IPhone Video Problems

When i transfer video's to my iPhone they don't play the video it just plays the sound. it plays fine on my computer.

may want to verify that the video format you are using is mpeg4.. the iPhone won't do a typical VOB file from a DVD.. I take the VOB and run it through an iPhone converter program..it shrinks the file size and runs on the iPHone then..I use "Videora"

  • What's the best way to import and manage iPhone video?

I don't really want to use iPhoto for importing video - it doesn't seem like it's built with that in mind even though it's the default option for importing both photos and videos. It doesn't have very good (if any) options for filtering just videos or just photos, either when viewing or importing. And I don't want to have videos all jumbled in with photos in my iPhoto library.
I also don't really want to use iMovie every time I want to import videos. I know it's designed for video, but it's far more of an editing app than a management app and I don't want to be editing all my videos or loading up iMovie just to browse them.
I considered Clipstart but it commits a cardinal sin when it renames all my videos in the Finder to a sequential numbering that begins at 01.mov for each new day, creating hundreds and thousands of identically titled movies in the video library, albeit in their own folders, but chaos if you want to search in Spotlight or anything.
So I'm left with Image Capture, which gives me complete control of what I import and where it goes. The problem is that it too doesn't offer a filter for seeing just the videos or just the photos on my iPhone. My photos are all being imported automatically by Photostream so I only want to grab the videos. If I set 'view by width' it seperates out the videos because they have no width tag, but then they aren't displayed by date order so I can't easily find the new videos I've not imported before.
    So... what do you do?

That's exactly the sort of crafty workaround I like. I didn't know they were all tagged, but that would definitely work. I'd still love a dedicated app that did it really well, or more love given to that side of things in iPhoto. iMovie is too hefty for just managing them.
Is iPhoto properly built to handle management of iPhone video, by the way? I didn't want to use it because it didn't seem like it was, and also because I sync my iPhoto library with Dropbox and video would more than treble the size of the library so I manage it from the Finder mostly, importing clips to iMovie if I do want to edit something (rarely).

  • IPhone video H.264 will not play in iPhoto '11 Slideshow

    Hello,
I use iPhoto to organize videos and .jpgs; I take videos both with a Sony camera and my iPhone. I often trim videos in iPhoto and then play them as part of a Event or Album, along with .jpgs, using the SlideShow feature before moving on to iMovie or Keynote. Recently I have encountered difficulties with iPhone H.264 videos, particularly in vertical format -- they simply won't play in the iPhoto simple SlideShow and lock it up (a simple X then ends the SlideShow and iPhoto is no longer locked). The vertical iPhone videos work in iMovie if I simply move them there. I have not detected any problems with the Sony videos, which are invariably horizontal. I am not experiencing any other iPhoto issues although my library is >125GB.
         Any Suggestions?
        Thanks for your thoughts.

    léonie,
         @#$^$%^ Computers!
After I realized I could not determine the frame rate (to respond to your post), out of frustration I went back, restored the most troublesome video to original, closed iPhoto, re-opened iPhoto, re-trimed the troublesome video, and .... yep, you guessed it .... it worked fine. It had to be something in the trim process.
I haven't taken time to check the others that were problematic, but I'm confident that was the problem.
@#% how much of my time; how much of your time.....but, still far better than the years I spent watching a rotating hourglass.
Thanks for your interest, your offer to help, and my best to you. (And, my apologies for failing to include the accent grave in your name previously.

  • IPhone video upside down in FF4

When I put landscape iphone video to my .mac gallery is it upside down.
Looks fine in chrome and safari and imovie.
    I checked the web.
Some folks say that I should have taken the landscape video with the home button on the right (I did not).
Others say the problem is the quicktime plug in in FF4.
    Does anyone know for sure?
    Thanks.
    mac

In response to Rudegar, I already checked my original movie in different browsers:
    See where I said:
"Looks fine in chrome and safari and imovie."
In any case, I did what I should have done before.
I now made two very short movies, one with the home button on the right, one on the left.
Then I tested, and it indeed is FF 4.
All other browsers showed both movies fine.

