IPhone4 battery draining when not in use

am just wondering if anyone experiencing battery draining when not in use? i charge my iphone4 before going to bed and woke up this morning to realise that my battery had drain 22% on stand by... is this normal? can anyone confirm it to me please, thank you

Just an update guys --after draining (on standby) over 20% of my battery charge last week, it has risen to or about 40+% in the last couple of days. I haven't changed any settings or whatsoever. I had to charged it twice during the day yesterday and it was bloody frustrating. anyway, i went to the apple shop today and told them the problem... they scanned my iphone4's battery and it was evident and showed when was the last time it was charged and how much battery life has it lost throughout the day. After scanning my iphone we did not even have to discuss repair or do any setting or software checks. I was gobsmacked --as i did not have to ask for a replacement, I was immediately offered a swap to a brand new iPhone4... lucky me? umm, i don't know...maybe? But the thing is, they seemed to be aware of the problem and they are keeping a low profile on tackling the problem. so my suggestion is if anyone has a battery problem with their unit, take it to apple and have the battery scan. As such, i have to wait and see if this new unit will present the same problem, although i must admit, for some reason, this new unit has a slight different behaviour than my previous iphone4.
Other issues on my previous iPhone4:
1. frequently dropping signal --not a problem with the new replacement unit
2. if i turn off my "phone" feature on the multitasking bar, red dot appears on the phone icon and i couldn't make a call as it seemed blocked and it kept asking me to set-up the voicemail feature every time --again, not a problem with the new unit.
3. even my tomtom app has changed its behaviour, i have discovered new features without updating the app --strange isn't it?
4. playing NOVA game was a pain with the previous unit as i kept getting network problem and interrupting the game.
5. it kept shuffling my music when i'm using ipod whilst walking. imagine, hearing about 8 different tunes in a span of 5 seconds...
anyway, time will tell with this new unit as i have kept the same settings from my previous unit and uploaded my previous back-up data and apps. so it would be like having my old iphone4 and we'll see in the morning if it will drain on stand by as well --i hope not 'cos am getting really frustrated with it. oh, by the way, blue tooth feature don't work with my new replacement unit --NICE!!!

  • Battery Drain when not in use--Gen 6 Nano

I have used Ipods for years now. Still have an Ipod Classic and a Shuffle that I use regularly. I have been pleased with the battery life, as a whole.
Recently I purchased a Nano Touch--Gen 6. I really like the Ipod + Nike features.
The issue I have is with the battery draining when the unit is not in use. If the unit has been fully charged, I will unplug from computer or wall charger and make sure that: 1)Music/radio is paused 2) Nike receiver is unplugged from Nano. 3) Screen is off.
If I do not use the nano for an extended period of time, say around 12-18 hours, I notice that the battery has drained between 50%-75% even if nothing is playing or "on". Nothing should be draining the battery this far, in my opinion.
I can't believe that this is typical. Do I have a bad battery?
    Your help would be appreciated.

You are not alone. I have had my Nano for several weeks now and have noticed the same thing. I would use it for short trips in the car while I ran errands and find that after only technically using it for maybe an hour or so (over the course of several days), I would already be low on battery. I read the manual and you can only put the ipod in sleep mode. It stays on for 36 hours and only then will it actually turn all the way off. So technically the battery last for several days but that doesn't do you any good unless you are using it for long periods of time all at once. I'm really frustrated because I really like it other than the fact that I'm always having to charge it.

  • Battery drain when not in use

Occasionally, the battery in my 3rd generation iPad rins down to near nothing in a very short time, even though I am not using it.  The Ipad has not been turned off, but there are no apps open.  The WiFi is on, but cell data turned off.  Sometimes, when I have set it down for a few hours, I'll pick it up and it is particularly warm and the battery is near dead.  Other times, it seems to hold a charge for several days. When I am using it, the battery drain seems to be normal. Is there something under the hood, as it were, that I am missing? Is there something I have left running that isn't apparent?
    Thanks,

Look in the notifications. there's a ton defaulted to on that you may not need.
Also look to background app update and background app refresh. those also run in the background and can effect your battery.
You may also want to shut down any programs/apps that are running that you may not need. Double tape the home button. You'll see the previews for all running apps on the screen. Flick the preview up and off the screen to close the app. Tap on the home screen preview or single tap the home button to exit the mode.

  • Battery draining when not in use.

The battery for my iPod touch keeps losing its charge even when it's not on. I've closed all the apps and it's still losing it's charge as if I am using it even though I'm not. Any help would be appreciated.

