IPhone will not boot up

I was using my iPhone 3G as normal this afternoon, composing an email to my brother, when it froze completely at the email screen. Wouldn't respond to either button or to touchscreen input. Holding the top button to try to switch it off didn't work. Eventually I held both buttons to do a hard reset, which successfully shut the phone down. When it switched back on, the silver apple appeared. Then the little animated "loading" circle appeared. Then the animated circle stopped moving. After a minute or two, the screen flashed white, and went back to displaying the silver apple. This cycle repeated over and over for two hours (I was on a long train trip home); if I tried another hard reset, it would just restart the cycle.
I stopped at the Apple section of a big electronics store on the way home, and the guy there tried to reset my phone (by holding both buttons) which of course didn't work. He said there was probably a problem with the OS and I should try hooking it up to my computer.
When I got home I hooked my iPhone up to my PC but nothing happened. The PC didn't register that anything had been connected. I tried using the same cable and USB port to connect my iPod to the PC and it worked just fine, so there's no problem with the physical connection. But even while plugged into the PC, the iPhone continually goes through the same failed boot cycle, over and over and over.
I can't connect my iPhone to my PC so I can't do a Restore to get it working. Hard reset does nothing. I'm going to try to find time to get to an Apple store tomorrow, but my closest one is over 90 minutes away, so any suggestions in the meantime would be much appreciated!
(I think I'm still on OS 3.1.2 but I can't boot up my iPhone to check :/)

If your iPhone is not recognized by your computer without being in recovery mode - by iTunes or namely as a digital camera for importing the photos from the Camera Roll, no. You can wait and re-visit the Apple store to see if there is anything they can do but if your iPhone cannot be recognized by your computer when connected without being in recovery mode, it probably won't be any different at the Apple store. It might be worth the wait to see.

  • My father's iphone will not boot. We live in Barbados but the phone was bought in the US. Is there any way to fix this, or does he need a new phone, and is this covered by warranty?

My father has owned his iphone for almost exactly 9 months. The phone was purchased in the US when he was on holiday. We live in Barbados, but the phone should still be under warranty. (please correct me if I'm wrong). He says the phone will not boot, it is inconsistent with showing how much battery life it has and it keeps looping because it's always trying to reboot. He treats his electronics very well and the phone is in perfect condition. Is there any way that this can be fixed without him losing all the information on the phone? Or can he get a replacement phone (due to the warranty issue)?

Have you tried any basic troubleshooting
    restart
    reset
    Restore
    See user guide

    Hello...
i replaced the the LCD screen on my iphone 3g and all i get when i power it on is the apple logo and a swirling progress bar that doesnt move, this loops every 5 or so minutes but does not progress to the password screen.....
    Please anyone..???

    Greg,
You can try searching the Internet for a 3rd-party company that will repair iPods and iPhones.
Hardware issues caused by disassembly or unauthorized service are not covered by the iPhones warranty. This webpage: http://www.apple.com/legal/warranty/ provides more details about the iPhones warranty.

  • IPhone will not boot after DFU and Restore

I'm having a problem booting up my phone. I tried to turn in on the other day and it would hang up at the apple logo screen with a little loading circle running behind it. I put the phone into DFU mode and restored it twice but it still won't boot past the apple logo. Is there anything else I can do? Is this phone just dead? I'm out of warranty and any help is appreciated.

Just did a hard reset on the phone and turned it back on. Seems like it's stuck in an endless boot. The phone will:
    1. Turn on and display just the apple logo
    2. Display the apple logo with a loading circle
    3. Screen goes blank for a second then comes back on
    4. and then the whole sequence happens again.
Any ideas? I don't live near an apple store to have them look at it and fix it. Is there anything else I can do? What's apple's out of warranty repair cost?

I restored my iphone to ne newest iOS7.1.1 without losing my preferences, passcode, photos, music, pdf, ibooks, apps and app data and so on. After Restoring i saved the app data and photos with the tool itools.
I think its a good solution for people, which not backup there data with itunes and icloud.

  • My info will not boot up. Stops at the Apple emblem.

My IPhone will not boot up. The apple emblem lights up them fads out. This continues to happen every 15 minutes are so. How do I get the IPhone 4s to boot up?

Try a reset by holding the power and home keys down until the Apple logo appears - 15 to 20 seconds.