  • Convert video into iPhone video?

I have a lot of videos that I'd like to send over to my iPhone.
Problem is that most (if not, all) do not open in iTunes so I they will not get transfered over to the iPhone.
Is there any free mac software out there that can convert almost any video format into iPhone (.mp4)?
    MacBook Pro & iPhone 8GB   Mac OS X (10.4.10)   2ghz Core Due

Open Itunes, then click on Movies in the Libray on the left panel. The drag your video in the box. If you have one or ten clips, you can highlight them all if you want. Go to Adavnce at the top and then drop down to Convert selection for Ipod and you are done. You may then want to delete to original file. This coverts your file to mp4 format.
You will have two files the same name. Highlite one of them and then hold control and click or right mouse click you have have a box open up, then go to info and read the summary and it will tell you which file, either Quicktime or mp4. Highlite the QT file and hit delete. There you have it. Good Luck.

  • Editing iPhone Video

    Two short questions:
    1. What is the best thing to do when you end up with a bunch of clips at different frame rates?
    2. When importing video shot on the iPhone into PPCS4, why does Premiere place the video on track one, and force the audio to track 2?
iPhone video is 640X480, 4:3 and produces .MOV files with the h.264 codec.  The frame rate it produces depends on the lighting - lower light, lower frame rate.  There is no manual override for any of these settings.  So, I shot several clips and they range from 15 to 30 FPS.
On question 2, this is not exlusive to iPhone produces quicktime files, I've seen it before when importing from other sources.  The iPhone produces a mono audio track, I wonder if that's the problem.

the audio problem was indeed, it need a mono source track.  I couldn't find a way to change the track, so I just added and deleted.
This is correct. The user cannot directly change the designation of the Audio Track. Deleting "Empty Tracks" will take care of it for you.
My default setup for a Sequence is 2 mono, 3 stereo and a 5.1 Master. Should I not need those mono Tracks (SFX for me), I just delete them from the Sequence.
In PrPro, one cannot drag Tracks, Video, or Audio, one must either plan ahead, or use the Delete/Add Tracks, to get things neat on the Timeline. Some NLE's do allow one to drag Tracks, but PrPro does not.
The project itself has a defined framerate, so doesn't this basically convert it (even before export)?
Not directly, but Interpret Footage will do this for you. In CS4, one can do separate Sequences, with different specs/Presets. Earlier, on was stuck with one setting per Project, and ONLY Intrepret Footage would help. For me, I will always convert, outside of PrPro and then Import, but that is my personal workflow.
And, what happens to the clip when you up-convert?  It seems that it's just adding frames, for example going from 15 to 30 its' just going to make two of each. That makes for some choppy video.  And finally, how does one make the conversion before hitting the timeline with the clip, and what is the benefit?
This will depend on how much conversion is needed. I use DigitalMedia Converter, and it's quite good. In the end, the editor is the final judge. I'd suggest trying it both ways, and testing what is best.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Importing & Editing iPhone Video, but end result horrible Quality?? Why?

I imported a few videos from my Iphone to edit in PE7. After editing and rendering, the resulting video looks like crap compared to original. I did a test run of a short clip with no editing whatsoever and rendered as a MPEG2 to upload to a webpage and it still looked horrible compared to the original. The iPhone files are Quicktime .MOV video files. Ive had no other problems before with other sources and just wondering what Im missing. Ive tried googling and cant find any help. Thanks.

