Iphone wifi dropping connection when locked

all in the title but, when locked it forgets the wi-fi password, and so i have to re enter it.
iphone 4
belkin wireless n router with wpa passphrase.

Are you hiding your network identification (SSID)?  If you are doing that, it is a pretty common complaint.  In either case, the fix is about the same:
Fix 1
When you are connected to your network, tap Settings > WiFi > and then tap the blue ">" next to the network name with the check mark.
The next screen will give you your connection information.  Scroll until you find "Forget this Network" and tap that.
That should return you to the Settings > WiFi page.  Tap Other, and then re-enter your network name, security, and network password.
Fix 2
tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Your Network Settings
When the iPhone restarts, tap Settings > WiFi > Other and re-enter your network name, security, and network password.
Fix 3 - if all else fails
Reboot your router (uun plug it from it's power source).

  • Does WiFi stay connected when charging iPhone

I've noticed lately that when I wake my iPhone from standby when it is plugged into a power source (charger or usb on my computer) that the WiFi connection is already there (the phone has been on standby overnight in the case of the charger). I get the impression that the iPhone is maintaining the WiFi connection when it has external power, but have not seen any references to this behavior. I have noticed this since at least 3.1, don't remember if earlier or not.
My iPhone is up to date with OS 3.2.1.
This is not a problem, just curious if anyone else is seeing this behavior?

Just wanted to throw what I have seen in. I have an AEBS in my house. When my phone is in low power mode with screen dark and I wake it up, the symbol moves from 3G to Wi-fi symbol. When I open my Airport Utility, it shows me the number of users. Unless I actually have Safari on the iphone open and running, it only shows one user (my MBP). When I open Safari on my iphone, then I show 2 users. If I close Safari, it moves back to one user...

  • IPhone 4S Wifi drops randomly when in use

Today I got a message that I would be billed $15 because I passed my data limit. I'm on AT&T and I got no prior notice. No 65% notice, no 90% notice. Just one saying that I passed the 200mb mark. I guess that means I passed it in one sitting, likely because my phone switched from wifi to 4g when wifi was still in range. I know it automatically does this while asleep, but for me this is happening while using the phone, without warning and reason. Not only is $15 bucks a lot to pay, but really, I've been having this problem a lot and now that it's actually costing me money, there needs to be a hotfix. Either Youtube, the app that I've noticed this the most in has to fix it, or Apple does.
Note: I'm not going to turn off Cellular Data. Not only is it inconvenient to have to turn it off every time I transition from 4g to Wifi, but in the case that I lose my phone, I won't be able to use Find My iPhone. (When asleep, it will disconnect from Wifi, and without 4g Find my i doesn't work.)

this solution did not work for me. (I already had Ask for Connection disabled) -- any other ideas?
this has become particularly relevant as of late with ATT now trying to push Unlimited data plan users into switching plans with "speed caps" after 3gb of usage in a billing cycle.
It rolls out next month and there is apparently no other option other than switching plans; so after 3gb is used, the speed for those of us on the old Unlimited plans will be "reduced" for the rest of the billing cycle. The language is very sketchy and unclear, especially how they are even allowed to suddenly do this when we have contracts. When I called I was only given tips on how to keep my data usage under 3gb for as much of the month as possible. I was told I was contracted to unlimited "use", not unlimited "speed".
thus, why I'm trying to stay on WiFi as much as possible, when at work or home.
tl;dr but wanted to both ask for more info and provide some for anyone else out there who was grandfathered in with an Unlimited data plan from days of yore.

  • Homehub 3 - wifi dropping only when PC on

Over the past week when my PC is on (connected to HH3 via Ethernet cable), the devices in the house which connect via wifi (an ipad an 2 iphones) seem to keep dropping wifi connectivety.
When the PC is off though , the devices keep hold of the wifi connection and work fine.
Internet speed on PC is fine, and wifi on iOs devices is fine too (when they can connect).
It is odd as we have had the Hub over 3 years, and nothing has changed
Any ideas - maybe a power cycle or reset, or maybe a new Hub?

