Iphone won't activate

I have an iPhone 3gs and it was running on ios 4.1 so I upgraded to ios 6 and now it won't activate. I don't know what the problem is and I really need help because I need to use my phone.

Was your phone hacked/jailbroken?

  • IPhone won't activate after updating to iOS7... even after connecting to iTunes...

my iOS7 wouldn't budge after updating so I performed the silly mistake of doing a system restore. It updated but now my iPhone won't activate! Do you think it's the servers? I'm perfectly connected to my wifi and my phone is connected to iTunes!

Yeah... Thanks! It finally managed to pull through... ugh... was getting slightly worried because I needed it for something important at the moment... but thankfully it's okay now.

  • After upgrading to a new 3GS, my original iPhone won't activate...

After I upgraded to an iPhone 3GS, I restored the original iPhone with iTunes. Now, the iPhone says it's got an invalid SIM in it, and when I plug it into iTunes, it won't activate it. It's basically a brick now.
Was I wrong in thinking I could now use the old iPhone basically like an iPod touch?

I haven't seen any press release that supercedes that, but the one you reference refers to the ORIGINAL iPhone, not a 3G. There have been posts here and elsewhere indicating that the restore/upgrade function no longer works on the 3G once you update to 3GS.
I suppose the original poster can put a phone call in to AppleCare to see if they might be able to get some help from them. I didn't make this rule, I am just reporting what everyone else is seeing, with or without the SIM card in the 3G.

  • IPhone won't activate after restore - says wrong apple ID/password

    Hi everyone,
I recently attempted to upgrade to the latest iOS on my iPhone 4. However there was an error, so my phone had to be restored. I did this, and was then prompted to activate my iPhone.
However it is claiming that I am using the wrong apple ID/password when I am not. I am able to log into My Apple ID online and have done so, and have changed PWs and fiddled around with it but it won't let me sign in!
    Can anyone help?

  • My new iPhone won't activate. I tried to and it didn't work i'm not sure what to do.

I got a new iPhone 5c for an early Christmas present, and it didn't activate right and now nothing will work and i'm not sure what to do. It won't let me restore the new iPhone because i can't log in to icloud. Help!!!

Sorry, you're going to have to actually explain what the problem is. This is far too vague to have an accurate idea of what's wrong.
    What do you mean by:
It won't let me restore the new iPhone because i can't log in to icloud.
What exactly are you doing? What is the EXACT error message you get and where do you see it?

  • IPhone won't activate after "auto" reset

    Hi,
I went to bed at 10:30pm last night, set my iPhone alarm for 05:30am this morning, dimmed my brightness to its lowest setting (as I always do, so I don't get blinded when I check the time during the night) and then left my phone beside my bed.
This morning, when the alarm went off, I couldn't switch it off, because my iphone was in the middle of some "restore" after doing what can only be called an "automatic" reset.  I had to switch the phone off to stop the alarm.
Now, I can't get past the activation screen and keep getting the "Your iphone could not be activated because the server is temporarily unavailable" screen.  No matter HOW many times I try, or how long I wait between tries, it just won't complete this part.
I followed the advice in various forums, and tried connecting to iTunes.  However, iTunes says "The software on the iphone has expired and must be updated to a new version" - all of which I find extremely strange as:
    1)  My iPhone is (was - God only knows what it's on now) on the latest build of 5.1
    2)  iTunes is on version 10.6 (updated recently)
    3)  When I clear the iTunes message, it tries to sync the phone but, obviously as the phone hasn't yet activated after the auto-reset, can't.
    4)  The iTunes screen showing the iPhone information states that the software is the latest version and doesn't need changing.
I'm now stuck with an iPhone which doesn't work and I don't live near an Apple store either - only a Stormfront store
    Anybody got any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Tony

I have a similar situation. I woke up with a 'bricked' iPhone. I can't get into it as I had a beta version installed and the beta has expired. I used that beta version because the stable iOS 5.0 gave me a SIM error every so many hours (after which I needed to turn on and off my phone). Tried everything, and installing the beta solved that issue for me (really glad it did). I installed it as a non developer.
I now can't update the iOS through iTunes, I can't get in my phone, I simply can't use the device as I can not get passed the developer screen. I can't even backup because a session cannot be started from iTunes. All iTunes is saying is "The software on the iphone has expired and must be updated to a new version" and when I check for update, it gives back "This version of the iPhone software (5.1) is the current version".
So I'm stuck with a great device which doesn't work.

  • Iphone won't activate after iOS 6 upgrade

    Hi all,
Went to backup my daughters iPhone and iTunes said that a new iOS (6) was availible and I should update. I did so and follwed all the instructions. the update seemed to go well. The Phone then rebooted and started with the grey iPhone screen and it asked to be reactivated.  i again follwed procedure but I kept on getting "...iPhone could not be activated  because the activation server is temporarily unavailabe..." message. I have tried this countless times, including resetting my modem/router so I dont believ that is the apple servers.
What is the issue and how can I restore it?
    Would appreciate any help.
    Thanks

Did u guys get this fixed? I have a friend with exactly the same problem!
Upgrade a 3GS on 4.1 or 4.2 (don't remember) using the latest iTunes and it patched to iOS 6.
Once there it's stuck in activation. Since the person has no wifi but only 3G network, the only option is to activate using iTunes which doesn't work. Though that PC is perfectly connected to the internet.
Never jailbroken... now we're thinking that actually jailbreaking might be the only fix?!