There is no project preset for 1080p24 in Premiere Elements 7. It is not until Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1 that we do find the opportunity.
    NTSC
    DSLR
    1080p
    DSLR 1080p24
So, what to do with a 1080p24 (Stereo audio) and Premiere Elements 7 and end up with a 1080p24 export to file saved to the computer hard drive.
    (1) Import with the project preset of
    NTSC
    AVCHD Full HD 1080i30
The prime objective of the project preset is to direct the program to set up the 1920 x 1080 space in the Edit area monitor. This project preset will serve that purpose until you want to do frame by frame by frame editing which you are unlikely to be involved in.
    (2) When it comes to export the 1080p24 Timeline content
    Share
    Personal Computer
    MPEG
    with Presets = HD 720p
then under the Advanced Button/Video Tab, customize the Export Settings to look exactly like what you see in the screenshot below: If the screenshot does not present clear enough, please click on it to bring up a clearer view.
Please check out my blog post on Premiere Elements 24p features.

Now with regard to what you seem actually to have....
    1. Both cell phones (iPhone 5 and 5S) are probably giving you 1080p with a variable frame rate up to 30 frames per second. Depends often on the lighting during video recording with the device.
    a. If you are having problems with this video, then take it into HandBrake before importing it into Premiere Elements 7 in order to change the variable frame rate to a constant one. The MediaInfo video audio properties readout program will give you the minimum, mid range, and maximum frame rate used in recording the video. Go with the mid range reading.
    http://handbrake.fr/
MediaInfo | Free software downloads at SourceForge.net
Even the latest Premiere Elements versions can have problems with variable frame rates of cell phones and those other devices that work with a variable frame rate.
    b. Let us assume that you have a 1080p with the mid range 24 progressive frames per second used for these cell phone recordings.
Import the 1080p24 with the constant frame rate into Premiere Elements 7 with the project preset cited in example above.
    c. Then use the export route that I described in the example above.
If your iPhone videos have frame rates other than 24 progressive frames per second, we can discuss them individually.
Do any of your source videos for these project need rotation. Other topic for discussion. For now, the above principles should apply to your video. Handling of portrait oriented video in a landscape oriented video is other topic for discussion. But, let us see how you work through the above.
    Thanks.

  • Iphone videos sent via mms are crap. Why?

I want to know what the heck happened and who dropped the ball on iPhone video MMS. It gets compressed to the point where it is completely unable to be made out. Not to mention there is no zoom option. Maybe I could understand if you're sending a video to someone without an iPhone and the quality is poor, but even iPhone to iPhone its the same. I think its totally ridiculous for a phone that is suppose to be so great... I'm tired of getting videos that I can't even see a facial expression just a blob on the screen. One other thing I would like to know. Why is it that phones I had before the iPhone was EVEN out had better video MMS capabilities?? Its just BS.
Apple should fix this problem with all iphones old and new... I have the iPhone 4 32gb and I BET this problem was overlooked again with the 4s!
    Signed - Obviously Aggravated.

Sending an iPhone video via email doesn't change the quality... It is still a pixelated mess. I'm thinking carriers have nothing to do with it. Plus it still doesn't explain better quality videos I've experienced with previous phones using the same carrier. (I have to use a downloaded app to make videos crisp quality then upload it to the computer) It's the phone.

try this and see if it works: connect your iPhone and open up iTunes on your PC. Go to your phone's page. Under Summary page, check manually manage music and videos.

  • Importing from iPhone video camera?

I'm about to start a an audio/video project and wanted to just put this out there for some advice.  3 Camera iPhone 4 shoot, 1 prerecorded audio track. Not planning on using the audio from the iphones.  I've never imported iPhone video into FCE. Any suggestions? Any know problems with this? I'm planning on doing it all in HD. Then syncing the video to the audio track. (The audio track is just an Mp3.) Will this just be super easy and straight forward? I've done this same thing with Canon Vixia HD cameras before and it was no problem. Does the iPhone present any particular issues?
    Thanks

Thanks Tom. (BTW, love your book!)
So, how do I convert these files? I've always just dragged things into the timeline before, then rendered them, but I don't want any funny business. Is there a specific way I should prepare these files before I bring them into the project? I'm always a bit confused by this and have had some bad experiences with projects that looked squashed or stretched.
    Thanks for your input!

