IPhone won't sync after upgrading to Leopard

My iPhone won't sync, or even show up in iTunes, after upgrading to Leopard. I've tried restarting my Macbook Pro, trying different USB slots, closing and reopening iTunes, everything. Has anyone else had this problem??
I've tried everything apple suggests:
1. The iPhone battery might need to be recharged. For information about charging iPhone, see "Charging the Battery" in the iPhone User's Guide.
2. If that doesn't work, disconnect other USB devices from your computer and connect iPhone to a different USB 2.0 port on your computer (not on your keyboard).
3. If that doesn't work, turn iPhone off and turn it on again. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button on top of iPhone for a few seconds until a red slider appears, and then slide the slider. Then press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
Note: If you enter the PIN incorrectly three times, you may need to contact your carrier for a Personal Unlocking Key (PUK) to enable your SIM card again.
4. If that doesn't work, restart your computer and reconnect iPhone to your computer.
5. If that doesn't work, download and install (or reinstall) the latest version of iTunes from www.apple.com/itunes.

You might need to remove and reinstall the Apple Mobile Device Service. Follow the link below for info on how to do this.

  • IPhone won't sync after installing Leopard

    Hi,
This weekend I updated my Mac Mini's system to 10.5.5 from 10.4.11 and I discovered that my iPhone won't sync now. I do get the little bleep sound when I plug it in and it will charge, but it won't sync. I have tried rebooting both the Mac Mini and the iPhone, but to no avail. Any thoughts or suggestions?
    Thanks much,
    David

    1) Try re-installing iTunes
    2) Try removing and reinstalling AMDS: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1747

  • Help Iphone won't sync after iTunes update

So I just updated iTunes to the newest version in preparation for the 3.0 software, My OS is 10.5.7 and Itunes is the latest version and now my iphone won't sync, it will back up but when it says phone syncing it just stops and the spinning ball comes up and then will not go away, tried restarting, anyone have any ideas?

Restart computer. Power off/on iPhone. Re-connect. If that doesn't work....I had a similar problem. I just downloaded iTunes 8.2 direct from apple website and re-installed....solved my problems.

  • IPhone won't sync after iTunes Upgrade

I was prompted to upgrade to iTunes v8.1, which I did over the weekend. When trying to install it I get this error message:
“The software you are installing for this hardware:
    DVD/CD-ROM drives
Has not passed Windows Logo testing to verify its compatibility with Windows XP … “
The install will then carry-on. When go into iTunes I get this error message:
“The registry settings used by the iTunes drivers for reporting and burning CD and DVDs are missing. This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software. Please reinstall iTunes.”
(I had installed other CD burning software, but had deleted it before trying the upgrade). It will let me into iTunes, but when I plug my iphone in, it will charge it, but won’t sync. When I plug the phone in, my laptop does open a box asking me which camera software I want to use.
I’ve tried re-installing iTunes several times (including deleting ‘Apple Mobile Device’), but it hasn't made a difference. My laptop is Windows XP

Wasted hours on this. Solved it in the end & thought the solution might be useful for others. There were 2 problems:
    1. The Gear software drivers were missing / incorrect. Had to re-install them. That didn't work straight away so I then had to edit a registry setting.
    2. The iPhone still was only appearing as an imaging device, not under USB Controllers in Device Manager. I eventually found out that I had to reinstall the drivers. Couldn't find them at first. Finally found them in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers
This all happened when I upgraded to iTunes v8.1.

  • FCE file won't open after upgrading to Leopard

After upgrading a Dual 1.8 GHz PowerPC G5 from OS 10.4.x Tiger to OS 10.5.8 Leopard, a Final Cut Express file on an external HD will no longer open. The error message is “File Error: Access Denied.”
Other files on the external drive using other applications launch with no problem.
The FCE file opens OK on another Mac running OS 10.6.
    Any suggestions?