  • IPhone won't activate due to Error 0xE000004

Hello, so I purchased an iPhone 4 off Ebay because it wouldn't activate
I have a little knowledge of stuff like this and I thought maybe it would need putting into recovery mode and restoring that way, however.. every time I go to restore through iTunes it comes with error 0xE000004
Little bit more information about the phone:
    - It doesn't appear to be blocked as I have checked it on various IMEI websites, it is open to O2-UK
    - It does not have an iCloud account linked to it (something the previous owner also said)
    - There is no option to activate the phone over Wifi for some reason,I thought maybe the Wifi was broken as when I opened the back cover there is a small metal clip, near the Wifi screw that was missing for the plate that covers all the connectors, so I bought an original one from Ebay and replaced it however there is still no Wifi option.
    - Even though the phone is not blocked, when I put an O2-UK Sim card in there, it says no service
    - There is no water damage
I have tried a Windows 7 and a Windows Vista laptop to try and restore and I still have not had any joy.
I have only managed to find a VERY small handful of people that have come across this problem over the internet
If you have any ideas, or know what might be the issue and how to resolve this I would very grateful.
    Thank you

  • IPhone won't activate after restore

Can't activate my iPhone 4S after restoring it to factory settings on iOS 6. It's been 12 hours now. I tried restoring it several times through iTunes and so far no luck. Feel very frustrated. What do I do?
This is the message that gets displayed when I try to activate the phone:
"Your iPhone could not be activated because the activation server is temporarily unavailable."

I had the same issue, and just took took it to the Apple Store.  They had the same problem and ended up replacing my phone.

  • IPhone won't activate in Canada and I have no way to call customer service.

I broke and old iPhone and used insurance to get a new one delivered to my new address in Canada though the rest of my family is in Indiana. The phone will not activate by plugging it in as the directions say. I have tried dialing *611 but that leads to a Canadian company that can't help me and gave me a number for Verizon. The problem is I cannot call that number because my phone is not activated so really I am unable to call anyone. Unfortunately there are no Verizon stores in Montreal or anywhere I can reach. What should I do in this situation?
    Thanks!

Cmj, that is great that your phone was replaced promptly! In order to activate the phone it needs to be in the U.S. for activation on our network. Once the phone has been activated in the states, then phone can be used as normal internationally.^SP

  • IPhone won't activate after restore. Activation server unavailable

I restored my iPhone 4 through iTunes and it keeps saying "unable to activate phone, activation server unavailable".

There are two common causes for this problem:
    1. Your antivirus or firewall is blocking access to gs.apple.com. Disable them and try again.
    2. You once, at some time in the past, used your computer to hack or jailbreak some iOS device (not necessarily the iPhone with the problem). If you did your network database on your computer is corrupted, and you will have to edit your hosts file and delete any lines that contain gs.apple.com.

  • IPhone won't activate after upgrade to 2.1 Software

I upgraded to the version 2.1 iPhone software on my original iPhone and after doing so my phone entered "emergency mode" and iTunes 8.0 gave me a message that said "info for activation could not be obtained from iPhone. Check SIM card.....". I rebooted the phone but it came up in this mode.
A post on the AppleNova forum suggested starting the phone in recovery mode, which solved the problem and restored the phone to functional. To enter recovery mode you start with the phone powered off and while holding down the home button, plug in your USB cable. This brings up iTunes noting the phone is in recovery mode. Then you click restore and the phone is restored to prior settings which makes it functional again. My data was backed up so it restored such that I didn't lose any music, photos or contacts.

I don't know how widespread this problem is, but its quite frustrating and adds another little bit of tarnish to Apple's otherwise gleaming reputation.

    THANK YOU SO MUCH!
You have no idea how frustrated I was last night. I couldn't figure out what the heck the problem was, but I'm having the same exact problem as you. I'm going to try this fix and see if it works.

  • My iPhone won't activate, after I deleted it from Find My iPhone.

    Hey people!
Please help: I lost my iPhone New Years, and quickly blocked & deleted it from Find My iPhone. It would probably have been enough just to block it - but I was desperate and drunk... Luckily I got it back, but now when I turn it on, it asks me to pick country, wifi, and then it says: "Your iPhone could not be activated because the activation server is temporarily unavailable."
I have been trying now for 3 days in a row. Turned it off, hold the home button down, while turning it on and connecting it to iTunes, but iTunes just tells me, that the iPhone is Sim Locked, so that didn't help either.
    What to do?
    Thanks....

  • Phone won't activate

Three TS people and a total of six hours with a phone pressed to my ear later and my iPhone won't activate. It says no service where I'm assuming there should be antenna bars. TS obviously has no clue, as two people said they would call me back yesterday and haven't. The last person I spoke with had me re-download iOS 5 from iTunes. The phone walked through the screens, like i was on the right track, but it just will not activate. It stays on the "this may take a while" screen and then says it won't connect. No way to dial *228 either.
Any clues before I call it quits with Verizon? If I needed a new phone they should have overnighted it to me so I had it today. This isn't like my Droid when it was brand new to everyone. Doesn't Verizon have any experienced people yet to deal with iPhones?

Yes I did, Susan. Numerous times, but with "no service" in the corner, the phone could not place the call.
I had a *spare*  couple hours this morning, so called Verizon's TS again.
This TS person said she was surprised the phone wasn't pronounced DOA yesterday after she reviewed all that was done to it. She offered to replace the phone and I would have a new one on Monday she said, as they don't ship on Saturday's and could not do an overnight thing, not even to one of their stores. That burned me after hearing the phone should have been pronounced DOA yesterday. By the time she switched me over to the person I had to speak with to get the replacement ordered though, Monday had changed to Friday... the end of next week! Apparently TS was wrong yet again and I should not have been told Monday. My head was ready to pop after being told this. It might not be Verizon's fault the phone arrived DOA, but it is their fault the three people I spoke with yesterday didn't issue me a new phone in a timely manner. And kept telling me they would call me back and didn't.
I am checking out At&t's plans right now. I was with them before I made the move to get a Droid and really had no beef with them. Life is too short to be dealing with Verizon.
