Iphone3g connection to HDTV--what cable, what dock?

I want to connect my, soon to be ordered, Iphone 3g to my kitchen's HDTV. I am still a little confused about a dock for the iphone that will normally be in my kitchen. My kitchen tv supports Component HD connections. (This tv is currently connected, as a slave, via a single cable through the wall to living room tv and Dish receiver--and there are the five connection "ports" available on the back of this tv--for connection to an Apple Component AV cable.) However, the Apple material on this cable only says iphone not iphone 3g. Can this cable plug directly into Iphone 3G? OR could this cable plug directly into the Iphone 3G Dock (on line literature says this dock can connect to a stereo or speakers using an AV cable or a stereo audio cable to play music from IPhone 3G, but it doesn't say anything about its being able to connect to a tv.) So, what dock with what cable could connect my iphone 3g to my tv--so that I can watch video podcasts on my tv in the kitchen?

The Apple Component AV Cable will work directly from the iPhone, and is compatible with the iPhone 3G. The Apple Universal Dock will output video from the iPhone 3G when the Apple Component AV Cable is connected to it (you'd need the iPhone 3G adapter for the Universal Dock, too).
Hope this helps...

    Welcome to the Apple community.
The HDMI cable goes from the Apple TV to the TV.

  • If I get the Apple Universal Dock , what cable do I then need to get video from the dock to my HDTV . What about audio ?

If I get the Apple Universal Dock , what cable do I then need to get video to my HDTV ? What about the audio portion ?

OK, so that part is correct. Then, do I just hookup and it automatically goes onto my computer? What will capture it, or will it simply show on my desktop and I need to open it with...what?

  • What cable do I need to hook-up my laptop to my HDTV

I am purchasing my new MacBook air tommorow and I just want to know what cable I need to buy to hook-up my MacBook air to my HDTV, preferably using the HDMI connection if possible.

You'll need to purchase a MiniDisplay Port to HDMI adapter. Apple does not make one, but many retail stores carry an aftermarket one from Moshi.

There are other ones, much cheaper ones.

  • HDMI cable connected from TV to Mac, what do I click on to get the movie on my laptop screen to show on my TV screen?

HDMI cable connected from TV to Mac, what do I click on to get the movie on my laptop screen to show on my TV screen?

When you first hook it up it will probably have the display set in Extended Desktop mode. The Menu Bar and Dock will be on the MacBook display and your background screen on the TV but you can move the cursor onto the TV screen.
In System Preferences>Display on the MacBook screen there should be an Arrangement tab when you have the MacBook hooked up to the TV and both screens working. When you click the Arrangement tab do you see two monitors side by side? One of them will have a Menu Bar at the top. Just click on the Menu Bar and drag it to the second monitor. That will make the second monitor your main screen.
The TV will now have the Dock and Menu Bar and windows will open on it. But you can move the cursor to the MacBook screen and move windows from the TV over to the MacBook screen.
You can now use your MacBook in Clamshell Mode with a wired or Bluetooth keyboard and mouse.  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3131 When you disconnect from the TV your Menu Bar will automatically change back to the MacBook.
Or if you want to use the MacBook’s keyboard and trackpad to work on the MacBook screen while showing it on a TV you can check the Mirror Display box on the lower left hand side of the Arrangement tab under the two monitors box. That will give you the same screen at the same resolution on both the MacBook and the external monitor.

Will a docking station help? whats in the docking station??
    THANKS
    Etty

    M11-103 that's my model name...
how do i check if i have an integrated modem?
the thing is, if i do or even if i get an external solution, i still have to plug the pc to the phone line, using the old phone line cable...
as for the hdmi, the end of the cable that connects to the tv needs to b hdmi but on my notebook the socket i have is a mini port, so what do u call the cable that has miniport on one end and hdmi on the other?
now, i have a couple of more questions, every time i listen to music or watch a movie and i tilt the notebook just a bit, the music/video skips, stops or is stuck for 2-3 seconds... why is that and how do i make it stop? could it b a mechanical problem?
and one more thing, on my device manager i see two audio devices, one is Intel(R) display audio
the second is realtek(R) high definition audio with ec, what does that mean and how do i look for maybe a software to help me configure more advanced qualities of my audio cause for now its not so good.... (add maybe reverb, enhance sound stuff like that that usually come with the realtek(R) audio cards)
    THANKS for everything....

