  • One way to get an iPhone out of Recovery Mode.

So browsing through this forums and many others trying to figure out how I can update to iOS5 with out error codes, I have noticed a lot of people are "bricking" their iPhones.
This is the solution I use, and it does the trick everytime.
Make sure when you open itunes with the iPhone connected it says something like "We have detected a iPhone in recovery mode blah blah blah"
If not put it in DFU mode. If you dont know how just quickly google it.
    Next Download TinyUmbrella http://cache.firmwareumbrella.com/downloads/tinyumbrella-5.00.12a.exe
Launch the program and a bunch of little in program windows will pop up. You can simply click ok, doesnt really pertain to you unless youve jailbroken your phone or are using it to format.
Your iDevice will show up on the left side under recovery. Click that and on the upper right it should say exit recovery and whaa laa.
    No more bricked iphone.
Once you are done be sure to go to ((C://windows/system32/drivers/etc/host) and open the host file in notepad and delete the apple website in there. Otherwise you wont be able to have itunes verify with the apple servers in the future.
Hope this wasnt to confusing please post questions if you have any.

If this is done on a Mac (unchecked some Cydia-related boxes under "Advanced" tab), is there any need to "open the host file and delete the apple website in there"? If there is, any idea how to access that in a Mac? Thanks..

  • Original iPhone stuck in recovery mode

    Hello Everyone!
I recently decided to clean out my fully functional original iPhone by pressing Erase All Content and Settings in the Settings App.  When the process finished, the phone was in Recovery Mode (which apparently is normal), but iTunes didn't give me an option to restore the phone.  I can see the phone under Devices, but there aren't any options:
I tried using a Hard Reset (no change) and then put the phone in DFU mode and then iTunes went through the process of downloaded and installing the firmware (progress bar on the phone, and everything), but once it finished, the phone rebooted into Recovery Mode.
I loaded RecBoot, but pushing buttons doesn't seem to do anything.  I've also tried TinyUmbrella, but my only option is Enter Recovery (Exit Recovery is grayed out).  When I press Enter Recovery in TinyUmbrella, the log says "Sending enter recovery request to iPhone", but nothing seems to happen.
One last detail -- whenever I connect the phone, it shows up in iTunes, and the message "Accessing iTunes Store..." shows up in the iTunes status window for about five seconds, but then there are no other messages.
Some possible clues from system.log (I've redacted some ID's):

    Any ideas??

I also have the same problem. I am running 10.6.8 with iTunes 10.5. I am getting similar error:
11/13/11 11:06:55 PM          iTunes[3291]          AMDeviceLookupApplications (thread 0xb0491000): Was unable to start the install service on the device: 0xe800005d
I think something has broken between AT&T and Apple iTunes Store, because I got it to (almost) re-activate, but it never was able to sync anything and I still had the recovery mode "connect to itunes" on the phone. I was stupid to do a "full wipe" on the phone before shifting it from one kid to another kid, and now I have a brick!
I don't want to get into jailbreaking the phone just to get it to work. I keep looking for some "hidden" control-key sequences, but to no avail. I'll probably end up visiting the Apple genius bar, unless anyone has suggestions here that don't involve jailbreak.

You will have to put your phone into recovery mode and restore the phone as new. Since you don't have a back up, you will lose all the data on your phone but you will be able to use it again.
Use this article iOS: Forgotten passcode or device disabled after entering wrong passcode

  • Is it all the data on the iphone is deleted when iphone is in Recovery Mode?

is it all the data on the iphone from the past is deleted when iphone is in Recovery Mode? or is there anyway i can manage the data from the past when my iphone is in Recovery Mode?  or is it when my iphone is in Recovery Mode, all the data from the past is clear and its all fresh disk like the new iphone? is there anyway i can still acess the old data on iphone in recovery mode?

Depends. There is no supported method, from Apple, to exit recovery mode, other than restoring your phone. That, of course, means that all data on your phone gets erased. There are third-party utilities, like RecBoot, that claim to be able to get an iPhone in/out of recovery mode with the push of a button. You can search for these yourself.

  • HT201412 iPhone 4 in recovery mode

My iphone 4 is in recovery mode and i  don't know how to get it back working, every time I connect it to itunes a message comes up telling me that my computer has detected a iPhone in recovery mode, my only choice then is to let it update it and then to restore it but when i go to restore it, it comes up extracting iphone then an error comes up saying itunes cannot restore your iphone unknown error (21). I dont know what to do as I have tried everything like pressing the home and power button and all that. My iphone wont turn on unless charging and when it is charging all that comes up is a picture of a usb and itunes and i cannot do anything else with it, anybody any suggestions??

The only recommendation that we could make is to follow this support document about restoring, however if it will not restore after multiple attempts and does not return an error code, then I suggest making an appointment at the Genius Bar at Apple to have the device examined. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
