IPhone Video Mirroring

Does anyone (incl. Apple developers!) know when the iPhone OS will support mirroring on an external video display for ALL apps incl. FaceTime?  We've been waiting a long time for this!

you can take a look to the right under [More like this] which are posts about the same subject
but from what I've been able to read then the converters pretty much only works for charging and nothing else

I have an iPad 2 that I want to use with video mirroring to give lectures with. I bought a VGA Adapter for the iPad, iPhone, and iPod as I want to be able to connect with any TV, monitor or projector for lectures, not just an HD device.. After plugging in my iPad to the VGA adapter and then to the video device, it appears that there is no connection with the iPad. Anybody have any thoughts?
    Thanks, Steve

  • How to Video Mirror to my Iphone Projector

    Hello
I have bought the new iPad recently.
I have a projector for my Iphone 4s which i recieved as a gift
    http://www.brookstone.com/pocket-projector-for-iphone-4
I also recieved a dokc extender wire that I used to connect my iPad to my Iphone projector. It is 30 pin on both ends and supports video out.
So far I can't do true video mirroring. I can use video-out functions (videos, photos, youtube, select Video/out apps), but I am looking to reproduce the entire screen via my projector.
Do i need to turn something on true video monitoring or is there a very specfic cable i am missing? I was kind of hoping this would work. Its nice to have some limited video out functionality but the mirroring function was one of my selling points.
    I hope someone can help.
Also I am relatively new to the apple world...so don't be afraid to elaborate.
    Thank you.

I'm going to be honest, after I read your reply my first thought was to do the following
Buy the HDMI adapter, connect it to the ipad, then connect the hdmi wire,  then find another adapter to go from the HDMI out back to a 30 pin to connect the phone (while creating a mesh of wires)
    Silly? Absolutely
Infinitely cheaprer than the portable projectors out there? Absolutely

  • IPhone video has a strange FPS.

There has been a lot written about "choppy playback" of iPhone video once it's trasferred to another device.  It seems to me that the problem is in the frame rate used in the original video.  In Quicktime, I'm seeing an actual frame rate on playback of something like 18 FPS, when the file is stamped with 30 FPS.  When will this issue be resolved by Apple?  And for now, what is the best work around?  I've already begun experimenting with different settings during export from Quicktime.  Choosing iPhone as a setting creates a .m4v file, but the image size is greatly reduced, and the conversion is very time consuming.  Howeber the frame rate issue seems to be resolved--no  more choppy playback and the new file is playing back at a true 30 FPS (or maybe it's 29.97 but that's another topic).
It's been said before but I'll say it again:  it's beyond belief that Apple can release hardware and software that is this buggy!  Even for the most novice user, this is totally unacceptable.  They love to say "it just works".  Well it doesn't.
    Anyone with me on this?
    Peter

AFIK, this is all fairly late model Apple hardware and was top of the line when I bought it 3 years ago.  Also keep in mind I don't have any issues playing back any other HD content.  Only files created on the iPhone 4s.
It doesn't matter if I have other apps running or not--the symptom persists.
I've observed two seemingly identical video files created on my iPhone 4s (using Get Info in Quicktime all parameters are equal) where one plays smoothly and one has the jumpiness.  Other times a file that had been playing smoothly starts acting jumpy again after reopening.  Bear in mind, the jumpiness doesn't behave like a CPU being overloaded, but is a very regular rhythm--about a jump every second.  I would expect an overloaded CPU to produce more random symptoms during playback.  I'm now seeing the jumpiness even in the videos I exported using Picasa.  Keep in mind, I did not "upload to Picasa Web Albums" but just exported to another location on my internal hard disk.  The specs on the exported files look the same as the original including the data rate, which is 21.7 mbits/sec.  In other words, they were not optimized for streaming.  Why they played back smoothly before and not now is baffling.
Some have speculated that movies created with the camera upside down maybe have some extra data attached in order to play back in the correct orientation.  However in most cases my problem files were recorded "right side up" and still they have the jerkiness upon playback.
Finally, you state that 720p is the default iPhone image size but these files appear to be 1080 (progressive or interlaced I don't know).  Isn't that what 1920 x 1080 implies?  And again, the data rate is 21.7 mbits (is that the same as the bitrate, which you said should be 11 Mbps?).
Your help in this matter is greatly appreciated.

