IPhone wireless printing with Envoy 4500

I'm having trouble setting up my Envoy 4500 for printing by iphone at home  When using the wireless setup wizard, it asks for a WPA/WEP password. I have no idea what that is. I've trying using the password for connecting to my home WiFi, but that doesn't work. Some advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi, Sounds like it is trying to connect to a different network, could be your neighbor's. Please use your HOME network SSID, then your normal password at home will work. Regards.

The problem is not the router.. the issue is the vpn has put your computer in a different IP range with a different gateway. When you turn off the vpn the computer returns to local lan and can print.
Some vpn software allows you to set gateway to use local net instead of remote gateway or access to other webistes or local lan.
    Read up the issue.

I did not search much.. just grabbed the first article I could find that explains the issue.
The whole point of the vpn is whilst it is connected your computer is NOT part of the Local Lan .. it is part of the Remote LAN via the vpn tunnel.
It is also a security risk using split tunnelling so often it will not be allowed.
Plug the printer directly into the computer via usb or whatever.. Local connection will work.. not local lan.

  • Can't use my HP Deskjet F4580 Wireless Printer with the AirPort Extreme Base. The printer is NOT connected at the USB port of the AirPort Extreme, and is placed in another room. It worked just fine with my previous router (Linksys WRT54G). Help me!

    Hey Guys!
I just got my AirPort Extreme Base, but I can't use my HP Deskjet F4580 wireless printer with it.
The printer is not connected to the AirPort Extreme's USB port. It is placed in another room, and I'd like to use it (the printer) wirelessly (not connected to the USB port os the AirPort Extreme), as I used to. There is no place for the printer close the AirPort Extreme. It worked just fine with my previous wireless router (Linksys WRT54G). I'm very disappointed with the AirPort Extreme Base Station because of that!...
    Can you help me? Please?!
    Thanks Folks!

This must be a tough one, no suggestions at all.

  • Can't print to HP LaserJet Prof. P1102w_1 wireless printer with my iPad.

I cannot print to HP LaserJet Prof. P1102w_1 wireless printer with my iPad although it appears that this is a compatible printer.  My computer prints to this printer.  All other components of my wireless options and router are working.

    Hi,
Did you updated the printer firmware?
The P1102w only support AirPrint with the latest firmware, not with the version shipped with the device.

Best way is to use an AirPrint compatible printer:

  • I want to use my jetpack 890L as a wireless router to allow wireless printing with a canon laser printer. Is this possible, and does the jetpack support WPS?

I want to use my jetpack 890L as a wireless router to enable wireless printing with a canon laser printer. Is this possible, and does the jetpack support WPS?

I’ve used several wireless printers with a 4510 and 5510 Jetpack and they all print just fine. The MHS890L does not support WPS. The WPS Wikipedia article briefly addresses the reason why you should not use WPS.  If you’re having trouble setting up your printer the manufacturer has a toll free support line to help you. Your Jetpack has the Wi-Fi Password on the bottom, under the battery, and or in the LED display.

  • Wireless Printing with PowerBook G4 17"

We have two PowerBook 17" G4s. We bought an HP 1320 LaserJet which works fine when cable-connected, but we want to set up for wireless printing to maximize our flexibility in computing and minimize wear-and-tear on the cable connections on our computers.
We have recently learned from HP that they don't support Macs for wireless printing with this printer (although they do support Windows with it for wireless printing)
Can anyone recommend a reliable, good-quality B&W laser jet type printer which is capable of wireless connections with Apple PowerBooks? We are set up for DSL using LinkSys modem, and LinkSys has been no help in this matter. Thanks for any help or advice ...

If it's an ethernet printer then you should be able to plug it into a wireless router and print from the mac over the network. All you should need to do is to enter the printer's ip address when setting it up on the mac and it should just work - OSX has the ppd files built in for most laserjets.
If not ethernet, then you have to find a usb to wireless adapter - they do exist, and then the printer will act much like any other network device. Linksys make a wireless usb print server. Try a google search for "54g usb adapter" but make sure anything you buy will work on a printer - ie pick up an ip address from the router.
Bear in mind, that if it starts to get pricey to do this, it might be more cost effective to switch to an ethernet enabled laser printer which will work seamlessly. I recently picked up a Dell 3100cn which is really very good - if big, but the output is excellent quality and it was better value to get a new printer than get the bits to make my current printer wireless and replace the toner. Just a thought. Apparently the Dell refurb shop is very good and quite cheap.
    Good luck.
PS - Wireless routers are really quite cheap, Belkin, Netgear and Linksys are fairly inexpensive - I found circuit city to be quite good.

