IPhone vs. Video iPod battery life & sound

For those that have used both, which will play video the longest - iPhone or Video iPod?
Also, which is loudest? I use the Video iPod on flights with noise cancelling earphones but find it is still not loud enough. Would the iPhone be louder in this case?
Thanks,
Brett

  • HELP WITH VIDEO IPOD BATTERY LIFE

i recently purchased an ipod for my birthday and im very dissapointed in the battery life. can any1 tell me any tips to making a battery last longer? and ive noticed that it doesnt always charge up to full.
    please help, thanks

One thing you might want to try is letting your
batter die completely until your iPod won't even turn
on, and then recharging it fully. When you keep
recharging li-ion batteries when they do not need to
be, like when they're still half-charged, they will
burn out a lot quicker. The best thing is to
completely drain it each time before you recharge it.
Actually, that's the opposite of what I've heard. I heard it's better not to completely drain the battery before you recharge, and only do a full dischage every 30 charges or so to keep the battery fresh.

  • My iphone is currently using battery life much more quickly than inthe past, and it also has an icon tht is starying on the screen, to the left of the battery charge percentage, that looks like a lock with a circle around it

i have an iphone that is using battery life much more quickly than in the past, a full charge is going to zero in a half a day or so, with out much use.
an icon is also appearing next to the charge percentage in the top right, and the icon is a circle around a lock
can anyone tell me what the problem is, and what the icon means?

The Icon meas your display orientation is locked to vertical so it wont change when you turn the phone sideways.
First thing you should check with the battery life is multitasking, which also happens to be where the orientation lock can be turned off.  check out   http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4211 and go from there

Try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again. You will not lose any data by resetting, but it can cure some glitches.
If this does not help, setting it up as new device without using any backup would be the next step:
Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings - Apple Support

  • IPhone 4S . Short battery life daily.

My Iphone 4S was purchased about 1.5 years ago. Until recently the battery life wasn't bad, but over the past couple of months, the battery drains markedly over the course of a day. I do not have apps refreshing in the background, and I close apps when not using them. I keep GPS off when not using apps that need it, and keep the backlight pretty low. I'm doing all I can to keep the battery from draining, but it's getting pretty bad.

It could be a hardware (battery) problem or software related (e.g. a rogue app) like i had with my 2 year old iPhone 4S.
Read the blog post to determine if it is a hardware or software issue (usage time is equal to stand-by time).
In my case a rogue app which i had on my iPhone 4S already since iOS7.04 caused the drain after an update to IOS7.0.6. and still with iOS7.1 I removed the app and now my iPhone is fine again with iOS7.1 and now iOS7.1.1. ever since.
Question 1) Did you read the blog post i mentioned?
Question 2) Does your iPhone have the exact same Usage time as Stand-by time or not (see Settings > General > Use > ..)?
If this usage time is not exactly the same as the stand-by time then  it could be that it simply is a hardware issue (battery itself) and not software (iOS) related.
Question 3) What kind of settings do you have on your iPhone e.g. the below things could cause a huge battery drain ever since the recent iOS release can still run in the background (if you have 'refresh in background' or GPS turned on for some apps).
We have two iPhone 4S phones and we have an average battery time of 1-1,5 day (when using it for e.g. a few calls, texts, mail, news apps and a short video for e.g. total of 3-4 hours) or even 2 days (if i don't use my phone much almost 90% stand-by time) and with WIFI connecting for about 90-95% of the day and ofcourse phone network but no 3G.
Aside from that we have the following settings which could save a lot of battery:
    - bluetooth off
    - screen brightness set to approximately 30%
    - fetch e-mail accounts once an hour (Settings > E-mail, calendar .. > deselect 'Push' and set it to either Fetch e.g. once an hour)
    - do not refresh any apps in the background (Settings > Refresh apps on background)
    - apps that use GPS are limited (Settings > Privacy > Location tracking)
    - only have a few apps (5-10) that are allowed to send push notifications
    - only have a limited amount of apps to send messages to 'Notification center' or e.g badgets/strips/sounds/apps symbol or on your 'Access screen' (See Settings > Message center > check settings per app)
I think that 3G uses more battery then WIFI so if you have WIFI access then use that instead of 3G.

  • Video iPod Battery

Hey I got my 5g iPod a few months ago, and it's been working fine until recently. I recently bought a Belkin TuneCast II Mobile FM Transmitter (http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?MerchantId=&Section_Id=201526&pcount=&ProductId=166893) and the Belkin Mobile Power Cord w/ Dock Connector (http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=164964#) to go with it. Anyway, the Power Cord charges the iPod while it's plugged in. And it seems that ever since I got that, I've been having trouble with my battery. I'll plug in my iPod when I'm driving and it will be fully charged when I take it out. Then I'll just set it down and leave it alone while I sleep or something. Then when I turn it on the next morning, the battery is either in the RED or it's completely dead. I was just asking if this is probably a problem with the iPod or the Belkin charger. Because before I had the Belkin charger, I used the regular cable that charges from the computer and my battery life was normal. Is it the Belkin?

