IPhone won't communicate via Remote, Snatch, Things and so on

I have a very odd problem that I'm desperate to get to the bottom of.
I have an iPhone (2.1), a WiFi network, a MacBook Air (MBA) and a Mac Pro (MP).
I have recently installed several programs that open a channnel of communication between the iPhone and other computers on the wireless network. For example: Apple Remote ([http://www.apple.com/itunes/remote>), Snatch ([http://hoofien.com/Home.html]) and Things ([http://www.culturedcode.com/things>).
In all these applications, I can get the iPhone to communicate with the MBA without any problems. The iPhone appears as a remote in iTunes on the MBA as you'd expect, and controls iTunes correctly. Snatch on the iPhone detects the MBA and allows me to control the cursor. Things on the MBA finds the iPhone immediately, and synchronises tasks fine.
However, on the MP, I have no success at all. The iPhone does appear as a remote in iTunes, but won't find the library ([http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7988177]). The MP doesn't appear as a server when I open Snatch on the iPhone. Things on the MP can't find the iPhone at all.
There's clearly something going wrong on the MP that's preventing a certain kind of connection, but what might it be? Do these programs run over Bounjour, or another protocol? What can I check?
Just to confirm, both machines are running Leopard, and both are connected to the same wireless network via the same router. The MP has an Ethernet connection and the MBA uses WiFi, but even if I connect the MBA via Ethernet I have exactly the same problem (ie, the MBA works, the MP doesn't). Both machines are configured in a very similar way and there's nothing "obvious" that I can think of that would be preventing connections; there's no firewall running or anything like that.
Short of a complete re-install of the OS, which I'd rather not have to do, is there anything I can try that might fix this?!
UPDATE: I have now got Things to work, it seems that this was an unrelated issue. However, the problem remains with both Apple Remote and Snatch. Any ideas?

Just a quick follow up to this, in case anyone is having the same problem and stumbles across this post.
I recently purchased a Mac Mini to act as a media server. I connected the Mini to my wireless network, started iTunes, and then launched Remote on my iPhone. I was then able to control iTunes without any problems.
However. I found the wireless connection a bit slow, especially when streaming HD video from my Mac Pro. So, I bought a couple of ZyXel Powerline plugs -- these broadcast your Ethernet connection over the mains ring at about 200mbps. When I disabled the Mini's wireless connection and plugged it into the Powerline Ethernet port, everything worked really well and video streaming no longer skipped... but guess what? Remote on my iPhone no longer worked.
When I renabled the wireless connection on the Mini, Remote worked as expected. So, in conclusion, Remote only works when my target machine is connected to my network wirelessly.
It's the same network, running over the same ADSL wireless router, so I have no idea why this would be the case.
Is my router knackered? Everything else seems to work well over the wired connection, I can still share drives and so on. Are some ports closed on the wired network but not the wireless one? I certainly haven't deliberately configured anything this way, and I'm not sure it's even possible.
Very odd indeed. Still, I hope that this information is of some use to anyone else who is having similar problems.

How do I get the internet connection back onto ipad even though it connects to Wifi successfully and I have checked on my iPhone which does connect via the same wifi and to the internet?

Your router may not have given your iPod a valid IP address. Go to Settings > Wifi > your network name and touch the ">" to the right to see the network details. If the IP address shown starts with 169 or is blank then your router didn't provide an IP address and you won't be able to access the Internet.
Sometimes the fix can be as simple as restarting your router (remove power for 30 seconds and restart). Next, reset network settings on your iPod (Settings > General > Reset > Reset network settings) and then attempt to connect. In other cases it might be necessary to update the router's firmware with the latest from the manufacturer's support web pages.
If you need more help please give more details on your network, i.e., your router make/model, the wifi security being used (WEP, WPA, WPA2), etc.

Is there anyway to connect iphone to other devices via bluetooth.like nokia and other phones

    No
Bluetooth is supported for stereo headsets/speakers, handsfree telephone devices/headsets, some keyboards, some peer-to-peer apps from the app store, and tethering where provided by the carrier.
Other than this, it will not connect to any computer/phone/device.

  • After upgrading to ios7.1 iphone won't play via USB in car.  Why?

I had been able to play my iphone through my 2013 Honda until I did the 7.1 upgrade.  Now the car does not recognize the iPhone.  How do I fix this?

Hi I have a 2012 Volvo V50 with premium audio. USB audio via 4S worked fine until the IOS 7 upgrade. Now i keep getting the "this accessory is not supported message"
I have read through this forum and the only thing apple suggests is "update your car oudio system"
This is total BS!  Ever heard of backward compatibility? Get this fixed or Android is next for me! Apples resoponse so far shows absolute arrogance.
I am not the only one and a simple search shows thousands of people having the same issues. Asked my car dealer already and they have loads of people with the same issues. Only devices with issues are Iphones and Ipods since the IOS 7 upgrade. Reset as suggested does not work.

. How do I fix this? It's just mine. My friends and her moms Iphones appear in both spots so it's not the cord. Help! I've tried uninstalling and redownloading Itunes. That didn't work. I've reset my iphone numerous times. Turned it off and back on. Restarted my computer. Deleted everything off of it and restored it from backup. It works on my friends computer perfectly fine but it won't work on mine. I've tried everythign that the Apple troubleshooter said to do and none of it worked. I need to get it figured out soon because I only have tonight.

