IPhone wiped. Key photo in events wrong

Hello all
iPhone 4s with current software. Snow Leopard 10.7.4, using iPhoto 11
Been having problems with iPhone 4s decided to wipe the phone completely to start fresh. At same time I created a brand new iPhoto library with all new Events and new assigned key photos. With the new iPhoto library there wasn't any iPod cache folder when using the Show Package Contents option.
After setting up the iPhone from being wiped, I synced it to iPhoto. All of the pictures transferred successfully to iPhone however on many of the Events it is showing the incorrect key photo (on the iPhone, but in iPhoto it is correct). The only thing that didn't change is the iTunes library.
I've unchecked/checked the sync Photo option in iTunes then resync'ed still same issue. I've deleted the iPod cache folder in iPhoto then resync, same issue where certain events is displaying the wrong key photo on iPhone.
Any ideas?

Key photos are a feature for events in iphoto, the tv does not work with iphoto the way it does with itunes.

  • Showing only key photo from events within an album using iphoto 11

I'm using iphoto 11 and want to show only the key photos from events in an album. I don't want to see every photo from every event in the album, I only want to view the key photos from each event in the album. When I drag the event into the album every photo from each event is shown in the album.
I do have some events in an album with only the key photo showing but can't get all the events to display this way in the album. Any suggestions?

Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder.
(On 10.7: Hold the option (or alt) key while clicking on the Go menu in Finder to access the User Library)
(Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    What's the plist file?
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.

  • Can't set key photo in Events

I have created numerous Events which are labeled and contain pictures, but in the Events window, teachhe group just appears as a black square with the title of the event underneath it in white. When I scroll down the full Events window or move the picture size setting, I can see a key photo for each event, but then when I stop, the black squares (where the picture should show) reappear. So when I click on "i" to set change or set a key photo, there is just a black square - no photo.
When I open the Event group, I do see all the photos in the group. I looked at the Online Help and didn't see this problem addressed.
I'm new to this version of iPhoto, so there must be a setting I have missed.
    Thanks for your help.
    Thanks.

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.

  • Key photo in events

ATV seem to ignore key photo when viewing synced photos from iPhoto. It just shows first photo in left to event title. Is there a way to fix this?

  • Key photos on events in photo app?

Since I've updated to iOS 5 I've noticed that the main photos for my events are just the first photo in the event, and not the photo that I have selected as the key photo in iPhoto. It's small, but it's annoying. Does anyone know a way around this? Thanks!

but just doesn't have the features when I have spent hours tagging, editing and sorting all my photos in iPhoto on my iPad and  desktop.
You cannot add tags and captions in Photos iOS 8, and you cannot see them when opening a photo. But the tags you added previously are still there when you migrate the iPhoto library to Photos. You will see that, when you use the search field and enter one of your tags or a caption. This will find all photos with this tagged you then can create an album of all tagged photos for each tag. Creating albums with distinctive names is the new way of tagging. You can search for album names.
I share your sentiments entirely, and I hope Apple will provide an update to Photos soon or offer app extensions to add the missing features.

  • IOS 5 Photos - Event Key Photos Wrong

Since updating to iOS 5, the Photos app on my iPhone 4S is showing all the wrong Key Photos for the Events. Rather than using the Key Photos I defined in iPhoto, it is simply using the first photo in every Event.
Has anyone else noticed this? It worked fine prior to installing iOS 5. iOS 5 is clearly the thing that broke it.

Yes, prior to owning my iPhone 4S, I had an iPhone 3GS which I installed iOS 5. And that iPhone 3GS had exactly the same problem with the Key Photos for Events. So the bug clearly is in iOS 5.
Where can I find your post?

  • Key Photo

It appears that EVERYTIME there is an iPhoto update, it messes up the key photos in Events and Albums.
After updating to the latest version (9.4.2) of iPhoto on my MacBook Pro, the key photos do not match with the key photos in the Photos app of my iPhone and iPad. I have tried:
    1. setting up "key photos" (right clicking in a picture and setting it as key photo) and sync iOS via iTunes - didn't change anything
    2. deselected all events and albums and sync devices; and then selected to sync all events and albums (having over five thousand pictures to sync does take its time - approximately over two hours and a half) - but still did not change the key photos
    3. in iPhoto, adjusted date and time of the photo I wanted to assign as key photo so that it would be the first photo in each event and album - still did not change the key photos in iOS devices
Is there a way so that the key photos would be the same throughout all devices?

    Hi Tom,
    same problem.
I've already tried to rebuild the iPhoto database but nothing has changed.
I'm facing this issue with both iPhone 3GS (iOS 5.1.1) and iPad 2 (same iOS release) - iPhoto 9.4.2.
    Does anyone have a solution?
    thanks,
    Andrea

  • Photo Library Events Sync

Is there any way to change key photo of events copied to iPhone? I have set a key photo in every iPhoto event, but the iPhone library uses the first pic of every event as a key photo.

