IPhone won't update to 1.1.1, problem downloading software

I have not installed any 3rd party apps or tried to mess with my phone at all. When I try to update the phone, the update downloads and as soon as it finishes I get:
"There was a problem downloading the iPhone software for the iPhone "xxx's iPhone". An unknown error occurred (-48). Make sure your network setting are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later."
Any ideas?
I've tried resetting the iPhone several times and rebooted the computer.

Disregard, I found it in the /library/itunes/iPhone Software Updates. That seems to have fixed it...although I haven't updated my phone just yet...it looks like lot's of people are having problems with this update. I think I'll wait a little while.

  • My 3G iphone won't update from 3.1.3.

My 3G iphone won't update from 3.1.3. Was running iTunes 10.2.1 and had to turn off wireless for iTunes to recognize the phone. Have installed iTunes 10.4, but now it doesn't open right away. When it finally does, it recognizes the phone and reminds me it needs updating. I can back up/sync normally, but when I try to update the software, I get the back up status bar for 24+ hours. It never installs the software. As a result, I have not updated the phone's software.

You cannot downgrade but as modular suggests you may want to restore the phone from your backup. If that still doesn't work then restore as a new phone.

  • IPad update Error- There was a problem downloading the software for the iPad .... network settings

"iPad update Error- There was a problem downloading the software for the iPad X you do not have enough access privileges for this operation. Make sure your network settings are correct and your connection is active, or try again." is the error. The rest of iTunes, sycning, and ipad operations work. I am on OSX 10.6.8. iTunes is the most recent addition.
I've been having this problem for a while but it has yet to go away. Any help please?

OK. Good. The most likely culprit is either your firewall or anti-virus software. Temporarily disable both while you are doing the update (then, of course, turn them back on when you are done).

  • My iPhone won't update to ios 5 :^(

I have an iPhone, i'm not sure what kind, but it won't update to ios 5 it has ios 4.2.1 on it and when i click "check for update" it says "this version of iPhone software (4.2.1) is the current version". I am using a mac with os x Snow Leopard iTunes 10.6

Then it's probably and iPhone 3G, which can't be updated beyond 4.2.1.  You can look here to identify it: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3939.

  • Iphone won't update to 6.1.3

My iphone 4s won't update to 6.1.3. When I try to update it, it takes a little while to verify it, and then a pop up comes up saying "Software update is not available at this time. Try again later." I have tried again later, and it is still not working. Is there any way I could maybe update to ios 7 if ios 6.1.3 will not work either?

  • IPhone won't update from 4.3.1 to 5.0.1

I have been trying to update my roommates iPhone 3GS software from 4.3.1 to 5.0.1 on iTunes.
When I try to click update, a message pops up saying "There was a problem downloading the software for the iPhone. The netwoek connection could not be established"
I have tried looking for stuff online, but have not been successful in fixing it. I have backed it up and restored it; I have also reset it, but nothing is working.
She has a Mac OS X, Version 10.6.8.
    iTunes is updated to 10.5.3
Another issue is that her phone always says "Charging is not supported with this accessory" with the little yellow triangle when it is not plugged in at all!

    Two separate issues.
To solve the first one, make sure any firewall is off and log out, then back in to iTunes. I assume you're oing this on the computer that is normally used by the iPhone to sync to. Otherwise, everything on the phone will be wiped out.
To solve the second issue, try to Restet the phone, although you might need to move to a Restore.
    Try to Reset your device:
Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears (ignore the Slide to Power Off option that shows up first).

  • Iphone won't update to 3.1

My iPhone will not update to update 3.1. It says there is an internal error. Any easy fixes for this? iTunes is up to date and I have restarted the computer.

Consider yourselves lucky, OS 3.1 has to be the worst, buggiest OS Apple has ever released.I have a 32GB iPhone 3GS and, unfortunately, I successfully updated it to 3.1, I now spend my evenings looking for a way to get the stable OS 3.0 restored which seems impossible currently. My advice is to stick with 3.0 for as long as you can.

