Iphone4 wifi shows, refuses to connect?

Just got my phone and just got it activated- connected to my work wifi, and the phone shows the signal as full tilt, but- when I open safari it switches to 3g.
Turning off 3g forces it to edge, turning off edge/cellular data (with wifi shown full strength) gives the "not connected" error.
Have reset/rebooted/etc phone- cannot do so to internet, but have confirmed it working fine.
Thoughts?
Summary: Wifi icon signal shown, unable to use.

I've pressed every reset option available and tried all the usual things I can think of (Restarting iPhone, Restarting router etc etc)
My 3G works fine on the network, I've never had issues with that.
Only the iPhone 4 is having issues.
EDIT:
iPhone shows that its connected to the WiFi in the WiFi Networks screen, however it shows its connected to 3G on the top bar.
EDIT 2:
Attempting to connect to the web after turning off 3G and Cellular Data forces it to show a WiFi icon on the top bar, however, connections do not work.

  • HT5569 Yesterday, my ability to receive gmail, facebook, safari, etc.ceased on my ipad2. The wifi shows it is connected and the cisco router works ok with another computer connection.  Can anyone tell me what I need to do with ipad in order to get it worki

Yesterday, my ability to receive gmail, facebook, safari, etc. ceased to perform  The wifi connections shows that  it is connected but I cannot get through the internet .  I use a Cisco router and it is working fine with another computer and also a printer. I contacted the internet provider and they show the ipad at the router but not out through the internet. Also, yesterday my wife eliminated some programs(games, etc) from the ipad.  Anway, I am thinking I am missing some setting that is not turned on as everything seems to be working fine.
    Any suggestions?

  • Why does the itunes wifi show it is connected to my PC for all the devices we have when my husband has his own Apple ID, since we updated to Icloud with our own ID's

since upgrading to Icloud, all the devices in our house show in Itunes Wifi they are all linked to my PC, although we have set them up with our own individual accounts, my husband is unable to sync his Iphone, Ipod & ipad to the music in his itunes, as it wants to connect to mine any one any ideas

You can continue to use the current AppleID for iTunes, but your husband can create a new AppleID to use to create a new iCloud account that will be his own and not overlap with yours.  If you do not have another email address to use for an AppleID, just get a free Gmail account and use that.
You can have as many AppleIDs as you want (or at least, as many as you have email addresses for).  You can use a separate AppleID for the store, another for iCloud, and even another for iMessage if you wish.
You will want to keep the current one as the shared one for the store as all your previous purchases are permanently tied to it, and thus you need that AppleID to update or redownload your current purchased content.

  • IPhone 3G - iOS 4.2.1 - WiFi Refuses to Connect.

As it says... my iPhone 3G has refused to connect to the internet using Wifi.
Bit of history on it... It was a Telstra phone, and worked perfectly with WiFi, but since it was racking up unknown $3000 bills per month we decided to switch it to Optus, and it still worked fine.
Ever since we have swapped SIM Cards, or upgraded to iOS 4+ the WiFi just refuses to connect. It will pickup the router fine, and will say its connecting but then say it cannot and I have to dismiss the notification.
    Any ideas? Solutions? Workarounds?
    Thank you in advance.

There is no solution available other than selling it and putting the money towards a new iPhone.

  • My iPad 4th generation refuses to connect to any wifi network

My iPad 4th gen refuses to connect to any wifi giving a 'unable to join network' message and when on the rare occasion does is extremely slow, is this a hardware problem?
This problem came on suddenly after I couldn't connect to a hotel wifi whilst on holiday. I reset my settings completely to try and fix the problem but now I cannot set up my iPad because It won't let me connect to the wifi.
    Please help!

Some things to try first: (some of these you have already tried)
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

  • Installed 10.8.4 and now my wifi refuses to connect to any WPA2 network!

Installed 10.8.4 update yesterday in the office. After restart my wifi refused to connect to the network although it was connecting to it fine before the update. Used ethernet and downloaded the Combo update. No improvement. It connects to the public wifi but not to the WPA2. Went home and opened my MBA and found that it does not connect to my peronal WPA2! Removed security from my Guest network and it connects fine. Put the WPA2 back, and it refuses to connect. Any ideas?

seems the problem is that the 10.8.4 didn't install properly. here is the install log:

  • I have a 2nd generation iPod touch and it shows to be connected to WiFi but will not access the internet, please tell me what i can do, because i use this device for work and it make things difficult that it will not work now. Please help, thank you!

I really need help, my ipod shows to connect to the WiFi but then it will not let me use the interent it says no connection but according to my screen i have WiFi connection, i am very confused an i would really appriciate it if someone could help me sort out this problem so i can start using my iPod for work again.

Even though the iPod shows as been connected, it might not have actually received a valid IP address via DHCP from your Wi-Fi access point or router.  Head to Settings -> Wi-Fi and tap the > next to the network you are connected. If 169.xxx.xxx.xxx is listed for an IP Address, then your iPod did not receive a valid IP address.  To correct this you can reboot your router by unplugging it from power for about 30 seconds.
It wouldn't hurt to also reset your iPod.  To do this, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

  • My iphone4s does not turn on,when I connect to power ,it shows the message "connect to itunes" but when I connect to iTunes,my pc does not detect my phone,so iTunes does not detect my iPhone.

My iphone4s does not turn on,when I connect to power ,it shows the message "connect to itunes" but when I connect to iTunes,my pc does not detect my phone,so iTunes does not detect my iPhone.

