Iphone wifi preference over 3g?

Hi, how can I make sure that wifi has a preference over 3g considering both connections are turned on?
Also, how can I tell if safari is using the wifi or the 3g connection?

Assuming you have wifi turned on in settings, and wifi is available. If you see this symbol !http://images.apple.com/iphone/how-to/content/images/il_wifiblue.png! in the upper left of the display on your phone, that means you're connected & using wifi. The iphone will always use wifi first, it such is available & you are connected to a wifi source. Note however, that when the iphone goes into sleep mode, wifi is turned off by default to conserve battery life & the iphone will switch to the cellular data network if a data connection is required. If you do not see the wifi symbol, but rather this symbol !http://images.apple.com/iphone/how-to/content/images/il_3g.png! that means you're using the cellular data network.

When I sync my iPhone to iTunes over WiFi the app icons do not all appear. Some are lost or some are just displaying a 'A".
Any advice here on why this might be and what I can do to fix it?

Try deleting here:
Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Look for app>Delete

Iphone wifi issues & edge

alright, here is whats going on: the iphone is connected to a wifi signal but doesn't have a regular cell signal so it cant use wifi. i try to use safari or youtube or any other internet app but it says that it couldnt connect using edge. shouldnt it be trying to use the wifi signal which is full bars? is there something i have o do inside the wifi preferences like dealing with the ip address or the http proxy? thanks for all the help

Try removing the SIM card and see if you can connect via Wifi. I get the same message, but then WiFi connects with no issues.

Another iphone wifi question

I set up my iphone to connect over wifi. It won't connect to youtube or the internet except for Google. I can update weather and access the router settings through the phone. It will still connect over edge. Any solutions to this problem?

I found the answer in another post. I have a Belkin router and this is what I did and got it to work:
Now go to the WiFi settings in your iPhone and under your network press "Static."
In the IP address put 192.168.2.50
The Subnet Mask should read 255.255.255.0
The Router should read 192.168.2.1
In the DNS put 4.2.2.2

Airport Time Capsule Caused iPhone Wifi Gray Out

My new Airport Time Capsule (2 TB) and my MacBook Pro connect via wifi, but my iPhone 4S (iOS 6.1.3 upgrade months ago - no problems) did not detect my TC. The iPhone wifi icon disappeared while I was looking for my TC in the list of wifi signals and wifi is now grayed out in my iPhone Settings. I tried the various remedies for wifi gray out many people apparently experienced upon iOS 6.1.3 upgrade, but none worked, not even delete/restore. Does anyone have any suggestions? Has anyone heard of this happening during TC setup? Thanks.

Apple claims the Airport Time Capsule had nothing to do with the iPhone gray out issue, which they say is an out of warranty iPhone hardware issue. The apparent solution is to purchase a new iPhone 4s for $199.
I had my iPhone a little over 500 days. Let's call it 500 even, which is 720,000 minutes or 43,200,00 seconds.
Qs: What is the probability that a wifi hardware flaw unrelated to my attempt to establish a wifi link to the TC would materialize in the very minute of a link attempt? What is the probability of witnessing the resulting the gray out the very second it occurred?
(I know some of you are thinking the probabilities are 100% for me. Very funny.)

Ipad and Iphone WIFI speed tested weird results

Just to help (or make it worse).
I am sitting at my desk and testing my IPad and my Iphone.
I am running the speedtest app from the app store.
The Iphone consistenly gets 14+mbit download (I have a 50mbit ISP link) and just under 5mbit Upload (I have a 5mbit upload link).
The IPAD gets at BEST 7.8mbit down, but also gets just under 5mbit up. So it's even weirder than it seems. The IPAD gets the same upload speed and 1/2 the download speed.
I am testing them on the same network, same location, same everything (wireless G only setting on Router). I am testing them one after the other not simultaneously.
Oh and I couldn't get the IPAD to connect to Wirless N AT ALL.