  • IPhone won't update to 2.1 Software NEED HELP

OK, so I just tried to download and install the 2.1 update. The download went successful, but when it tried to install.. the progress bar stopped at about 80% .. i left it there and came back like an hour later and it was still stuck at that same spot... so, i unplugged it and the phone wouldn't work without restoring it so i tried to do the restore and the same thing happened... it gets stuck at about 80% and i've left it on there for hours to see if it was just taking a while to update but it would never move from there. Now my iPhone is useless and it keeps saying i need to plug it into iTunes(activate it) to get it to work but that isn't working either.
The error I get when i unplug the phone says "The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An unknown error occured[9]"
What can i do about this? Please help

I have an original day 1 phone. I am attempting to update to 2.1 and after downloading the software, when I connect to iTunes I first get an message "waiting for iPhone" and then after about 1 minute it gives me this message " The iPhone cannot be used with iTunes because the information required for activation could not be obtained from the iPhone." I have checked that the SIM is inserted correctly and it is not PIN - locked.
I have restarted the phone, computer and coffee pot.
Any help would be appreciated...phone in emergency only mode.

  • Problem downloading software for iPhone

Is anyone else finding it impossible to update iPhone software to 4.3.2 from 4.3.1?  I keep getting the following message:
"There was a problem downloading the software for the iPhone.  An unknown error occurred (12003).  Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later".
iPad update performed without a hitch.
Perhaps the Genius Bar can perform the update for me?
    Thank you!
    Roman

I had this same problem and solved it when I realized that the software upgrade download was about 600MB, but I had less free space available on the iPhone.
So I deleted some large music files to make space available, then started the upgrade again and it worked fine.
One caveat: since I had "Automatically fill free space with songs" checked in iTunes, under the iPhone "Music" tab, simply deleting songs from the iPhone's playlist did not clear up the space.  Other songs got loaded to fill up the space.  I had to uncheck "Automatically fill free space with songs" as well as delete songs in order to free up the space.
    Hope this helps.

  • Ipad ios 4.2 update error - "there was a problem downloading the software..

    Hi All -
Super excited to get 4.2.1 up and running. I had the buggy beta of 4.2 running on my iPad but now when I try to restore my iPad to get the most recent version of 4.2.1 running, I get this error:
"There was a problem downloading the software for the iPad. The requested resource was not found.
I've restarted iTunes and the computer and I'm still getting the same error. I've looked for the .ipsw file online but can't seem to find it anywhere. It's not an Apple's Support/Downloads section either.
Anyone know where to download the new update? I'm dying without Airplay, Airprint and so on not working here.
    Thanks!
    CH

    Hi,
this should have been addressed by Apple I guess, but luckily we found out the solution in the company. Yesterday all our iPads (with 4.2 beta iOS for dev) stopped working, displayed the Connect to iTunes scrren and throw errors when trying to sync like 'The requested resource was not found' (when tried to Restore) and Error Code: 0xE800005D (when iTunes first just tried to reinstall apps).
Here is what we did to reanimate all four iPads in the company:
First you need to enter Recovery mode with the iPad, then recover the iOS software (probably the latest). Here is how to do it:
    1) Fire up iTunes on your computer, and plug in the USB cable in the computer, but not in the iPad!
    2) Do a hard reset, ie. press and hold down Sleep/Wake and Home buttons simultaneously, don't bother with the switch off prompt, just keep pushing the buttons.
    3) When the screen goes blank, but before the Apple logo comes up, release the Sleep/Wake button and quickly plug in the USB into the iPad too. Keep pushing the Home button, until the Recovery mode dialog in iTunes comes up.
    4) Act according to the prompts, and wait for the image to download and extract (can be 10-15 minutes depending on your internet connection, the image is some 550Mb).
That's it, you can safely restore your apps and other content to your recovered iPad.
    Hope this helps,
    David
