Iphone won't open

My iphone does not open. It has the Apple symbol in the centre of the screen.  I tried the reboot but it does not help. It is an Apple

Hey Marion Bonn,
Thanks for the question. The following resource provides information about the symptom you are experiencing:
iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3281
Resolution
1. If a single application is not responding or stops responding when it opens, you canforce it to close.
2. If the device is unresponsive or if certain controls aren't working as expected, restart your device.
3. If the device remains unresponsive or does not turn on (or power on), reset your device.
4. If there is no video or if the screen remains black, verify that the device has enough charge to turn on:
          1. If you are using an iPad, ensure that it's connected to the USB Power Adapter supplied with the device.
          2. Let it charge for at least twenty minutes, then see if it starts normally.
          3. If there is no image on the screen, press the Sleep/Wake button to attempt to wake the device.
          4. If the screen displays a red battery icon, continue charging the device until the battery is fully charged. Learn more about charging iPhone and iPod touch, or iPad.
5. If the above steps do not resolve the issue, or the if the screen remains black or shows a persistent Apple logo, try restoring with iTunes:
          1. Connect the device to your computer and open iTunes.
          2. If the device appears in iTunes, select and click Restore on the Summary pane. Learn more about restoring iOS software.
          3. If the device doesn't appear in iTunes, try to force the device into recovery mode, and then restore it.
6. If the above steps do not resolve the issue, contact Apple.
Thanks,
Matt M.

My iphone won"t open. There is a message on the screen that states that iphone is not backed up. when I click the ok button nothing happens. It was workin until today.

By "open", I think you mean you cannot unlock your iPhone.
If that's true, here's the remedy:

  • IPhone won't open old (pre 97) .xls files

my iPhone works fine opening .xls files as long as they are not pre 1997 format. (get the password protected or corrupt file error). Any way I can fix this?

Convert your old .xls files to ones that are supported by the phone.?!.
Over ten years old, there has to be a cut off point.

  • I just synced my iphone 3gs after downloading the Safari upgrade, now my iphone won;'t open any apps except the ones loaded on my phone when I got it.

I just synced my iphone 3gs after downloading the safari update.  Now I can't open any apps except the ones that came with the phone.  I have tried rebooting, turning it off and on.
When I select the icon, it goes to the page then returns to my screensaver.
It was working well before the update and sync with my Acer netbook.  Have never had any problems with itunes store or downloads.

this happened to me with my iPhone 4. I researched the problem and found this :
"The reason this happens is because every time a downloaded app is opened it checks for your itunes password for validation that you are authorized to open that app (as it may contain personal info). From time to time the iphone 'forgets' your itunes password. You can fix the missing password by syncing the iphone with itunes or downloading an app from the app store and entering your password that way.”
And to fix it, all I did was download a new app, or delete a current one, I used Facebook, and re-download it.
    Hope this helps

  • HELP please: iphone won't open in itunes running OS X 10.5. so cannot get iTunes 11.1.3

My iPhone 4s with 7.0.2 will no longer open in iTunes! HELP!
It says that I need to upadate my iTunes to 11.1.3 but because I am running a Mac OS X 10.5.8 I cannot update my itunes.
I need to be able to get into iTunes and I am not willing to get a new computer to do this! HELP!

Buy Snow Leopard from the Apple store. It's your only choice.
Or you can install Windows and download iTunes…

  • After the upgrade to ios7 my 4s iphone won't open the itunes store or allow me to search the store. Not even using a different app that links to the stores download button.

After the upgrade to ios 7 my iphone 4s will not open the itunes store at all. It will allow me to open a specific song from another app for download from apps such as shazam, but I cannot search the store. ios 7 is the worst thing since windows vista.

And it's not the safari settings either, i've already tried that and resetting my phone a few times.

  • Safari on iPhone won't open a Yahoo or Google Search result....

If I use Google iphone app or Yahoo iPhone app and touch on a result, normally it would launch Safari and bring the page up......now Safari opens and just freezes at "Connecting"....close the page and things are fine but the page found via Google or Yahoo never does load unless the address is loaded directly into Safari or I use the search field in the Safari top nav bar???

it turns out that safari's handling of png is broken, the problem reproduced on both iphone and mac safaris.
in changing the format to gif, it all works okay.
does apple allow mortals to file bugs against safari?

