Iphone won't turn on past apple logo, can't restore. HELP

All of a sudden tonight, my iphone 4s restarted, but it only got to the apple logo screen, then restarted again.  It was doing that repeatedly every 10 seconds or so for the last few hours.  The only thing I could do was turn it off completely but only if it wasn't plugged in.  If I plugged it into a power source it kept restarting and I couldn't even turn it off.  But turning it off didn't do anything anyway because when I turned it on again it just continued doing the same restart cycle.  I tried a reset, which had no effect at all.  I tried to do a complete restore using itunes, several times.  It starts to restore but then I get a message "The iphone (iphone) could not be restored.  An unknown error occurred (9)."  I made sure itunes and OS X were up to date, restarted my computer, and tried again a few times with the same failed result.  And now the phone doesn't continually loop through the apple logo.  Instead, after the apple logo, it shows the connect-to-itunes screen (in order to do a restore, but like I said, that doesn't work) and stays on that screen for a minute until it turns off.  (But again, if I leave it plugged in, it doesn't stay off.  It keeps turning back on and it stays at the connect-to-itunes screen until I turn it off.)
So I don't know what options I have left.  As far as I can tell, I have a brick that lights up with an apple logo or itunes logo.
One thing that did happen earlier today that could be related: I tried to update my iphone (I believe I have 7.0.4 and it was updating to 7.0.6?) but something weird happened during the update (can't remember exactly) and I ended up having to restart my phone without it finishing the update.  It wouldn't let me update after that, which I didn't really care about, so I just left it with the ios version I had.  Then later in the evening this happened.
One other small thing to note (probably insignificant)-- When the phone kept going through the apple logo loop, right before the screen went black and it restarted, the apple logo would grow dim and there was sometimes a horizontal line across the screen, then it went to black.
If anybody has any ideas, please help!  It would be much appreciated.  I don't want to have to buy a new phone so soon.  Apple products are supposed to have a long life span!  And I've never jailbroken it or done anything out of the ordinary.

  • Iphone won't turn on (White apple logo)

    Hey Everyone,
Recently my iPhone was being funny and Instagram was crashing whenever I tried to upload a picture so I decided to power it off with a assistive touch and turn it back on by plugging it in, which usually worked for me.
This time when I plug it in, it just stays on the apple logo and it has been doing that for the past 5 hours.
My power button is broken so my options are really limited. I do however have access to the inside of the phone because the back is removable.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Iphone won't turn on past apple sign...

I turned my iphone 3g off about 3 hours ago as during a phone call I got cut off and it said 'no service'
When I tried to turn it on again, the apple sign would just appear but just stay like that, it won't turn on!!
From time to time it will flash a white screen but then go back to the apple sign.
I can't sync it to itunes either to do a restore as it won't recognise it when I plug it into the usb.
Any ideas on what I can do, or do I just have to get a replacement?
    Thanks in advance!!

Try to reset the phone first.
Hold the home button and the sleep/wake button down until the phone powers off.
If this doesn't work, follow this KB to force restore.

  • IPhone will not turn on past Apple logo...help

I recently restored my iPhone 3G and it died during the restore to factory settings. I let it charge overnight and then tried to power it on and it comes to the Apple logo on the screen for 10 seconds and then just shuts off again. I tried to connected to computer and still the same outcome. The computer does not even know its there. iTunes and everything else works fine because i hooked my 3GS up and it knows its there. What do i do next, take it to apple? Please help

Try to force it into recovery mode. Disconnect it from the USB cord. Press and hold the home button while plugging in the computer's USB cord. Continue holding the Home button while iPhone starts up. While starting up, you will see the Apple logo. When you see "Connect to iTunes" on the screen, you can release the Home button and iTunes will display the recovery mode message. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808

If it is an Apple Retail store they pretty much have the ability to complete the steps in that article (although there may be a charge if you are not covered in warranty but they'll tell you).
If repairing the drive does not resolve the issue and a reinstall is needed you may wish to wait until you are home rather than completing at the store as that process 1.) Really requires a backup of your important data for safe keeping which takes time so should be done at home and 2.) Takes 30-45 minutes minimum.  You may not want to have to hang around the store while it reinstalls.
    Best of luck.

  • My iPhone won't come off the Apple logo when turning on.

Hello and thank you for taking the time to read this post.
I accidentally left my iPhone 4 outside on the table for a week or so and upon charging the iPhone came on as usual and worked as usual, apart from I had to hold the off button and the home button at the same time for it to turn on but this worked first time however. When the iPhone then died and I charged it again the apple logo appears for a while, then disappears and then re-appears. I've tried holding the home button and the off button at the same time but that doesn't seem to do anything but make the iPhone show the Apple logo again.
I was just wondering if there is anything I can do to fix this iPhone as I need it dearly or would I need to get a new one completely.
    Thank you.

