have 9 pages of apps (16 apps per page, plus 4 'main' ones which are at the bottom all the time). probably worth bearing in mind that about 15 of these are the pre-installed apps, and as of yet you can't delete these.
if you meant how many apps are available, i have no idea, thousands and growing all the time!
i'm not sure about the speed, i think it depends on your network.

I have spent hours on the phone with Apple and AT&T. I went thought reset, on/off, etc, etc with both companies to no avail. Each company pointed fingers at the other....as being the source of the problem.

I assume now - iMessage kicked in and I could text (send/receive) other iPhone/iPad/iTouch users ONLY. ....yes, I could still (send) text messages to my husband's blackberry (he received my messages fine) but my phone would NOT receive his text respones.
Finally, I googled the problem and found this community where other people have had the exact same problems! One person said he "turned off 3 G" which was the solution for him....so I did the same and VIOLA! My problem solved! Nevermind the fact that I pay for 3G and cannot use it....so here's my question, if 3G is the problem on my phone is this an APPLE issue or a NETWORK problem? Do I purchase a new phone and slip in my same SIM card and hope the same does not occur or do I get a whole new SIM card and phone? What is the long term resolution to this problem?
I am happy however to find that my problem is NOT an isolated incident and wish Apple or AT&T had told me this is not so uncommon because I thought (based on the baffled response from Apple) that this has never occurred before. Where is Steve Jobs when we need him?

I had the same thing happen to me. It's a bug in iPhoto 9.4.2.
The first time you run iPhoto after upgrading to iPhoto 9.4.2, it "updates the iPhoto library". This sometimes tickles a bug where iTunes can see all your iPhoto albums, but iTunes thinks they are empty. Since iTunes thinks all your albums are empty, it dutifully deletes any photos from your synced iOS devices.
It's easy to tell if this is the problem you are seeing. Open iTunes and go to the photos sync panel for one of your iOS devices. If you have multiple albums checked, but iTunes shows a total of 0 photos, then you have the problem.
I spent an hour with an Apple Genius. he couldn't find any mention of this problem in their internal support system. His recomendation was to reinstall the operating the system. I suspect that this won't solve it.
The only solution I have found is to restore iPhoto 9.4.1 and the corresponding iPhoto library from your backups.
I would refrain from upgrading to iPhoto 9.4.2 until Apple has a fix for this issue.

Itunes doesn't recognize my iPhone 4, iTouch.....but recognizes my Apple TV

I know this question has come up many times in the past, but does anyone have any idea how to fix this? When I go to device manager, my iPhone or iTouch shows up as a digital camera. The frustrating part is that iTunes recognizes my Apple TV. Strange.
I have re-installed iTunes several times (even under a different admin account). Also, updated Apple mobile device driver several times. I even reverted back to an older version of iTunes to see if that would work, but to no avail.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Windows 7 x64 - iPhone and iTouch - iTunes Sync errors on new HP Dv8

PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
I just purchased a brand new HP dv8 laptop and cannot get my iphone or itouch synch. I get errors for both the iphone and itouch, but my Nano and shuffle are fine.
HP support said that this is a known issue and that the software is to blame so I should contact Apple support (of course).
SYMPTOMS INCLUDE:
- Phone is recognized on and off by the PC
- Will start to synch and and then I get one of many error messages (see below)
- If left plugged in, the phone will be recognized on and off by the PC (althought sometimes not at all)
SYSTEM INFORMATION:
iTunes version: itunes version 9.0.2.25 64 bit
OS: Windows 7 64 bit
Processor: Intel i7 processor
Computer Model: HPdv8
ERROR CODES:
- 0xE800006B
- The iPod "Steve's iPod" cannot be synched. An unknown error occured (-6999).

I'VE TRIED
- Uninstalling iTunes (and all the other Apple software components) 3 times
- Completely erased both my itouch and iphone
- Turned off the USB power management option to shut off a remote device
- Disabled Bonjour
- My itunes library and songs are on an external HDD but i tried a new local library and that did nothing
- Uninstalled each USB root hub and then restarted

4 days and no response...really??

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer.
Did you fail to back up your pics?
The photo sync is one way - comptuer to ipod.
You can e-mail them to yourself (instructions in the manual), but they will not be of the original quality.

Best Practice for update to iPhone and iTouch

OK, when 3.0 comes down the pike, what is the best way to get 3.0 as a "clean" install? Currently 2.2.1 is on both. If I do a restore, will the system only pick up 3.0 or will it see 2.2.1 which is currently on the hard drive? With that in mind, how can I delete the 2.2.1 version of the iPhone and iTouch software? Sorry for two question in one post.

When firmware update 2.0 was released, the entire iPhone was eraseed first including the existing firmware - just as when restoring an iPhone with iTunes, followed by 2.0 being installed, which was followed by the iPhone's backup being transferred to the iPhone.
The same may apply with firmware update 3.0 with your iPhone's backup being updated immediately before. If not, firmware version 2.2.1 will be updated with 3.0.
If 2.2.1 is updated and you want a "clean" install of 3.0, you can follow the initial upgrade by restoring your iPhone with iTunes.