Roaminggnome has the list......pick on of those TERRIBLE printers and go for it....
I hope Apple see fit to broaden this list, because, having thrown away several of those brands in my life, I now have a network compatble BROTHER printer that's awesome,

    Hello dobis11011,
You have verified a lot of common factors that can interfere with the printing method that you want to use.
I would also try some additional steps, you can try to print after each step to isolate the causing factor:
Verify Bluetooth is off (preferred setting).
Power your iPhone off and then on.
Press the home button twice and end the HP ePrint Home & Biz app from the multitasking section.
Delete the app and re-download it from the Apple App Store, as it is a free app.
If I have solved your issue, please feel free to provide kudos and make sure you mark this thread as solution provided!

  • Can't find wireless printer with E2000 router

I have a Dell Inspiron 1720 (running Vista Home Premium) that connects to my Linksys E2000 and to a wireless printer, the Canon MX870.  It's been working for months without problems.
I just got a Toshiba Satellite P770-BT4G22 Laptop (running Window 7 Professional 64 bit) and installed the Cisco Connect software following the instructions where you have already set up the router and just need to install the software to do things like add a device.  I can connect to the router fine using a web browser or the Cisco Connect Software and my Toshiba connects to the Internet through the router without problems.
The problem is Cisco Connect says it can't find a wireless printer when I run it on my new Toshiba.  I've put the printer within 3 feet of the router with my Toshiba in between but still it can't find it.  My Dell in another room connects to the printer no problem.  And I can print to the Canon if I  select the Shared Canon Printer ( on the Dell) using the Toshiba's Control Panel Add Printer function.  But obviously that means the Dell has to be on so that's not good for much more than troubleshooting.  I've also wired a connection from the printer to the Toshiba and downloaded the latest driver, printed that way so I know that's not the problem.  The problem is that Cisco Connect can't find the printer.  It says there are 6 devices attached to my router so it's seeing something, but I guess not the printer.  I've turned any firewalls off for this testing too.
I'm stumped as to why it can't find the printer when the Dell did and they are all on the same network. Unless it's not compatible with 64 bit Windows.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I have already added the printer to my network using Windows Add Printer prior to assigning the printer a static IP.  But I followed your instructions in making the IP static so if I reset the router I don't have to go through the process again.
When I ran CC and told it to add a printer, it did not identify any printer for me, it went from the screen where you say to add a printer to one where it asked me to name the printer.  Honestly, I wasn't even sure if it was referring to the Canon because I'd already added it using Windows, albeit without a static IP, just by knowing what IP it had been assigned.  After I gave it the name, it went back to the "home" screen with computers & devices, parental controls, etc.  No errors, but no real way to see or change what I had done.
That's why I was asking if there's a way to look at the router and view devices that have a static IP.  I can view the DHCP table but it's not there of course.  I don't really see anywhere using the router software (either by web connection or CC) where the Canon printer is listed.  I see it in Windows Printers, but I saw it there before I reran  CC and it asked me to name it.
I appreciate your help and I'm glad to be up and running with it.  Especially with having a static IP.  I'm just trying to better understand what happened and how to view my devices connected to the router.
Thank you very much for your help.

  • HP Photosmart C5580 and MacBook Pro Snow Leopard wireless printer with router

I have a macbook pro OSX operating system and a C5580 HP Photosmart printer.  I have spent hours with netgear as I did purchase a new router getting my macbook pro to print wirelessly.  Whatever the fix it is temporary and my private tech has to take control of my computer to get to work again.
    1. am I printing with bluetooth? through router?
    2. what is happening whenever it gets out of sync and how can I fix myself?
    3. computer says "idle" but shows device connected.  I can print test page wirelessly, but not current document. Documents print when I connect with usb cable.
I felt I should contact HP since I think it is their problem though netgear has been very helpful.  I understand that I do need USB to scan, but shouldn't have to have it to print. We have downloaded all of the most current drivers and software.