  • Iphone won't open docx files created and sent via Entourage

    Can't open docx on iphone.
Our Macs in our office were recently updated to Mac OS 2008. We use Entourage.
Now, our word documents are automatically saved as docx.
Many of us have iphones and frequently use them to open and view documents. We can't open the docx files.
I found a 2009 discussion online regarding this. It was said the problem only exists when docx is created in Entourage. This is not practical to have to save again as doc and send (which supposedly will cause formatting problems.)
Supposedly if you send through normal mail instead of entourage, the problem does not occur. Not a practical option for our company.
Is there an easy, practical workaround for this? Why is this an Entourage only problem? Are they or apple working on fixing this?

I cannot specifically address the use of Office on a Mac, but the file extension for newer Office files being docx means they are Office XML files. The extension is the same for Office 2007, the Microsoft version for the PC. The x is appended to the file extension for the other Office products as well (for the PC). I have no trouble opening a Word file with the docx extension when created in Word 2007 on my PC.
There is a setting in Word that allows you to change the default save if you want to change it back to doc. That would put the file in compatability mode. It can be opened by newer and older versions of Word, however a docx file cannot be opened by an older version. If you go to the settings section, then save section, you can change the default file setting.
I cannot address Entourage, since I'm not using a Mac, but it could have to do with how it handles an XML file
    Hope this helps you.

  • My iPhone won't open photo library, email, email settings, app store, and most of my apps--basically anything relating to the memory of the phone. Any ideas about what to do?

Ever since I few days ago, whenever I try to access these applications, it takes abot 10-15 seconds to load and then shuts down and shoots me back the home screen. I'm pretty savvy with my phone, and usually can figure these things, but honestly have no clue what to do.

Clear background memory then Reset. Press Home button twice quickly. In now row of icons at bottom of screen, tap and hold on an icon until you get the Red Minus Sign. Then tap all the Red Minus Signs to delete background memory. When done with all, then Reset, hold both Home and Power buttons until the iPhone restarts itself, ignore the "slide to power off" let the iPhone restart itself. Usually takes about 10 seconds of holding both buttons.

  • Iphone won't open up Hotmail

I can't get my email, because my ipone will not open up my Hotmail account. Anyone no the trick.

If you are having problems accessing Hotmail via the web (using Safari), then my guess is that you NEVER turn off your phone. You just charge it when it get's low and leave it switched on.
Turn it off, re-start it and go to hotmail again. The problem will be gone.
This is caused by the way Hotmail deals with expired session cookies after you have logged out for more that 24 hours.
Trust me. It works every time.

  • IPhone won't open after trying to download software update

I was trying to download the latest OS update for my iphone 4S.  Now I can't access my phone because the screen just shows the iTunes symbol and a pictogram of my charging cord. Apple wants $19 from me for what I consider to be their problem, not mine.  Any ideas?

    What backup?
    Oops ...
Tech savvy or not, and regardless of how much you have in your head, you need to understand the concept of backups.  Not understanding backups is much like not understanding insurance, then getting very sick and wondering why you have to spend thousands of dollars for medical bills that most have insurance to help with.
All electronic devices fail at some point.  When they do, you should expect to lose everything you had stored.  The only way you should expect to recover any of it is from a backup.  If you don't have a backup of, say, your computer's hard drive, once it crashes (and it will), you can expect to lose all your photos, financial data, contacts, and whatever precious personal data you have stored.  Do you really want to take that risk?
So either you backed up your iPhone by syncing with iTunes or iCloud in the past and can recover what you backed up then, or you did not back up and will lose everything.

  • My iphone 4s fell down and now it won't open

Hello! So, my iPhone 4s fell down and now it won't open. I've tried to turn it on by holding simultaneously the home and lock button but nothing happens. I've plugged it in to its charger but all it does is vibrating constantly. Any suggestions?

    Could be hardware damage.
Take your iPhone in for service.

Ever since I upgraded my iPhone 4 to Version 5, all the new apps that I try to download keeps saying "waiting" on my phone... It won't open or download! Only the old apps that I already had before I upgraded my phone works. Please help!!!

    Try resetting the iPhone.
Hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home button down at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    It won't open or download!
If that doesn't help tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
