Iphone4 16gb free space (win vs itunes) capacity discrepancy

Hi
I know win/itunes rapport wrong numbers....  but didnt know it was that much error.
What do Itunes count?
is it 900mb for apps/games/books etc and 800gb to ios?
or can i put 1,68gb music or something thru itunes without a problem??
Is there any cache files i can delete or something to free up space?
(yes i could delete a few apps/games instead.. ;-))

Did you Empty the trash after you deleted the files?

  • ITunes 10 Auto Fill Free Space Results in "Over Capacity" Warning.

In iTunes 9 when i had "Automatically fill free space with songs" checked, it would fill my iPhone to about 100MB or so short of full. Very full, but enough space left to be able to download some apps or maybe some music directly to my phone.
In iTunes 10, clicking the very same option results in iTunes telling me that my phone will now be 0.34GB Over Capacity. I tried to do things like unsync large video files, but nothing seems to work. If i unclick "Auto fill" I have 9GB empty, but as soon as i put it back on it jumps over the limit.
    Anyone else having this problem?

Hi, had similar problem on iPad.
Overcame this by setting manual sync on the summary page as mentioned by John Ruffel previously.
then created a smart play list (File menu or ctrl Alt N) with the following rule:
'Size' 'is greater than' '1' MB
Limit to (check box) 12 GB selected by random   Note change to suit your device capacity
    Save
Give the smart play list a sensible name.
Select it to check there is some music in it.
If you are happy then drag it to your device, which should then sync automatically.
It worked for me, good luck.

  • After a restore still not enough free space to download itunes library

After several problems syncing my ipod/itunes (I had not used either in a long time), I downloaded the new version of itunes and still had problems. Then I restored my ipod through this new version of itunes and now it says I do not have enough free space to update my ipod and this bar located at the summary tab says I have 4gb available, which doesn't make sense to me since I thought I had 60gb (I really don't understand this stuff). Yet when I turn on my ipod there is absolutely nothing on it (since I restored it). I'm so confused...help!

    Which iPod do you have?

  • Why is the free space different in iTunes and iPhone?

I can not download an app update because I don't have enough room on my iiPhone. I  plug it into iTunes and it says I have 3.23 GB free. Why the difference? I have synced several times. Also, I think I remember in the past the iPhone has kept some old backups on it taking up space. I can't find those now. Where would they be if they exist?
I have an iPhone 5S with the software up to date. I have an iMac with the Mavericks software and iTunes up to date.
    Thanks
    Carl

Simple solution. Totally erase all your music from the ipod. then try transferring it all back on, or just what you want, if not all of it. This should pretty much correct it. Good luck!

  • Iphone 5s Free space different in Itunes and Iphone

    Ok,
I deleted all caches and junk I could find. When I access settings -> Usage -> It shows 4,6 GB free, but in itunes it shows 5,4GB free. Why is that difference so big?
Second question, Why after deleting everything I could, and all caches I still have 1,21Gb Others and 900MB of Documents and data?
    Thanks

  • TS1503 After an update on my iPhone 4, (I updated using my MacBook Pro) I first received the message, iTunes was not able to load all of iTunes library back on your phone, not enough free space on your phone. (not an exact quote, essentially the same mean

The complete iTunes library was already on my iPhone 4. Why would it all not go back on? It left out around 4 or 5 songs from my play list. How do I get them back on my iPhone?
Note: All software on both devices is up to date.
Then, I tried to sync my iPhone to my MacBook Pro. I got the message, cannot sync your iPhone because there is not enough free space in the iTunes library (not exact quote, but same meaning).
I researched how to get more free space on my phone which might 'supposedly' alleviate the above issues. I removed some less used apps, and some photos and videos from my phone. Then, I tried backing up again. I still got the message there wasn't enough free space on my phone, and the missing songs from the iTunes library were not returned to my phone. I gave another try at syncing my iPhone. I still got the same message that the phone couldn't be synced because  there wasn't enough free space in the iTunes library.
Any suggestions on how to remedy these problems will be appreciated!
BTW... I read a suggestion on the internet to restore my phone (I did  this recently when something went wrong during a phone update and the whole process went 'hey-wire', shutting down before the update was complete. However, at that time, all of my songs and apps were still on my phone and stored in the iTunes library.) If I restore my iPhone now, will the apps and songs no longer on my phone be lost?
Sorry there are so many questions within the same 'New Discussion' thread I'm starting! But, I think all of these issues are somehow related.
    Thanks!

I Have fumbled all day to this resolved, I'll run the battery down and see what happens afterwards. This is not good !

