IPhone will only connect to internet using Wi-Fi

Brand new iPhone 3g.
Internet works fine when I have Wi-Fi service.
If there is no Wi-Fi network to connect to, the phone cannot access the internet.
Any suggestions?

You got it boss. Apparently sometimes I can take a while for the plan to get updated after it is created. The phone support guy went ahead and forced the plan to update, and the internet started working.
Thanks for the help.

  • MBP upgraded to Yosemite and now will not connect to Internet using a Cisco router

I Upgraded my MBP mid 2010 to Yosemite and now it will not connect to Internet using a system that involves typing in my user name and password in an auto pop up window provided by Cisco security systems. Before, using Mavericks, it worked perfectly: boot up MBP and the Cisco pop up auto loaded. Typed it my password and hey presto, connected to Internet. Now, zilch. There is nothing wrong with the Cisco cos my iPad connects ok, as do both my iPhone's.
the problem is with Yosemite therefore. Please help. I tried all the usual diags, etc to no avail.

Sounds like there could be some kind of compatibility issue between ICS and this Bluetooth device of yours. Is there any compatibility info from the manufacturer about which Android versions that's being supported?

  • Iphone will not connect to Internet without WIFI connection

My iphone will not connect to the internet without a wifi connection.
I have restored the settings many times. But i still have this problem.
I get a message on safari which says 'could not activate celluar data network'
    what do i do?

If you have restored your iPhone with iTunes from your iPhone's backup and as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup with no change, have you contacted O2? Your line may need to be reset by O2, which will involve turning your iPhone off whole O2 does the reset at the server, or possibly there is a problem with your SIM card.

  • IPad will not connect to Internet using 3G

I have an iPad 2 with both wi fi and 3G capabilities. I purchased Verizon month to month plan once I purchased it from the Apple store. My iPad works fine with wi fi but if I am on the road and try to use my 3G it randomly will stop working for days then suddenly will work again. And yes my account is always paid up with Verizon so I don't understand why I can't connect to Internet unless I use my wifi. Any suggestions?

Check with Verizon to see if they have good coverage in the areas where you don't get 3G.

  • My MBP will only connect to internet if VPN is active. How to fix?

Hey guys. I've been having trouble for a while now with my MBP connecting to the internet.
I usually use a L2TP VPN, and the internet works fine when I have the VPN activated. The problem is that there are times when I need to use the internet without my VPN...and websites will not load if the VPN is turned off. To complicate this further, my VPN likes to deactivate itself sometimes, and when that happens I can't use the internet at all.
This is really bizarre. Can someone help me?
In summary: I can use the internet with VPN. I cannot use the internet without VPN. I want to be able to use internet with or without VPN. Thanks!

Try to change this settings on your Router, This should fix your problem.
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop). In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1 and press Enter...Leave Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
For Wireless Settings, please do the following : -
    Click on the Wireless tab
    - Here select manual configuration...Wireless Network mode should be mixed...
    - Provide a unique name in the Wireless Network Name (SSID) box in order to differentiate your network from your neighbors network...
    - Set the Radio Band to Standard-20MHz and change the Standard channel to 11-2.462GHz...Wireless SSID broadcast should be Enabled and then click on Save Settings...
Please make a note of Wireless Network Name (SSID) as this is the Network Identifier...
    For Wireless Security : -
Click on the Sub tab under Wireless > Wireless Security...
Change the Wireless security mode to WPA, For Encryption, select TKIP...For Passphrase input your desired WPA Key. For example , MySecretKey , This will serve as your network key whenever you connect to your wireless network. Do NOT give this key to anyone and remember the key.
NOTE : Passphrase should be more that 8 characters...
    Click on Advanced Wireless Settings
Change the Beacon Interval to 75,Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304,Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 and Click on Save Settings...
Now see if you can locate your Wireless Network and attempt to connect...

OR does mean I will have to buy the new iphone in Sep!!!!

Well either way, get the new iPhone in september, and if this gives you a reason to do so, by all means go for it. Haha, but other wise your 3GS might be having a problem reading the wifi signal, that has happened to my first iPad and took it to apple and they said that the internal iPad part had gone bad.

    What version of iOS?
Is the router running the latest version of available firmware?
Are any other devices having issues connecting to the router?
Does the iPhone have the same issue with other Wi-Fi hot spots?

My iphone 4s will only connect to my home network. Any other I join (eg:starbucks) internet says connection error. Even though the phone says it's connected.

Since  I have upgraded the the latest iOS in my iPhone 4S , this problem started and eventually the white button for Wi-fi stopped working. The one day before switching off the phone , I took out the SIM and reset the Networking and didn't switch on. Then I wrapped the phone with tissue paper and kept it in the deep refrigerator for 25 to 30 minutes and after cleaning frosty layer, I turned on the phone.... Somehow the Wi-fi button started working and the Wi-fi network too. Then only I inserted the SIM . Magic..!! My phone is still working fine . But I have to do this process once or twice a month every time Wi-fi stops working. Good luck my friend....hope you get benefitted !!

  • I use an iphone 3gs can i set one of the song as ring tone or i will only be able to use the inbuilt ringtones?

i use an iphone 3gs can i set one of the song as ring tone or i will only be able to use the inbuilt ringtones?

    yes you can
    A. how to make a ringtone using iTunes
First, open up iTunes in order to make a ringtone using iTunes. Find the song you want to turn into a ringtone by browsing through your music library.
Next, find exactly what part of the song you want to make a ringtone using iTunes. For example, if you want to use a specific section of the song from 21 seconds to 40 seconds, make a note of where you want the ringtone to begin and end.
Now, right click on the song you want to turn into a ringtone. Click "Get Info". Now, in order to make a ringtone using iTunes, click the "Options" tab.
Check the "Start Time" check box. Type in the point in the song where you want the ringtone to start in the format "minute:seconds" (e.g. the second mark would be 0:20). You can also be more precise by adding a period and putting milliseconds in after that (e.g. 0:20.150, would be 20.150 seconds). Also, click the "Stop Time" check box and enter where you would like the ring tone to end. Keep in mind ringtones can only be around 39 seconds maximum. Press "Ok". We are almost done making a ringtone in iTunes
Now, right click on the same song. Select "Convert AAC Version". If it is in another file format, you can go to "Edit" then "Preferences" and under the "General" tab click "Import Settings"; change the file format to AAC. After you select "Convert AAC Version" a new file will be created, but it will only be the segment of the song that you specified earlier.
Now, you have to find the file you just created. Right click on the new, shorter song and select "Open in Windows Explorer". The file extension should be .m4a. Rename the extension to .m4r by right clicking the file and selecting "Rename".
Now you can delete the shortened version of the song in your iTunes library. Then, double click the .m4r file and it will loaded into your iTunes Ringtone list. Now you can make a ringtone using iTunes!

my iphone will not connect to my wifi only just started to do this the last 2 days sometimes the wifi turns on other time no often then not it will not turn on could u help ?

Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.
If the problem is still not resolved, take the device to Apple for evaluation and possible replacement.
Verizon does not provide hardware support, taking the device to them would be a waste of time.

Are there any other wireless devices that might cause interference?
Also are there any nearby Wi-Fi networks that might have the same name as yours? It amazing how many Linksys Wi-Fi networks are out there.