Different OSes handle it differently, besides the normally hidden UIDs.
I wonder if ACLs got enabled on those other drives?

  • InDesign CS3 won't open after upgrading to Leopard.

I'm having an issue starting up Indesign CS3 since upgrading to Leopard. It seems like everything else has been working great, including the rest of CS3, so I'm kinda baffled as to why this doesn't.
When I open it, after loading for a few seconds, I get this error:
    http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/255/picture1lg9.png
    Any ideas?

WOOOO HOOOO! IT IS JUST A FONT CONFLICT!!!!! I think....
After days of trying to figure out why, after installing Leopard, InDesign CS3 crashes every time I tried to open "certain" files... I finally figured it out - at least on my system. I emphasize "certain" files, because InDesign would open certain InDesign files flawlessly... and crash when trying to other InDesign files. I narrowed it down to a handful of files and the only thing that these files had in common was one particular font. Well as it turns out, upon installation, Leopard put a bunch of new fonts into my system folder. I am also using Suitcase Fusion to manage my fonts. When starting the "culprit" files, Suitcase Fusion would try to "auto-activate" a font that was already activated at start-up in the system folder. After removing the "duplicate" font from my system folder - and restarting my computer - everything was back to normal seems to work fine now. I am not much of a computer technician.... but this worked for me. Let me know if this helps you too.

  • IPhone won't sync after Windows 7 operating system upgrade

I have upgraded my operating system of Windows 7. I reinstalled Itunes and now I can't get it sync with my IPhone 3G. I can manually drag files to my IPhone but when I sync it appears to sync but now music or video files are copied over to it. However applications and photos do copy.
Further, I have an Ipod Nano that does sync just fine. Any ideas on what is wrong? Anyone?
    Thanks.

If you're running Win 7 x64 then you most likely need to update the bios...the biggest issue is with Gigabyte Mother boards running intel chipsets...
Updating bios resolves 99% of those machines...others depending on their configuration don't resolve with the bios update and the only known work around right now is to run is Vista or XP compatibility mode when opening iTunes

  • ITunes won't sync (after "upgrading" to Lion because my four year old macBook can't use Mtn. Lion) With a little ranting sprinkled in.

I hope someone out there has the expertise to tell me what I am doing wrong. I expect a learning curve from a new Mac operating system, but I don't expect weeks of problem solving and glitches. Lion...well, they won't let me use that word.
Since I "upgraded" to Lion, when I hit "sync" in iTunes on the computer, I get one of three things:  1. Nothing happens, or:  2. A message appears that there is not sufficient room on the Nano for the changes, which is not true, or:  3. It syncs down to next to nothing on the Nano and I have to hit revert.
Sometimes I'm confronted with a screen that wants me to check or uncheck each and every album (but not songs) that I want synced. I have already kept up to date a more specific and complete list of the same sort elsewhere in iTunes: the "Music" list in my itunes "Library." Today I unchecked some songs and checked some others expecting to easily have the corresponding changes made on my iPod, as I have for years.  This is the list that I have refined over the years based on new music acquired, my changing tastes, and room left on the iPod.  Am I really expected to duplicate this process on another list only to end up with no options for individual songs I do, or do not, want synced? What is the purpose of this exercise?
I finally got it to upgrade to iTunes 10.6.3.  I was repeatedly getting a message in iTunes that there was an upgrade available. I would hit upgrade within that mesage in iTunes.  It would go through the process of checking for new software and then tell me my software was up to date. (I was running iTunes 10.6 (40).) Software update also told me my software was up to date. I had to go to the Apple site to find and download and install iTunes 10.6.3. The change made no difference to the above problem. I'm not used to screw-ups like this from Apple.
I can't think of a single change in Lion that I like. Not one. I hate the new calendar. I hate the new Safari, and I hate the new Mail. I hate the combination of Google search and the address bar.  I hate the way hiting a hot link in Mail opens a new tab in Safari instead of a new window. And the number of hassles and fixes and problems to be solved in the move from Snow Leopard to Lion has been like nothing I have experienced before on a Mac.
An iMac and a laptop are not iOS devices. And iPads and iPhones are not laptops or desktops. To try to merge the operating systems is a major error in my opinion. Thanks for putting up with my rant. I never expected to be so frustrated by a Mac "upgrade."  And I've been using Macs a log time. Any advise would be apreaciated.
    "Shinwell Johnson"