  • Pre Lion iPhone videos show Thumbnail but can't play - new video generates Unsupported Video Format popup, no thumb but will play via quicktime

    This is really frustrating -
Over the last year I have been uploading all of my photos and occasional iPhone video to Aperture 3 (latest version all patches in place).    Aperture would recognize the video, create a thumbnale and otherwise treat it nicely.
Now, since upgrading to Lion I find that though I can "see" the old videos in their folders or projects and the associated Thunbnale, I can't play them - I either get the spinning color wheel and then nothing or Aperture will crash and report an error relating to Quicktime (sorry don't have an error code at the moment).
If I try and export a video I can - but what I get also can't be played by Quicktime - just a black screen.  When I hit Play - the scroll bar moves, but there is no sound or video.
From Final Cut Pro X, I can imoprt this exported video file and see that it appears complete - but FCPX uses it's own playback elements.
If I shoot a new video on my iPhone, I find that I can see the thumbnale in the import option of Aperture when looking at the phone, but once imported I get a Popup telling me that it is an "Unsupported Video Format" - "Do you want to open this video clip with QuickTIme Player?"   If I hit Open then the clip does play, but the thumbnale remains a black square with the warning Exclamation Point.
I have also had some issues with Lion Mail crashing when trying to play a video made on an iPhone and sent to me via email.   Seems more likley to be a Lion / Quicktime issue then an Aperture and Mail issue - but who knows.
I spent 2.5 hours of quality time with the Genius bar this morning.  We reinstalled Lion and after that the suggestion was to trash and re-install Aperture, but that would require my disc and of coruse a trip home.   Mail doesn't seem to still have the issues with iPhone movies that it had - but Aperture is still not happy.
Did as instructed and dragged Aperture 3 to the trash, did the empty trash option, restarted and reinstalled.   Then did a software update to catch the new update for Aperture and it found that.   Interestingly when I did start it up after that it DID NOT ask me for my key - so clearly some elements were left over.
Now upon retstarting Aperture 3 once again I find that I can still see my old movies (their thumbnails show up) but I still can't play them.   The new test movie is there but still generates the popup regarding it being an Unsupported Video Format.
And it's not just my iPhone.   Video sent via email from another iPhone can play as an attachment, or when dragged and dropped to the desktop, but once imported into Aperture is once again proclaimed to be an Unsupported Video Format.
Hoping someone out there knows how to resolve this....

For some reason it just started to work now. Have no idea what didn't work before.

    File -> New Smart Abum
    Photo -> Is -> Movie

  • What's the best way to import and manage iPhone video?

I don't really want to use iPhoto for importing video - it doesn't seem like it's built with that in mind even though it's the default option for importing both photos and videos. It doesn't have very good (if any) options for filtering just videos or just photos, either when viewing or importing. And I don't want to have videos all jumbled in with photos in my iPhoto library.
I also don't really want to use iMovie every time I want to import videos. I know it's designed for video, but it's far more of an editing app than a management app and I don't want to be editing all my videos or loading up iMovie just to browse them.
I considered Clipstart but it commits a cardinal sin when it renames all my videos in the Finder to a sequential numbering that begins at 01.mov for each new day, creating hundreds and thousands of identically titled movies in the video library, albeit in their own folders, but chaos if you want to search in Spotlight or anything.
So I'm left with Image Capture, which gives me complete control of what I import and where it goes. The problem is that it too doesn't offer a filter for seeing just the videos or just the photos on my iPhone. My photos are all being imported automatically by Photostream so I only want to grab the videos. If I set 'view by width' it seperates out the videos because they have no width tag, but then they aren't displayed by date order so I can't easily find the new videos I've not imported before.
    So... what do you do?