This sounds like the DHCP bug in the HH3

  • Strange behaviour: WiFi is off when locking the screen

    Hi,
I have two iPhones: first is iPhone 4s with ios6 and the second is iPhone 5 with ios7. I have made an experiment at my house where I can see if the iphone is connected to my WiFi router or not and finally I came to this summary. the experiments shows that the iphone 4 with ios6 will disable the WiFi interface after some seconds, when the sceen lock. In contrast, when iPhone 5 with ios7 is locked (screen lock), then the WiFi interface will not ever be disabled. This observation was done with the help of WLAN router where the connection and disconneciton of iPhone can be monitored.
My question is: is this behaviour correct? and there is not change in the setting of iphone 5 and 4 or in ios to let such different behaviour?

To me the router was the problem.
I have iphone5. When I had ios6, wifi was active on lock screen. After upgradind to ios7, wifi became disabled on lock screen and I did'nt know why. I could not receive my notification from,i,e., yahoomessenger, facebook etc. when the phone was on lock screen and this was very annoying. Someone said in the forum that normal state for wifi on lock screen had to be inactive but in my opinion this is not logical. Everyone can easily disable wifi from control center, i.e. when she/he does'nt to be disturbed.
So after several days of googling, to me the solution was.... to rename my router.. Everything that I did before was unsuccessful. My previous name of my router was "dlink". I understood that it might be some interference with other router from the same brand (dlink)  something like that. I went to the PC into the settings, I changed the name in something totallu different and that's it!
    Hope this help you too.

  • Fix for Airserver or Reflector ( drops connection when call comes in )

    Hey Guys
Today i am using AirServer and it works great to be able to show your IPad on you PC or MAC. The problem is that i am sharing a app that  does a voice and video call and when the call connects it drops connection of the sharing on the MAC / PC. Once the Phone / Video connection is ended Airserver comes back up and works like advertised. (I just tried Reflector and they both work the same). Don't know if this a securty thing in IOS or not might be ? Any work arounds ? I already sent emails to both Airserver and Reflector. Open to other products if needed.
Does anyone know a solution which might work to be able to share the IPad / IPhone on PC / Mac and not drop the connection. If solution only works on a Mac that is fine as well.
    Device
    IPad 2 running IOS 7.0.4
    Displaying to the following:
AirServer version 1.9.4.0 Windows on Win 7 32 bit.
AirServier version 4.8.1 on Mavericks on a Mac Book Air.
    Thx
    Dave

Still have the problem does anyone know a fix for this by chance ?>
Anyone know of a application or way to use a lightning to hdmi into a PC or Mac that would allow to show just half of the of the real estate on your monitor ( Similer to Airserver ?). I assume i need some capture card basically i want to be able to show half the screen with my IPAD and show a browser on the other half of the screen.
BTW I am using a IPad Air now running IOS 7.04 same thing.

  • BT Wifi drops connections periodically

While I'm waiting for BT to resolve the issues encountered while installing my line, I've been using BT Wifi (FON) now & then.
I noticed this week, that after a while of being logged in (login via BT ID, not by purchasing time), after a while, the session is logged out. I actually noticed as it happened while my lad was watching a video on YouTube on the laptop.
It's not a problem to log back in again & it works, but it is a hassle. Same problem doesn't exist when using the mobile/tablet app - so it's clearly not an account limitation.
Anyone any ideas of the cause? Or an easy work around (don't say to install the app on the laptop... it'd be much easier/faster for me to write an auto-login script for the browser & sit it on a background page in Chrome)?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

BTWIFI is set to drop connection every 2 hrs (I think) to stop people downloading large files.  it will also disconencted after 15min of inactivity

  • Wifi drops connection sporadic (MBP 13" Retina late 2013)