With some real comparison (without know what is usual I can judge what is faster), the hotness tend to indicae a hardware problem
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Iphone 5 battery suddening draining when not in use

Had my iphone 5 for about 3 months and was very pleased with the battery life. But literally out of no where the battery started draining super fast. Dropping 15% in 30 minutes when not in used. Here's the deal...nothing has changed ie locations, email, icloud etc. And quite honestly what is the freaking point of having those things if it drains the battery at unreasonable speeds. So I completely frustrated with Apple for at least not saying "we understand theres and issue and we are working on it." I will never switch cuz I'm an idiot Apple diehard but there have been so many bugs of late it's just frustrating. Also at the same time of the fast drain when I swipe to delete a text the delete button dissapears within one second. Both issues came on at the same time. I'm trying reseting the battery, restoring, unchecking notifications and a bunch of other features which is so stupid... whats the point of having a smart phone if you can't use the features? So I am going to demand a new phone and I know the Apple Genius guys who are so far from genius its pathetic are going to say nothing is wrong with the phone haha, just like the did with the super slow WiFi connections I get...they were completely unaware that there was a problem with iphones and Wifi cuz of course at the Apple Store the Wifi flies when they test it there but of course once you go back to your home or business the Wifi is back to super slow. Wow the things we put up with. Anyway, if anyone has any suggestions please reply.

  • Constant bettery drain when not in use. Help!

My iPod battery constantly drains even when not in use. I used to be able to listen to my iPod for an entire day without worrying about running out of battery. Now I can charge it fully and it'll be out of battery in 3-4 hours of use, and about 4 hours even when just turned off (in sleep, with hold switch on).
This happened shortly after hooking the iPod up to a new computer with a faulty USB port. I got a new battery for the iPod but it didnt change anything, so the battery wasn't the problem. Does anyone have any ideas of how this could possibly be fixed?

Well, my iPod goes into sleep mode fine, but the battery drains fast even while sleeping. Basically, it drains almost as much while in sleep mode as it does when in use.
I just got a brand new battery for it a couple weeks ago but it didn't fix anything, so I'm sure the problem isn't with the battery. Something is just causing the iPod to lose power constantly.
Also, I've charged it with the official AC adapter, with my computer USB cable, with a separate docking station, and with a car charger, and it happens no matter what I use to charge it

  • Battery Dying when not in use!!

    *hey there forum*
i have a summer '07 macbook, i have snow leopard installed on it and the battery tells me that i need to service it. recently i got a new mac so the macbook is off most of the time. when i use it i charge the battery and charge it to 100%. the next time i use it it is not fully charged (around 70%). *BTW i completely turn if off!!*
is this because the battery needs to be changed?
i still have the 3 yr warranty, does apple cover a new battery or do i have to buy it??
    thanks forum!!

    Hi AppleRocks101,
An important piece of information... how long between your "next time" usage? Are we talking a few hours, a few days, a few weeks? Over time your battery will lose charge, naturally. But to lose 30% capacity while being stored should usually occur over several weeks (even a few months). Unless of course there's already something wrong with the battery. Considering the battery is telling you that it requires service, then it's also fairly safe to say that there's potentially a problem with the battery and thus the reason for the 30% loss of charge during storage.
When was the last time you calibrated the battery? Did you try an SMC reset? What's the Full Charge Capacity on the battery? How many cycles on the battery? (all important bits of information)
AppleCare does not cover battery replacements unless the battery is determined to be defective by Apple, in order to reach that determination, Apple will need to diagnose the battery via an Authorized Service Provider, Apple Retail Store or you can call into AppleCare for more assistance.

  • Battery discharges when not in use

I can't figure this one out. New 30g, charged copletely a few times since xmas. Now, when I turn it off at night (holding the pause/play button I wake up the next morning and voila the battery is dead. I have tried turning on the hold button after turning off to no avail.
    Anyone have suggestions?

Take the iPod back to where you purchased it. It has a bad battery. You should be able to exchange it for another one.
    Good luck.

  • New battery still drains while not in use

A few months ago I noticed a battery performance issue on my 1 gen nano (quickly discharged, drained while not in use). I bought it the day they were available in stores (which was in 2005) so assumed I just needed to replace the battery. I installed a new battery and fully charged it with the ac adapter. However, I'm still having the same problem. After some troubleshooting, I found that it played for 5 hours on a continuous loop with no EQ and backscreen light off. The battery was fully drained. I again recharged in with the ac adapter to make sure the battery meter was recalibrated. After it was fully charged again I placed it on my desk and didn't use it. However after another 5 hours or so it was drained again. This is my second purchased battery so I doubt it's the battery. I have restored the nano numerous times. Any thoughts as why a new battery would drain while not in use? Could this be a hardware issue? Thanks in advance!!

You either have an alarm set in clock or calendar which is causing it to play while you think it is off or you have a logic board short. I'd bet on the latter. You can have it diagnosed at http://www.iresq.com for $9 or Google for other 3rd party repair sites.

  • Lenovo notebook E540 Battery drains when it is not powered on

Lenovo Notebook E540 battery drains when it is not powered on. My colleague said that there is a cloud connection being connected during power off and it consumes power. Is that possible? Any resolution?

