IPhone + Washing Machine = constant reboot??

Hey Guys,
As the title suggests, my iphone had a run in with the washing machine last week... it was in there for 10 or so minutes before i noticed and retrieved it... i dried it using the rice + blow dryer method for 4-5 days and then tried turning it on... much to my surprise and pleasure the oh so familiar apple logo appeared. Unfortunately it didn't go away, and then the little cog wheel started spinning and eventually the iphone turned off, but then instantly turned back on again... this goes on for as long as its got power... each incident is of different times (ie, could be 2-10-30 mins before rebooting). i tried restoring it, twice, but both times, after its rebooting to finish, the cycle starts over again. the first time it was very difficult to get itunes to recognising it, the second, i put it into DFU mode and itunes did its usual thing - mind you the screen was blank while in DFU, but did show the usual restore things.
Any ideas??
I may be going out on a limb here =P but im assuming that 'water damage' isn't covered in the standard warranty. And if so, what are my options if the iphone is dead, considering im not likely going to fork out AU$800 for a new one to replace it.
I live in Australia and on an Optus 24 month plan with about 19 months left (if that makes any difference.)
Please Help,
And thanks in advance,
Farley

Thanks for your help...
I Sent it off to Apple for 'repair' using the OOW service you mentioned. Still waiting for it to be returned/replaced however i would just like to point out how efficient and easy it was with them. Just called up and within minutes i was ready to send it off for 'identification of problem'.
If anyone happens to fall into a similar situation (and i hope that you don't) its worth considering when all else fails. Compared with the price of a new iphone, this isn't too much to ask for to bring your 'baby' (sorry, i count help myself) back to life.

  • My Iphone 4 has been put in the washing machine by accident - help!

My Iphone 4 has been put in the washing machine by accident - is there any way it can be saved!!

Most likely it has suffered hardware damage in which case you'll need to take or send to Apple and pay for replacement, either under your AppleCare+ plan if you purchased the plan or by paying Apple's standard out-of-warranty replacement charge:

    Buy a new one.
You can try letting it dry for a week or so and trying it again.

  • Can I sell an iPhone that has been through the washing machine?

I have a 16 month old iPhone 5S that went through the washing machine. Screen busted and now it doesn't work. I was wondering if it was still sellable. Meaning, is there anyone out there that would buy such a phone and be able to use the parts?
I'm not trying to dupe anyone, I'm going to be up front about the condition, but I wasn't sure if any part of the phone still had value in it's current state.
    Thanks for any help.

Yes, you can sell it as "for parts or not working" (that's what eBay would have you list it as). But you'd probably only get $10-$20 for it. Also, although it's not working, do as much of this as you can: What to do before selling or giving away your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support.

    HELP!!!!

It is likely that the device has unrepairable harm done to it having it washed in the washing machine. However, one thing that could be tried would be to have the device placed in a glad bag full of un-cooked rice and leave it there for 72 hours to see if this will absorb residual moisture showing up on the display glass. It could be assumed that if there is that much moisture showing it's unlikely attempting to draw out moisture will be sucessful.
    Good luck.

  • IPhone in washing machine for 10 mins, what to do?

    Hi
I left my iPhone in washing machine for 10 mins, what should I do? I haven't tried to turn it on.

Was the iPhone turned on while it was washed for 10 minutes? If so, the iPhone is likely a goner.
Do not turn it on. Place the iPhone in a zip lock bag of rice or if you have access to desicants, place the iPhone in a zip lock bag of desicants for a week or two before trying to turn it back on.

A friend dropped hers in Biscayne Bay a couple days ago.
It was visible in 4' of water but none of the guys had
cojones to get their faces wet and told her to forget it!
She was on 450 AT&T plan w/ unlimited data (grandmothered?)
paying 80 to 90/mo and 9 mo's left on contract. They offered
her (she was eligible) for Next, a $71 plan with unlimited calls

  • Constant rebooting iphone 4s, responding slow, battery indication

My iphone 4s is contantly rebooting when attached on power outlet or mac , when not it is responsing slow on the screen when you want to do anything.
Also the % of the battery stays in the same number and does not change.
Is there a solution for this problem?
    Thanks!!!

My mothers 4S is working fine on iOS 8.2.
You may have to eliminate some apps that were optimized for 64 bit devices.  While the iphone 5S is a 64 bit, in theory, the iphone 6 and 6+ is a true 64 bit.  Apps optimized for the iPhone 6 may crash and will run slow On the 4S or 5C.
generally slow is a software problem.
back up and do a factory reset.   If you have an available Mac computer, running current itunes, you can backup to the Mac Or windows PC in excellent running condition.  I highly recommend it Over icloud.  Just to be extra safe, import photos and video to your computer or cloud storage.   Set up as new with the backup.

Leave it in the rice for at least a day and change the rice every other day or so. The rice and iPod should be in a sealed container.

