IPhone4 and WIFI Access
I understand you can use your iPhone4 to connect your laptop to the internet.....is this true and if so how does it work? My Verizon Access Manager just ask for my cell phone number to do this but don't really understand it.

I have included some additional information regarding the Hotspot feature for the iPhone 4 for your convenience.

Simultaneous LTE and WiFi access?
I'm considering getting Verizon 4G LTE service for my MacBook Pro, so I can access the Internet from all over Los Angeles. Assuming the basic service works, I am still worried about a potential problem that I have encountered using the Clearwire 4G service. That is, I want to know that if I am using Verizon LTE at a client's house, can I simultaneously access the client's in-house WiFi network for the purpose of using his printer? ( He has unreliable Internet access from his carrier, but I only want to wirelessly access his printer.) When I used CLEAR, I could only use WiFi or CLEAR at a time, so either I was accessing the Net on CLEAR, with Airport turned off, or I was on Airport WiFi, with Clear turned off. If they were both active simultaneously, CLEAR access failed. Not sure why. CLEAR support says you must turn off WiFi on the lap-top before using Clear. The explanation was vague - either it is because CLEAR is using the same spectrum as WiFi, or because my MacBook Pro wouldn't know which service to use to communicate to the Net or the printer. If this is a spectrum issue for CLEAR, I'm guessing Verizon would not have that problem. Can anybody comment on this?
If not, you should be able to find a printer share app to print across the internet to his printer using your 4G connection.

When I recently moved I had to upgrade to a new plan. There was a new feature I was told about Verizon wifi for notebooks at Verizon locations. I believe there was suppose to be a software download. Does anyone know anything about where to get the download?

I have connected an AirPlay enabled device to iphone4s. I started palying songs. I was able to access internet through 3G from iphone.After few seconds 3G symbol disappears and WiFi symbol appears. After that I'm not able to access internet. Why is it so?
SMS. Deggie, had them check that. After a lengthy discussion with Senior Tech advisor, it appears it is iMessage/Face Time server (they are the same) issue, which will strong arm those into purchasing Data if they use iMessage over multiple devices, as the server registers the phone number associated with apple ID. Iphone 4 wont connect to home wifi but connects to neighbors open wifi. Family members with iphones can connect to the wifi automatically and Mac compiuter in home connects to this wifi and this iphone did connect automaticcally until a few weeks ago. Does not request password when try to connect to own wifi..just says "cant access.". Also cant access the Apple apps store to purchase apps but all other function operate normally. Apple store tech says nothing wrong with phone. It connected to their wifi and coud access apps store from their wifi. This iphone belongs to son who is autistic. I am mother trying to resolve this issue and very frustrated. Have reset router but no change.
Based on the symptoms, your phone is fine, and the Router is the problem. Try http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398. Specifically the "forget this network" step. I would also consider resetting the wifi network password. Sometimes that will allow a connection.

WiFi only works close to router, DNS fail, Signal Bars present but Safari says no Internet, I've deleted and re-added through to reset and full reset, I had no problem with 4.3.2 only 4.3.3 both my iPhone4 and my iPad2. I am now beside router - no problem, but go 20 metres and WiFi becomes unstable. Only way to get either to work is disable WiFi either as a Hot Spot or turn it off and use the 3G connection. This worked with 4.3 & 4.3.2 what has gone wrong? I raised it at the Apple Store in Belfast as a problem but was told that there was no problem with Apple but I must have a faulty router - yeah - that's a lot of faulty routers, my home, my office, my holiday home, Starbucks, my friends house, my son's house. I've tried all the 'fixes'. I think it is a plan to force us to buy Apple RoutersTwo ways out, I added two more Belkin Access Points in my house in Spain so that I'm not more than 10Mtrs away, (Reinforced Concrete & solar glass 2010)
I bought 3 Apple Airports, 1 x Extreme and 2 x Express (1 as a hard wired AP, 1 as an extender) for my other house (Brick construction 1930's)
Everthing now works perfectly, as I said 'an apple plot', so either blast them with signal or visit your nearest apple store.
Early beta iOS5 (iPad) is also much inproved in Beta 3, I have not had any problem with 'Lion'

Yes, if you are asking about using Time Machine to backup the Mac.

You are not thinking of deleting the photos and files on your Mac, are you? If you do this, you will have no backups for those files.
Another concern is that Time Machine backs up the changes on your Mac. At some point, Time Machine will automatically delete the photos and files from the Time Capsule.....you just don't know when this might occur.
In other words, only delete files from your Mac that you can afford to lose. -
I have a 3rd generation iPod Touch and just did the update to IOS 5. Now I can't connect to my Netgear wifi router. My iPhone connects fine along with all of my other laptops etc. I have the router set with WPA-PSK [TKIP] security and an access list. I've confirmed the mac address is included on that list and that the password is correct. Under choses netwrok I select the network and it just goes into a spin. I have tried removing the password and the access list settings and it still will not complete the connection to the router thus no internet access. The routers firmware is also up to date. This thing worked fine before this update and I've already tried to restore from backup. Any ideas or is the wifi nic bad in this thing with the new apple firmware update? Any fix?

How to disable Wifi and Network access in low level setting for security ?

One of our final customer bought imac last months. OS 10.9, SN is c02*******J4i
Since they are security printing, all the necessary ports accessing to outisdes need to be disabled in low level setting(not the ons just like turn on and off ).
The ports including USB storage, Network and WIFI.
I googled and found the following
Open the /System/Library/Extensions folder.
To remove support for USB mass storage devices, drag the following file to the Trash: IOUSBMassStorageClass.kext
Open Terminal and enter the following command: $ sudo touch /System/Library/Extensions The touch command changes the modified date of the /System/Library/Extensions folder. When the folder has a new modified date, the Extension cache files (located in /System/Library/) are deleted and rebuilt by Mac OS X.
Choose Finder > Secure Empty Trash to delete the file.
Restart the system.
I want to confirm this before sending to final user. Since I didn't have mac on hand, just wonder whether there are similar kext files for network and wifi to remove.
Just like step 2 described.
I would like customer to backup these files before permanently removed.

You could delete WAP accesspoint. Not all providers (carriers) allow this.

I am deploying to Afghanistan and I will not have wifi access. I will have a hardline access to internet. How do I sync my apps, newsstand, etc without wifi connection?
About the only other way I can think of is to have a computer with you or use one there, if you can put iTunes on it and download all your new stuff to the computer, then sync your iPad to that computer.
In switching computers you will lose previous content, but, as I understand it anyway, downloaded content will be the same as long as the same apple ID is used. -

Just bridge the TC and plug it by ethernet into the main router.
Bridge in v5 airport utility.
In v6 it is under network.. change it from DHCP and NAT to Off bridge mode.
Turn off the wireless. -

The file is too large to download via 3G. There is a 20MB limit with 3G. The purpose of having 3G is that you have internet access everywhere and do not need to be near a WiFi hotspot or network.
Not every single thing that you do every single minute of the day on the iPad involves downloading files larger than 20MB. You can surf the internet all day long sitting out in a park somewhere with 3G - but not with a WiFi only iPad - unless you use a hotspot with it.
Try turning off your firewall and anti virus software while you try to download the iOS update. -

If you look at the top left of your screen you will either see a 3G (or 4G if you have AT&T) or you will see the wi-fi symbol. If you don't see the wi-fi symbol you are connecting to Gmail through your cellular data plan, not via wi-fi.
To answer your question, it doesn't happen often but when it does the steps I mentioned above will normally resolve it. Hopefully you won't have any further problem with this.
