IPHONE4 STUCK IN RESTORE MODE

My iphone was working fine and out of the blue it shut off competely and would not turn on. I tried to restore it and it said i had an unknown error 21. If someone could help me fix this issue i would greatly appreciate it.

This is an Error that I have rarely seen discussed.
Here is Apple Explanation: Error 20, 21, 34, 37: These errors typically occur when security software interferes with the restore and update process. If you are using a PC, follow this article to resolve this issue.
I have heard of a person replacing battery of iPhone 4 resolving this error, but also several other users have done the same without resolution by battery replacement.
Turn OFF your Antivirus and FireWall and follow Apple advice.

  • Ipod touch (2G) stuck in "restore" mode.  Need HELP please

I have contacted Apple support several times since Friday and was just hung up on by an extremely rude lady in customer support. I am really frustrated and just trying to get my 5 yr old little boys ipod touch working again.
The situation is that our son's old computer crashed. So we have a newer computer set up for him. Reinstalled itunes on it. Called Apple on Friday, really nice rep gave me several instructions for transfering purchases, making sure everything was up to date and turning home sharing on. Did all that, got off the phone with him and then the computer tells me that the ipod needs and update.
Clicked ok, and update starts going for a few minutes.....then get an error message that says that the ipod is basically stuck in "restore" mode and needs to be reset to factory settings. It won't let me do anything to the ipod. It won't restore, reset, anything. Just shows a picture of usb cable and says to connect to itunes.
Connect to itunes and it keeps giving me say error message.
Will someone please help me? Apple support sure won't.

Did you try to connect in recovery mode, to start the restore process again? Connecting in Recovery mode is explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
Also delete the ipod ipsw firmware file on your computer, to make iTunes download a new copy to restore from. Depending on your OS, this file can be found here:
    XP: C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates
    Vista and 7: C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates
If you're getting error numbers, take a look at this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1275

I have tried to hold the "home" and "power" button to reboot

I have tried, to unplug the cable, hold the "home" button and then plug it in.
Can't check the SN or warranty, cause it is stuck in restore mode.
Is the hard drive gone? Should there be something replaced.

    Error 1 or -1
This may indicate a hardware issue with your device. Follow Troubleshooting security software issues, and restore your device on a different known-good computer. If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service.
Usually this is caused by your antivirus or firewall blocking iTunes access to the Internet. It can also occur if the phone is jailbroken or if the computer you are using was ever used to jailbreak an iDevice.

  • My iphone is stuck in restore mode.  I plugged into macbook and ran a restore and it is still stuck

iphone is stuck in restore mode when i did a rebook.  I hooked up to my macbook and ran a restore.   Itunes ran through the restore and now it is still stuck in restore mode.

If it won't restore in the regular restore mode, you may want to try putting it in DFU mode if you haven't already. Instructions for this are linked below.
    http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=1034
Put it in this mode, then do a restore again through your computer.
    Hope this helps you out!

  • HT201210 I tried to update my iPad 2 with the iOS 6.0.  Now I am stuck in restore mode and keep getting an unkown error 3014 and sometimes -1.  What in the world can I do?

I tried to update my iPad 2 with the iOS 6.0.  Now I am stuck in restore mode.  I get "unknown" errors 3014 and sometimes -1.  Any ideas?

Try a hard reset: hold the power and home buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears.

  • Error 6 when trying to restore.  Phone is stuck in restore mode

I have an iphone in front of me which is stuck in restore mode. I plug it into iTunes, choose restore, choose a firmware (3.1.2) and begin the restore process. I get the following message:
The iPhone 'iPhone' could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (6).
If I press more info, the console appears, and the last 2 lines show the following:
    Restore failed (result = 6)
    iTunes[24792:207]: iTunes: Restore error 6
I'm using Mac OS X 10.6.2, iTunes 9.0.3. I've tried using a different user account - no luck. I also tried pointing gs.apple.com to 74.208.10.249 in /etc/hosts thinking maybe it was an activation problem - no luck.
Hoping someone can help - otherwise I've got a very expensive paperweight!
    Matt

First delete all .ipsw files on your computer. In OSX they are located here:
    ~/Library/Application Support/iTunes/iPod/iphone Firmware
If you have your firewall turned on, disable it. Then see if you can force the phone into recovery mode:
Leave the USB cable connected to your computer, but NOT your phone, itunes running, press & hold the home button while connecting the USB cable to your dock connector, continue holding the home button until you see “Connect to iTunes” on the screen. You may now release the home button. iTunes should now display that it has detected your phone in recovery mode, if not quit and reopen iTunes. If you still don’t see the recovery message repeat these steps again. iTunes will give you the option to restore from a backup or set up as new.
Also, any reason why you have not updated to 10.6.2? You might try updating to 10.6.2 FIRST & also make sure itunes is up to date, version 9.0.3.

i have a classic that seems to be stuck in restore mode, the screen says "do not disconnect'' and i can't restore using itunes. i have tried resetting it and still no good, what can i do to fix this problem ?

