Iphone4 does not send texts/imessage properly.

I've had this iphone for 18 months and it does not send texts/imessages properly. The iphone will be sending texts completely fine and it will have good 3G connection but then out of nowhere the phone will take over 20 minutes to send texts/imessages. Phone connection is out of the question. it does this on and off very frequently. It started doing it very rarely but its been doing it more and more often.

Check settings for iMessage on your device and have the receiver check as well. You may need to turn iMessage off and back on again, but read the support document.

The iPhone 5s is about 140 days old, I called apple yesterday before I knew about this problem and send a diagnostic test to which they said was all good, they said the phone ismy blocked in anyway and that I got a great buy And it's second hand but in Christine condition with around 200 days left of warrenty.

Make sure you are connected to internet on wifi. Sometimes there are iMessage issues with apple server, and at that time iMessage doesn't work for some people. You can check the system status at http://www.apple.com/support/systemstatus/

MMS is a carrier issue... contact Verizon and ensure your account is provisioned correctly. I would think that someone would be intelligent enough to do that before buying a new device, but......
iMessage could be an activation issue or a network issue.
Have you tried Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings?

I had problems the first few days with text messaging on my new cell. I checked my new contract service thru AT&T online, and it turned out the guy who set up my phone didn't sign me up for the unlimited texting I told him I HAD to have! I just had to add texting back into my contract.....problem solved. I hope your problem is solved this easily.

Yes I have turned imessage off a number of times and that does not seem to he doing the trick, and it is not delivering them then I have to press on the photo and either chose try again or send as text message, I have had the setting on to not allow sending pictures as texts (so they can only send as imessage) since I got my phone in January and it has always worked until now, I have turned that off to allow me to send them as picture messages now but it's still not working over iMessage, I have also tried it using 3G and not wifi

Mail does not send email

My problem is simply that Mail does not send email.
I have just migrated from iMac G5 to iMac Intel by using Migration Assistant. Everything else works just fine and I can receive email. However, if I try to reply, forward or send a new email message, Mail just does not do anything - no error message, nothing.
The fixes I have tried so far are removing the Mail plist file, repairing disk permissions and mailboxes. Of course, I have checked the account settings, especially outgoing server settings. I also reinstalled Mail application with Pacifist. None of this has solved the problem. I have tried sending email with Thunderbird and it works with no problems.
Does anybody have any suggestions how to fix this issue?
The OS is 10.4.8, Mail Version 2.0.6 (749.2/752.3), all the suggested software updates done.

Reinstalling Mail is rarely necessary or appropriate to solve a problem. It certainly cannot fix anything that could be wrong within your home folder or at the server or with the network, and may even introduce new issues if not done properly. Moreover, in Mac OS X 10.4 you don’t need Pacifist to reinstall Mail, you could also do it as described in the following article:

After having fixed all filesystem issues, if any, if the version of the system software on your install disks is earlier than what you’re using now (and only in that case), then you must also reinstall the Combo Update for the type of computer and the version of Mac OS X you’re using, to bring Mail back in sync with the rest of the system:

The above won’t solve the problem. It’s just to ensure that you’ve properly reinstalled Mail, which you shouldn’t have done, and which apparently you didn’t do properly -- the version of Mail on your system should be 2.1.1, not 2.0.6.

I had the same problem. I went in and added my email address to iMessage and deleted the text to my friends that have iPhones and sent another to test it and it worked. Only thing is now my non iPhone friends don't receive my pic text. I had to turn off iMessage for it to work. Apple needs to fix this ASAP!

After trying lots I found now in 'Airport Utility is 'unable to detect any airport wireless devises.....'
There is no provider to be seen in airport utility and only 'rescan' is an option with no results...
even so I am connected and can browse the net receive mail etc. and the outgoing 'mail server' is set to the internet provider I am connected to.
Can you enlighten me what can I do I need to use my e-mail program urgently !!!

I'm not sure what "IPS wireless" is, but unless you have an Apple Wi-Fi base station (such as a Time Capsule, AirPort Extreme, or AirPort Express), AirPort Utility won't see anything.
You might try defining a new SMTP server to see if that will work any better.
By the way, the subject field for these messages isn't intended to hold a lot of text. Put a short description of your problem in the subject field and save the rest of your message for the body field.

This is happening only when CAPABILITY command is sent follwed by LOGIN command. Please check this issue.

If you want your mail delivered properly the Official Host Name of the sending server should match the PTR (reverse DNS) of the sending IP Address, and there should be an "A" record that matches the OHN as well.
Example:
mail.yourdomain.com (Official Host Name) on 123.123.123.123
PTR for 123.123.123.123 should match mail.yourdomain.com
There should be an A record in yourdomain.com pointing to 123.123.123.123

One contact who has an iPhone but messaging will not send as iMessage

I have one contact, who has an iPhone, but messaging will not send as iMessage, only text. All my other contacts with iPhones, the messages go as iMessages - even messages going to people who are not in my contacts. What is the fix?

But if that person did not set up an iMessage account on their iPhone, then they cannot receive any iMessages at all, only SMS text messages.
Both the sender and the recipient must have an iOS device with an active iMessage account.
There is nothing you can do about it, other than ask them to set up iMessage on their device (which if they don't want to, is their choice).

Verizon iPhone4 does NOT work in Hongkong Airport

Asian travelers be aware.... the Verizon iPhone4 does NOT work at Hongkong International Airport.... I couldn't make any phone call out and can't receive any incoming calls either.... although the phone has the WEAK signal of roaming (1 to 2 lines)...but any phone calls I tried to make or text messaging all did NOT go through.... it was such a huge disappointment. I just don't know why my old verizon blackberry phone worked great in Hongkong/China/Taiwan and the iPhone just did not work....
Also be aware, even if you have the WiFi connection, the Verizon iPhone will NOT allow you to browse the internet using Safari, becuase it will ask you to turn on the data-roaming service.... what kind of plan is this ???? I waited for the iPhone to be available for so long but it turned out to be useless when I needed it the most... thinking about returnnig it due to the service failure

The blackberry was most likely a dual mode (CDMA EVDO Rev-A and Quad Band GSM) with a sim card for global roaming such as the storms, tour and bold as mentioned above. Data on the iPhone should've worked on wifi unless Verizon and Apple crippled the phone. The map for hong kong lists cdma roaming but says Advanced EVDO device required so not sure if the iphone 4 falls under that or not. http://b2b.vzw.com/international/Roaming/Asia-Pacific/Hong%20Kong.html

Welcome to the Verizon family, ivpacks! I regret to learn that your alarms didn't work. I also regret that there is a problem with the messages. Have you tried the alarm again? Does it still not work? For instance, just set the alarm for a couple of minutes away to ensure that the alarm goes off.
When you send a text, do you get an error? If you power the phone off/on, do the messages send? This particular issue is expecting a software update to resolve the issue with texts and picture messages.
I believe that you have chosen a great device, but keep in mind that there is a 14 day exchange period. If you exchange for the same make/model, you will not pay the restocking fee.