In lieu of relaxing on Sunday, I've been working on this.
I tried launching Thunderbird (TB) in TB's "Safe Mode".  This launches TB like it's being used for the first time - and it didn't crash, which got me hopeful.
So I deleted the TB profile folder and the TB preference file from the ~/Library folder.  Then I manually copied them over from my old Mac to my new Mac - figuring that maybe something got damaged by Migration Assistant.  After I installed all of the TB files and folders into the right places in my ~/Library folder, I rebooted the Mac (just to be safe) and tried to launch TB - and it crashed upon launching, with essentially the same crash log as shown above.
So it looks like there is something in my TB Profile that Lion doesn't like (but that Snow Leopard was fine with).
Any suggestions for how to find and fix/remove the offending item?  Is there something I could search for in the crash log that would point me to the offending item?

  • Photoshop CS3 won't run after upgrade to leopard

after installed leopard 10.5 i can't run PS CS3.. it said "could not initialized photoshop bcause the file is locked. Use the "get info" command to unlocked the file".
And then i use the get info command but i found that the photoshop CS3 was not locked...
Anyone have the same problems?? please help me.....................

yo I am having the same problems, any new suggestions on how to get photoshop to work. I have tried everything.
Capt. Lou, welcome to discussions. However, you need to be a little more clear.
When you say everything, what everythings have you tried?
    What I have done:
    Reinstalled CS3
    Repair Permissions
Boot into Disk Warrior and Repair Disk
Boot into Leopard disk and run Disk Repair
    What I have not done:
Archive and reinstall operating system: Leopard
    Remove 3rd Party Ram
Issues I am having besides CS3 not opening:
Missing PDF tab on Print Dialog
Computer won't go into sleep mode
    Mail won't remember junk email
I don't have any of these problems on my MBP. Go figure.

  • Won't sync after upgrade to 9.0

My experience to-date with 9.0 has been horrible. I had to do a complete uninstall and reinstall 3 times to get the software to work. It forced me to do a restore on my iPod as it wouldn't recognize it, and I still can't get it to sync.
I went through a series of errors saying that it can't copy for unknown reasons. After searching the forums I found a workaround that cost me several songs to get it resolved. Now it gets really absurd.
When I connect, it sees my iPod and starts to sync. After completing the sync, I unplug and nothing has actually copied over. When I plug it in again, I see huge amounts of "Other" taking up space on my iPod. When it resyncs, I get the same issue with nothing being playable but when I plug in a third time, the size of "Other" has doubled.
It looks like it is copying everything to "Other" and not recognizing anything as playable.
Oh how I wish I had never upgraded...
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I had similar problems. Disable your antivirus (I completely uninstalled Norton AntiVirus and installed Nod 32 (www.eset.com) after I got iTunes working.

  • LaunchDaemons won't start after upgrade to Leopard

I just upgraded from Tiger to Leopard on my iMac....
I have a couple of launch daemons whose .plist files are found in /Library/LaunchDaemons...they trigger the execution of shell scripts under my home folder. The daemons worked under 10.4 but don't work under 10.5. Originally, the .plist files were owned by "scooter" but after reading a couple things I changed ownership to "root" but that didn't help.
Here is there message that shows up in the system.log:
4/19/09 3:06:46 PM com.apple.launchd[1] (com.scooter.resourceMonitor[54]) Stray process with PGID equal to this dead job: PID 55 PPID 1 bash
I can run the shell scripts (that the daemons try to run) manually.
Anything special I need to do now that I'm running Leopard?