  • IPhone 4S - really bad battery life or faulty?

Hi! I have an iPhone 4S (16GB, black).
Ever since I have had it, I've had to charge it everyday.
To try to improve the battery life, I've done everything I know of like turning off WiFi/Bluetooth, turning down the brightness, turning off push mail (so only when i launch the Mail app, it connects to my email), I've only switched on what I use on iCloud like Calendar sync, Find my iPhone; i've turned off push notifications for apps I don't need it for, set auto-lock to 1minute, and have switched off location services for apps I don't need it for, and I made sure there is no EQ setting on the iPod/music app.
I also force-quit big apps I'm not using - I don't have a lot of apps compared to some people I know - only 19.
But with all of that, my battery usage only goes up to about 3 hours, 30 minutes. I once owned an iPhone 4 (which I sold because I wanted to switch to Android... then realised I felt lost without an iPhone so bought an iPhone 4 ha), but the battery usage on that used to last like 5 hours! My old iPhone 3G was about the same too.
But why is it so bad? I know it's got Siri, but I don't use that a lot.
I've also noticed on some occassions, the phone switches off when it still has 10% battery life left! When I try turning it back on at 10%, it comes up with the no battery icon - I did manage to turn it back on by pressing the on/off button and home button, but it likes turning off then! Yesterday, it took about 2 minutes to go from 10% to 5%, then was stuck on 2% for about 30 minutes.
When I go cycling, I use a GPS app (Cyclemeter). The iPhone 4 battery went down by about 10% when I used it (about 1 hr cycle ride), and the 4S goes down by like 25% !! - i don't leave the screen on either - it's just in my pocket using the GPS.
Could there be a fault with my iPhone/battery? Or is it just that the 4S is like this?

I have the same issue.  I have a iPhone 4S and the batter life was great under 5.0.  Then 5.0.1 came out and its been horrible.  Sometimes I can get upwards of almost 5 hours of usage, but lately I can't break even 4 hours of usage over a period of 24 hours.
Apple's software dept was supposed to issue a fix for this but they never did.  I'm pretty much done with this horrible company.  They are beginning to think they are God's gift to the digital community and a dose of humble pie would be nice for them.  And it will catch up if they keep ignoring us.  iOS5 has been the most broken and fragmented OS apple has EVER  put out.  Thank you for that Apple.

  • Poor ipod battery life

My ipod touch 5th gen gets terrible battery life, even with brightness all the way down, and the do not disturb and airplane mode and wifi on, please help

How long does a full charge do after charging for four hours?
What is the iuPoid donig during that time?
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Speakers with Alarm and iPod Battery Life

    Hello everybody,
I am thinking to buy speakers with alarm for my wife's iPod video (30G). I have the following concern though. Since such kind of accessories charge iPod once I connect it, is it going to shorten the battery life due to frequent charging? Or is there any way to somehow disable charging if the battery is still OK?
    Thank you.

  • 30gig ipod battery life?

just got a new ipod 30gig with video and all that jazz...in black ooo looks very sexy. but the battery life doesnt seem to last very long, whats the offical time its suppost to last? becuase its not going very long. anyone got any ideas?
    thanks

It depends how you use the iPod. The backlight, equalisers, album art etc all eat up a certain amount of battery. If you watch even a small amount of video, it eats up your battery too.
If you're genuinely concerned about it, run a test:
Disable any equaliser settings you have, disable the backlight, turn off the view album-art option and set it to "Shuffle Songs". Sit a stopwatch next to your iPod and hit go.
The first few charges of a brand new iPod battery will give you a lower playback time than subsequent charges. If you try the above and get significantly less that 14 hours, you should maybe give Apple a call. If not, you just need to decide what features are important to you and decide on the tradeoff between them and your battery life.

  • Is it preferrable to use iPhone 5 to accommodate the new iOS 6 than maintaining my current iPhone 4S? The battery life is not that good after updating my iPhone 4 S to iOS 6.

