IPhone White 3Gs Crack neer dock connector. Seeking answers about possible outcomes.

Hey guys, I have a white 32gb iPhone 3gs. Now I have noticed a crack on the back coming up from the dock connector. The iPhone still has 3 months of warranty left and I'm wondering what I can do? As I will be heading to an apple store this Friday and I want to be prepared. Is there anyway I can upgrade to a 4 (I will pay money to be able to) or am I stuck with the 3gs. Also what happens with mine, because they dont produce 32gb 3Gs' anymore. Any replys are appreciated.
Thanks

If your phone is determined to be faulty, and covered by warranty, it will be replaced on the spot with an identical refurbished model. While the 32GB model is not sold new any more, there are stock available for warranty replacement. As to upgrading, you can do that at anytime. Whether you qualify for a subsidized price would be determined by your carrier.  Backup your 3GS before you go to the Apple store.

  • Cracks at dock connector? Dust under screen?

I bought my iPhone about 11 months ago from the online store (as I live in Canberra, where there is no Apple retail store) and it has been pretty good, apart from a crack I noticed at the dock connector a few months ago. I haven't been able to go and get it checked out at the Genius bar as there isn't an Apple store in my area (nearest is 400km+ away).
My warranty is drawing to a close and I was wondering if anybody knows how I can get ahold of the Genius bar (or any sort of replacement/support) via email or phone - as I can't really just make a trip to Sydney to get a 15 appointment with a Genius.
I wasn't sure if the cracking was covered under warranty but several of my friends have told me it's a design flaw and that Apple will replace it under warranty.

Have you contacted Apple regarding your Problem?
If not give them a call on 1300321456 before your Warranty expires...

  • IPhone 3G cracked above dock connector

    Hi,
The other day I plugged the sync cord into my iPhone 3G and the casing above it cracked about a inch. It now says "3rd party accessory not supported" randomly when I use it with nothing plugged in.
What are the chances Apple will cover this under applecare?

If you don't live near an Apple store, you can call AppleCare at (800) 694-7466.
Every warranty claim is on a case by case basis, so no one here can say with any certainty if Apple will cover this under warranty or not.

  • IPhone crack in rear casing near dock connector

I have looked after my iPhone (without a case though, I must admit) and noticed two small cracks which have seemed to come out of nowhere, one at the side of the dock connector and one growing right from the middle of it. I have heard it's a common problem with iPhone 3G/3GS! My iPhone warranty runs out in April 2011, but I no longer have any proof of purchase. Is it likely that Apple would replace the iPhone, or even just the rear casing? I have the original packaging/box just no receipt. My nearest Apple store is about 2 hours away, I don't want to get all the way there to find out they won't cover it! Thanks in advance.

Make a genius appointment at the Apple Store, and bring the iPhone. Apple should have the serial number on file and require nothing else.
As far as getting the unit repaired or replaced, each iPhone issue is a case by case basis. I can say that I have had 3 iPhone's replaced due to stress cracks showing up in the back of my iPhone, but my iPhone's have always been in cases and the stress cracks would show up in month or two, so each iPhone wasn't very old.
The genius will inspect the iPhone and then try to determine whether the iPhone has a manufacturing flaw or if it is damage from abuse. Wish you the best in getting it covered, but there is no way to guarantee it. If it is covered you will probably receive a refurbished iPhone as a replacement on the spot.

  • My 3GS keeps switching between iPhone speaker and Dock connector and I don't know how to keep it on iPhone speaker

My 3GS keeps switching between iPhone speaker and Dock connector and I don't know how to keep it on iPhone speaker so I can listen to my music and games.  Is it hardware or software problem?

I was told by a friend that sometimes when you use a 3rd party charger that the connectors are not the same size and so it can affect the sensors in the phone and make it seem like it is in a docking station and so changes the output for dock speakers.  With that said, I didn't take my pohone in to be serviced at the appple store because it was a 3GS and over 2 years old and so not covered by any service plan.  Since then my phone is back to normal and I can use my headphones and listen with the speakers on the phone.  I stoped using the suspected cheap 3rd party charger and maybe that's what did it, but not sure if it was or wasn't the cause of my problem.  I'm glad that my phone is better I was kinda holding out for the Iphone 5 when i comes out later and hope my phone lasted until then.

  • Is the iPhone 3G's dock connector compatible with the 3GS?

