IPhone wants to update an app I don't have installed

The App Store shows I have an app that needs to be updated. However, when I tap on the App Store icon, it shows an app that I've never downloaded and is currently not on my iPhone.  The name of the app is "This Morning with Gordon Deal.". HELP!!!!

Very odd. If the app is not on your device, you of course cannot delete it. If iTunes believes the app is on the device and there is an update for it, the update flag will trigger.
I don't know if this will work but have you tried hiding the app on your iTunes account? You can only hide App purchases using the PC running iTunes. As far as I know, it cannot be done on the device itself. See the following page for info on hiding purchases.
iTunes Store: Hiding and unhiding purchases - Apple Support
Again, I don't know if hiding a purchase will prevent it from triggering an update if the system believes the app is on the device. You'll have to try it and see.
Another option may be to backup the device using iTunes. Manually backup any media as well. Then restore the device using that backup. Does the system still believe the app is on the device? If so, that phantom app is also likely contained in that backup. Your only other recourse is to restore the device as new. Then install an app or two (not the phantom app) from the App Store and see if the app is still being shown by the system as being on the device. If it is, it's likely something screwy regarding your iTunes account. If it does not show, then you may want to continue and rebuild your device up from scratch, using your media backup.

  • App Store sends updates for Apps I don't have.

App Store keeps offering me updates for Apps I don't have installed on my iMac.
    e.g. Angry Birds.
If I click to Update I get a message "Update Unavailable with This Apple ID".
How do I remove the update and prevent further updates being offered?
    iMac OSX 10.10.1

Thank you for this information. I deleted a rogue App and it has solved the phantom updates appearing. However now App Store now seems to hang with the "circle of death" checking for updates. Could this be related to another topic I have raised:
Where is the Apps list in 12.1?
When connecting iTunes with an iPad or iPhone, the Apps page no longer lists the Apps installed on the device. It does however show all of the installed Apps in the screen facsimiles on the right hand side of the page. The Apps count top right of the page is also correct.
Could it be that both are trying to reach the App Store server?
Internet connectivity is fine for other applications on the same iMac and for all devices I have connected to the internet via WiFi.

  • Update for app I don't have?

    Hello.
I have hade an app in my updates tab that says it needs to be updated, but i do not have the app. When i try to update it, i am asked to sign into my itunes account, upon which it then says i didn't download it with this account and need to log into the proper account. HOWEVER i have never bought this app in the first place. IT has been liek this for about a year now, and its really starting to get me mad, as i cannot update all apps. and the notification is getting on my nerves. I have tried replacing that _MASRecipt folder in all of my downloaded apps, but that has done nothing (however i will try this again if you guys dont jnow how to fix this). Anyway, anyone have any ideas?, know why this is happening?, or know how to fix this!? It would be most appresiated. 10 points up for grab here
    Thanks.

  • IPhone 3.0 update Firmware File Corrupt & Don't Have Enough Access Privileg

I'm trying to update to the new 3.0 firmware version for the iPhone. Once the download is complete I get two error messages, the first (The iPhone " " could not be restored/updated because the firmware file was corrupt) the second (There was a problem downloading the software for the iPhone " " You do not have enough access privileges for this operation. I am using Windows XP and I'm the only account on the computer. I just synced my iPhone on the 12th and had no problems. I uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes, same problem. I went to Documents and Settings/Application Data/Apple Computer/iTunes/iPhone Software Updates and deleted the files, same problem. I put my phone in recovery mode and tried to update, same problem. Any suggestions?

I had mega problems too. Try following the steps in my posting as below after creating a new user account on your computer with ADMIN priviledges also. See my posting on 20/06/2009 22:33 titled "Upgrade Error number 4 and Restore Error 1603 when going to OS 3.0 - Solved"
And turn off any antivirus and firewall software too, before doing so. And also click the Restore Button on the ITunes Summary page which seems to force the iphone into an update. Dont try using the Check for update button. Good Luck, Tony

  • "Open With" menu shows multiple versions of apps I don't have installed

So I did an Erase & Install to get Leopard up and running but I did a full system backup to an external drive that I do have connected to my machine.
Right now when I do "Open With" in the contextual menu in Finder it apparently is not only listing the apps installed on my main drive with Leopard, but also the apps on the external drive.
How can I get those apps on the external drive to not show up? I have the drive set to not be indexed by Spotlight.

  • I have an iPhone 4S. It is showing one Apple I.D. when I want to update my apps, and another (the one I want to keep) everywhere else. How can I delete the unwanted one?

I have an iPhone 4S. When I want to update an app, it asks me for a password for an Apple I.D. I no longer use, because I don't know the password for it. The rest of the places where my I.D. Is listed, like in iTunes, has the password I want to use. How can I get the phone to disable the unusable I.D. and substitute the one I have the password for?