    Hi Kingchechan,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community!
As far as I know only the Windows update will be accessing to the server, or might be any other 3rd party cloud related application, which might be accessing to the cloud server.
Did you check disabling USB always on in BIOS & Wake On Lan from Windows AND BIOS
Check running command powercfg /devicequery wake_armed to see if any device is programmed to power on the laptop might be this is consuming battery power.
    Best regards,
    Hemanth Kumar

  • Battery discharges very quickly when not in use

After fully charging my Nano and leaving it for a day I find that it discharges leaving 2-3 hours of playing time.
In fact, even when fully charged I would be lucky to get 8 hours playing time.
I appreciate that the battery slowly discharges when not in use but my Mini certainly retains its charge far longer than my Nano.
I have tried "conditioning" the battery occassionally but no use.
Anyone else have this problem or is my batter faulty?

nevermind - just read an article on the apple site saying the battery is in use even when it's turned off, i suppose to save the date and time.
Wish there were an option to completely turn it off - i dont really care about the date and time.

  • IPad 3 very hot w battery drain when streaming AirPlay!

Why does my iPad 3 get very hot and battery drains very quickly only when streaming with AirPlay?

Just in case anyone else is experiencing the same or similar scenario that I was (see first post), turns out that the Apple Care Geniuses determined that the PMU (Power Management Unit - I think the "U" is for "unit" anyway), was corrupted or not working properly, so too much power was being used for tasks that shouldn't have used up so much power.
They replaced my unit, it may or or may not be a refurbished unit, although it looks new and was manufactured on a later date than the one I brought in.
The Geniuses were very helpful and didn't just turn me away saying to "turn down the brightness or turn off WiFi when not in use" which I do anyway.

  • ThinkPad E455 Excessive Battery Drains When Power Off

I bought a new ThinkPad E455 two months ago with AMD processor and I use Windows 7 (64-bit) as my operating system. The problem is, since a week ago, when I turn off my laptop (completely shut-down, not hibernating nor sleeping), the battery looses 14% in less than 24 hours. This problem has never happened before. When I search for solution, apparently my problem is similar to https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/11e-Windows-E-and-Edge-series/E535-High-battery-drain-when-laptop-is-powered-off/ta-p/1249897 and https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/11e-Windows-E-and-Edge-series/E530-Battery-drains-and-power-manager-issue/ta-p/1249887 and https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/11e-Windows-E-and-Edge-series/E440-battery-drains-when-powered-off/m-p/1527086/highlight/true#M18743. It appears that the power drains happened in other type of ThinkPad as well. Moreover, it seems that this problem is not limited to ThinkPad series (e.g: http://www.tomsguide.com/answers/id-2324931/laptop-battery-drains-powered-shutdown.html), and more surprisingly, some of other brands experience this condition as well. My question is, what causes the power drain? I mean, the laptop just worked fine for a period of time (in my case it is two months), if it was trigerred by something, what is it? I looked for the technical updating BIOS solution in http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht077068, but unfortunately the series E455 is not in the list. Of course, updating the BIOS using incompatible version is not recommended by the technical support. Please help me.

See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_Configuration_and_Power_Interface When you think the laptop is powered off it's actually in ACPI Power State S5 with power being supplied to the power button and some of the USB sockets. So, when you shut down the laptop and then removed the power cord, if the BIOS version was lower than 1.13, the laptop was still draining the battery.I followed your suggestion, and it seems solving the problem, thank you. However, another problem arises just recently. When I was playing a game on my laptop, the battery capacity is decreasing when the AC power connected (as described by both lenovo and Windows battery gauge). I post this problem in https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/11e-Windows-E-and-Edge-series/ThinkPad-E455-Battery-Capacity-Reduced-When-Connected-to-AC/td-p/2106218. Oddly, the problem (seems) does not occur when I quit the game to windows. Why was this happen?

  • Should I turn off my Mac Pro when not in use or leave it running?

I have been told I should never turn off my computer by some people, and others say that I should always turn it off when not in use!  I use my Mac Pro primarily for music recording/editing in my home studio or word processing.  Now that I have an iPad I use that for web browsing, email, FBing, etc. and I find myself on my Mac Pro a lot less.  I get the basis behind both trains of thought; those who leave it on feel always stopping and starting up puts unnecessary wear on the moving disks, and those who shut down think if the parts are always moving they are bound to wear out faster.  I am not as concerned with conserving power as I am with keeping my machine safe!  If you have any information on this topic I would love to hear it. Thanks!

Providing you have a robust firewal and are not worried as a result about being hacked then leave it turned on and allow it to sleep. Make sure you allow the screen to sleep as well a that is the item that is more prone to damage by being left on all the time.
I never turn my machine off, never have with any of my Macs ever since my first one back in 1979-ish and have never suffered any adverse affects. Today, the power drain is so small when allowed to sleep that I doubt they would offend even the ardent 'turn off everything and pull out the plug to save the planet' person.
If you have an iPad or iPod synced with the Mac for email and iCal and address Book etc. then if you leave it on it should be up to date as soon as you return home, mine is anyway. With iCloud coming out very soon that may come into play even more so with all its advance pushing etc. Just a thought.
One advantage in leaving the machine on (sleep) is that you can access it from anywhere in the world should the need arise with the appropriate settings, which you can't if you turn it off.
    Leave it on.