Be good to know what the diagnostic results are.
I've also just run into an issue where I couldn't restore an iPod with a corrupt file system, and the "super fix" in that linked article wasn't working for me. I've run across a potentially useful workaround.
iPod Classic went on the fritz today just after syncing. Couldn't restore via iTunes, kept getting 1439 errors, Windows wouldn't format as FAT32, claimed the "Volume is too big for FAT32". Finally tracked down EaseUS Partition Master Home Edition (Free) and formatted as FAT32 with 128k clusters. The iPod is filling back up again. Might be worth a shot here...

  • My updated iPhone 3GS from 4.2.1 to 6.0.1 is stuck in restore mode

    Hi,
I've got a problem with my iPhone 3GS, which is stuck in restore mode.
    I've done theses steps :
Update iTunes to the last version on my Windows7
Connect my iphone and synchronize for the first time
Manually backup my data with iTunes (more than 4000 pictures, messages, ...)
Accept to download and update to iOS 6.0.2 from iTunes
iTunes backup my data once again and starts the iOS update
When my iPhone is updated, restore process starts and craches with an "Error -10" message.
The iPhone is fully functional but completely empty. I check this page - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4946 but can't find my backup.
If I check this path \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\ or use iTunes to find backups, the only are made by itunes with iOS 6. Old backupswith iOS 4.2.1 have disappeared.
How can I retsore my iphone ?
    Regards
    gr

  • Delete database that's stuck in restoring mode

    Hi,
one of the databases got stuck in restoring mode. I want to delete that without stopping sql service. I tried detaching and then deleting the physical files but didn't work. It just came back. I also tried deleting the database and then deleting files, but
    no luck.
I tried Restore database with recovery but it failed saying cannot run as the db is in recovery mode. I cannot find SPID to kill either.
Is there any other way to delete this stuck database without restarting the server??

Are you sure that backup is corrupted? What does
    RESTORE VERIFYONLY
    return?

  • IPad 1 stuck in restore mode

    Hi,
After numerous attempts and remedies across the net my ipad is still stuck in restore mode, each time returning the follwing error code: The iPad 'iPad' could not be restored. An unknown error occured (1). This is not the usual timing out error, or so I think, and must be something else. Is anyone able to help. Putting in DFU mode, trying to re-set just isn't working sop at the moment it's stuck not doing anything and all data has been lost on the face of it if I can't get to a backup. I've tried downloading the update and manually retoring but still nothing.
I've tried 3 different PC's, removing anit-virus, spyware and firewalls etc to no avail, so any other support welcome or it's out of the window!!!

My wife had a problem that sounds exactly like what you're describing.  She has OS 10.6.8 and iTunes 10.5 and tried to put the new system on her 3G iPad 1.  The backup went fine, but she got an unknown error 1 during the install of the new system.  We weren't using this iPad for development and it was never jailbroken.
We tried putting the iPad into recovery mode, switching cables, restarting the computer, salt over the left shoulder and everything else we could think of and discover via google.  My wife finally took the iPad to the "genius" at the Corte Madera Apple Store and he claimed it was a hardware failure and offered to sell her a refurbished iPad for $499. He wouldn't admit that there was any chance the problem was a result of the upgrade process.
Since we didn't believe that this "hardware failure" was a coincidence that just happened to occur during the system update, we persisted with our own attempts to solve the problem and ended up with a solution.
With the iPad in recovery mode, we turned AirPort off (and disconnected ethernet) on the Mac and restarted the update process in iTunes.  When iTunes said it couldn't connect to the Apple server, we turned AirPort back on for just long enough to get the update process to resume, then we turned AirPort off again.  After a while, iTunes tried to reach the server again and failed, so we turned AirPort back on for just a few seconds and then turned it off again.  After that, the update continued just fine and the iPad is no longer a brick.  We're pretty sure this wasn't just because the Apple servers were less busy.  We had the same error moments before doing the no-WiFi trick.