    Did it get liquid damaged?
Look inside the headphone port, you will either be able to see a red or a white dot at the end of it.
If it is white, then you should be ok from liquid damage.
Next thing to do is to plug phone into iTunes, then to hold home and power button for 10 seconds, then let go of power but keep hold of home. iTunes should say it has discovered an iPhone in recovery mode and needs to be restored. Restore it and see if that does it. If it doesn't, then yeh, its dead

  • IPod won't turn on. Apple logo flashes, charged for 6+ hours

My iPod touch won't turn on at all. When I plug the charger into a wall, the apple logo just flashes on and off. When I hold the home and power button for a reset, a picture with the itunes symbol and charger comes up and thats it, it doesn't go past that and if I release the two buttons, it just goes back to flashing the logo. When I connect to the computer, it won't even charge and my computer won't detect the iPod. It's def not a dead battery considering so many people are having this issue. How do I fix it?

  • Mac won't boot up past apple logo and spinning wheel

It wasn't responding at all, so I had to hard shut off (Hold down power for 10 seconds). When I tried booting it up, this happened. So after 10 minutes, I tried to hard shut off again, and retry. Same problem. I didn't know what to do at that point. Needless to say it's now off, but when I try to turn it on, it goes to the apple logo, the wheel sins endlessly.
I just got a new hard drive and battery in January. I can't lose this because it has some VERY important information on it

ok, it MIGHT be the hard drive, but I don't know enough to be for sure. When I booted from the leopard disc, it couldn't dint my hard drive to install it on. I went to disc utility, and it did show my dvd drive, but not my hard drive. I tried booting without the disc and holding option down, and nothing happened. I tried booting holding down the s key, and a folder icon showed up that had a question mark over it.
    Any advice?

  • IPhone 4 stuck on apple logo, can't restore (3194 error)

I'm pretty sure my iPhone 4 is in a reboot cycle. I put it into recovery mode and try to restore but I get the 3194 error. The phone then goes right back to the apple logo, occasionally going back, then reappearing again.
My iPhone has no sim card and this arose because I updated my ios to 7.1.1 but couldn't get it past the activation screen (because it has no sim card and for some reason apple won't allow it).

I forgot to say that I did edit the hosts file and removed all lines containing apple.com and yet I still get the same 3194 error.

  • IPhone stuck at apple logo, can't restore

My iPhone started to randomly restart, decided to restore since it was annoying, but before restoring, I had the incredible idea of turning the iPhone on and off to see if that fixed the problem, it didn't and now I'm stuck in the apple logo, I can't enter DFU since my lock button doesn't work and it seems that not only freezes but also wont connect with my PC's, not even with the wall charger
    any thoughts?

  • IPhone 4, ios6, keeps crashing, showing apple logo, and needing restore

I have a factory unlocked iPhone 4, iOS 6.0.1, which has recently started going into recovery mode repeatedly. It has so far done it twice, seemingly at random. Twice I have reached into my pocket to use it, to find it stuck at the "connect to iTunes" symbol. Both times I have indeed connected it to iTunes and I've gone through full restores. The first time I restored from a backup, and then the last time after it did the same thing I restored from scratch, since I've read that that can help if there is some corrupt code in a backup.
Just today, it has crashed three times, but in a different way. No "connect to iTunes" symbol this time. Twice it happened while I was talking with someone, and one time just while it was sitting on my desk.
Now I can watch it cycling through the apple logo restart. Each time the screen will fade out, almost like the power has been cut, showing a red line across the screen before the logo fades away. Then the logo will come on again, and it will repeat this process for about a minute, before it finally completes a restart and returns to the lock screen and acts like nothing has happened.
This is driving me nuts. The phone has never been physically damaged. Is there anything I can do besides bring it to a technician? I live in Sweden, so it's bound to cost me a fortune to get it fixed for some manufacturing/software error. I've never had to get it fixed before so I'm unsure what my rights are. Is there a way to get it repaired for free? It's not under any type of warranty or contract.
    Any info/help would be appreciated.

I have been having the same issue with a iphone 4s. I went in to the Apple store this weekend and I was asked to setup as a new phone (not restore from backup) and that should fix it. Nope, nada. Still did the above cycle of death - reboots, apple logo and sometimes comes back but more often than not goes into "connect to itunes" mode. It happends randomly too - when an app is launched or sometimes just when it is sitting there. I have another Genius Bar appointment this afternoon - lets see what they have to say this time. Bummer is this is supposedly a new replacement phone they gave me a couple of months back when my previous phone (another 4s) died randomly.