  • EXACTLY what cable(s) do I need to connect my MacBook Pro (early 2011) to an external display with a 2560x1440 resolution?

I am trying to connect my MacBook Pro (early 2011 w/ Intel HD 3000/ 384Mb) to an external display with a 2560x1440 resolution. Specifically, what cable/connections do I need to display at this resolution? I cannot get the display to work using a "Thunderbolt to HDMI" or a "Thunderbolt to DVI" connector.  Note:  I used both older and newer (uni-directional) HDMI cables on the first config, and a Dual-link DVI cable on the second config.   Apple specs state this is possible ( support.apple.com/kb/SP619 ), but I am at a loss as to how this can be done.  Thanks in advance for the help!

You use a Mini DisplayPort to either HDMI or dual-link DVI adapter. If that component doesn't work, something's wrong with either the cable or something else in the connection.

What cable/adapter do I need to connect my MacBook Pro to a Sharp Aquos TV?
I want to watch videos on youtube or read articles on my laptop, and I want a cable/adapter that will hook up the Macbook to the TV and display the webpage that is on the laptop.

Of course it doesn't. But you can buy an adaptor from HDMI to the Mini-DisplayPort port on the computer.

Actually you need a Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter. It will carry both audio and video.
This one will work: Mini DisplayPort | Thunderbolt® to HDMI® Adapter w/ Audio Support

  • What cable(s) do I need to connect my late 2011 MacBook Pro to the new VIZIO HDMI tv in my classroom?

I want to use the VIZIO large-screen TV mounted on the wall of my classroom to mirror the screen on my new MacBook Pro.
I am already mirroring my iPad 2 with GREAT results using AppleTV.  Using the HD Note Taker App is a dream.
Graphing calculator apps are brilliant, too.  ( I teach Precalculus and AP Calculus)
But now I need to be able to do new things that cannot be done on the iPad.  What cables and/or adaptors do I need so that the
flat-screen TV becomes a another monitor?

You need a MiniDisplay port to HDMI adapter and a HDMI cable.  The MDP adapter plugs into the Thunderbolt port.

When you first connect, it will default to "extended desktop mode".   To mirror, press CMD F1 or set mirror mode in System Preferences > Displays > Arrangement tab

  • What cables do I need to connect MacBook Pro to the TV VGA port

    Nov 6, 2014 7:01 PM
    Hi,
The HDMI port on my Maxent tv is not working.  I am hoping to connect my MacBook Pro to the TV via the VGA port on the TV to watch Netflix and movies.  What cables do I need that will connect to a VGA port on a TV from my MacBook Pro (2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo)?  And will that cable support audio or will I need a separate audio cable?
    Thanks-
    Sheri
    OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)

    Hey Sheri Lynn,
Thanks for the question. Our online store has a helpful tool that should guide you through the process of picking the best adapter for your MacBook model. You can check it out here:
Get help choosing Mac video adapters - Apple Store (U.S.)
    http://store.apple.com/us/mac/mac-accessories/cables/cable-chooser#!
If you are connecting via VGA you will need a separate audio cable if your TV supports it.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

What cable do I need to connect my 27 inch iMac to my Cinema Display to have two displays?

It depends on what type(s) of video input you have on your TV. If you've an open HDMI port on your TV, you can use a Thunderbolt (Mini DisplayPort) to HDMI adapter and it will carry the sound also. See -> here.
    Good luck,