  • Key Photos missing for a third of my library

In events view, each event is supposed to have a key photo. Most of my library does, but part of the library (all events with dates between Jan 2007 and November 2007) does not have any key photos. These events are not different from other events (they all have normal JPEG photos, etc.). If I try to set a key photo, the event is still blank in events view.
    Any ideas?

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the apple and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
    If that fails:
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
To back up: Copy the iPhoto Library in your Pictures Folder to another disk to back it up. You can use an app such as DejaVu or Chronosync to do incremental back ups of the Library. There are many other options: search on MacUpdate.

  • Selecting Key Photo in Faces

Is there a way to make a photo a key photo in Faces similar to the way you can make a key photo in events?  For some of the people in faces, the pictures appearing are years old, even baby pictures.

Yes, and pretty much the same way. Move your mouse across the Face icon to scrub through the pics and when you see one you want then right click and choose 'Make key Photo'.

My new yahoo account nestles comfortably in iCloud on the mine iPad.
No, your Yahoo account is not in iCloud (which only handles iCloud mail), it is in Yahoo, and the Yahoo mail account is on your iPad.
But the MacBook Pro will have none of it! I write this question now as I fear that I will be totally demented very soon and unable to formulate my thoughts clearly!
Get the correct settings for your account from Yahoo and set it up manually.
By the way, I also find the "password" issue problematical. It seems Apple want my Apple password rather than my eMail password. All very confusing.
That would depend on what you are trying to do.

  • In downloading my Events from iPhoto on my Mac to my iPad Air, the Events arrive in the proper order but not showing the Key Photo.  At the same time, the Events arrive in iPhoto on the iPad in totally random order but showing the Key Photo. Why?

In downloading my Events from iPhoto on my Mac to my Ipad Air, the Events arrive in Photos in the correct order but not showing the Key photo. At the same time, the Events arrive in iPhoto in a totally random order but with the Key phto showing. Why? of course and is there a way to shift the order in Iphoto and get a Key photo in Photos?

HHi, thank you for the reply. I have checked my iPad and iPhone and neither has iCloud Photo Library (Beta) enabled. Turned off in both. Photostream is turned on.
i tried to sort it out  by dragging all the photos to Events on the Mac and then deleting them from iCloud - (left hand side of iPhoto under the section 'Shared'). the photos now show up in Events. I did force quit but the issue remains. The message reads ' photos are bing imported to the library. Please wait for import to complete.'
i can't empty iPhoto trash either. The message read "Delete error. Please wait for import to complete.'
WHen I was moving the photos to the Events I always had a message about duplicates - to the effect that the photos already existed, did I want to import them? I clicked on Yes, import all duplicates. But when it showed the images - duplicates side by side - one showed the photo and the other was blank.
I really don't know what to do! And I don't know how to handle my iOS devices. Is it to do with the large number of photos? Any help, advice appreciated.

  • Transfer key pictures and events sorted in the right order to iPhone

I have organized all events in iPhoto somewhat like this:
    2010-04-01 Event 1
    2010-04-03 Event 2
    etc
The events are nicely sorted by the dates in iPhoto ..... but not in the iPhone, where some are just displayed in a different sequence.
Also the key pictures are not transferred to the iPhone.

actually there was, but let me try again
on iPhoto the events are sorted nicely according to folder names, but after synchronization to the iPhone the events on the iPhone are sorted more like last added event. How to achieve on the iPhone the same sorting as in iPhoto?
At the same time the defined key photos are not transferred to the iPhone. How to do this?

  • Make Key Photo on iPhone

Is there any way to change the key photo that displays on an album on the iPhone? I know on iPhoto you can do this by holding down the spacebar when the photo displays on the event thumbnail. Is there any way to do this on the iPhone? I have several albums, but every time a new photo is added, it becomes the key photo.

There is not a Key Photo option with iPhoto albums.
There is a Key Photo option with iPhoto Events only.
An Event's Key Photo should not change after an event is transferred to the iPhone.
When I add an additional photo to an iPhoto album that was previously transferred to my iPhone followed by a sync, the additional photo added does not become the photo shown for the album when viewing the albums under Photo Library on my iPhone.
With my iPhoto albums, I have manually selected for photo sorting with iPhoto so I can manually sort the photos in an album in the order I prefer. The order of photos I've manually sorted with an iPhoto album is retained after the album is transferred to my iPhone.
The iPhone's Photo app CANNOT make any changes. The changes are occurring when the album is transferred.
What is your selecting for sorting photos within the iPhoto albums you've selected to be transferred to your iPhone? Does the first photo available in an iPhoto album in iPhoto selected to be transferred to your iPhone appear as the photo for the album on your iPhone?

  • IPhoto crashed. When reopened, 70  some events were grayed out (no photos).  Restored iPhoto library from Time Machine, fewer grayed events.  Said yes to a msg on fixing library, 3K more photos. Still wrong.  What next to do?

iPhoto crashed. When reopened, 70+  some events were grayed out (no photos).  Restored iPhoto library from Time Machine, fewer grayed events.  Said yes to a msg on fixing library, 3000 more photos. Still wrong.  What next to do?

Do you still have the library that you were using when the crash occurred?  If so apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
