IPhone WiFi off and on

Hey folks,
I have a 1st gen iPhone (for now, new one is on "direct fulfillment" whatever the **** that means w/ ATT), and I upgraded to 2.0 to get a taste of the apps. There seems to be a problem now with it's connection to my router. If i bring up Setting -> WiFi, it shows my router and the checkmark that it's connected, and i'll see the wifi symbol in the top bar, and it stays there, shows full signal, until i try something that actually involves using it, and it reverts to edge. It does this every time now, i've tried resetting the phone, the router, airplane mode on and then off, to no avail... any ideas?

in short, I was putting in the wrong password when I was connecting my iPhone to the network. Even though I was entering in the wrong password, the iPhone would place a check mark next to my wireless connection and would temporarily and frequently say it's connected. But when I would click on any icon on the home page, my iPhone would switch from wifi to 3g or edge. Once I figured out I had the wrong password, I ientered it in and haven't had the problem any more; the iPhone connects and stays connected to wifi unless I do something that can't be done over wifi such as making a call or text messaging, which then it will switch to 3g or Edge, but shorly returns to wifi after finishing.

Safari and firefox 'cannot find the server' for every other page that i navigate to, unless I turn Wifi off and on. Once i reconnect to the network, the page loads, but after loading a few more pages, the same thing happens all over again.
This happens each and every time, on different Wifi networks, in different locations.  On the other hand, I don't ever encounter this problem when I tether my laptop to my mobile phone's 3g/2g network using Personal Hotspot. How do I fix this?

    Try this DNS server ...
Open System Preferences > Network > Advanced > DNS
    Click + and type:
    208.67.222.222
Click + again and do the same.
    208.67.220.220
    Click OK.
Quit and relaunch both your browsers to test.

  • Someone has hacked my things, how do I turn wifi off, and when will it be safe to go back on?

Someone has hacked my things, how do I turn wifi off, and when will it be safe to go back on? Also, do I need to reset everything? I have already changed passwords, covered my webcam, etc. Will they still have access to my computer?

Could you explain what you mean by 'Someone has hacked my things'?

  • My iphone switched off and when I turn it back on it wants to connect to itunes

My iphone switched off and when I turn it back on it wants to connect to itunes
I was taing photo's and battery was half full - I switched it off and when I turned it on it says connect to itunes. I am not near my laptop?! What can I do

That is referred to recovery mode. At this point your only option is to restore to factory & then from a backup if you have one

  • My iPhone shut off and won't turn back on.  What should I do?

My iphone shut off and won't turn back on.  What should I do?

sometimes if the battery drains completely you will need to leave it plugged into a charger for 10-15 minutes before you get any activity at all.  this is normal

  • My iphone shut off and I can't get it back on!

My iphone shut off and won't turn back on, even if connected to the charger. I see other responses have said to hold down the power and home buttons together. Where is the home (or sleep) button? I know where the power button is. Thanks

Flip the Vibrate/Mute switch on and off, does the iPhone Vibrate? If yes, then your iPhone is on and the screen is out. If no vibrate then try the following......
Leave your iPhone connected to the Wall Charger so the Battery can charge, which may be the problem. Then after at least 30 minutes, try to turn on your iPhone. You can push the Top (Power, On/Off, Sleep) button like normal. Or you could just unplug and then replug the charger or USB cable. Connecting iPhone is a way to turn it on. If this does not work you can hold at same time Both the Home button (the button at bottom of front screen) and the Power button (the top, on/off, sleep), hold both for about 15 seconds until the iPhone turns on. Holding both these buttons at same time is called a Reset.
If this does not revive your iPhone you will have to Restore the Firmware in iTunes. Open iTunes, press the Home Button and then connect your iPhone to the computer with the USB cable, keep holding the Home Button until the iTunes screen appears on your iPhone. When iTunes prompts you Restore the Firmware.

Frustratingly, since I upgraded to Yosemite 10.10, I too am having the worst problems with WiFi dropping out. I've never had this problem before on my iMac 27-inch mid 2011 model. Turning WiFi off and then back on again sometimes works. Help please. I've already tried a lot of your suggested fixes, but without success. Why hasn't Apple Fixed this?

Please test after taking each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Stop when the problem is resolved. Back up all data before making any changes.
    Step 1
Take the applicable steps in this support article. The Wireless Diagnostics program generates a large file of information about your system, which would be used by Apple Engineering in case of a support incident. Don't post the contents here.
    Step 2
Disconnect all USB 3 devices. If you don't know which are USB 3, disconnect all USB devices except keyboard and mouse.
    Step 3
If you're not using a wireless keyboard or trackpad, disable Bluetooth by selecting Turn Bluetooth Off from the menu with the Bluetooth icon. If you don't have that menu, open the Bluetooth preference pane in System Preferences and check the box marked Show Bluetooth in menu bar. Test. If you find that Wi-Fi works better with Bluetooth disabled, you should use the 5 GHz Wi-Fi band. Your router may not support it; in that case, you need a new router.
    Step 4
Open the Energy Saver pane in System Preferences and unlock the settings, if necessary. Select the Power Adapter  tab, if there is one. Uncheck the box marked
              Wake for Wi-Fi network access
    if it's checked.
    Step 5
Open the Network pane in System Preferences and make a note of your settings in the Wi-Fi service. It may be helpful to take screenshots of the various tabs in the preference pane. If the preference pane is locked, unlock it by clicking the padlock icon and entering your administrator password. Delete Wi-Fi from the service list on the left by selecting it and clicking the minus-sign button at the bottom. Then recreate the service by clicking the plus-sign button and following the prompts.
    Step 6
    In the Wi-Fi settings, select
              Advanced... ▹ TCP/IP ▹ Configure IPv6: Link-local
    Click OK and then Apply.
    Step 7
    Reset the System Management Controller.
    Step 8
    Reset the PRAM.
    Step 9
Launch the Keychain Access application. Search for and delete all AirPort network password items that refer to the network. Make a note of the password first.
    Step 10
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service center.

  • My iphone turned off and i can't turn it on. I tried to turn it on with plugging into charger but it doesn't help. And the power button doesn't work.

My iphone turned off and i can't turn it on. I tried to turn it on with plugging into charger but it doesn't help. the problem is that the power button doesn't work.

Well, that is going to make it difficult, since the first two steps of user troubleshooting require the use of the power button. I suggest you get that fixed.

  • My ipad mini refuses to join home wifi connection. It is trying to do so continuously but with no success. I tried to reset all settings. Switched wifi off and then back on. Nothing works. The rest of devices are fine with the wifi. What shall I do next?

Maybe reboot your router. Unplug it for about 30 seconds or so and then plug it back in. Reboot your iPad while the router is powering up.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

If the reset does not help, make an appointment at the Apple store.  If your phone is out of warranty and you can't afford what they want, google for local repair services.