Tell me about your network - router brand/model, encryption type (WEP, WPA, etc) and ISP type (DSL, Cable, etc).
If you loaded the HP software from the printer CD and unless your CD says it specifically supports 10.6 Snow Leopard, you must uninstall the software using the 'scrubber' option:
Go to Applications/Hewlett Packard/ click on HP Uninstaller
    Click on Continue
Highlight your device on the left pane
Hold the Ctrl, Opt and Cmd keys and click on Uninstall
There will be a pop up that asks if you are sure you want to uninstall ALL hp software. (At this point, if you continue, any HP printers you have installed will need to be reinstalled)
Click Continue and let it finish
    Restart your Mac
    Now, run a Software Update.
Next, remove and re-install the printer in System Preferences, Print & Fax.
You do not need the software now since Snow Leopard has both print & scan drivers built-in. Scan from Preview or Image Capture apps. Scanning from the front panel of the printer does not yet work.

    1. No, routers don't do bluetooth.  If they are wireless routers they use wi-fi (802.11).

  • Extremely slow wireless printing with HP Photosmart Premium C309g-m

I'm seeing extremely slow print speeds when printing wirelessly from a Mac or a Windows XP system to a new HP Photosmart Premium C309g-m printer. The printer begins printing immediately when I request a print, but it only prints one line. It will then take about 15 minutes to print the rest of the page, printing each line after a very long pause. Demo page printing doesn't exhibit this problem, only documents from programs like Word 2008, Safari and Firefox (tried firefox on PC and Mac) are affected.
If I connect to the printer through a USB connection it prints fine, so this problem appears to be with wireless printing only.
    Printer: HP Photosmart Premium C309g-m
Computer: Mac mini (Late 2009 model) (also tried a Windows XP laptop as a comparison, using latest drivers from HP's website)
OS: Mac OS X 10.6.2 with all available updates installed
Computer connection method: Wired Ethernet connection to wireless router
Printer drivers: version 2.2.1 (Apple supplied, HP drivers never installed as system shipped with 10.6)
Wireless router: Apple TimeCapsule (Early 2009) 1TB, running in a/n and b/g modes on 2.4 and 5GHz. TimeCapsule is in bridging mode as the DSL modem handles DHCP service
Encryption: WPA2 Personal, no MAC filtering or hiding of the SSID.
IP addressing scheme: All addresses are handed out by DHCP server with no reservations of any kind
The TimeCapsule is sitting three inches from the printer and the printer indicates full signal. Connection of the printer to the wireless network and setup of the printer on the Mac went without a hitch. Only when printing a test document did we discover the problem. The wireless network is behaving as expected when accessing the Internet from both Mac and Windows devices (tested with a Dell laptop running XP and a MacBook running OS X 10.6.2), so I don't see any overall problems with the wireless network.
    Attempted remedies:
    1. Rebooting and powering off, waiting, powering on computer
    2. Resetting the print subsystem, turning the printer off and on again and reinstalling the printer
    3. Unplugging power from the printer and letting it sit for several minutes before trying to print wirelessly.
    None of these worked.

I don't think there is anything wrong with the DSL modem HW.  There might be an issue with how print data is being routed though.
Please try the second experiment where you blank-out the default gateway and DNS entries from the printer's internal web configuration page.  Open the printer's internal web page by browsing to its IP address.  Select Networking and then Wireless (802.11).  Under the IPv4 Configuration tab, select Manual IP:
For Manual IP Address, use the existing printer IP address.
For Manual Subnet Mask, use 255.255.255.0
For Manual Default Gateway, leave blank.  This is important.
    Select Manual DNS Server:
Leave both the Manual Preferred DNS Server and Manual Alternate DNS Server fields empty.  This is important.
    Press Apply.
Turn off the DSL modem, the printer and all computers connected to your network.  Wait 60 seconds then turn on the DSL modem and then turn on the printer.  Then turn on the computers.  See if this corrects the printing speed.

  • Hp3070a not wireless printing with windows 8

Help! Going mad! My printer use to print wirelessly and then stopped. I reset once by looking on google but now don;t know what to do. I have Surface tablet with windows 8 (i think!). Prints with USB fine. Thank you so much. Ruth

    Hi ruthk726,
I'd like to help you get the printer working wirelessly again with your tablet.
Use the solutions in 'Printer is offline' Message Displays on the Computer and the Printer Will Not Print. This document does address these other symptoms as well:
    Printer won't print
Print jobs are stuck in the print queue
    No response from the printer
Please Note: Solution one will advise you to download and install the HP Print and Scan Doctor; however, the HP Print and Scan Doctor does not support Windows RT for ARM-processor based tablets or computers. Please proceed to the next solution. (Solution two: Restart the computer and check the print queue)