  • Transferring iPhone video to Computer

I was finally able to transfer photos/videos from my iPhone 4 Camera Roll to my PC (Windows XP) using Apple Article #HT4083. My issue is that videos under 1 min copied over, but videos over 1 minute get stuck in the transfer process and I end up having to "Skip It" in order to finish the process. Also, once my < 1min iPhone videos transfer over to my iPhotos file under the 'MY PICTURES' folder on my computer, how do I properly transfer them back into my iPhone in the photo albums I choose using iTunes? I moved some of the videos into the folders I created under 'MY PICTURES' along with the photos, but during the Sync process in iTunes, only the photos were transferred back to my iPhone in the newly created album folders, not the videos.

Why should Apple include a utility for this just for Windows users? This is something Microsoft should include with Windows, and I'm pretty sure they do.
There are a number of digital cameras that support capturing photos as well as video. I have a Canon digital camera that I purchased at the end of 2003 which I continue to use that supports capturing photos and video, and I've always used iPhoto for the import, which is included by Apple with OS X.
If the Windows Scanner and Camera Wizard doesn't provide for importing videos that were captured by your iPhone, the driver for your webcam may be the cause of the problem. Have you confirmed if the driver for your webcam is up to date along with all other Windows drivers?

  • Trouble importing Iphone videos

The Premiere Elements learning curve is a serious matter. Nothing to be taken lightly or taken for granted. Every question is important, small or large. Never hesitate to ask a question. Every answer is always obvious once you have been there and done that. I often reflect on "the measure of a smart person is not what he/she knows but rather what he/she knows that they do not know". All that said, let us move forward zealously to get you moving forward with your project with some fine tuned communication.
I have gone back and reread your whole thread. I think the light bulb may have lit here and that I bypassed the following.
When  I  open  the  Organize  and  view  videos  section  that  is  supposed  to  show  ALL  my  imports.
All  that  are  fully  showing  are  the  pictures...  ALL  The  Videos  are  located  in  a  "BLANK"  box  on  that  same  screen.
Again,   If  I  select  the  "make  movies"  option   the  videos  are  able  to  be  dragged  down  to  the  timeline,  where  they  fully  appear. However,  I  cannot  view  them  in  the  selection  area
On my re-read of your thread, it appears that your blank box is not in Project Assets in the Expert workspace of Premiere Elements 12 Editor. It is in the Elements Organizer 12 which is part of Premiere Elements 12. Is that correct? If it is,
    a. if you double click the blank thumbnail in that Elements Organizer 12, can you play back the video file there?
And, what you are saying is that when you open this Elements Organizer 12 blank box in Premiere Elements 12 Expert workspace, you see the video and hear the audio just fine. Is that what is going on?
Video thumbnail problem in the Elements Organizer is a frequent report. That is why details, such as the file extension of the file involved, are so important along with the other properties of the file.
One way around this is to use Premiere Elements 12 Expert workspace Add Files and Folders (from computer hard drive) to get your file into Project Assets from where you drag it to the Timeline. Does that work for you?
Before I go on and on, let us see if we are in sync on this.
Your help on this is appreciated.
    Thanks.

  • IPhone video specifications

I downloaded a TV show from iTunes that has a resolution of 853x480.
According to the iPhone tech specs, 640x480 is the maximum resolution allowed for iPhone video.
However, iTunes allows me to sync it with my iPhone.
I have my own personal video that is 720x480 (in Quicktime format).
iTunes will NOT let me sync it with my iPhone. To make it iPhone friendly, iTunes lowers the quality to 640x426.
How come iTunes has no problem syncing the 853x480 video? It clearly breaks the limit set in the Tech Specs.

have you tried the 'create iPod or iPhone version' in iTunes? first, click on a video file and then click on 'advanced' in the menu bar, and select 'create iPod or iPhone version'. does that help?