    scooter4j wrote:
uh...ok. didn't think anyone would need the details since the daemons ran under 10.4... in any case, here is one of them:

    echo $! > $LOGS_DIR/resourceMonitor.pid
Note that a new resourceMonitor.pid file is created at startup, meaning the shell script is being run, but then something happens and launchd apparently thinks the thread is dead and garbage collects it or something.
try adding the following line to your launch daemon
    <key>AbandonProcessGroup</key>
    <true/>
so that it looks like this

  • IPhone won't activate after upgrade to 2.1 Software

I upgraded to the version 2.1 iPhone software on my original iPhone and after doing so my phone entered "emergency mode" and iTunes 8.0 gave me a message that said "info for activation could not be obtained from iPhone. Check SIM card.....". I rebooted the phone but it came up in this mode.
A post on the AppleNova forum suggested starting the phone in recovery mode, which solved the problem and restored the phone to functional. To enter recovery mode you start with the phone powered off and while holding down the home button, plug in your USB cable. This brings up iTunes noting the phone is in recovery mode. Then you click restore and the phone is restored to prior settings which makes it functional again. My data was backed up so it restored such that I didn't lose any music, photos or contacts.
    The AppleNova thread is at:
    http://forums.applenova.com/showthread.php?p=586157#post586157
I don't know how widespread this problem is, but its quite frustrating and adds another little bit of tarnish to Apple's otherwise gleaming reputation.

    THANK YOU SO MUCH!
You have no idea how frustrated I was last night. I couldn't figure out what the heck the problem was, but I'm having the same exact problem as you. I'm going to try this fix and see if it works.

  • IPhone won't sync after using CopyTrans??

Hi everyone i recently used CopyTrans @ work to get some music out of my iPhone and also to put some in there so i could listen to it on the way home. BUT after I got home and tried to sync my iPhone iTunes would crash! : (((
I then got to work and deleted the songs I added to my iPhone using CopyTrans (manually restoring iphone to it's last sync'd state...) but this problem still persists! What can I do? Is this really a CopyTrans' issue? I tried to uncheck Music before syncing but iTunes still crashes...is there any other way besides restoring my iPhone? I don't want to lose the records on my game apps : (

how do u delete the itunesdb?...or should i say where is it in iPhone?
but if you have to restore already...why do you still need to delete the itunesdb? I could just restore it simply right (without backing up first...cuz i tried to backup too when it asked me before restoring and still crashed iTunes).
but yeah..so there's no other way to fix it other than restore right? shxt so i lose everything / change i made on iPhone during this period? : ((

  • IPad 3 won't sync after upgrade to iOS 8.1.3

Since upgrading to iOS 8.1.3 my iPad will not sync with iTunes. I have left it attached to my computer overnight while the sync wheel keeps spinning, to no avail. iTunes says there is 900mb of space left, while the iPad says 37.0 GB of space remains. Any help would be appreciated.

When you look at the capacity bar at the bottom of iTunes when the iPad is connected to your computer, the iPad is selected and iTunes is running, what does the storage for "other" read? How much of "other" data is there?
Have you tried ejecting the iPad, quitting iTunes, reboot the computer and reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time until the Apple logo appears on the screen, then try again?
You could also try updating iTunes. It looks like you are running an older version.

  • Games and purchases won't sync after upgrade to itunes 8.1.1.10

    Hi,
I've just upgraded to itunes 8.1.1.10 (because itunes asked it when I started it up), but since then it has been behaving rather strangely.
First, itunes claims my computer is no longer autorised. However, when I try to re-autorise him, I just recieve a message saying it is already.
When I synced my ipod, all my purchased songs and games disappeared from it (I guess because itunes somehow still thinks the pc isn't autorised).
I tried to re-sync the games, but now he's started to optimalise my 8000 photos, but the games refuse to sync.
Does anyone have an idea on how to solve this? tia