It should be Noted that anything Downloaded with a Particular Apple ID is tied to that Apple ID and Cannot be Merged or Transferred to a Different Apple ID.

My old email come up when I want to update my apps.however I don't use that password at all,I've even had a message saying its not in use. I can't update them though which is really annoying! I've tried setting up that email again and change password but doesn't work at all.does anyone know how I can get rid of and use my current email?

Hi there, this problem has probably been resolved now, but I must say that I came across these posts today as I had the same problem, my old e mail kept popping up, but all sorted now!  Old Apps are not tied to the old Apple ID, honestly!
Rudegar is so right, all you do is go the SETTINGS/iTunes & App Store, then select `Apple ID` `Sign Out` then you get the chance to enter your new ID, and it worked a treat!
Good luck with anyone else with this problem, as I spent so long on this, really stupid!
PS you`ll need to again verify bank details

  • My friend's apple ID shows up when I want to update my Apps. How can I get rid of it and see my own instead?

On my iPhone I see my friend's Apple ID when I want to update my Apps and can't seem to login with my own. What's wrong? How can I get rid off my friend's ID and login with my own when I want to update or download apps? I went to Itunes Store in Setting and checked if my ID was still there, and it is so I have no idea what's wrong.

Just used her MacBook to unlock my iPhone as I was away from home. So she backuped my phone and restored it to allow the unlock to work. That's all.
I'm still not clear about what you mean about unlocking your phone. Normally, "unlocking" means entering the password if the phone is locked, which you should be able to do from the phone itself. If you want more help with this, you really need to take the time to furnish all the relevant details.
I have a MacBook Pro, and yes when I connect my iPhone on it it shows up in the devices list.
When you do that & click on the iPhone in the list, then click on the "Apps" tab at the top, do you see the apps you can't update listed there? If you click on the "Store" menu item does it show near the bottom that you are logged in with your own Apple ID?
As wjosten said, it sounds like one way or another, the apps you cannot update were obtained using your friend's Apple ID. You need to delete them from your phone & try buying them again. If they were in fact paid for with your own Apple ID you won't have to pay again; otherwise you will.

when you open the app store scroll down to the bottom it will display the apple id currently in use, change it to your normal apple id email

On OSX10.8, friend logged in using his appleID now the app store is trying to update apps I don't have.  How can I clean this up?  I don't see the usual ignore update like I did back on older versions of the OS.  I don't really want to just ignore it I want to clean it all up.  How can I make sure there is nothing under his name or ID on my new laptop?

The MAS doesn't usually offer updates for apps not present or not in your purchased list. Are you sure that the apps are not to be found on a mounted drive or partition, such as a backup?

  • HT201380 Why is The Apple App Store offering me an update for an app I don't have?

Why is the App Store offering me updates for an App I don't have? Specifically, Apple Remote Desktop 3.7.1 ?

    Welcome,
If this is for the Remore Desktop Client Update then you do have it - it's built in to OSX and is used when you want to use VNC clients.
If it's for Apple Remote Desktop then is't for the Admin App that drives the above client and is a paid for product. If you didn't buy this then it shouldn't appear. If it has lucky you!

When I want to update my apps , it said that my iPad cannot connect to the iTunes Store . I don't know what happen to it . Last time I accidentally click Chang To US Store , but my own country is Malaysia . What can I do to update the apps ? Help me plssssssssss . Thankyou

Then you need to change the store that you bought the apps from - correct?
Go to the featured tab of the App Store and tap on your ID at the bottom. Tap View Apple ID. Enter your password. Go to Country/Region and change it to the correct store.

When I opened my App Store today, I found 6 apps needing update.  I clicked “Update All” and there popped “Sign in to iTunes Store” and asked me to enter the Apple ID password for <my account>.  I entered my password for the Apple ID but it said “Your Apple ID or password is incorrect.” Since I entered incorrect passwords many times, I had to reset my password two times already.  I want to update the apps on my phone. But, I can’t , and this is tiring, exhausting, and frustrating.  My questions: (1) Why is iTunes asking for a password for an old account  when I changed that already? (2) What to do now - Do I sign out of iTunes, delete the account and create a new one?

We are fellow users here on these user-to-user forums, you're not talking to iTunes Support nor Apple - I've asked the hosts to remove your email addresses from your post (it's not a good idea to post personal info on any public forum).
Is the old account a completely different iTunes account, or is it just a previous primary email address on the same account ? If it's a different account then all content that you download from the store is tied to the account that downloaded it, so only that old account will be able to download updates to its apps.
If it's the same account, just a previous primary email address, then what id shows at the bottom of the Featured tab in the App Store app on your phone ? You could try tapping on that and log out of it and then log back in with the updated version and see what id then shows for updates.