When you connect your iPad or iPod to the Mac, click on the device name in iTunes - don't click on the arrow on the device. Then click on the Music tab in the main window pane. Now you should see 'Sync Music' and all your playlists, artists and albums. Here you mark the checkboxes for what should be synced.

It might be that you now need a new version of iTunes for the new version of iOS.

i have an iPhone 4 and we just bought an iTouch for my daughter. the advertisement material indicates we should be able to text or do facetime as long as there is a wifi connection. I can't figure out how to do it.
on the iTouch, when she tries to message, me she gets an error that i am not signed up for iMessage. from the iPhone, i can't see anyway to identify her. do i need another software to message her? the software that came with her iTouch looks like the same messaging software i use. i do know she was able to message her friend that has an iPhone.

With the iPhone, create a contact for the person with the iTouch. There will not be a phone number to enter like you normally do, but enter in the Apple ID for the iTouch user under the e-mail section of the contact.
When you go to message from iPhone to iTouch, just type in the contact name and it should message the iTouch via Apple ID.

This is something else you can try.
Go to Settings>WiFi>Your Network Name (tap the blue arrow)>Forget this Network. Reboot your iPad, hold down on the sleep button at the top for a couple of seconds until the red slider appears, slide to shut down. Then press the sleep button again until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button and the iPad will restart. Try to join your network again.

It is very possible that you may have some form of Wi-Fi interference that has appeared recently that is preventing your Time Capsule (TC) from providing a clean RF signal.
I suggest you perform a simple site survey, using utilities like iStumbler, or AirRadar to determine potential areas of interference, and then, try to either eliminate or significantly reduce them where possible. Look for other Wi-Fis that may be operating nearby. Note those with the strongest signals and which channels they are operating on ... then change the channel used by the TC to be at least 3-5 channels away.

Ready for this! My question has to do with syncing multiple calendars. Here are the details:
In our home we have the following products:
iPhone - Me
iTouch - My Wife (got it for free)
iMac - Both
Macbook Air - Me
Apple TV - Everyone
Airport Extreme - Everyone
MobileMe Account - Me
So, thus far we are LOVING life because everything syncs fantastic! My iMac syncs with the Macbook and with the iPhone and the iTouch. We keep all our calendars synced and clean and lovely!
Well, I want to confuse things a bit. You see I have this nasty PC Laptop for work that I have to keep all my work appointments on. And I think I would just DIE because of all the convienence if I could just add my work calendar to the rest of the stuff we have.
Back in the day I used a program called SyncWiz or something that worked great. Well, the tech guys got wize to me and put the kabosh on that so I can't export my Outlook calendar that way. Someone else gave me the idea of putting iTunes on my work computer and then hooking my phone up to it. Then by adding it to my iPhone it would trickle down to the rest of my iWorld via MobileMe.
Any thoughts? How do I add my work calendar to the rest of my iUtopian society we have going on in my house! WHY CAN'T WE ALL JUST INTEGRATE NICELY LIKE GOOD MACS AND PC'S!

Sadly there is no real method to keep calenders discrete on the iPhone unless your work account happens to use outlook exchange (as exchange and wireless mobile me synced data can actually sit next to each other).

You could theoretically get your work calendar onto mobile me... However it would also put your home calendar into your work computer (calendars can have subfolders of other calendars in outlook but outlook makes a mess of displaying them and you have personal data where your it guys would get suspicious). Sadly Mobile Me is Apple simple meaning all or nothing. It is not discrete
It sounds like a case of needing mobile me feedback requesting to sync specific data with specific computers instead of an all or nothing affair or iPhone feedback to allow both usb and mobile me syncing to be side by side like the exchange works.

Outside of that if your work provides you some sort of web based calendar access you may have to muddle by with safari.

ATV2, iMac, Windows 7 Laptop, Iphone and iTouch Connectivity

Hi all,
I am frustrated as ****. Here's the deal.
I am running an Airport Extreme basestation (AEB) home wireless network with full connectivity from all devices to the outside world. I have my main iTunes (10.1.2) library on my iMac (OSx 10.6.6) and my son has an iTunes (10.1.2) library on his Windows 7 laptop. I have home sharing enabled on the iMac, ATV2 and Win7 Laptop all using the same Apple_ID.
My iPhone 4 and Itouch Remote Apps (home sharing also turned on) will both connect to the ATV2 and to the Win7 iTunes library. However, while both see the library on the iMac they will not connect to it. I can also stream from the iPhone and iTouch over Airtunes to the AVT2.
My ATV2 will see both the iMac Library and the Win7 library but will only physically connect to the Win 7 library.
My Win 7 library can see the iMac library but won't connect to it, similar to the iPhone, iTouch and ATV2.
My iMac library can't see the Win7 library at all. However I can connect my iMac to the windows laptop for simple file transfer between the iMac and the windows laptop and I can also play music from the iMac library over Airtunes to the ATV2.
With all this connectivity going on I am at a loss as to why iPhone, ATV2, iTouch and Win 7 Laptop can all see the iMac library but won't make the connection to it when each one of those devices all work together perfectly fine and all devices are on the same AEB wireless network.
This must be something very small on the iMac/Itunes side?

No, Windows 7 Started edition only support USB connection. any network connection with your HP device is not supported due to limitations of the operating system:
