Iphone with Itunes and keeping contacts seperate
My wife and I share the same computer but have seperate itune accounts, what is the best way to each back up our phones to the computer without mergeing or switching information and contacts?

And this didn't happen by syncing only. This means you transferred the backup for another iPhone or you restored the iPhone with iTunes. It is not possible for everything to be lost by syncing alone. All iTunes content on your iPhone can be lost but not any photos in the Camera Roll and the same for contacts unless you synced contacts with an empty address book application on your computer. -

All the topics are relevant but this one tends to be the most common culprit:
Authorize using the correct account name
The items you are trying to play might have been purchased using a different iTunes Store account. To determine which account was used to purchase an item, follow these steps:
Select a purchased song in your library and choose File > Get Info.
Click the Summary tab. Note the Account Name that appears in the list. This is the account name (Apple ID) you will need to use when authorizing your computer to play this purchase.
Note: The account name that appears is the one you used when purchasing the item and does not change if the account name (Apple ID) changes.
If you've authorized the Apple ID that is shown in the Summary tab, you can check the purchase history for that Apple ID from Store > View My Account. If your purchase history does not reflect the purchase of the items in your iTunes library, consider any other Apple ID you may have created, and authorize the computer for your additional Apple ID.
If you forgot the password to one of your accounts, you can recover it using Apple's password-recovery website.

I just updated my iPhone with iTunes from my Mac and the entire contents of the iPhone are wiped. It wants me to reconfigure from scratch but then says there is no simcard inserted so must have wiped that too? I have no Wifi where I am. iTunes will not allow me to access the iPhone either - it can detect it but as it says there is no simcard it wont read it.
Can anyone help I am soooo annoyed!The switch from an available wi-fi network to AT&T's cellular network and back again has always been automatic and seamless with nothing special required - as the iPhone is designed to do.
If the standard troubleshooting steps do not resolve this, which in order are power your iPhone off and on, reset, restore with iTunes, the next step (assuming you are in the U.S.) is calling AppleCare at (800) 694-7466, or make an appointment at an Apple Store if there is one nearby. -

I am trying to sync my brand new ipad with my imac (itunes) and i keep getting a message to update itunes on my ipad. how do i update software on my ipad? my ipad device is not displaying in itunes on my imac to be able to sync. Can anyone advise?
That message refers to iTunes on the computer and not anything on the iPad. If you're using a Mac, it needs to be running Mac OS X 10.6.8 or newer, which requires an Intel Mac with at least 1GB of RAM.

Hello All!
I already have a 16GB 3G iPhone and we're going to be getting another 3G for my wife (whether it is 8GB or 16GB is still to be decided). On my phone, I have about 13GB used, with the primary source being music. We intend the same iTunes account and there are no other devices using authorizations on this account.
*First, does Apple's licensing of applications allow the second phone using the same iTunes account to download all of the previously purchased applications for free?* In other words, will she be able to download any applications I purchased for free since I have unlimimted free downloads on my phone?
Second, and most importantly, I am wondering how iTunes manages two different iPhones on one computer. This will especially be an issue if she gets an 8GB iPhone since everything that is on my phone will not fit on an 8GB model. She doesn't want or need all of my music, so we could very easily not transfer all of the music. But, I'm just wondering how they will co-exist if they are different sizes and her phone might keep running out of room. If the iTunes software doesn't handle this situation well, we may buy a 16GB model just to make our lives easier. *If someone could provide me with information on how the iTunes software handles multiple phones (especially if they are of different capacities) or links to other websites with information on this topic I would really appreciate it.*
We need to make our purchase in the next month, so I want to know what we are getting into if she decides to get an 8GB model with me having a 16GB one. I just don't want to have a management nightmare. I'd appreciate any help in advance. Thanks!
JimI currently have 2 iphones, 1 is a 2G 8GB, the other is a 3G 16GB. I use smart playlists on the 16GB and only sync those playlists. The 8G is set up to manually manage music per my sons request. It would be just as easy to have a playlist set up for him and have it sync only that playlist. So yes, you can absolutely have both on one computer. As far as applications, as long as you are syncing to the same computer/same account, it will allow you to place the app's on both machines. I don't know what the legality of that is, however.

The rest of my music is still on my iPad, so how do I get it from my iPad to the computer, and back on my phone? All my music is sitting there safely on my iPad, but whenever I try to sync it with my computer the only option I get is to wipe the iPad and replace it with the files on the computer---which is only a fraction of what I had originally. How do I fix this?? It even deleted my playlists, and I now only have some 200 songs left out of what used to be over 1000!

When you plugged it in, iTunes said 'Oh goody! You got a new phone! Would you like to make it just like your old phone?'...
You explicitly said 'Yes'.
You can't undo that.
No backup of the current state of the new phone was made. It was wiped and the last backup of your old phone was restored to it.
Anything you had on the new phone is gone. -

Sorry but I see that now other people are having your similar issue as you, when they updated it started asking them for a passcode. This is one thing I found that might help.....
Do a backup to iTunes (yes, you can do a backup to iTunes or iCloud even if your phone is locked), then put the phone into "recovery" mode (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808). Then restore the factory settings; basically a clean install of iOS7 (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414). Then finally, I restore from the backup you made (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766). The phone does not make me enter the passcode I had set (which was of course set when the backup was made), but it does prompt me to create a new one. I declined :-) I will try setting up a new passcode at some point, but I'm just glad to have my phone back for now. -

Trying to sync iPhone 4 with itunes and get an error message PLEASE help
I am currently using and iPhone 4. This morning I had synced my iPhone with itunes and it was working fine. I came home and wanted to add some music and such to it and all of a sudden i will plug it in to itunes and i,t looks like its going gets to step 2 of 6 (which is the back up process) and then an error message comes up saying itunes has stopped working, my only option to do is exit the window..
Any ideas why this would be the case? its really frustrating me. I am also not the most computer savvy.

If that doesn't help, if you are using a Windows based computer, could be your anti virus software or your firewall that's preventing the sync.

What's the full error message that you are getting (and is this on your computer or phone ?), and are you using a PC or a Mac - and is your computer's operating system and iTunes up-to-date ?