    Hi,
    my problem:
The Wifi connection drops every 10-20 minutes, sometimes even more often, and reconnects automatically after a few seconds. When the Wifi is connected it shows full connectivity. There are about 10 other devices in the network, none of them has the same problems - the connection is perfectly fine with every other device in the Network.
    my setup:
The router is a Apple Time Capsule (newest generation) there are NO other wireless networks in my area - my wireless network is the only one i see in the list of available networks, so no interference with other networks possible.
    what i already tried:
I completely wiped my hard drive and installed OSX Yosemite - the system is clean, no iCloud or Time Machine Backups!
I'm quite sure it's a hardware problem. I hope for some infos whats the next step from here?
    Thanks.

    Hi Moriartie,
I read your problem carefully. From the above stated problem I can assure you that your macs hardware is perfectly fine because even I
have a 13’’ retina macbook pro late 2013 model running Mavericks and it absolutely works like a charm.
The only mistake you did is by upgrading to Yosemite from Mavericks. Currently, I am running Mavericks version 10.9.5 and the machine is working flawlessly
without any hardware or software issues.
Just see in the comments section of Yosemite in the App Store of people complaining about their macs Wi-Fi issues after upgrading to Yosemite from Mavericks ( They had no Wi-Fi issues on Mavericks, late 2013 rMBP).
The only way right now is to return back to Mavericks some how until the Wi-fi bug issues get sorted out on Yosemite. Hope this might help. Sorry for the late reply.
    Regards,
    Grane Duke.

  • Wifi Drop-out when iMac wakes from sleep

My iMac does not connect when waking from sleep. I have to turn the airport off and on every time. Its been doing it since last October when i installed Lion. I had hoped it would be fixed with an update but no such luck. I have seen similar posts but no suggestions to fix it. Anyone have any ideas?

  • Should iphone 5 drop connection alot on public wifi

Is it my iphone or just the fact that public wifi networks tend to have alot of users on at the same time, if it drops wifi connection on them alot?

The wi-fi connection is dropped while actively using your iPhone, or it is dropped when your iPhone is locked or asleep?
The latter is normal, the former is not.

  • Connecting to LTE when WiFi is connected on lock screen

I haven't really had this issue until the latest update came out. But I've noticed that when my phone is not in use, and I wake it up using the Sleep/wake button, I notice my wireless connectivity says LTE (we have thankfully JUST gotten LTE in my small town and I LOVE IT!) when I'm at home and I'm obviously connected to WiFi at the same time. After it wakes up and the screen is lit and everything, after 2 seconds it goes right back to WiFi.
My only concerns is that is it staying connected to my celluar data in this state when it's in sleep mode, and background apps that are running (like push mail, facebook, skype, ect.) eating up my celluar data when there is already a WiFi connection established? Be it or not, just wanted to throw my concerns out because I know how it feels to have overages on your cellular data plan. Thank you.

When the phone asleep wifi is turned off to save battery power and when you wake up the phone wifi reconnects.  That is normal operation for the phone

  • Yoga Pro 3 - Wifi dropped connections; refuses to reconnect

First day of owning my Yoga Pro 3. Has anyone experienced intermittent wifi failures?
I've had trouble on both access points that I have at home. One is an older 802.11b router (set to channel 1), and other a D-Link815 dual-band bgn router (with the 2.4Ghz radio set to channel 11).
I've experienced problems using both routers on either channel and when using the 5Ghz spectrum as well.
Connectivity with either access point lasts from 5 mins to 30+ mins (in limited time I had available to use it so far).
Far more frustrating is that when dropped, the YP3 refuses to reconnect. Manually selecting the access point in the network connections charm and clicking "Connect" results in failed attempts at connecting and system will refuse to connect to any Access Point for a random amount of time. At one point I had attempted to reconnect about 20+ times before it did reconnect.
Obviously, tried rebooting without any change in behavior.
I uninstalled the Broadcom wireless driver (the system the auto-installed a Microsoft driver which, from the version number, appeared to be an older version of the same Broadcom driver as they used a very similar numbering scheme and were very close). No change. I reverted that change.
Are there known issues with these wifi cards/drivers accessing open wifi connections? I live in the middle of no-where, so have had no compelling reason to secure the access points.
    What else should I try?
    Thanks