  • ITunes syncing error reports not enough free space

Having an issue with syncing the iPad where iTunes reports that there is not enough free space to transfer the selected data. In this case it was an app(The Elements) which is 1.78 GB. The iPad has 3.8 GB free space, yet the app cannot be transfered because there is "Insufficient space". I used to see the same problem with my iPhone when attempting to sync back the photos i just copied off the camera app. There is definately free space, but iTunes seems to see something different than what is reported.
BTW. I could not sync the app to the iPad using iTunes, but there was enough free space to directly download the app on the iPad. Seems like a problem with iTunes to me.
Is iTunes and the iPad reporting an incorrect amount of free space? Can iTunes be forced to transfer apps without checking for the amount of free space? Any other ideas?

It seems like double the size of the app is needed to install it on the device.

  • HT1766 When syncing, iTunes tells me that there is not enough space on my iPhone, even though there are 20GB of free space

There obviously IS enough free space, yet somehow iTunes seems to think there isn't.
What do I do? Did somebody have this problem before?
Tried restarting, switching on and off, nothing worked

    Unfortunately that's not the case.
I didn't confuse it with my iCloud storage. I'm talking specifically about the storage ON my iPhone.
When syncing the diagram on the bottom of the page (you know the coloured one that gives you Audio, Photos, Apps...) shows me that I have more than 20GB of remaining space.
And I'm trying to get audio on it which is definitely LESS than 20 GB. So it should fit.
But it still gives me the error message that the data I'm trying to sync to my phone is too large

  • Not enough free space in iTunes???

Ok after 4 hours of messing with this, I NEED help.
I tried to put some music into iTunes library and I went to "Update songs" and I get an error saying there is not enough free space in the iTunes library.... So I'm stuck with an Ipod nano that I can't add any songs to. I need help ASAP
There is also a lock at the bottom beside free space, does that matter at all?

    It tells you what's wrong!
The content of your iTunes Library that you are trying to put onto your iPod is greater than the space on the iPod. It states that you need another 15.06GB on the iPod in order to put everything onto it.
It looks to me as though you have a 32GB iPod and you have 8Gb of audio (that's Music, Podcasts and Audiobooks), 10GB of video and 5.9Gb of Apps. Although the amount of "Other" is a little high, it's not the problem. You have about 3.1GB of space remaining that can be used.
So, what are you now trying to put onto your iPod that is new? Is it music or video? Or have you changed the "Pictures" folder that iTunes is using to Sync pictures?
If it's music, that's a lot! Have you have added a lot more music to your iTunes Library? 15.06GB plus the 3.1GB free space means about 18Gb more music. You only have 8Gb on there at the moment, so that would mean you've added more than twice as much as you already had.
If it's video, since you currently have 10Gb of video on the iPod, adding another 18GB is also a lot of extra, nearly as much as you already had.
As for pictures. When your iPod is connected to your iTunes Library, look on the Device/Photos pane and check which folder is being used by iTunes to put pictures onto the iPod. Then in Windows Explorer, have a look at that folder. Have you added a lot more pictures to it, say from your camera? Or does the folder have a lot of sub-folders in it that have recently been added?
The main Sync (parent) folder appears on the iPod as Photo Library and the Sub-folders (child) appear on the iPod as named folders listed below the Photo Library. So on the iPod, the parent folder has every single picture in it that is in both the parent and child folders.

  • ITunes Match on the iPhone 4 uses all free space

iTunes Match on the iPhone 4 uses all available space (8GB). The deactivation and reactivation does not work. The problem persists! Even unplugging the Apple ID and opening the Music app there are still all the artists, playlists, albums, etc. etc. (in the settings app music occupies 0 bytes! Have not saved songs). I have already restored three times! restarting iPhone available space returns to 8GB, opening the Music app after a few minutes iOS noted that the space is occupied.
iPad 2 and iPhone 3GS regularly work with the same Apple ID!
    Any advice?

I am also reporting the same behavior.  I, like billybaloney, have an almost "topped-out" iTunes Match collection (I actually have to manage keeping the matched content under the Apple 25K limit, but that is a different matter).  Whenever I open Music app on my phone - 4S, iOS 7.11 - I see my available storage go to nil, and I start getting the "Storage Almost Full" messages.  Which, if you have received them, also puts a significant drag on the performance of the device.
I am fully aware of the download locally (device) of "played" content, so I expect the number of songs and albums I have played to be resident on the phone after, and that requiring manual cleanup.  I can see this by taking the phone offline (airplane mode, or literally out of coverage), and then opening the Music app and seeing only what is truly on the device.
I suspect that the "eater of free space" in the iTunes Match arena, for users with a large library of iCloud selections, is as simple as the iTunes library info to render for selection (not the music, but the artist, album, song and playlist lists, and the album artwork).  Resetting your phone is a PITA for workaround.  Something needs to be done, but I have a feeling nothing will.  Or it will require an iOS update to a newer version that my devices won't be eligible to load.
Any insight or help would be great.  Workarounds are only that: work arounds.  Solution is what is needed.