    Hi JACOBfromINSIDEaLION,
If you are unable to get your iPhone to restore, you will want to perform a restore from recovery mode, as explained in the following article:
If you can't update or restore your iOS device

    Hi battye,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
In this situation where your iPhone will not start up past the Apple logo, there are several troubleshooting steps I would recommend. Please use the attached article as a reference to troubleshoot.

If you want to solve your problems, unjailbreak. And don't do it again, because jailbreaking causes problems as you read about in that article. You can try Recovery Mode: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808

Obviously since you have iOS 7 you're a developer.  As a developer, you signed a NDA with Apple not to discuss the iOS on a public forum.  Please log in to the Developer Forum using your credentials and ask for help there, lest you risk having your credentials terminated.
Thanks, and best of luck to you.

    Spill Cleaning
And, don't think that just because it was two teaspoons and not a glassful that there is a difference.
Some liquid has just spilled into your Mac. What should you do?
    Do
Immediately shut down the computer and unplug the power cord.
Remove the computer's battery (if you can)
Disconnect any peripherals (printers, iPods, scanners, cameras, etc.)
Lay the computer upside down on paper towels to get as much liquid as possible to drip out.
Note what was spilled on your Mac.
Bring the computer into an Apple store or AASP as soon as possible.
    Don't
Don't try to turn it back on. Liquids can help electrical current move about the components of your Mac in destructive ways.
Don't shake the computer (this will only spread the liquid around).
Don't use a hair dryer on it (even at a low setting a hair dryer will damage sensitive components).
Do not put in a bag of rice in as much as rice will get into the ports and optical drive and do further damage.

  • IPhone 3G 16GB will not boot.

OK, trying this question again in the right section. :P
Well I have a 16GB iphone 3G here in my hand that is stuck in a repeating reboot and will not boot up
Long story short, I don't know if the handset previously worked. it was handed to me and i received a "I bet you cant fix this" from a work colleague.
Well I have downloaded the 2.2.1 firmware on windows and Mac and tried to install it.
"iTunes can not connect to the iPhone (error 1600)"
Tried again in DFU mode and clicked restore on 2.2.1 and same error message but this time it was error 1601
Tried a fresh install. Downladed iTunes 8 on Mac AND windows,
Placed the handset into restore mode on both machines and downloaded 2.2.1 again.
This time the firmware package opens and tries to send to the iPhone but I get the
"cant connect to the iphone or the iphone failed to respond (error 23)"
what else can I do to try and get the handset operating again?
The handset has NEVER been abused or dropped and its been sitting in its box for a while and looks to me like an out of box failure. There is not a mark on it, Even still covered in the plastic the iPhone comes with when you first take it out of the box.
Anyone else got some ideas to get this thing up and running?
    Cheers.
(oh and PS, I have another iPhone that works 100% on all machines so its not hardware faults on the computer/cables end.
    Cheers.
PS called Apple Tech support and they dont have 1600, 1601 and 23 errors in their data base to give me a explanation on what they mean.. Woot!

No unfortunatly. when the handset is on the dock or other usb charger the handset will display the Apple logo like its going to boot. 2 min later the handset will automatically restart and do the whole thing over again. OR sometimes the screen will go dark like the LED is off, but you can only faintly see the Apple logo.
I have been back on the phone to apple tech support and she again could not help me fix the issue. (altho all we did was basic trouble shooting like I already have)
The handset seems to display Error 23 alot now.
itunes will ONLY recognize the handset in DFU mode, then when I do a force restore, it will fail with error 23.
If i plug the handset into iTunes like normal, The iphone will only boot and reboot, iTunes will not pick it up.
The handset has been on charge or connected to power all day.
    wow... what an annoying problem

  • Iphone 4 will not boot up, the apple logo does not go away

The phone will not boot up, the apple logo stays on and does not finish booting.  All I did was delete an app, I went to reboot the phone becasue it was running slow and now it wont boot up at all.  I've tried the hard reset and nothing

And then if that fails try this:
What is DFU: Device Firmware Upgrade
Step 1: Turn off your iPod touch / iPhone completely and connect to PC / mac
Step 2: Hold down the Power button for 3 seconds
Step 3: Without releasing the power button, also hold the Home button for 10 seconds
Step 4: Without releasing the home button, release the power button and keep holding the Home button  for 20 seconds.
Itunes will identify that you are in DFU mode.