My WiFi connects fine @ 2.4 GHz only Access Point (netgear wnr2000 v2) 4 rooms away (~ 35 feet and my Linksys router is on the same room as me so I get 866.5 Mbps all the time), giving me fluctuating connection speed from 243 to 300 Mbps. I generally don't use the 2.4 GHz band but I occasionally try it to check for stability. It's working fine but there's too much 2.4 GHz clients in our area so I use 5 GHz for Netflix, Hulu steaming where low latency stability is needed.
Definitely try reseating the antenna so you can rule that out. If you still can't connect @ 2.4 GHz, try other 2.4 Ghz access points or it's just that you get a defectve Broadcom 4352 card or it might be even Windows 8.1 drivers itself.

  • WRT54G2 dropping connection when I use security

I can only get connection that is stable when I eliminate all security.  I have gone through both levels of security on multiple computers and still cannot hold a stable connection unless I disable all security.  Im looking for any advice I can get.

From your post, I assume that you are able to make a secure wireless connection, and that your Internet connection works through this secured wireless connection, but that you frequently loose your wireless connection  ---  is that all correct?
If so, then the most likely cause is that you simply have a poor wireless connection.   Secured wireless requires a more solid wireless connection than is needed for unsecured wireless.  So when you have a poor connection, your secured wireless is more likely to drop your connection.  Note that you can have a poor wireless connection even if your computer shows "five bars".
There are many causes for poor wireless connections, and many solutions:
First of all, give your network a unique SSID. Do not use "linksys". If you are using "linksys" you may be trying to connect to your neighbor's router. Also set "SSID Broadcast" to "enabled". This will help your computer find and lock on to your router's signal.
Poor wireless connections are often caused by radio interference from other 2.4 GHz devices. This includes wireless phones, wireless baby monitors, microwave ovens, wireless mice and keyboards, wireless speakers, and your neighbor's wireless network. In rare cases, Bluetooth devices can interfere. Even some 5+ GHz phones also use the 2.4 Ghz band. Unplug these devices, and see if that corrects your problem.
In your router, try a different channel. There are 11 channels in the 2.4 GHz band. Usually channel 1, 6, or 11 works best. Check out your neighbors, and see what channel they are using. Because the channels overlap one another, try to stay at least +5 or -5 channels from your strongest neighbors. For example, if you have a strong neighbor on channel 9, try any channel 1 through 4.
Also, try to locate the router about 4 to 6 feet above the floor, in an open area. Do not locate it behind your monitor or near other computer equipment or speakers. If your router has external antenna, they should be vertical.
Also, in the computer, go to your wireless software, and go to "Preferred Networks" (sometimes called "Profiles" ). There are probably a few networks listed. Delete any network named "linksys". Also delete any network that you do not recognize, or that you no longer use. If your current network is not listed, enter its info (SSID, encryption (if any), and key (if any) ). Then select your current network and make it your default network, and set it to automatic login. You may need to go to "settings" to do this, or you may need to right click on your network and select "Properties" or "settings".
If the above does not fix your problem, download and install the latest driver for your wireless adapter.
Some users have reported improved wireless performance by switching to WPA encryption.
If you continue to have problems, try the following:
For wireless g routers, try setting the "Transmission Rate" to 54 Mbps.
If you still have trouble, download and install the latest firmware for your router. After a firmware upgrade, you must reset the router to factory defaults, then setup the router again from scratch. If you saved a router configuration file, DO NOT use it.
    Hope this helps.