A few days ago, my iPhone 3GS stopped charging. After some research I've determined this is due to a faulty dock connector. I'm out of warranty so I can't get a replacement from Apple, and I don't want to purchase a new phone since a new iPhone is rumored to be announced as early as next month. I've been using my brother's old iPhone 3G in the meantime, but now I'm wondering if I can just take the dock connector out of the 3G and put it into the 3GS. Does anyone know if this will work? If they aren't compatible, I noticed that Amazon sells some cheap third party dock connectors. Reviews suggest that people have had varying experiences with them. Does anyone have a recommendation for an inexpensive third party connector?

yes it is same with iphone4 and 4s

  • Dock connector crack.

    Hi,
I have an iPhone 3GS 16GB White and it is 7 months old, been in a case ever since i bought it, Lately there has been 2 cracks at the dock connector, I have made an appointment at the genius bar and hopefully should get the phone replaced, the appointment is on Friday at 3PM UK time at the Victoria Square Apple Store in Belfast, I want to know because the iPhone 3GS White ones arent available anymore, I dont want the 8GB 3GS as 8GB Isnt enough space for me. Will they replace it with an iPhone 4 or what? Thanks if anyone can help.

  • Crack on back cover spreading up from dock connector -- anyone else?

Two week-old black iPhone 3G 16GB. Kept in a leather slip-case. Never sat on, dropped or abused. Free of scratches.
Now has a 10mm-long crack spreading up from the middle of the dock connector.
Called Apple tech support, told I'd get a free replacement, went on hold, then told that actually it was accidental damage and I'd be charged for repair, "even if it's a design fault", because it arrived from O2 without a crack in it.
Looking up inside the dock connector, there's no support for the case and the edge can flex inwards with just the tiniest pressure.
Anyone else having this problem? Anyone had any success getting Apple to replace it?
Unfortunately, the only camera I've got with me is on my iPhone, so it'll be a challenge to take a picture of the crack today!

Second phone call to Apple, still no joy. Some interesting tid-bits:
    1) Absolutely no advanced-replacement option possible: "it's not like a little power supply or something -- the iPhone is different". Send it in for an evaluation is the only Apple option aside from trekking to an Apple store for evaluation.
    2) The cost to replace the back cover, if found to be 'accidental damage', is £146 for an 8GB, probably more for a 16GB (?!)
    3) The guy was unable to tell me how Apple assesses if something is 'accidental damage', and couldn't put me through to someone who could. He also refused to put me through to anybody else to discuss the matter further.
    4) He said that he wasn't interested in listening to anything that had been posted on a forum regarding cracking issues or anyone getting a replacement from Apple.
    5) My only other option, he said, was to take it in to an O2 shop and have a go at getting a replacement from them.
I waffled on about 'fit for purpose', this being a premium product, and being a loyal Apple customer for years to absolutely no avail -- he wouldn't budge and give me a replacement, offer a free repair, or acknowledge any potential design faults. Like talking to a brick wall of policy! Quite different to the only other experience I've had with Apple tech support.
Interesting to hear about the moisture sensor, neuroanatomist -- thanks!

  • My iPhone 4S will be playing music and then it will stop and go into dock connector mode. What do I do to stop this?

Hi, my iPhone 4S will be playing music or nothing and it will randomly stop! I doesn't even show the volume bar. It goes right into
dock connector mode when it's not even on a dock. It only does this when I want to play music through the iPhone speaker. I
don't know what to do or how to fix this, It started doing this when I was on 5.0.1 and I read something saying it would help
to upgrade my phone, so I went to 5.1 and nothing was fixed, sometimes it does this and than it doesn't. For me to get it back to
normal I need to hold down the Siri button and select the way I want it to play when the device button comes up and it says
" iPhone " , " iPhone Speaker " and sometime it won't even say those. Will apple give me a new phone if I take it in? I never signed up
for Apple care. I just got this phone in February 2012. PLEASE HELP ME.

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore.  Has any of this been tried?
Unless and until is has been, Apple will not do anything, beyond the basic troubleshooting listed above.

  • Placing, and receiving calls through the iPhone's dock connector.

Can calls be placed and received through the iPhone's dock connector?
For example, assume you have a device, with two connectors, an iPhone dock, and a telephone jack. The device would allow you to connect a standard phone, cordless phone base station, fax machine, etc, and make calls using your iPhone cell service instead of you landline.

No, that can not be done.