Are you running the most recent version of iTunes for Windows on your PC?  You may be running an older version that is incompatible with the 4s.
    Hope this helps

  • Can my iPhone4 use be connected to WiFi and still be connected to the 3G network at the same time?

My iPhone is on the Bell network, along with 3 other iPhones in my household. We have WiFi and the phone indicate that they are connected to the WiFi when we are in the house. However, my bill from Bell indicates several instances where the phones (all 4 at different times) are connected to the 3G network for 24+ hours at a time. Additionally, it shows the phone connected twice during that time period (as though there were 2 different sessions at exactly the same time, but with differing amount of data connected)
The explaination that Bell gives me is that there are 'minimized' applications still working on 3G even though the phone says it is on WiFi, and that each of these opens its own 'connection'.
My understanding of cell technology is that the phone can only access one method of Internet connectivity at a time, and that it can be explained as a 'pipe' or 'straw' carrying connectivity and all of the data. I have never heard of a phone that can access two different types at the same time, nor one that uses separate 'sessions' at the same time of either type of connectivity.
I would assume that I turn on my phone in the morning and I am in my house, it indicates WiFi, so I can browse the web, collect my email and update my Facebook on that 'session' that lasts 4 hours until I leave the house. Now my 3G kicks in and the email that I still have open now collects through the opened 3G session, as well as the page I left open downloading something. When I get to work and enter my WiFi area there, the session would then collect my email through WiFi again, and my download as well.
If this is incorrect I need to know.
    Can someone help?

Keep in mind that the reporting of data usage is not real time for any carrier.  The time stamps of when data is used are essentially meaningless.
That being said, the device is always connected to the cellular data network unless the user actually turns off cell data.  It is designed to use Wi-Fi when available as that is typically the faster network.
When the device is in sleep mode, it will use cellular data as the Wi-Fi antenna is turned off to save battery life.  The only way the Wi-Fi stays on in sleep mode is if an app is actively using data over that connection, like Pandora or similar apps streaming audio.

Hi.. My internet and wifi are working on samsung phone and hp laptop but its not getting connected to iphone ipad, only skype is coming online rest all apps and safari show no internet connection. Got new linksys router WRT160NL , but situation same. Tried reboot, renew lease, forget network, reset network setting. Pls advice

Have you tried a simple reset of your iPod to see if that helps?  To do this, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.
Otherwise, have you tried any of the troubleshooting mentioned in this Apple support document?

  • 1st Gen iPad won't connect to my home router. EVER. Refuses to connect to my wifi.

HELP ME PLEASE WITH THIS 1st GEN IPAD refusing to connect to Wi-Fi ISSUE
It shows up as having full signal, and shows the name of our network. But go to Safari and try to go do anything and it spins and spins then tells me "Cannot Open Page...Safari could not open the page because the server stopped responding."  Well...it never responded in the first place, so....
Apple says it works fine on their in-house system when we took it in. Told us to call Comcast. More than once, Comcast walked me through 20 mins of reconfiguring the router and the iPad and multiple phone calls and a trip to Comcast later...no go.They say it's Apple's problem now or that I have to buy a special Comcast technical support account for further help --- which doesn't guarantee anything....
This is rather BS to have this unusable thing for so long and now be expected to pay MORE money to get something like this working....and why won't anyone take responsibility? It cannot be that big a deal.
We now have been unable to use our expensive iPad for about 4 months or more. What the heck am I supposed to do? Throw it in the trash take the huge loss as a life lesson to not bother paying Apple prices for stuff that only works for a few months before some glitch or software issue makes it unusable without having to buy a new unit or pay someone to keep trying only to hear '...sorry, call someone else...'*
*Same thing happened with my perfecctly perfect dual G5 tower...motherboard burned out for no reason. Paid 1200 to replace that...then a year later the other main board fries...on a computer that barely ever got used...ended up having to literally give it away on Craigslist and buy a new iMac...which then made all my expensive music software and projects unusable. So I have about three years of special music project files sitting on a harddrive that will never be able to be used.
...I'm beyond frustrated since all we wanted the iPad for in the first place was to be able to check some websites and emails...help me help me.

If the iPad works on other Wi-Fi systems then I'd have to agree that it is your own router causing the problem. To be sure take your iPad to a Starbucks or your library and a few other places than have Wi-Fi and test it out. If it works in those locations you'll need to talk to Comcast some more and be assertive. Something could have failed in your router.
Regarding your hard disk full of music. Put it in an enclosure and connect it to your Mac. Other World Computing sells all sorts of hard drive enclosures that you can install your drive in.
Computers can be frustrating but solutions are sometimes just around the corner.

  • I have an ipad and it's been refusing to connect to the wifi lately no matter where I go, anyone know how I can fix it?

I have an ipad and it's been refusing to connect to the wifi lately no matter where I go,
it used to work and then all of a sudden it wont.
i type in the password and it comes up with 'unable to connect to wifi'
anyone know how I can fix it?

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.

I have an iPad 2 that is updated and using 6.0.1. It is connecting to my wifi just fine. I just purchased a 4th generation iPad. It shows it is connected to the same wifi, same strong signal, but it will not work. HELP!!!

    Some things to try first:

Have you tried clearing Safari? Clear Safari, close Safari completely and reboot your iPad. Try again.
    Go to Settings>Safari>Cookies and Data.
If you are running iOS 5 or iOS 6 you close apps like this. Tap the home button once. Then tap the home button twice and the recents tray will appear at the bottom of the screen. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button twice.
If you are running iOS 7, you close apps this way. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