That's exactly the sort of crafty workaround I like. I didn't know they were all tagged, but that would definitely work. I'd still love a dedicated app that did it really well, or more love given to that side of things in iPhoto. iMovie is too hefty for just managing them.
Is iPhoto properly built to handle management of iPhone video, by the way? I didn't want to use it because it didn't seem like it was, and also because I sync my iPhoto library with Dropbox and video would more than treble the size of the library so I manage it from the Finder mostly, importing clips to iMovie if I do want to edit something (rarely).

  • Is there any way to turn on Video Mirroring if my iMac display is FUBARed?

Okay, my iMac display is permanently frakked.
Nothing else is wrong with the system (the tech assured me, anyways). Haven't yet used Firewire Target Mode to check yet.
Regardless, I have all the proper cables and adapters--and external VGA monitor--but no way (that I know of) to turn video mirroring on.
If I can't get an external display working, I'll be out either $900 to repair the display or $3000 for a completely new system.
    Ideas?

    Tried it and no go.
    Not sure what's wrong.
Connect the VGA cord to the Mini-DVI-to-VGA adapter
    Connect to external monitor.
Boot up iMac with adapter attached. Cmd-F1. Nothing.
Boot up iMac with adapter unattached, attach after boot is finished, Cmd-F1. Nothing.
Repeat, using a different USB port for my keyboard. Nothing (x2).
Repeat again, using a third USB port for my keyboard. Nothing (x2).
If I'm not doing anything wrong**, I can only conclude the techie was incorrect and there is something else besides "just the display" that is wrong with the iMac.
**Is the monitor even connected correctly if I continuously get a "no signal" message? Or is that only because the mirroring isn't enabled?

  • How can you get your iPhone videos to compress to one video instead of 5 different frames?

How can you get your iPhone videos to compree to one video instead of different frames

It sounds like you to 5 separate videos. If you start recording, then stop it, then start it again, you will have 2 videos. Not 1. As for splicing them together, you will need a video editing package for your PC. I don't know if Windows Movie Maker (or whatever they're calling it now) can handle this or not. On a Mac, I'd say just use iMovie.

  • Video Mirroring

I'm looking for a way to toggle video mirroring on & off on an intel imac. My MacBook Pro has a dedicated key, but the Apple Wireless Keyboard does not. Does anyone know of a key command or an applescript that can do this?

I too would like to know an applescript way to toggle mirroring that does not involve system preferences launching.

  • I wish the ipad video player was the same as the iphone video player...

The ipad video player is not as good as the iphone video player.
I'm specifically referring to how it handles chapters and episode info.
    1 - episode info
With the iphone, when I'm looking at the list of videos, in addition to the show title, it displays the season and episode #.
With the ipad, it only shows show title.  And since episodes are for some reason sorted by show title, it's impossible to play the show back in episode # order, since it's not displayed...
    2- chapters
With the iphone, when a video with chapter marks is being played back, as part of the play controls, there is a chapter option so you can see what and where the chapter marks are and can easily go to them directly.
With the ipad, this chapter option is not there.  You can only get to a specific chapter by forwarding chapters one-by-one.
No idea why the two players can't have the same functionality.
Hopefully someone from apple can see this and consider it for a future update.
(is this the best way to get them info/suggestions for future updates???)

Actually, this is the best way to get feedback to Apple for this. Apple employees only moderate this forum for abuse and violations of the terms of use.

I don't see a option to burn. Please help and responses is greatly appreciated, I am a New macbook user.

  • Video mirroring in Mavericks not working

    Hi folks,
I have an Apple TV and I just downloaded Mavericks; I'd like to video mirror onto my AppleTV.
When I open up my system preferences , I can click on my displays icon. When I click on the checkbox for the video mirroring to show up in the menu bar, I can check the box,  but nothing happens in the menu bar. Needless to say, I cannot video mirror on my AppleTV.
    What am I doing wrong?

    Hello DaDrainer,
Thank you for the details about the issue you are experiencing when trying to use AirPlay Mirroring on your Apple TV.
I recommend reviewing the steps in the section titled "If the AirPlay icon doesn't appear" in the following article (you can skip the steps that refer to an iOS device since you are only experiencing the issue on your Mac):