  • Seeking old iPod (with dock connector) advice

good morning people who are smarter than me. I have an older version which they are calling "iPod (with dock connector)" from 2005. its got a ton of music that i either uploaded or purchased and i would like to get it onto my laptop so i can put the music in my rad new iphone. however, the battery is such that the ipod wont work unless it is connected to a charge. unfortunately for me, it will not charge when hooked up to the computer (Dell - Vista (...i know).
any advice? do they still sell batteries for older ipods? is there some setting that i can change in itunes to make it charge my ancient ipod when hooked up to the computer?
    thanks.

I have a older 40 Gig Gen 2 classic (I guess they called them that) I bought it in 2004, and am on my 3rd battery. I had the same problem you described. I just got another one from laptopsforless.com and it cost me 5 bucks. .01 cent for the battery and 4.99 shipping, I got it in about a week. (I figured It was worth 5 bucks to take a chance on it) It works fine, but still do not get more than a few hours out it fully charged.

  • IPhone 4s dock connector functionality after iOS 7 upgrade

I recently decided to upgrade my Apple iPhone 4s 64gb CDMA model to iOS 7, prior to the upgrade I had no problems at all.  The upgrade was successful but after the reboot the device was no longer being recognized by iTunes on my Macbook Pro.  The phone would charge without a problem just not readable any longer by iTunes.  Thinking something was wrong with iTunes on my Macbook I tried attaching it to my Mac Mini that previously worked but the same thing occured so I tried swapping cables but no change in status.  So I figured let's reboot the device to see if that fixed it, but it would no longer respond to holding in the power button, so I did the trick with holding in the home and power button to force a reboot which worked.  However when it restarted it just keep rebooting, meaning it would show the apple logo at startup then restart and kept repeating this process in a loop.  It seems that the device is stuck in a recovery mode and each time I try to connect it to iTunes it will briefly recognize the device but will reboot which produces an error message.
I tried a few third party software solutions that are known to force the device out of the recovery mode but none of them seem to work on it. Not sure where to go from here, my thought was to replace the dock connector but just not sure that is the problem given it was working perfectly before the iOS 7 upgrade.
    Looking for sugguestions?

  • IPhone 4S, dock connector broke, warranty not honored

I went to your Apple Store on 5656 Bay Street. Emeryville, CA 94608 because the outlet connector on my iPhone 4S broke -I have had the phone for less than a year (still in warranty). This is a plastic piece inside the base of the phone and I have just used it in the normal way, connecting and disconnecting the device when it needed to be charged. I had been sent by my phone's carrier, AT&T, to the Apple store to get the phone fixed or replaced under the warranty, yet Apple answered that it was a physical problem and I should have to pay $200 to purchase a new iPhone. They tried to tell me repeatedly that the phone had water damage and that it would therefore not be covered under warranty. My phone has never had any water damage to my knowledge, nor was there any problem with the phone's function. It is and has been a perfect phone. It is simply a piece of the phone that broke off due to normal necessary charging. After even speaking with a manager they told me that if I was not happy with the quality of the device I could buy from another brand. My husband was going to buy a new iPhone 5 but after this experience she is thinking to by a Samsung Gallaxy instead. I still have my contract with AT&T and I will have to pay $200 if I decide to break the contract with them. At AT &T, they told me that after 30 days of purchase the warranty of the phone is covered by Apple and they will not do anything for me too. This is extremely upsetting to me. The normal cost for a new iPhone 4S is around $700; their product broke and they are refusing to fix it for me. I would like this complaint to go on record.
In the last 10 years I have only buy Apple computers (two mac book pro's), other two mac books, mostly all the ipods since the first generation and I was very happy with the service and the quality of mostly all their products but in the last year this was the second issue I have with them. The first one with my Mac Book Pro overheating because a factory defect in the graphic card cost me $300, and now this one still in warranty it supposes to cost me $200. I don't think that Apple is having economy problems to just get honored their warranty. I understand if they don't fix the phone if it has a physical damage for bad use but conecting the phone to charge it?. I was felt so bad with their behaviour that the first I did when I got home was to put a complaint in the Federal Trade Commission (first time ever). I have always defend the quality of Apple products and service, but I think that is all gone.

The phone has never been around any water and anyway the iphone is in working conditions, the only problems is the dock connector ins partially problem, it can be charged but the data sync is not working well and I'm afraid it will broke more until it couldn't be charged. If there is any water damaged (I don't think so), the only explaination is humidity, anyway the iphone is working, I don't even why he told us that because that wasn't anything in relationship with the physical damage.
Thank you anyway for your answer.