Lots of iPad users are plagued by terrible slow wifi connections. There was a thread here "weak wifi" with over 80,000 views and 37 pages of replies.
I too had the same issue then I changed my N capable router to G only mode and my speed Is amazing. Well this is not a solution but hopefully temporary work around until apple comes out with a firmware update.
Write to apple in their iPad feedback form so that they listen to it.they don't look at the forums supposedly.

Correct. it does not magially appear in other places. It will only be where you put it.

Correct as well. Iphone will sync with one computer at a time. Syncing to another will erase the current content.
You need to copy everything ( itunes library/contacts/pics/calendars/files/docs) from the old computer, or your backup copy of the old one, to the new one.

After having my iphone 4 for over a year, the front screen cracks :(

So after having my Iphone 4 for over a year and purchasing the apple CARE protection plan, apple is acting as if they do not care about me and my phone. I have never traded in my phone and never had a problem with it until now. My screen is cracked and when i tried to go to the store to get it fixed, all they tell me is sorry you have to get a new phone for $199. My husband and iI are a huge apple fans. We have a mac book, mac mini, ipad 1 and 2 and 2 iphone4s. We are very loyal to Apple, but after this experience, I don't see how i can continue to be. I purchased the apple care plan and thought i would be able to use it since i never had a problem with my phone but they proved me wrong. I didn't want to have to purchase a whole new phone with the iphone 5 coming out because i plan to purchase that in the first shipment. I'm so disapointed and heart broken. I don't know what to do. I wanna cry right now. When it rains it pours. Just disapointed that this had to happen with APPLE!!!! and now i'm reading some of these responces and learning that some people have gotten their phones changed for FREE?!?!?!?!?!? What's up with that? I feel apple should give everyone one OOPS clause. and after that then you have to fend for yourself especially if we have to pay for a protection plan that we will not use or will not transfer to another phone.

In Uruguay in Cellular Center (+598 2 903 3333) that is where I buyed it told me it has no solution, it´s a problem of hardware accepted by Apple, that Apple change the phone in this cases, but that they can´t change it by another new one because their warrantee is 3 months and I bought in december, 2012. It cost me US$ 1,250 and I want a solution because I saw in the Apple web that iPhone warrantee is 1 year and I am still covered by it.
I have the invoice dated December 24, 2012.
Do you have any solution to my problem?
It is hard to believe that a so expensive iPhone has a life of 6 months.

Unable to sync my iphone with itunes over wi-fi

This might be me be being extremely dumb, but I am unable to sync my iphone with itunes over wi-fi. I have itunes 10.5 on windows, have iOS 5. When I plug my phone into my computer I have ticked the box on the device summary screen enabling wi-fi sync but when I go into my iPhone menu, the "sync now" box is greyed out and it just says that it will resume sync when my computer is available.
Any suggestions>??

When I unplug the iPad, iPod or other iPhone, the device stays in the devices list in iTunes
When I unplug my iPhone, it disappears from the devices list (which makes me think it's iTunes being petulant)
Have tried rebooting bot windows and the iPhone, disabling the firewall and 'repairing' iTunes
It's a 64 bit windows 7, FWIW, but the other iPhone 4 talks nice to a 64 bit windows 7

IPhone wifi-network problem- Please Help!

I have a problem with my iPhone4. It could only connect to the internet for a couple of minute then it dropped off. But it is still connect to the wifi though and in my Mac the wifi seem to be working fine. Any ideas?

Restore as new, if wifi works add your backup and proceed .If after backup issue returns
Then you have a corrupt backup
If when restored as new no wifi then you probably have hardware issue and should take it to an Apple Store genius bar

Thanks for the swift reply, I have been looking online and a loose plug seems to be somewhat of an issue with many, I hope mine is actually a problem and not what others are experiencing. It's taken me this long to even reach out for the simple fact I HATE being a complainer but this is just horrible.
Do you have an iPad 3 as well? And is yours not experiencing any issues close to mine?