  • ITunes could not back up the iPhone because not enough free space is available on this computer

    iTunes 11.0.1 (22)
    Mac OS X 10.6.8
    218.83 GB available
    iOS 6.0.2
    iPhone5
I get this error occasionally since getting the iPhone5 in October. My last successful back up to thei Mac was yesterday. Tonight, no backup.
One time when this occurred I had trashed files, and after I emptied the Trash the sympton went away. Tonight I had files in the Trash and emptie the Trash before connecting my iPhone and now no backup allowed.
I have quit and relaunched iTunes, and unconnected and connected the iPhone tonight with no change in the symptom.
My next counter measure will be to reboot.
    Any suggestions?

On my computer (Spring 2006 iMac, Snow Leopard, iTunes 11.1.3):
      - I have 1.36 _terabytes_ of free space on my system disk.
      - I have 2.1 _terabytes_ of free space on my Drobo[*] which contains my iTunes library.
My iPhone is an iPhone 5S 64Gb.
A backup should require, one would assume, less than 64Gb. In other words, a drop in the ocean of free space available to iTunes.
... and yet EVERY time I attempt a backup to my computer since getting my 5S it says:
'iTunes could not back up the iPhone "[name]'s iPhone" because not enough free space is available on this computer. Removing files and emptying the Trash will free up additional space.'
It's very clear that there's a bug given how much space I have available, and it's been present for 2+ months. :/ I had been able to back up my iPhone 4S.
    - Stephen
[*] As far as the OS is concerned, the volume has 3.22Tb free, but it is backed by 2.10Tb of actual available space. In any case, "a whole heck of a lot".

  • Iphone shows 1gb and itunes 3gb free space

Why is that my iphone storage shows that I only have 1GB free but when I sync it through itunes shows that there's 3GB free space on my iphone. Where does the 2GB goes? Because I really need those 2GB space on my iphone cause the last update took a lot of space so I can't even download apps or keep my photos and keep deleting them Please help.

Yes, I see the same thing with my iPhone 3GS running iOS 4.2.1 (also never jailbroken), although I’ve seen this for a while with previous iOS releases, maybe even before iTunes 10. I see variations anywhere from 500MB to 2GB or more during the sync.
At the end of the sync, the amount of free space reported by iTunes matches what the iPhone says, but it’s still strange — is there space being taken up by something that could be freed up?

  • 72GB of free space missing...again.

Ok, so I have been having this issue intermittently since iOS 7.0. I am now on 8.3 (just upgraded to it this morning) but the problem is still here.
Basically, after a weekend of streaming a LOT of purchased videos to my iPad (not downloading them, mind you, but "streaming" from the cloud), my 128GB iPad will suddenly decide that it has no more free space. In Settings>General>Usage, it will show less than a gigabyte of free space; in fact this morning when I tried to update to 8.3 it told me there was not enough free space to even download the update.
I know for a FACT that I am only actually using about 30% or so of the device's capacity. I can go through the usage section and add everything up manually, or better yet, just plug it in to iTunes. iTunes will tell me that the iPad has 73GB of free space available!
Why the discrepancy? I've managed to fix this before (I do NOT want to factory restore, and quite frankly I shouldn't have to), but I can't remember how I did it. It seems to me that there is some sort of download cache that the iPad uses when I stream my purchased videos, then it forgets that it downloaded those and so it doesn't clean up after itself...
Any help here would be great...this is probably the 5th time I've had this happen after streaming a lot of my purchased videos, and streaming purchased videos is the only thing that seems to actually cause this storage capacity black hole.

Ok, after messing around a bit more it would appear that I've fixed the issue.
    Heres how:
In Settings>iTunes & App Store: Turn OFF Show All Music and Videos as well as iTunes Match.
Open the Videos app, hit edit, and delete anything that is showing up in there (even though there shouldn't be anything in there now since none of them have ever been downloaded by me).
Go back to Settings>iTunes & App Store, turn Show All Music and Videos and iTunes Match back ON.