I've updated my iPhone 4S with the latest iOS 6 but battery life had never improved as I expected. A friend of my had recently replace his iPhone 3GS with iPhone 5 and both us compared our simillar daily usage of browsing, emails with attachments (work related), messaging (via iMessage, WhatsAppa, WeChat) games, facebook, tweet, uploading, etc, it seems that iPhone 5 last longer by 35-40% compared to my iPhone 4S. By. The time he hits 60-55% on his iPhone 5, my iPhone 4S Is less than 15%... My Questions to the community or any Apple Consultant, is it preferrable to replace my beloved iPhone 4S with iPhone 5 in order to accommodate the performances of iOS 6 and the "coming soon" iOS 7? Is it a practise to replace every iPhone when there's a new iOS update? Please advise.

It largely depends on how much money you are prepared to spend.
Your question is much like asking "I have last year's model car.  This year, the car has some new features.  Should I trade in last year's model and get this year's?"  Well, maybe.  It's your call.
Each newer generation introduces some new features and capabilities.

  • Problems with ipod battery life AND new software

First of all, I'm not 100% sure if my ipod is fifth generation... it's a 30 GB and I've had it since December 2006. This just seemed to be the only category it fit into.
But here we go: I have two major problems with my ipod that have arisen in only a period of a couple days.
First of all, my battery life suddenly got REALLY REALLY bad. I know there are already a bunch of threads with people complaining about their battery life, but mine is much worse. The battery life did progressively get a little worse over the past few weeks, but it was nothing major. But I turned my ipod on the other day, RIGHT after fully charging it, mind you, and within 2-3 minutes the battery was halfway discharged and in about 5 minutes it was almost dead.
And a couple of times, I had my ipod plugged into my iBook to charge, and the iBook went into sleep mode because I left it alone for a while. But after a couple hours I came back and the battery level was LOWER than when I plugged it in!!!! What's going on with this thing?
And then to make matters worse, I finally broke down and downloaded the new ipod software the other day (sorry I can't remember the version, but it's the most recent). Everything seemed OK until I turned on my ipod the next day. With the old software, when I would select "Music>" and then "Artists>" it would go to the list of artists like it's SUPPOSED to.
But now, when I select "Artists>" it then goes to a list entitled "Artists" and my ONLY option is "All>". If I click "All>" then it takes me to a second list called "All Albums" and my only option again is "All>". When I click it again, it takes me to a list called "All Songs" with NOTHING in it. At first, I was afraid the update had deleted all the music off my ipod, but I plugged it back into my computer and according to iTunes, everything was still there as if nothing had happened.
Is there anything I can do to remedy either of these problems? I am so frustrated with this thing, considering both of these things happened rather suddenly and the fact that my ipod is not even a year old and it's not like I've been abusing it or anything.

I've had both exact problems (listed below) within days of each other just like you. This is extremely effing frustrating and it appears Apple isn't doing sh|t about it.
Problem 1: Battery constantly discharges even when ipod is turned off.
Problem 2: After upgrading firmware to 1.2.2, all my content (songs, podcasts, everything) was gone.
I'm glad to say I was able to fix problem 2 after reading about reverting back to version 1.2.1. There are instructions in this forum on how to do it. If you are like me, you'll have to download the 1.2.1 files from Apple's website because they were no longer on my computer.
This dieing/dead battery problem is a major effing pain in the a$$. Like you say, the effing thing is dead after minutes. The only way it can be used for any length of time is to leave it plugged in to a charger.
No one seems to have a solution which is even more upsetting than the problem. Hey Apple, I want my money back!

  • Why is my battery life so bad on my iphone 4s. I signed up for a 2 yr contract with a new iphone 4s. The battery life didn't last a day. I went back to Apple and they replaced it with another iphone 4s. This one is just as bad. The iOS 5.0.1 does nothing!

I have never been so disappointed with an Apple Product such as the Iphone 4s. When I signed up with a new 2 year contract, I received my iphone 4s. I charged it fully the night before, then it didn't even last the day (with minimal usage). I turned off Location Services, Wi Fi, and Bluetooth, this helped a bit. But what is the point of turning these services off, when I NEED THEM!!!  The wonderful new Siri doesn't work properly without Location Services turned on.
So I upgraded to the iOS 5.0.1. version - that did absolutely nothing to assist the battery life.
Apple, what are you going to do about it?  My new Apple phone is a LEMON!
If I had of known how bad the battery life is on the iphone 4s, I would have got a Samsung Galaxy 2!!!!!

It doesn't really matter whether I am talking to Apple or not (and I'm sure they monitor these comments), I want everyone to know how bad this new iphone 4s is, and all of it's problems.
Apple have already launched an upgrade to the software - it obviously did not help, as many around the world would concur.
As far as being patient and waiting for another "update in the works" is concerned, it is just not satisfactory. This is not a cheap phone, and those who are experiencing these problems, should not have to be paying a substantial amount of money, for a very smart phone, that obviously, has some serious problems.