  • Constant reboot after IOS4 upgrade Solved!

I too was having the dreaded error 29 code and stuck in recovery mode along with the 5 minute constant reboot since upgrading to IOS4 two days ago. I had to use Blackra1n to get it out of recovery. Blackra1n will NOT jailbreak IOS4 but will fix the stuck recovery mode problem. I also had previously replaced the battery with a higher capacity mAh. the upgrade to v3.1.3 went perfect. Only when I upgraded to IOS4 did things change. It would constantly reboot and the battery was slowly draining and would not recharge. I poured through countless forum posts and tried most all of them. Then this evening I found a post somewhere in this forum about possibly the battery was causing the problem. So I got out my tools and put the original battery back in and booted up. It got to the front screen and immediately a bunch of old calendar events started popping up which was different than before. I cleared them all and I have now had my iphone on steady for over an hour and not one reboot. Battery is also now recharging off my laptop.
So long story short, if you've replaced your battery at some point, put it back in or hopefully an OEM with same APN: 616-0434 (#for my iPhone). Everything is now working in IOS4!

  • Upgrade causes constant reboot

Has anyone else had their iPhone go into a constant reboot cycle after the OS upgrade? I've been watching the Apple logo flash on/off for the past hour. Hard reset doesn't work. Any ideas of how to get it to boot?

Mate it might be because the software hasnt actually become live yet, :/, You might have got a version that slipped through the server, Sometimes happens, It should fix when the full software is released, If not Go to your apple store

  • Constant reboots on my iMac (early 2009) with Mountain Lion. Why?

I know there are a number of threads here speaking of similar problems, I've tried the steps mentioned there...to no avail.
I have an early 2009 iMac with a 24" display, 3.06 Ghz Core2 Duo. Memory has been upgraded to 8 GB.
The problem is: Since upgrading to Mountain Lion I get constant reboots, sometimes I can't even have the machine running for more than 30 minutes without it starting again. This is making it impossible for me to work. I've posted the last panic report at the end of this message. What I've noticed so far in all the panic messages is that the last loaded or unloaded extensions are always the same ones, no matter if my machine is restarting after 30 seconds or 4 hours. Could that be something helpful?

So it's ALWAYS either a file system extension or the USBCDC one. Always. Is that useless info or can I do some further testing in a specific direction here?
I've done the Apple Hardware Test in a loop for more than 8 hours without any problems, I've done a memtest in terminal without any problems. I've bootet in safe mode and still got a reboot. I've disconnected all external stuff (only using a Cintiq, a DAC with speakers and keyboard/mouse anyway)
Can anybody give me any more tips? Oh, and I've reinstalled Mountain Lion (clean install from recovery partition) a few times already. No change in behavior.

Update: It just happened again, this time while doing a backup with Time Machine. Could it be my Keyboard?
I'm not using a Bluetooth keyboard, but one with a USB connection. Sometimes I'm connecting my backup drive to it, but reboots also happen without anything connected to the keyboard.
This time there's even backtrace info:

  • Washing Machine FAIL

I just dropped my iPod 4g in the washing machine and I left it in rice for a couple weeks. Now the touch screen works and the sound dose too, but the backlight wont work at all. If you get a glare off of the screen you can see the homepage. I dont have a warrenty on it. I really dont want to bring it to the apple store because if they fix it they will probably charge me as much as it is to get a new one. Everything else works. PLEASE HELP ME!!!

Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for $99, $149 or $199 depending upon the capacity.
A third-party place like the following may be less expensive. However, some problems surface later due to water damage causing slow corrosion.

  • Advice on durable washing machine

We have had it 'up to here' with countless issues with our Maytag Neptune front loading washer (approx 7-8 yrs old)...leaking, damaged drum, and is at the point where even just a t-shirt will cause it to just hum and beep and stop working while still filled with water, utterly frustrating.
SO, I am looking for some advice on a new front-loading washing unit.  I've read multiple reviews and consumer reports, but it's hard to glean from all of this which washer is really the most reliable.  I don't need many bells and whistles, just something that is incredibly durable (ie: won't need frequent servicing, no delicate drums, no leaking, etc.), and preferably from a company who is actually willing to help solve any maintenance or product issues (definitely not Maytag!).
It would also be helpful to know from Best Buy which units they have had service calls for the most, and least frequently over the last few years...
Thank you to all in advance!
    Katie

    Hello Katie-
It’s always disappointing when you have constant service issues with any item, but especially when it’s a washing machine, I can understand your frustration.  I used to have a Ford Bronco that still haunts me to this day with the issues it had…
Regrettably, we’re not going to be able to provide any information around which units we typically service more than others.  However, what I would recommend is speaking with some of our appliance specialists at your local Best Buy store.  I’m sure that they can give you some good advice around a new washer.
    Thanks for posting!