  • IPhone video has a strange FPS.

There has been a lot written about "choppy playback" of iPhone video once it's trasferred to another device.  It seems to me that the problem is in the frame rate used in the original video.  In Quicktime, I'm seeing an actual frame rate on playback of something like 18 FPS, when the file is stamped with 30 FPS.  When will this issue be resolved by Apple?  And for now, what is the best work around?  I've already begun experimenting with different settings during export from Quicktime.  Choosing iPhone as a setting creates a .m4v file, but the image size is greatly reduced, and the conversion is very time consuming.  Howeber the frame rate issue seems to be resolved--no  more choppy playback and the new file is playing back at a true 30 FPS (or maybe it's 29.97 but that's another topic).
It's been said before but I'll say it again:  it's beyond belief that Apple can release hardware and software that is this buggy!  Even for the most novice user, this is totally unacceptable.  They love to say "it just works".  Well it doesn't.
    Anyone with me on this?
    Peter

AFIK, this is all fairly late model Apple hardware and was top of the line when I bought it 3 years ago.  Also keep in mind I don't have any issues playing back any other HD content.  Only files created on the iPhone 4s.
It doesn't matter if I have other apps running or not--the symptom persists.
I've observed two seemingly identical video files created on my iPhone 4s (using Get Info in Quicktime all parameters are equal) where one plays smoothly and one has the jumpiness.  Other times a file that had been playing smoothly starts acting jumpy again after reopening.  Bear in mind, the jumpiness doesn't behave like a CPU being overloaded, but is a very regular rhythm--about a jump every second.  I would expect an overloaded CPU to produce more random symptoms during playback.  I'm now seeing the jumpiness even in the videos I exported using Picasa.  Keep in mind, I did not "upload to Picasa Web Albums" but just exported to another location on my internal hard disk.  The specs on the exported files look the same as the original including the data rate, which is 21.7 mbits/sec.  In other words, they were not optimized for streaming.  Why they played back smoothly before and not now is baffling.
Some have speculated that movies created with the camera upside down maybe have some extra data attached in order to play back in the correct orientation.  However in most cases my problem files were recorded "right side up" and still they have the jerkiness upon playback.
Finally, you state that 720p is the default iPhone image size but these files appear to be 1080 (progressive or interlaced I don't know).  Isn't that what 1920 x 1080 implies?  And again, the data rate is 21.7 mbits (is that the same as the bitrate, which you said should be 11 Mbps?).
Your help in this matter is greatly appreciated.

  • Mini DVI to VGA Adapter Video Problem

This year at Randolph-Macon College we replaced the Math lab Emac computers with IMac G5 Intel machines. The laboratory has an NEC model MT1050 projector with a manufacturer’s date of August 2002. We can not seem to get rid of ever present scan lines. We can slow them down and speed them up by adjusting resolution and refresh rates, but nothing will remove them. We are connecting the IMac to the projector via the Apple Mini-DVI to VGA Adapter. It is specifically designed for use with the iMac (Intel Core Duo), and the adapter connects to the Mini-DVI port of the computer and the VGA end of the adapter to an external VGA monitor or projector.
Troubleshooting the problem we have swapped IMac Intel computers with no luck, but we still have to use the Apple Mini-DVI to VGA Adapter. When we hook the projector to a Intel Mac Book Pro, we have to use a different adapter, but then it works perfectly. In fact, everything we try using other adapters works fine, it’s just when we use the Apple Mini-DVI to VGA Adapter that we experience the video problem.
Has anyone experienced this problem and if so, have you been able to remedy it?
iMac (Intel Core Duo)   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I don't have much to suggest, except to ask if you can try with a different mini-DVI to VGA adapter. (i.e. do you have more than one on hand to make sure yours isn't just defective?) Make sure it is firmly seated into the iMac.
I use the same adapter to provide an extended desktop on an old CRT monitor and the display is great.