  • My new iPhone won't activate. I tried to and it didn't work i'm not sure what to do.

I got a new iPhone 5c for an early Christmas present, and it didn't activate right and now nothing will work and i'm not sure what to do. It won't let me restore the new iPhone because i can't log in to icloud. Help!!!

Sorry, you're going to have to actually explain what the problem is. This is far too vague to have an accurate idea of what's wrong.
    What do you mean by:
It won't let me restore the new iPhone because i can't log in to icloud.
What exactly are you doing? What is the EXACT error message you get and where do you see it?

  • IPhone won't turn on after replacing LCD and Screen

My dad replaced the glass digitizer and LCD panel the screen won't turn on. what could go wrong that would cause this?
I plugged in into the wall charger and it made the charging sound but still the screen didn't turn on. The sound works and vibrator also. I held the home and power button and nothing happened. I took a snapshot and I heard the picture sound. I also hooked it up to my computer and iTunes synced it but still the screen did not turn on. What could I do to make my screen show and be able to use my phone again? Please Help!! Thanks in advance !

As deggie poined out, it could be any number of things. If your dad can't fix it, you may need to find a competent repair shop or buy a new phone. Apple will not service that one.

  • My iphone won't download apps, just show waiting and won't download podcasts. Help!

My phone won't download any apps, just say waiting instead of loading or downloading.
Also won't download any podcasts or songs

Try Settings => Store, sign out and sign back in
Also try Settings => WiFi, toggle off/on
Try Settings => General => Reset => Reset Network Settings
(this will erase any WiFi password you had entered in previously)
Try downloading to computer's iTunes and sync to the device after that.

  • BB10 Won't Sync via USB with iCal and Contact in Mac OS 10.8

I was able to transfer all of my data from my Torch to my new Z10 using Blackberry Link, but not it will not let me sync my contacts and iCal via USB cable.  They "sync to device" tab is greyed out on the menu bar.
In addtion, in spite of the fact that I've done several back-ups of my phone in Blackberry Link, when I plug my phone into my Mac, it indicates that it has never been backed up.
    Suggestions?

I have the same issue and from what I've been able to find online, it appears that Blackberry Link does not allow you to sync contacts, calendar and reminders.  Check out this link.  https://www.blackberry.com/lms/item/0aa163b0-72e4-7055-f632-baf90ad15bca
If this is actually the case this is a major blunder.  Everything else about the phone I absolutely LOVE!

  • My Iphone won't back up to Icloud anymore and My photos won't sync

For some reason I can't get my phone to back up to icloud or my photos to show up on my Mac photo stream. My phone is connected to wifi and plugged in to the power. What should i do?

If your back up continually fails, you might try turning off back up on your mobile device (settings > iCloud > storage & backup) and then deleting the backup file from iCloud by swiping the backup file on the mobile device (settings > iCloud > storage & backup > manage…) and then turning back up on again.
Being able to back up to the cloud can be very useful, especially if you don't have access to a computer or have infrequent access to one, however unless you specifically need to use iCloud for back up, you will find backing up to iTunes significantly more convenient and possibly more reliable.

  • Help iphone won't connect to iTunes [mac]

hello my iphone won't pop up on iTunes [mac] and windows but it still can charge please won't show up even when I try

You are probably running OS 10.4 or 10.5 on a PPC Mac.  No version of  iTunes higher than 10.6.3 is available for these older Macs.  I have the same problem, and while I can still use the PPC to sync my iPod, it can't be used to sync an iPhone 4 or higher.  The only solution, as I discovered after upgrading to the iPhone 4, is to buy a newer Mac.  I was able to get a 2006 MacBook running Lion for under $300, and that has been a lifesaver.

  • IPhone won't reload.

iPhone won't reload. Lost battery power and the phone would not turn on after charging. Tried the restore and get to "Restoring phone" but the status bar on the phone never fills in. Restarted my Mac, did not have a problem connecting with Apple.

  • IPhone and iPad can no longer connect to iTunes Libary via Remote

Up until a couple of hours ago, I had no problems controlling iTunes on my MacBook Pro via my iPhone or iPad. Now, on both devices, I get an error saying it can't connect to my Library.
All devices are connected to the same network. I get the error whether my firewall is on or off. I have tried re-adding the Library. When I do so the relevant device shows up in iTunes and the pairing process SEEMS to work. It tells me that my iPhone can now control my library, but it still can't connect.
    I've tried rebooting the router.
All devices show the same ip address for the router and all are on the same subnet.
I've just upgraded iTunes to 10.2.1 and everything on the iPhone and iPad has the latest upgrades.
Also when I go to the iPod app on my iPhone and go to More -> Shared -> and then my library, I get an error saying "Cannot Connect to Media Libary"
I've seen this advice, "You must also have the iTunes preference "Look for iPod touch, iPhone and iPad Remotes" enabled. " I cannot find this preference anywhere. It's not something I've ever looked for before so possibly the name of it has changed in a recent iTunes release. Can anyone tell me if I'm looking for the right thing and where I might find it?
    Any other ideas?
Anyone else with a similar problem that has cropped up recently?

Hi Everyone, I found a solution to this problem with no "Look for iPod..." option.
Check "Allow iTunes Audio Control from Speakers"
    Then, RESTART iTunes.
Heres a picture of what to check off:

    Should Work.
